Haven't checked Blaze's page for a while, but sad to see he's still missing. :(

Just started a new job where Im updating their "Lost and Found" book-maybe I can atleast help other owners get theirs back. Sadly Blaze has still not returned home to us. He'll be getting on in years now..if he is still walking the earth that is. ):

Lillyb, there is a poster phone number on that found dog's page - I assume it's the number of Mahootny, the person who posted - may be worth a ring to see what you can find out?   Would so love to see Blaze back home again where he belongs, he looks such a gorgeous boy.   Be safe, Blaze xx Mollychops, if you go in on Advance Search on left hand side you can put in names of dogs you want to find - Maggie and Bishop both still missing, would be lovely to see them both "in the blue" xx    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I also think of Blaze and so recognised that gorgeous face immediately! I can't believe that it's actually 2 years since Blaze went missing. I hope that (like with other 'lost 'long-termers' on this site) that Blaze's chip will be scanned and reunited. Hoping and praying for a happy ending very soon.

Hello to all at Doglost. Leighanne Beart here (aka lillyb-Blaze's owner), Ive just seen a post from millie's mum on our page about trying to 'turn up the heat' in finding South West missing dogs and i wonder if i can send another photo of Blaze to you? It is a more recent one and wonder if you think it would be a better one-in the way of detail? Or is it possible to show the both? Would you be able to edit the poster details too? Maybe saying the original details from September 2006 and that we have had a fair few 'possible sightings' but nothing concrete. We are always extremely grateful of your help and advice and hope that it will pay off in the end! And who knows, maybe we'll get Blaze back for this Christmas.... Thanks again...e mail from owners. Posters printed, and will be put up in Somerset, TA8. Blaze can not have just disappeared into thin air. Riding on the success of Buddy's return, let's turn up the heat on all of our South West dogs that are still missing. It's been a long time, but hang on in there Blaze, we are looking for you. Can all Dog lost helpers who visit this page, please email a copy of Blaze's poster, to all of their friends and family where ever they live in the UK. As we all know, missing dogs are not always found in the area in which they were lost. Thank you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

always positive and always speaking to Blaze, he is somewhere and we will not give up hope at all. we miss him and will always have him with us in our hearts and minds till him is here again. yes there are the occassional doubts and they are soon dispersed with the positive vibes we keep getting. so many times we all get feeling at the same time ....he is somewhere, with someone we reckon. only waiting till they find the chip or he is spotted again . thanks for all the continuing thougths and hopes. all appreciated so much. our thoughts go to those in similar position and those who have just lost a loved presence within the family.hurry home all of you .xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

