Have emailed 'Still missing' posters to quite a few new contacts in various parts of the country. Can't believe it is nearly a year and still no news but won't give up as little Buster was my first Dog Lost baby. I know handsome Buster's face and markings as well as my own dogs! Hi Sue, Re the cctv - still don't think most police would do anything even if we had evidence like this. Don't know if you ever saw Bentley's story on here. A little boxer puppy who was beaten and then stolen - all on cctv for the poor owners to see and still he hasn't been found. Absolutely heartbreaking - poor little mite. Wish you all the luck with the ebid venture. Take care and hopefully be in touch soon - Katie xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Many thanks Katie, you are a gem! Ive not been on the site for about a fortnight, just came by today and am horrified about the website problems, and I didnt even know :O(.......I have got a permemenant shop on Ebid that I use for raising funds, all of which will now be donated to doglost. I'll send a link to the doglost ladies when Ive updated the pages, which Im doing now. Also if anyone is reading this, theres a link on msn to a cctv camera catching some gunweilding dog thieves in the act in america. Lucky for that lady she got all her little ones back. Maybe we should all think about getting cctv cameras?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi jonachris many thanks for the info. Mum has now spoken with the kennels that currently have this little chap and they said their vet reckoned he was only about a year old so probably not buster but Im going to find out if mum asked them about the dogs tail, as buster has a distinctive tail but she may have not mentioned it to them after they said this one was so young, but I think she ought to ask anyway just in case. ~ sooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

JONACHRIS thanks for the info, we have passed the details of the rescue to the owners of Buster who are going to contact them and get some more info, ie if the dog they have is male/female entire/neutered etc. A long shot I know but worth a look as you say looks similar. Another update. Dog found today about 50 miles away. We have seen a picture of this dog and are almost totally convinced it is our little Buster pending more pics of him tomorrow. If hes got all his boys bits then unfortunately its just Busters double, but if he hasnt got any bits then its quite probably him. Keep your fingers crossed everyone, what a fab present it would be for mum & Frank if this really is him! I doubt I will sleep tonight as I am so desperate to phone the people who have him (kennels)! ~ SooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Quick update everybody. There are 3 jrts males in the found section today which I am phoning up about tomorrow, we also have a possible other which is being checked out right this minute! I will be doing mail shots and posters (updated ones) to send out again around the country over the holiday period. If by some miracle one of these found dogs is Buster then I will instead, be doing posters and mail shots to campaign for better public awareness in our area of the problems of dog theft & to promote Doglost at the same time! ~ sooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

All has gone very quiet & Ive been a bit poorly and let the auctions go for a couple of weeks. Ive now restarted them & the proceeds will be donated to doglost, but the main reason for the auctions is to raise awareness of Buster & of Doglost & of the growing problem of dog theft. I will try to keep a few auctions going continuously so that people dont forget us! If you want to look at the auctions you can either find my ebay ID which is lemon*pebbles or look in the pets section and just type in Buster on the search, that should find them ok! ~ sooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ive seen the dog that mum saw last night and even I could see it was not buster. ~ Why wont anyone in the police follow up the two leads we gave them ages ago, the number plate and the phone number? All trails completely cold now. It is just not fair that we cannot get these two leads traced, even though they are on busters file. ~ What are the police really for, apart from extracting money from motorists? ~ I think its high time we had some sort of specialist agency set up to train bounty hunters to do the work that the police dont want to do....ie. track down real criminals. And I do mean this seriously. They could be trained by the law & have access to priviledged info like the law, & work within the law obviously, but would be bounty hunters, ie they would not be tied by police funding as they would be privately funded by citizens who are prepared to put up a reward or bounty or fee or whatever you want to call it, for their services. Just a thought, but you know its a great idea. Now where do we start?!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

UPdate. Mum has delivered leaflets to the streets on my side of the estate. The lady who contacted us last week about a possible sighting phoned mum straight away, she had lost mums phone number so couldnt ring her back before! She has seen the dog again when the man left him in the van..she called his name and he acknowledged it, but the other little one was making a lot of noise and she didnt want to attract attention so she left it. She is convinced its him. She has told us where the man works, and what time he gets in from work. We are going to watch tomorrow to see the dogs when he opens the gate. But of course by now he will have one of the leaflets aswell, and the photos on them are very clear. Also all his neighbours will have leaflets too, including (i hope) the next door neighbour who can see into his garden from upstairs! Just hope if he does have buster that he doesnt panic and do something horrible to him. Or dump him somewhere, I gather he gets around a lot in his job. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wow Katie thanks, that is fantastic of you to do all of those! We are going to do a leaflet all around calmore estate this week. Im busy printing them all up until we have enough to do my side of the estate, then I'll do some more for the other side. We thought that might be a good way of nudging someones concience. We still havent seen the local one that was tipped to us, but even if they have got him, they may not have seen the posters at all. Not everyone takes notice of posters in shops, especially if they are in a hurry, & also they may not walk around the estate so havent seen those posters either. I think they must take their dogs out to the forest to walk them, so could genuinely have no idea that buster is missing. (thats if it is him they've got, of course it may not be.) We should get these ped this week, in the next couple of days I hope. - sueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The girl on Battersea reception took a load of posters of Buster and promised to make sure all staff and customers got some. I don't think they normally do this but I explained that Rose and Frank are pensioners and they are extremely upset by Busters disappearance. Gave posters to people at Victoria station and along the district line (think I'm getting the name of the nutty woman with her little dog as I'm there so much)!!! It's helpful that I've got my dog with me as people make a fuss of her and then I give them a poster ;) Will do some more outstanding phone and fax for next few days.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have now postered parts of West, SE & SW London, parts of Sidcup, lots of the cabbies in London, the Sainsbury, Tesco and Parcelforce delivery drivers in my area, the people that work on the barges on the Thames!, the vets and shops in my area and someone has taken some for Stansted Airport. I am going to Battersea again today so will take some more for the 'customers' and anyone along the way. Still have some of the vets in SW & SE London to do that didn't have email addys and will try to finish those early next week. Will still try and poster more in SW & SE London next week again. Really hope and pray it is Buster in the house near you. Katie xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Eve, - No news on either unfortunately. We are still hoping the little one we were told about living up the road from me is him, but no-one has been able to see him yet. All we need is a positive sighting then the police will apparently do the rest. The lady who chanced upon seeing him originally has not been in touch since, so I guess she hasnt been able to get a further glimpse. We have heard the dog barking & whilst we cant say its positively him by his bark alone, it does sound very much like him. What we need is Dog the Bounty Hunter...or maybe Bounty the dog hunter, eh?!! sueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have to work now :( Emailed posters to Battersea, BlueX, Dogs Trust,Wood Green,Mayhew,RSPCA. Again phone/fax Animal Welfare Orgs with no email today/tomorrow. Going to various parts of London on Thursday (will also give posters to the black cab drivers I know to pass around) and Battersea Dog's Home on Friday (probably) so will carry on with posters etc in those areas. Getting my local Essex area - Chadwell Heath, Romford, Dagenham, Barking started today - have also enlisted a couple of other helpers. Many thanks to all your support everyone :o) We arent sure if its Buster or if its a local dog that is known to wander about in the area. Im sort of hoping it isnt Buster. The wardens were up there today and are going to regularly keep an eye up there, plus mum, hubby & mums friend have been up there searching & postering (didnt find any dogs though). The golf course have taken copies of the poster to give to all their green keepers which is a great idea as there is a large amount of land there that the general public cant get to, but the keepers can! Also the village pub & postoffice/shop have been postered & told about the updates etc, so hopefully everyone in Brook & Bramshaw will be in the know if they see a small dog on their land. sooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi sue W Yep wardens on the agenda for first thing tomorrow morning (the woman didnt phone me until about 7pm this evening or we would have let them know sooner). I have to go to hospital tomorrow with a relative but mum & my hubby plus a couple of friends are going out that way in the morning, also if neccesary again after lunch. There is only one shop in that area and many years ago I used to work in there, they are the oracle of the village and will know all the goings on. Of course someone else in the village may already have helped the little guy, in which case the shop there will no doubt know all about it. Mum is going in to see them tomorrow with an up to date poster & ask them to keep their eyes peeled & ask around their locals etc. Oh sue how horrible for that poor cat...some people are beyond understanding :o( sooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thats so sad. Sue you must go and any helpers that way please find some time to help. No defence of the woman, but she would have been lucky to find anyone to help on a Sunday. That said, first thing this morning she should have been on the phone. Even if it isn't Buster, the creature needs help. There are people around who just don't think and walk on by - too busy to stop and be bothered. I live next door to someone who did that with a cat. For a week it lay in their garden and they ignored it. I thought it was napping under their hedge. It finally crawled to my doorstep, covered in maggots and flies. I rushed it to my vet, but unfortunately too late it didn't make the night. Her response was "its not my cat, it belongs to so and so up the road". We will never speak again after the choice words I called her. Whoever this dog belongs too it needs help. Please local helpers, find a bit of time (lunchtime maybe) and tie up with Sue to search for this dog tomorrow. Sue, you should also try the RSPCA. They may just have someone spare to help and the animal is clearly sick. Heres hoping. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Possible sighting in Brook near Bramshaw yesterday (sunday 22 oct). Very bedraggled , poorly, hungry looking dog fitting the bill including a red collar, looked like it was starving to death. The person who phoned to let me know today didnt want to approach it as she thought it was a stray dog. She said she remembered thinking how ill it looked. She did not let any rescue centres or wardens know as far as I'm aware, she only saw our poster today so she rang me straight away, but after 24 hours he could be anywhere wandering, or worse. Also she was under the impression that he was so ill he wouldnt get very far. What else can I say? Shall we go up there tomorrow to look for an emaciated dead dog? If anyone is around that area please keep your eyes peeled for this animal, whoever he is, he needs some attention desperately. 24 hours might have been the difference between this little dogs life & death. I dont know what else to say now, I really dont, at the moment I am speechless. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This afternoon we had a possible sighting of Buster, (if not him, then someone elses dog) running loose in the ashurst bridge estate area of west totton, although no one had caught him at the time of the phone call. The man who phoned said he had just been looking at the poster when he saw the dog being pursued by a couple of lads. He even called out Buster and the dog turned round to look at him, but didnt go to him. He said it looked like the loose dog had pinky bits on his face...I dont know what that was & not sure I want to know, maybe been scavenging in bins for food or something? New posters will be printed this evening & we will concentrate on the west totton area, on ashurst bridge estate first & work our way around the area. If anyone is in that area & would like to help please get in touch with me on 02380868828 sooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry Ive not been on to read messages my pc blew up this week and I've only just got online properly again as I had to buy another one! I will definitely ring Jayne on monday. Hi Bobble, many thanks for your support :o) We did think he had been sold in London but we have had a few bizarre things happen and we are mostly of the opinion at the moment that he is a lot more local to us than we first thought. People are still noticing our posters too, which is good. I did feel sorry for a local chap that I saw walking a dog that was the spitting image of Buster except for his tail...I reckon he will be getting stopped by lots of people asking him about his dog...poor bloke! Busters story is being updated and will be in the New Forest Post again not sure if it's in this weeks or next weeks, I havent picked this weeks up yet. Really hoping that someone will spot him soon. Ive sent letters and posters to most of the local vets, still a few forest ones to do. Then I need to do more for the pet shops that I havent already done. Unfortunately so far Ive not been able to retrieve all my photos and documents which are still stuck on my blown up hard drive...argh. If I cant get them back I'll have to redo them all from scratch which might take a couple of days. Many thanks for all the support & help from everybody :o) sooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Sue, This must be so frustrating for you. I have found Doglost via your ebay campaign and am passionate about getting Buster home. I used to work for the emergency services, but cant think of any contacts that would help. Unfortunatly I moved 170 miles away since then, so dont even know the locals or locals to you. I have not read the listings through, any idea where he is, so that your many supporters could saturate that area? Keep us posted. LynLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well as yet no joy with anyone returning him of their own accord unfortunately. We have a vehicle registration & also a phone number now, not neccesarily related and the phone call may be cranky but I dont think so. Guess What? The police will not follow them up, happy to update the incident paperwork, but thats as far as they can stretch. Why can't normal members of the public access details about car ownership and telephone numbers if the people who are supposed to do it for us wont? I know they are stretched beyond limit, so why not have a special team of non police who can do this sort of stuff, the stuff that they consider not important enough? I would willingly do it if could help people have peace of mind that someone else was helping and not putting barriers in the way. Very disillusioned at the moment & wondering what the next step might be, other than to place bill board ads. sueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As of thursday we have a possible lead, as we think a person has seen Buster with his new owners, they are reasonably local too. We also believe they were unaware that Buster was stolen, but the person who knows them has seen our posters & has now told them. We are now waiting to see if they will come forward to return him of their own accord. Here's hoping!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A quick update for anyone who is following this one. We are still campaigning vigorously. We have lots of helpers who continually go out postering for us. We have auctions running on ebay to raise awareness of Busters plight and have had support from people around the country, asking for posters to distribute etc. We have also been sending mail shots to vets, shelters etc. There are still lots of them to contact. At the moment we are concentrating on local-ish ones, & also south london. Dorset & Wiltshire areas are next on the list, and we already have some support in those areas just from our ebay auctions for Buster! sueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
