You beat me to it goldenfrodo .. thanks!
Very pleased for Carol and the Happily Ever After Dog Rescue and hopefully Mickey will be fine now.
I had the message that:
He's a little thin but very happy to be reunited, covered in ticks so will be off to the vets for a full MOT Carol is as you can imagine overjoyed.

CJ If you look at the FindMickey page you will see that Carol had bn getting rude tel calls re her dog training.

I have to hand it Carol .. she has from the moment Mickey went missing been out in those woods for long hours and in inhospitable terrain looking for her dog. As she is disabled that is some mean feat and I am delighted she has had a happy ending. Good on her!!

I'm truly shocked to read of what's going on but would ask that you please reconsider posting on DL. Mickey's page has had over 12,000 views so far, with 45 followers and I know quite a few people do not use Facebook or Twitter and those that do have posted and tweeted wherever possible......... Sending loving thoughts your way. You sound like a lovely family and I'm sure your boy will be back snuggled up with you soon. It really was a game of patience with my friends dog - they would spot her in the woods but then she would dart off again. The frustration was enormous, being so close yet so far and emotionally and physically draining, but they did get her home in the end! It sounds like you have a great team helping and I wish I could do more myself but I'm a bit far away in North Wales. However, most of my friends are dog crazy so Mickey is being shared all over FB. My friend got her dog back after a few days because she had eventually become quite tired, and it made her easier to catch. ((hugs)) Jo Last edited: 2014-07-25 16:37:52 by jostenning

So What a day. It started terribly with my daughter being utterly distraught due to an inappropriate message for a child to cope with being given to here rather than speaking to me.

However we have moved on and now have a fantastic team working together, we have the equipment we need and the people we need all, no idea how long this is going to take but we will soon see him safe and home.

Thank you everyone and Jostenning, yes we did the things you suggest. I even crawled into the wood and was in there for around 17 - 18 hours with bait, smelly meat and the other dog.

With being a fairly recent rescue from Romania I think he had reverted to being a feral dog thus I have confidence in the hunters we have working with us.

SO rock on tonight, please send good vibes that tonight's the night - there is a limit to the number of nights one can hold a meeting in their bedroom at 2am :)
jostenning
Hello, I have shared your details personally with the editor of Dogs Today Magazine - I noticed that she has cross posted for me and in turn there are lots of shares being made of your link.

I'm sure you have already thought of everything in trying to get Mickey back but a couple of ideas just in case (from when my friend lost her dog and he was also being spotted in woodland) - I think they do tend to stay close to water courses etc. Anyway, she took a little disposable barbecue to the woods and cooked sausages on there - the smell of a barbecue managed to lure the dog close enough to be captured.

Just remember to keep safe obviously, making sure everything extinguished etc when finished, but I was thinking that Mickey will have a much greater sense of smell than most dogs to compensate for his lack of sight, so wondered if it was worth a try - and the weather/light nights are certainly favourable.

Also, my friend tried with leaving out some tinned cat food as that has quite a strong smell that dogs are attracted to. I really hope you are reunited soon. xx

This has been posted by Mickey's owner today.

"Some horrible greedy person has been using Mickey's photo and a disability sob story to try to recruit people to find MIckey independent of the 'official' team in return for a share in the reward

Around an hour ago Mickey had been seen and was being followed by someone who is trained in tracking .. they were just trying to keep him in their sights and in the area. Unfortunately a helicopter came over and spooked him, but he is still in the woods. Last edited: 2014-07-23 15:16:55 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
Its great he is staying in same area. He is going to be easily spooked if in an area he does not know so smell and sounds will be his eyes.
If seen again they need to call his name in low soft tones. Have some smelly food to hand and if near enough to throw it close to him. Do not make sudden moves or will cause him to run away as no idea who is making the noises.
Its good to use the other dog and if can make him or her bark maybe Mickey will recognise.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks for your message sarahw.
Another new sighting by Carol's daughter about 45mins ago .. but Mickey ran off. It seems he is staying in the same area for now.

I have advised Carol that it may not be a good idea to have too many people searching that area as it may just scare him into going further away. Carol is out there with her other dog and is just sitting to see if Mickey will come to her. There have been more sightings this morning in same area.

Carol has requested that volunteers watch exits to the woods and to sit in laybys on th A590 as he was seen trying to get from the woods to the road.

PLEASE do NOT try to catch Mickey or call him .. make a note of exactly where he is & which direction he goes in.

PLEASE do NOT chase him as it may just scare him into running out of the area. Then let Carol know or post on this page.

URGENT APPEAL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
We have had a SIGHTING in the woods about 10 mins ago and need as many people as possible sat watching exits of the woods (Haverthwaite heights aka parrock wood, close wood and grubbin wood if you are looking on google maps). Basically the area encircled in blue on the sat image lower down page. Thank you

Thanks goldenfrodo! I hv messaged you on forum and Fbk (I think!) If Ray or Jenny are able to help I think it would be a great idea. Mickey seems to be in the same area today and I've seen comment that more food was taken from where it was left (during today) but obviously they can't sure if it's him taking it.

Request from Carol:
We still NEED people to stick up POSTERS and walk through Haverthwaite Heights or for the more adventurous the open access land to the North of Haggs Lane. Phone for Directions 015395 30432

I should have thanked everyone who is helping before now .. but please know that all your efforts are much appreciated.