WOW. Thankyou all so much for thinking of Blaze so much. I have just popped on here and cant believe all the response still here after such a time. You have restored some hope yet again! I must admit these past few weeks have been some of the hardest..like you say-its a rollercoaster! And as for the sighting on the poster-that was a good while back. We have not heard much for a while-is it possible to change the poster? Maybe back to something along the original lines? With something about various "possible sightings"...is that possible? Thankyou for having him up the top again for while...I only wish it was in the blue section!XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lilyb, just a comment regarding the medium that contacted you, there is a medium that has been giving readings regarding dogs on Doglost, and she has told every owner that she has contacted, that there dogs have passed on, they cannot all be passed on, and all died in the same way. The problem with using mediums is that we believe the things we want to believe, and ignore anthing that we dont want to hear, so whats the point. I do believe to a cetain extent, but the one thing that puzzles me, is if these people can do what they say, why arnt they all lining up to take the reward money for finding Madelaine McCann. Blaze is so distinctive im sure he will be found, but not through a physic.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So sorry Blaze is still not home. Stay positive, dont worry over what the 'medium' said. Unless they are from this site & there are genuine mediums around-do not take notice. I have spoken to people from this site & they have been sensible but true in there information. I know from experience what this roller coaster is like. My friends two boys are still missing but like you we wont give up.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have sent you a pm about this so-called medium, but I want to say here what I think is true: such people have no special powers, no special insight, and are merely exploitative of people in distress. Ignore her. I live in South Devon and always keep an eye open for your lovely Blaze. He's chipped - you're right not to give up. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Maybe his poster could be circulated further afield now in the hope of new information?????....... HQ, please? Thankyou Piratedog. We had a call from a medium we contacted last year (my mum had sent her a fresh poster last week). She told us again that she feels Blaze has passed on..due to water somewhere along the line. Very upsetting to hear again. Its the not knowing isnt it. Plus it was pouring rain that night so that could be the water..?who knows. Just wherever he is I hope he's happy and if he can...come on home. Blaze is now 10 years old! It was his birthday yesterday and it breaks our hearts to know he is not at home getting spoilt rotten! I had to take myself away from pet stalls at a local show the other day as it is the norm to buy either a toy or food treat for him...let just hope we'll have plenty of reason to do that one day soon when he is home again. Come on Boy! We have put a couple of posters out at two service stations on the way to Kent this weekend....and some will be going out this week in preparation for the Bank Holiday weekend...Fingers crossed!!! Haven't posted on here for a while, but Blaze is one of my favourites and I do keep an eye on his page. How about having some plastic carrier bags printed with his details on? You could persuade local grocers/petshops/charity shops to use them to give to customers, and as they wouldn't be paying it would save them money! I know carrier bags are a bit of a no-no these days, but all dog owners re-use them! Not sure how much they'd cost, but the ones they give you in local stores shouldn't be too expensive. Just a thought. Really hoping that all the summer holiday tourists are keeping their eyes peeled for this lovely boy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

www.bbc.co.uk/animalrescuelive This is the website for a programme running on bbc1. I just so happen to be off work today and caught the end of this programme set at Battersea, trying to find homes for dogs and cats. I Have Submitted Blaze's Story on here to see if they can do anything. I plugged this website with the hope they can include it or run a story...any chance we can all get onto them and see if DogLost can get some publicity. We have not heard anything from Blaze in a while, had a sighting of a possible Blaze lookalike in Dunster a couple of weeks ago...but nothing since. I am going to Cornwall tomorrow for a few days so will be doing up some fresh posters to take with me. Always hoping! Lilly XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello all Sorry ive been away for a few days. Still no Blaze! I went to Chulmleigh on Friday and all the people i saw down there were ever so helpful! I went to the farm where the dog was spotted and the farmer was kind enough to take me out on his bike to the field. He drove me around it and left me to my own devices. We did see a dead lamb too which he said the dog would be likely to come back to if he left it there a little longer...(although hopefully Blaze wasnt the one who killed it....) I peed and left socks in the field but have heard nothing since... Hopefully he'll be seen again and brought home to us.... Lilly XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