New Forest Dog Warden Service
Hello - If a dog is taken to one of the Animal Rescue Centres, they are supposed to contact or advise the finder to contact the Local Authority in the area where the dog was found, as it could already be reported missing by its owner. they should not take it in until it has completed the statutory seven days at the Local Authority Holding Kennels as a stray dog. All the Dog Warden Services in Hampshire have been informed that Buster is missing and are in contact with each other. Two more JRT's were seized by the Dog Warden Service yesterday, unfortunately neither one was Buster, we will keep looking for him until he is safely reunited with his owners. Have just had a look at the page carolw has mentioned. These people are horrendous, trying to steal from the owner while the owner is actually standing there with the dog...what ARE they like?!!! I know that when Buster is found the first thing that they will do is have him chipped, although that still isnt a guarantee but its extra protection. We have now had some information that suggests he may have actually escaped from his captors and was seen (wire haired with no collar) charging off down the salmon leap. He disappeared into the wild down there, whoever this dog was, so my hopes are that someone found him and either took him in, or took him to the rspca or blue cross or something similar. Going to contact them all again tomorrow just in case. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone. just for your information, the mysterious 'Jake' mentioned by Sooeey previously has been seized as a stray dog and is currently at the councils holding kennels. We are now waiting for the owner to get in touch to claim him, the telephone details are unobtainable. Everybody in the Totton area seems to be aware that Buster is missing as the finders mentioned that they thought it might have been him at first, unfortunately not though. Is Jake still loose aswell then? Lots of people saw Jake last week, everyone thought he was Buster & we had loads of calls about him, but no-one could catch him & keep hold of him. He was around the calmore park area next to the schools. some kids found another little JR this afternoon and phoned me, when I went it was a sweet little female, pretty much in season & with a chain collar but no tag. The wardens have taken her in now, so hopefully someone else will get there dog back soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is a very similar call that Kelly's owner had. They hung up and never called again. They are cowardly and always withhold their number. So far as tracing, yes they do but it is normally a telephone kiosk again because the thieves are too cowardly. A genuin finder would just be glad the dog is back home. Sooey don't be too dispondent with their attitude for that reason. I am so glad to see we have the New Forest warden on site, as we have a couple missing in their area. Jake? Winchester petsearch thank you and all you other helpers. Poster poster poster please. Jayne, Allison is very limited on what she can do internally if its out of her area. Hope something shows up soon. I am very impressed with the dog wardens here and hope word of mouth will bring lots more to Doglost for information and reconciliation. Come on Buster boy, tell us where you are. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone,we had a report of a stray Terrier at Deerleap near Ashurst today (the area where Oscar was reported being seen when he was lost), we went straight out there to search for it. Although we did not get the dog, a dog walker had seen it close up on a short time before we arrived and it was thought to be a Westie or Cairn type. Further searching and speaking to more dog walkers determined that the dog was off a nearby farm and is seen on a regular basis, the dog will not go to people but is happy to follow them on their walk! Sad thing is that irresponsible dog ownership causes false trails to be checked out and prematurely raises hopes. The owners of this dog will be getting a visit from the Dog Wardens soon as we had to then go off and deal with another stray dog! Neil & Rachel Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The female Terrier found by the lady was reunited with her owner by the Dog Warden Service at approximately 6.30pm. We are still searching for Buster and monitoring fellow Dog Warden messages. This afternoon we thought we were on to something re a tan and white Terrier found at Bramshaw, when we seized it, it turned out to be a brindle and white (subsequently reunited with owner). We will continue to do all we can to help Buster's family get him back safe. Neil & Rachel.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a call this afternoon from a lovely sounding lady who had found a white and tan jack russell just walking along salisbury road by itself. She hadnt seen our poster but someone else she knew had seen it so she rang us up to ask if the dog was ours. The one she found though was female with a silver collar & the tail was thumb docked. I said to her please take the dog to the police station or phone the warden as someone somewhere will be looking for her, even though she isnt the one we were looking for. It does prove though, that people are noticing our posters and looking out for him... Also it means that by now someone else will have been reunited with their little dog :o)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes those posters are coming down with a vengeance. We are putting them up again though, we have several helpers who are continually putting them up for us, & my printer has over heated twice now with the print runs! We got some media interest from the Daily Echo, Matt Smith has a story which we hope will be in the paper this week, he has spoken to Frank and he has the photos of Buster which I