Have talked to Jenny and hope we don't need you though it will be lovely to see you tomorrow if we need you. Thank you

UPDATE on BLIND MICKEY lost dog

We have had a newly reported sighting from yesterday in a similar area to the other one. IE In the woods near the Haverthwaite - Lakeside tracks

I was out to catch dusk in a location we knew he had visited when I heard barking further north in very wild land.

We have scent marked the perimiter of the original search area with house smells, blood, and a bitch in heat.

SEARCHERS We need people in hiking boots with maps and know how to stay safe to go to this new potential area. Main focus will stay near the steam railway so we do still need people for this more civilised area too.

A sensitive issue: I am disabled and my health is starting to get in the way. Principally my sight is getting to the point I am not safe out in my powerchair.

I am grateful for every share, reward pledges, searching, everything. It is overwhelming.

Please end all posts with #findmickey this means the kids can do clever things with twitter to get the message further.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks janiejewel1649 .. it's the Doglost advice that I have passed on to them.
Thanks CJ .. more good advice. Squeaky toys have already been suggested by friends on the Fbk page. Only 2 sightings so far but not too far from home so hoping Mickey will sniff his way home. Last edited: 2014-07-21 23:09:46 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
Also use the plotting and mapping info sent on as well. Lost dogs move in a triangle- from marking places seen you may be able to predict areas will move into.
Scenting is going to be the best way forward as a blind dog would have a heightened sense of smell. Hearing will also be good so any noisy toys that he has played with could be used in areas where walking searches are being done.
If areas sighted are places where you can drive to leave engine running as often a dog will recognise its owners vehicle.
CarolH
I laid a scent trail back from the last sightings yesterday. We really need a sighting this morning now so we know where to focus.

This is a massive rural area, so we could have passed him hundreds of times.

The main focus is still backbarrow and now heading up to Finsthwaite though we don't have a sighting there it is possible he has headed the wrong direction out of the woods.

The treats have been taken from the t-shirt near the finsthwaite/Newby Bridge cross roads but we dont know if that was Mickey

Has Mickey got his own fb page? May we have a link to make it faster to share, so those of us too far to help search can help get the word out?
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions.
Although this is way out of my area, I'm hoping our Doglost North West area Co-ordinators do not mind that I have sent out Doglost advice and a couple of emails to CarolH.
I have suggested leaving bedding and food, setting up a scent trail and BBQ's .. all of which are being done by CarolH and her helpers.
As Mickey has been seen twice and once was quite close to his home I really feel that he will be found soon. Hopefully his acute sense of smell will help lead him home.
It may be difficult to catch him now as he will be very scared, but I have forwarded Doglost advice to CarolH on how to do this.

CarolH .. you are doing everything you possibly can and it seems you have some very good people supporting you in your search to find your lad. Keep it up and I am sure your efforts will be rewarded.
Come on Mickey .. please get that nose working and make your way home.

I know there is someone just joined the search but I am worried I might have offended them as they arrived at the pub to help, and phoned, I sent daughter to meet them, really am grateful for everyone's help, whether that is getting the word out or searching,

The kindness of strangers is overwhelming xx

Just got this, via Carol's FB page SIGHTED.. about half an hour ago. "Susanne Hall Update:- Micky was seen in woods near our house just over 2 hours ago. Hopefully we'll find him soon."

Current focus:

Whitewater Hotel, Fostestry land of to the left of the fisthwaite/Newby Bridge, Open land to the right of that cross roads on the Newby bridge road, as far as swan hotel. All roads between these pionts. This is based on the Whitewater possible and where I walk the dogs
CarolH
at 7AM this morning there was something in the garden of a house near the bridge at the Whitewater hotel at Backbarrow. This house backs onto the railway, they thought it might be a dog at the time but did not get a good view of it. This is on the route of one of my dog walks.

Waiting for someone to house sit/mind the phone then will take Neo to see if he can find him for us.

Thank you every one and every one who is sharing the information. Update is as follows:

It seems Mickey was let out of the house in our absence. I was last out and with how I took Mickey's lead off and closed the door there is no way it had been left open.

Sightings:

2pm near Anglers Arms. There is some confusing as people have been talking about a spaniel around the village so we don't know if this is Mickey.

This Evening there have been sightings around the Haverthwaite cross roads on A590 Myself, my friend and children have been out looking since 4pm and have seen nothing.

Due to no forced entry and sightings police are not treating this as a stolen dog.

Thank you every one and thank you for support for rewards, apologies for not updating sooner but I have been out looking.

Happiness, he was taken from his house. A door was found open on their return from shopping.
Mickey has not been with them for long but they have been working bery hard on his training and socialising and he is doing really well. His owner is obviously absolutely distraught, so please, any help you can offer for postering or sharing on social media is greatly appreciated.

I agree Angus .. so easy to 'miss' a dog hiding in a strange place especially when you are frantic and thinking 'where has he gone'
Hope Mickey is found soon.
DogLostAngus
We have had some very strange places that dogs have got trapped - they may go very quiet and no bark as you may expect - I personally have dealt with a dog that spent 24 hours inside a recliner sofa seat and one that got into the attic via the loft ladder - I also know of a dog that spent 2 days in a draw at the bottom of an old fashioned wardrobe so please check all weird places - I think we had one under decking too squeezed into about a 6 inch gap