He is going to call around and see if anyone else knows anything else..as the sighting of this dog has passed through a couple of hands so-to-speak..So who knows...I have plans to go away tomorrow until Monday but if i get a call before i leave tomorrow then my tickets may have to wait as my parents are away also-talk about timing hey Blaze! haha?...Lets just wait and see......... hmm i think it doubtful he would be in both areas...i would say its quite a way for the same dog to get to..but everything is possible! This most recent is approx 12 miles south of Chulmleigh where this dog was spotted a couple of weeks ago...so probably around 30 miles from Blackmoor Gate area. Looks like it'll be a drive in the rain for me today hey-it would so much more easy (and bloody lovely!) if he were home now... XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Looks like your dedicated efforts are paying off, and also as if there are probably 2 red & white collies out there of which either could be Blaze. This is a tricky one, and means you have to cover 2 separate areas. As you have well scented the local one, time to work on the other perhaps? Please can you tell us what is approx distance between the 2 sighting areas as the crow flies? I'm trying to work out if he could in fact be moving between the 2 areas but it looks rather far.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank Fiona for offering that trap. It would be better than a fox trap, as Blaze appears to be a fairly tall collie. You aren't that far away. I'm sure someone has a suitable vehicle to move it.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Here we are again...another sighting...although not tying in with Blackmoor Gate-but possibly back to the Chulmleigh one... I dont really know what to do! We just have to follow up every sighting, its mad isnt it? When i got back in from postering Challacombe/Blackmoor Gate area there was an answer phone message from a gentleman who was on his way to Exeter and saw a dog (very) similar to Blaze heading along the road between Yeoford and Cheriton Bishop in the Woodland Head area, West of Crediton. He said it was just trotting along the roadside looking very lost and as if it had been out sometime. He tried to call it but it was nervous so wouldnt come and he noticed the dog had a white tip to its tail which Blaze does have. He saw the dog around 11:30 yesterday morning and when he went back through a couple of hours later he didnt see it again.. I have contacted Radio Devon and left messages with Devon Dog Wardens. Short of driving down there again to poster today i dont really know what else to do....? Is there anyone in that area that could help me out? Maybe put some posters up again? I hate to ask but im at a bit of a loose end. Do i come down and call there as well as calling near Blackmoor Gate..? Its all so strange that the calls have really picked up again now after all this time...its draining yet BRILLIANT to know that people are still aware of our boy and i think it gets us closer to that lovely blue colour you have on here....fingers crossed Blazel. a lot of animal shelters have dog traps, or know where to loan one from. alternatively they cost no more than ?200 and are actually fox traps (some suppliers won't know what your talking about if you ask for a dog trap-speaking from experience!). Stay safe blaze and come home soon. xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wow im over-whelmed with your thoughts and help. Thankyou thankyou! I will get on that website for the campsites. Im going to do up more up to date posters tonight and get them laminated and head out in the morning..or all afternoon tomorrow after work (bloody work!) I stayed near Blackmoor Gate last night...no luck, just quite a restless night with lots of calling and whistling whenever i stirred, walked around this morning at dawn and left an old tshirt up near there..its so tiring getting out alone and so disheartening when we dont get him when we want him. Anyway i will get on with posters now. Again THANKS! And hopefully we'll get the result we want soon!!!! XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