hope he will put in the paper too. We can only hope the editor likes cute dogs enough to say yes to the story. Also contacted Meridian but not heard back from them yet. We have had a couple of false leads, bound to happen I suppose but always worth checking them out. Someone saw a white & brown terrier running around in the road by Testwood club last friday, a young lad was trying to round him up. dont know if it was him or not as we only heard about this today. Our posters are going out to Romsey aswell as other places. Everytime they come down, we will replace them. Ive got an auction running on Ebay currently. I would love it to be high profile enough to get some dog lover with tons of cash to buy it for silly money so we can put big colour ads in the national newspapers! Wishful thinking but the point is that if people look at the auction its making them aware of Busters disappearance all round the country, so even if it doesnt raise any money it might raise some awareness. I am ever the optimist! If you want to see the auction the number is 110037049636. I'll be putting more auctions on as soon as I get some more items that will appeal to animal lovers! We know about Coombes place, just up the road from us. Everytime we go past there we slow down and look, but the trouble is you really need to go right in to see properly, and its not a managed site so if we go in we'll need the help of other travellers I think. I used to know several many years ago but dont know where any of them are now unfortunately. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The Dog Warden Service has been out looking for Buster again. Noticed that some of the posters we had put up had been torn down, luckily Busters family had put up another lot in the area. We put a poster up at the Travellers site that Vivienne mentions. We have also liaised with our colleagues the Test Valley BC Dog Wardens and they have checked out a report of Travellers in Romsey. It turns out that the solitary Traveller has lost his two dogs! The fact that the posters are being torn down perhaps shows that the person with buster lives nearby? Thanks sue! We are still trying to speak with Alison, mum rang yesterday but she wasnt available and they told mum Alison would ring her back, but she didnt get chance I guess as we didnt hear from her. I am going to ring her again this morning & hopefully speak to her. We have had a couple of good leads and piecing together what info we now have it does look as if he was picked up by travellers. We now know where they picked him up & what time it was and that they probably used the phone box where they took him from to phone mum and Frank, and thats why the number was witheld, because it was the phone box. This is why I want to find some way of checking out the local site without doing the wrong thing. I once walked onto a travellers site accidently & its not something I want to do again. I think the wardens told mum that if we can spot him somewhere the police will actually go and get him for us, its just the spotting him thats the problem at the moment. Hoping for a better day today, I know Frank is suffering terribly with all this so the sooner we get the little fella back the better. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thankyou for all the support we really appreciate it. Thanks especially Gordon, Frank not coping very well, mum is calm as always but she must be so missing the little guy, I'm sat here now crying myself silly at the nastyness of this person who has him, I cannot understand this sort of person at all. But everyone is doing a grand job and I think if Buster is still local he will be spotted, there are so many concerned people its restored my faith in humanity today. Princess Jo we tried Bt but the numbers are hidden from them aswell unfortunately. Although we had a phone call this evening from someone who saw buster being picked up by someone at the phone box and we now think that is where the original phone call came from, as Frank did say that there was noise in the background, not exactly pub noise, but just noise. A phone box witholds the number automatically so we have now got the impression that it might have been someone driving past, maybe narrowly missing him (i hope) on the road, which of course means that he may not be as local as we hoped. We are out with more posters in the morning, so hopefully that will jog someone elses memory. Sometimes you just feel so useless though.... Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

NFDC Dog Wardens have put up 30+ posters around the Calmore and Totton area as well as carrying out an extended patrol of the area. This area falls within the responsibility of Totton Police Station, Alison works at Hythe Police Station and it may be outside her operational area? Beaulieu Road Pony sales are on tomorrow and the Dog Warden Service will be attending on the off chance that Buster may have taken there? The Out of Hours Contractor who works for NFDC has been contacted and updated on the situation. The Dog Warden Service advised a member of Buster's family earlier that Radio Solent be contacted as they run a missing pet section in the afternoons. Police were invlolved but refuse to get the witheld number because its not a 'serious' enough crime, apparently they can only do the number trace for terrorist crimes, or child abductions etc. We are printing off lots of posters to go round locally and will be visiting all the pet shops etc as soon as possible. He belongs to my mum and stepdad and we all miss him like mad, he is a smashing little dog. Thanks for your concerns. The caller withheld their number and nothing has been heard since. The police are aware and posters are going up,New Forest Dog Wardens are also actively searching the area If you have any information regarding this dog please contact the New Forest Dog Warden Service on 023 8028 5202 The owner is disabled and the dog means the world to him so let?s hope we can trace him.