FAO BLAZE's OWNER. Thank you so much for telephoning me after looking at the rescue web pages - as you said, the dog they had rehomed looks like the double of Blaze. So disappointing it wasn't him, but worth checking. I will keep an eye out for any dog shows on soon in that area and email the secretaries and ask them to display a poster on the day. Also, I will let all local border collie folk know as we do travel to show our dogs !! I wish you all the luck in the world and fingers crossed for this weekend. Nina.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I still have a trap lent to me to try and catch Merlin last year and I'm sure the person who lent it won't mind if it's transported a little further west! I don't mind going part of the way or perhaps we can do it in relays. It's huge so will only fit in a van or estate car. Let me know if you need it.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello Jayne, Regarding Blaze. The area he is missing in is very popular with caravan and camping people. Would it be an idea to email the various camping sites. One of the best internet sites for this would be ukcampsite.co.uk. Press campsite search box and enter the area you want........e mail from a helper. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Traps are hard to get hold of we tried about 4 years ago, thats why we bought our own with night vision goggles. Beardie rescue now have them in most areas of the country. Also Martyn have some and is very helpful I can put you in contact with him if needed. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good point. It will be becessary to locate Blaze in a particular area before anyone can think of putting a trap down, otherwise people will be lugging a trap here and there over the moor. Owners could however make some enquiries now of dog wardens to see if anyone has a suitable trap, so that if they need one they won't be phoning round in a panic to find one. This is such good news. As Jazzi has said. Get the BBQ out -the heavenly smell will surely home him in. Make sure you look after dusk and around dawn. The little monkies become nocturnal. Why dont you put some clothing in the area he has been sighted. He will smell you and maybe snuggle up to it.Everything crossed here for you...judyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thankyou Hannah! Well...im not sure what you can do up there... But here's the latest update to this emotional rollarcoaster.... After our phone call from Barnstaple last Wednesday we went out on the weekend and postered all Tarka trail endings on a route we picked out...we have heard nothing since that (so far)...but yesterday we had a message on our answer phone with what COULD be a positive sighting...we just dont know. This guy was very sure of seeing Blaze. However it is in the Challacombe, Exmoor area again...he spotted this dog going "at some pace" over "the chains" (which is an area of moorland) towards Pinkery Pond. Some of you may remember us being called out there a few times before, then to find an extreme Blaze lookalike nearer to Challacombe...however this more recent on is further afield from that one's home (plus the guy who phones knows the farm where that bitch is from)...so who knows. Anyway, he saw this dog on Tuesday 15th of May. As we only spoke to him relatively late this evening and that area is non assessable by road we are hitting the printer hard tonight with the plan of postering tomorrow evening and getting out there for some serious hiking on Saturday....if ANYONE is in that area pleeeeeeease keep your eyes opened a little extra more for out boy! We dont know what thought to go with...has he been with someone and has escaped and is on route home (from Chulmleigh...), has he been out this entire time surviving...? We know one thought though and that he is ALIVE! It is my birthday tomorrow...and just writing that makes my eyes sting at the thought of it being without my lovely Blaze. Thanks for your time in reading this. ANy help is always GREATLY appreciated!!!!! I cant wait for the day to come when he is home and happy where he belongs.................Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I havent personally seen the Devon Journal...will buy copy tomorrow as we're heading to Barnstaple following a call about a possible sighting. A men rang saying he'd seen a large, Lab size brown and white collie on the Tarka Trail near to the new bridge. I dont know that area at all but that is what he said. He said the dog was nervous and even when he returned with biscuits the dog was still there but ran off....this was Tuesday when he saw the dog. He hasnt however seen the dog since returning there...it may well be another dog as it had a collar on..but we're gonna go and poster anyway...!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sue, only a fraction of the stories go on their website, so without someone seeing a copy it's difficult to know. Lilly, the Gazette/Herald/Journal have a missing pets section their site, so send Blaze's details and the local sightings to sally.fairbrother@archant.co.uk. Sian, you could try those Archant titles - they're a little more tabloidy than the Journal/Western Morning News.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We had a phone call from North Devon Dog Warden today-they had a call from a lady in Chulmleigh, North Devon. I then rang this lady and she says she saw a large, "beautiful", bright/rusty/ginger collie dog in a field near to Chulmleigh on Saturday (28th April) and her brother had seen a similar dog in George Nimton sometime during last week. I am printing off more posters tonight and we will get some laminated copies down there tomorrow and over the weekend. Are any of you in that area who could keep you eyes peeled for us? Hello. Still no Blaze but still getting calls from time to time.. ..last night we had one from some people who saw a dog fitting Blaze's description (they had seen our car with his poster in the windows) late Saturday night (around 11:30 ish). They were on the road between Nether Stowey and Over Stowey and this dog was trotting along the road. They didnt say which direction and they apologised for not stopping (bless them, people are so apologetic. We're just grateful of the calls.) but said they dont remember seeing the dog around there before. Two of us went out there last night for a drive around, to let our other dog mark some places, and put posters in various places...pubs, shops, lamp posts and through a few doors...here's hoping!...... Who knows, it may link with the possible sight in Kilve...it is hard though, we have to tailor our hopes. You know we just want it to be Blaze so much. But i dont have to tell you guys that. A big thankyou also whilst im here-to Piratedog! Whilst driving out that way last night we saw lots of extra posters! I can only assume you have a lot to do with that. So-Thankyou again!! It is indeed a shame we couldnt have met up at Crufts! Did you get some more people aware of the situation with dogs? I hope you were able to gather more helpers and advertise your service! It is GREAT! What other ideas were you going to suggest about bringing Blaze home? All thoughts of him are a boost to us and the hope in him being home soon.X Thankyou also TwoDs, always good knowing people are taking his pictures in..XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh, Lillyb, I wish I'd spotted your post about Crufts earlier. A number of us were there on Saturday (including me) and we could have met up and had a chat about a few more things to try.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Blaze is very much on the brain. I am off to Crufts next weekend (with our Terrier) and im planning on postering somewhere along the line...do you think i will be able to? Does Doglost have any stickers or other promotional items that i can take with me as advertising for you?? We all need our dogs home, its just not right without them!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still no Blaze. Woken up by a horrible crack of thunder this morning, hoping that wherever he is that he is feeling safe. No more news from Kilve. We postered the area and my brother walked out there Saturday afternoon but did not see anyone. I was down visiting friends in Cornwall so put up a few posters in service stations on the way home. One lady was particularly helpful and took an extra poster that she promised she would take to the vets the following day! Some people really go out of their way! I am hoping to get extra posters throughout the country as time passes by. We will never give up on you Blaze.xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hey all. Just a few updates...who knows what to think but is nice to get a little extra hope...even if false for the time being... My brother took a phone call yesterday from a Minehead couple who were walking in Kilve on Saturday 17th Feb. They said they remembered posters of Blaze and that they saw a couple "acting strangely" with a dog possibly fitting his description. The couple with the dog proclaimed that the dog they had was "not good with other dogs" so they felt the need to keep it out of sight and away from the couple who called us. Now this may be true of course and i cant risk getting my hopes up...but this happened three times when they saw eachother that same afternoon...with the couple purposefully avoiding the other couple who called us.... Might be nothing but we drove out there this afternoon and put up some posters around the beach and in the village shop... Who knows! God knows we hope! Sadly we also saw pictures of the other two little Terriers who are still missing from November. GOOD LUCK KEN! xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lilly your time will come when Blaze is scanned and you get that important telephone. There is one avenue I would take if my dog was missing. I deliver the Merseymart which is a free local paper in Liverpool, Merseyside. Each week there are lots of leaflets to be delivered with it. It may worth getting some small A5 leaflets printed and paying to get them delivered with what ever free local paper is delivered in the areas you want to target. Or approach a company that just do leaflet deliveries. If you could not go the direct route to paper, then try and find out who actually delivers the paper etc and give them say ?5.00. Hope this helps and everyone is rooting for Blaze to come home he is lovely. I am a BC owner myself. If you need any further advice on the leaflet distribution just send me a p.m. Luv Jan (Liverpool) xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, Dad's dedication is a massive inspiration! He is, however, away for a little while now and unsure how often he will check on here and id really love BLAZE here at home for such an amazing New Year gift....other than postering a little further afield again and getting intouch with some veterinary magazines i dont really know other routes that we havent tried already..... Call it fools hope if you will, but i believe we will have Blaze home again someday...and like everyone else, id LOVE that day to be sooner rather than later....any other ideas that we may have missed in the past? Or any fresh ones...i dont care if they sound silly...i just want my dog back...so all ideas accepted... Thankyou all so much for your kind thoughts and wishes, They reeeeally do help us! Thanks again. Lillyb. XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

possible sighting ....last wednesday....heard about it yesterday in Witheridge between south molton and tiverton ,north devon. similar dog? which was lame on back leg (right side) and hair was hort on side, rubbed? mange? but apparently nom one round there knows it . we are heading that weay at weekend the lady who called has had and distributed posters around ....if any one elas able to in area from crediton to tiverton etc below the link road . we have sent some to that area before to post officespubs and farms etc etc but wouild be good to have some about in case it is Blaze. could be farm dog but nothing confirmed either way. hope the tiverton gazette will cover a bit next week and as i say we are heading that way sat/sundat and around further afield too. had a great response from south wales police after we sent poster to them to put out on data base etc ... the constable concerned has sent me a copy of mail he sent out ... was very good and he sent it to all divisions in south wales police area and most of the forces in england too!! ( we have already sent posters to all forces but the fact that he did that for us was brill and we mailed to say so . so there are some about who know the problem and will act to help. Terry Townend at south wales police h.q. is a good contact in that force 01792 456999 ext.52503 if dogs lost in that area or around etc . anyway hope to hear good news on the e dogs on here soon take care all, thx xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

all gone a bit quiet this week but we hope that s a good sign , no sightings , no news, but still lots of hope. we are sending posters to a load of centres . kennels etc nationwide as we can see that Blaze may have been picked up and taken out of area as there is no system here.... no rspca, police not good , no warden working at weekends etc but why has chip not been scanned....so maybe a long shot but we gotta keep doing somethng. thx all Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

no luck it was not even at west hatch as ....wait for it ...the rspca are not allowed to take dogs in any more?not at west hatch anyway ... i eventually traced the log with the police after spending an hour convincing them it was their operator who had told me of it originally and they called me back with details ....or they said they had found it and it was mainly black with a brown head. so no luck there then. so ever onwards till we get him back. cheers Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thx owl. when ever we hear of more possibilities we will be there, van and all etc . but we just do not know where to go to search anymore we are walking all over and will do but its so random it is just whether or not he is out there or settled in a home somewhere. the system is so hap hazard . we have been to kennels today just because we cant be certain he isnt there. checked with polioce who are surprised we are checking as they will tell us if he turns up ....oh yeah sorry I forgot that ?!!!! they gave us one possible long haired collie may have black on it ? may have ? that was supposed to be with rspca at west hatch taunton , via warden... so why then do the rspca central register have no record of it ? cant speak to west hatch as they only do 2 hours on sunday and 4 hours for 5 other days ... unless its wildlife which is manned 11 hours 7 days a week ... dont get me wrong that is brilliant but should there not be similar cover for other animals too? and they do not allow visitors to see the dogs as it upsets them and people complain of the noise. so we have to trust that they know what dogs they have in there. its all a mess a lot of the time but we shall just have to keep going and make call after call etc thx for support Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thx yozzer, just got back in from brendon area as we have had 2 calls today ...1 dog seen near to and going up the road next to the brendon house guest house.l yesterdayat ?time and this morning at 9:30. another call whilst en route that dog seen at 00:30 this am on bridge near the guest house. i went up there and walked for 2 hrs this evening and again tonight but no sightings. we have been up there a few times for adog but it is pretty certainly a 3 legged dog that is prowling for bitches as it has been seen by people we meet when we go there. we did double check the callers about 4 legs and they did say it had all 4 but was lame on the back end....uummmmmmmm,.....so hence our trip up there. did meet the farmer whose dog it is with 3 legs called ....Skippy?!!! and he did confirm it goes all over that area working and or looking!!! but will be going there again in a bit to see what i can see etc and will probably spend night there in area tomorrow. hope for good news and hope others get goodnews too. thx all round.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi all and thanks to jayne for refreshing BLAZE to list. well we went to wellington ....just because we had to really...it may have tied in with the original challacombe sighting which is south of us here and a possible simonsbath sighting that same week and the huish champflower possible etc but no definate date on those ones ...all followed up at the time with no result . but it may be that if he was in that area and moved to a large lake (wimbleball reservoir)....where people go at weekends etc he may have been noticed etc and picked up...no idea why anyone has not claimed large cash reward or had him chip checked but he is a very gorgeous dog and a real catch if you like. obedience trained (and yes we have contacted lots of dog clubs in area and down to devon and surrounding area) and so gorgeous...stop it i will start to blub in a minute... anyway no joy as such in wellington but we did put up some more posters .charity shops , and a couple of cafes...(cafe noir is very nice for a coffee and a piece of cake!) and pet shop, paper shop, postoffice etc all received them with pleasure which was brill. vets too and we have just sent out 2nd batch of posters to vets as far as yeovil etc just in case. we had a call from a man in bude cornwall...he had seen a dog similar in holsworthy or at least holsworty beacon on the way to holsworthy from great torrington. now it seems fantastic and we did not rush down there as it was yesterday anyway..... but we did travel that road and my parents live in rock in cornwall and we did stay with them in our camper the weekend before he went.......you never know do you???that would be a story!! talking of which the west someset free press is going to do a small bit on blaze again along the lines of finding the pbgv and how the system is lacking at present. they have been great with us, particularly Annaleise who I have spoken to and who has been really great and a support too....and may contact you jayne or at least the sitLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi baggy dog-most dogs stay in the area they went missing from BUT most dogs on the loose are picked up by people in cars-so feasible Blaze may have been taken in-most people do not travel more than 30 miles with a strange dog in their car AND most people just leave a report with the police-who do not normally advise them to let the dog warden know or to get the dog checked out for a microchip. ALSO if a person picks a dog up that has been out for a while they presume wrongly that because of the condition of the dog it has been dumped or the original owner did not look after the dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The story about the dog in Wellington is very odd. I see that Blaze is chipped, so if this lady with bike had taken him in, she would surely have got the chip checked out? Another odd thing is that if there's posters in Wellington (a) she may have seen them and claimed the reward (b) she wouldn't have left a 'hot to handle' dog after seeing posters, would she? How far do dogs typically travel when they're on the loose? (Jayne?) It seems a long way, particularly if you don't know Wellington, therefore assume Blaze doesn't either. Look forward to seeing him in blue soon. Pleased he has lots of fur to keep him warm on his travels.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hope this isn't too late and you've left already. The charity shop near Boots is probably Missing Persons. There's also a PDSA who will put up posters and an excellent vet surgery opposite Boots.I've seen a lot of posters of Blaze in Taunton area, will put some up too.Good luck - hope he's home soon - and well done with the PGBV.Have you tried any of the big feed companies too, lots of farmers and dog owners using these and they may display posters.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

just had a call from a couple in wellington ,thats about25 miles away from us who have just seen a paper and poster in milverton post office(which we sent out a week or 2 ago) and they saw a dog last tuesday in wellington highstreet tied to a post outside the 2nd hand shop near Boots? dont know wellington so thats all i got . then a middle aged lady came out and got on her bike with the dog on a lead and off she went. the dog was a collie ...apparently large and very good looking as in the picture. we intend tripping over tomorrow pm as soon as we can with osters etc if anyone is around at all and it rings abell or can poster too ...that would be great . will check on pet shops etc when there. and call at police shop too they have had a letter and poster ..... which them may have lost!!! thanks Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

been out this am from 6oclock in the dark and was joined by 8 others and we walked all through horner woods on lots of the paths and off them too! no sightings of blaze lots of people out and all got cards but most of them knew about him anyway which is good . did bump into a clairvoyant who passed on that blaze had passed over and was with her dog. he had been picked up by someone who did not want to return him, got away and passed on....so ........but we dont see that ourselves and although we dont poo poo mediums at all, its not what we see as the outcome. we did actually come back with a dog from the woods . one of our friends was followed by a heavy basset type dog but curly haired. looks like a basset griffon in our books . white/cream mainly with a grey `saddle` marking. very friendly but noone was within earshot or had lost him . repoted to usuals and local houses but not known of. also localk campsite etc noone claims him yet. will be putting him on here as soon as poss . hope to hear from owner very soon . trying our best to keep blaze coming home and see him sitting with us again soon cheers all, thanks for positive thoughts xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

the last sighting was on top of ley hill above porlock on sunday 15th late pm and was by a lady who has seen the dog as she lives in same road as us so she was convinced it was him. we have been through horner combe all week and scented lots . he should know his route back from there too as it was a regular walk certainly from ley hill which is even closer to porlock. there were 2 other calls from burrowhayes campsite on tuesday 17th from walkers / campers who said they believe it cold have beemn blaze around wilmersham farm at lunchtime. we went straight up and checked within 1 hour of them seeing the dog, first caller said it had some black on it....could be looking very dark and dirty by now? but the downside was that there was a farmer on a quad bike with another dog and this dog dodnt folloe it so they thought it was lost. we went to wilmersham farm and found the quad bike, 4 dogs including a darker dog with som ginger on its face,,,it had been on the top with the farmer a short while previous.so came away a bit gloomy ... then got another call from same campsite from different woman who had seen the picture and thought it was blaze she had seen whilst out just below wilmersham farm at 2 oclockish, off we went to farm and saw farmer who said she had knocked on his door and told him , he had not seen the dog but when we said could it have been one of his he said they very rarely go that way with out someone and he had not been there then...so a good chance it was not his dogs . i walked and scented all the way home and also up another combe to home, no joy so far.we have been around that area am and pm this week and will be with some friends this weekend , going from pool bridge to horner through the wooded coombe and see what we can see. hope for a result... missing him dont get any easier. thx all xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thx again , been around area all this week but no more sightings well we had a nother possible in same area but it was definately a farm dogwhich we saw aswell but then again we can see the possibilities of it being him so are up there dawn and dusk , marking and trailing to home. thinder again last night but if he is there we think he must have a lair by now unless he has just got back into area . going out with others to `sweep through ` woods asap and see what comes out. yep he could be a very different looking dog by now . not quite so striking in colour but we will keep things moving and have loads of love to pil;e on him when he gets back . keep watching xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Was really hoping to see Blaze in blue today. If you have several possible sightings of him in Horner Woods, would it be possible to get a team of people out at daybreak? I think that's when the dogs get on the move again ... and now it's at 6.30 am that's normal dog walking time so it's not asking too much of people is it? You mention 'vague sightings' - when I saw Elmo on this website she looked nothing like the dog I'd seen - because by that time she'd been on the run for two weeks - however I still rang the owners. They sent a few more pics and still I wasn't sure - the only time I was positive was when we found her two days' later. Another thing about sightings is that if people see a dog on the loose and they haven't seen the poster, they may not necessarily think anything of it until they see a poster - then of course they've forgotten some of the detail - people sometimes see what they're expecting to see and not what is actually in front of them. Keep positive, we've all got our fingers crossed for this lovely boy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

cards have gone well with walkers thx again baggy and although we have not had sightings we are sure he is on his way home now. possible sighting on ley hill heading into horner woods but we have been up 4 times since yestaerday and not luck yet but marked trail for him altough he knows that area etc . may need bit of reassurance now. hope it was him and he is looking for home. have ads going into local and north devon paper this week in case we have not got himm back by then, and even had a tv ring because one of their reporters had got one of our 400 letters sent to farms etc on exmoor and thought we may have a story line. fingers crossed thx again all xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My only suggestions are to print out your details business-card size (you can get loads on an A4 sheet of paper and cut them down). Give them to all the dog walkers and people you meet whilst searching. Then if they see Blaze they'll have the number in their dog walking jacket and can hopefully phone you straightaway from their mobile instead of trying to find the posters. When I was helping look for a dog recently I didn't meet anyone who wasn't concerned and they all took the details (this despite the fact I had my loud rescue dobermann with me at the time!) Just before we found the dog the owner had several calls on her mobile, so we knew we were close. Hang in there - wishing you lots of luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What three very tiny-minded people would complain about your posters!?! Actually I think it's probably the "jobsworth" mentality of the warden not having the guts to tell you he's taken them down. Keep positive - these dogs are very resilient and resourceful, and your handsome boy is chipped.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

no real pattern, because they have been vague sightings and only 1 has given time of sighting ...if it was blaze, if it was and he was in challacombe area he could now be near either barnstable depending on direction etc or even taunton/wellington area if he kept on going. but equally he could have gone any direction so no more sightings to help us we have written letters to over 100 farms in area and now going for pubs etc in rural areas as well as readvertise in papers and putting price on reward to see if he is with someone? any suggestions would be welcome as we have sort of hit a wall of thoughts on what to do next.its such a big hole in the family and only blaze can fill it .cheers Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
