- All positive then, I'd be glued to the window with binoculars. Wonder where he beds down for the night. Sounds as if he's at his holiday home LOL

- We have now set up a central feeding station in a quiet part of Garlands garden. He likes to sunbathe on the stubble directly behind the garden and I am driving the Land Rover past him on a daily basis. Today he didn't even get up when I went past so, hopefully, I will be able to take the visiting volunteer almost up to him.

- I had a telephone conversation today with Pam, one of the Spanish volunteers, I told her she would be most welcome here and we do have a spare bed available!

- Hi Jo, Nico was always the first to want to come & sit on our laps and receive a fuss - just hope some of those instincts remain as it maybe we cannot get any bedding etc now - just depends who comes & from where ( One of our members is currently in uk.Can you email me & thereby giving me your email address so we can co-ordinate closely.(or Fb me a friend invite( El Rowe ) so we can PM) Thks

- Hi Les, that would be worth ago if it's feasible for the carer to come over. Nico will have reverted to feral instincts so may not react as he did before when he was under your care but equally you just never know, they can all vary slightly but the majority follow a similar pattern. Will need to offer some advice to carer on what best to do/how to react if she's not had experience of similar.
Sorry I'm not sure on the full background of Nico but if a carer does come over, is there any of Nicos old bedding or is there someone he was very familiar with and a towel or similar could be bought over that they had near them so will have their scent.....would be useful to have to put nearby for him and help gain trust.
Interesting that he wasn't so bothered around the sit on lawn mower Wuzzy, he obviously feels the threatened when someone stands/thinks is going to approach.....we may have to use the lawn mower to our advantage! - 2014-08-20 16:53 El Rowe
- hi Wuzzy, It's possible we have one of his carers who could get over for the weekend- pretty certain he would recognise & respond to her given the chance, but need info / advice pretty soon if travel to be booked. What are your thoughts on that option please?? Thx Les

- He was around all day yesterday although now the wheat has been combined he seems to be travelling further afield, although he may have been before and we just couldn't see him. He doesn't seem so timid if you are not on foot. Yesterday he was quite happy to lay in my neighbours garden watching him on the ride-on mower and if you spot him when you are in a car he doesn't run off instantly. However, as soon as you are on foot he is off.

- I thought he might be greyhound/lurcher height and I know even a large trap isn't big enough for that size of dog. It might not even come to that, he may even walk into one of the ladies houses for food. (only said may)
- 2014-08-19 18:52 El Rowe
- Height floor to shoulder is approx 43cms. Length nose to hind is estimated as 70cms. Hope this is helpful.

- We are back in the UK next week, but we have friends that are happy to collect/aid until we return. He is not too big, think of a particularly tall Jack Russell. I am happy that it is him as all the details match.
If he is secured we will get someone up as soon as possible and if he is not caught by the time we are back we will obviously be up as well. Thanks again everyone for all your help. - 2014-08-19 18:14 Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
- When is Fitzi back from Ireland because Nico is going to need somewhere secure when he gets caught. Perhaps the neighbours could just call his name when they put the food down, he obviously is quite happy to go into their gardens. Never been involved in a dog capture but have followed a few on Doglost. What height is he, labrador, he looks a fairly long dog, trap size is important.

- As a volunteer looking after Nico in Spain & having had not only daily contact but photographed him I can tell you he matches everything I know in both colouring , shape & size. He's a smart but lovable boy & that collar with circular (unmarked) disc matches what I put on him the day he left for the UK. You already know he is an escape specialist! so he will need secure holding if/ when captured. Good luck all - we are all rooting for success!

- I'm happy to transport a dog trap if needed. It will need watching, but I regret I can't stay as my dog has just had an op.
I'm not far away. Kimmybear has my email address and Jo might have it from a long time ago.Last edited: 2014-08-19 13:23:26 by CopperM - 2014-08-19 10:04 Wuzzy
- Fitzi, the stray dog has a round disc on a red collar and a light brown patch over his left eye. Does this match with Nico? I am having email correspondence with Jo at Doglost and am very hopeful that with her experience she will point us in the right direction re catching him. I have also heard from the local dog warden with helpful advice. She said that if and when we catch him we have to notify the dog warden by law. Is this correct? Usually if I find a dog with a disc I just phone the owner. If it is Nico then he will probably be a lot fatter than when you saw him as two of my neighbours have been putting food down for him. He has been here since 3rd August

- Hi all, That looks exactly like Nico, how he has made it that far I will never know, but as you say it probably wasn't by himself.
Really appreciate you posting him on here Wuzzy, It is good to know he is safe and well,
But the only thing to figure out now is how to catch him, does anybody know if the local dog warden or local RSPCA office be able to assist in catching him - 2014-08-18 21:30 Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
- Thanks for posting Nico on here Wuzzy, you and your friends have done well to keeep him in the area so he must feel safe. What you don't want is lots of people with good intentions scaring him off. Dog lost co-ordinators will help and advise. I don't believe he got there without help.

- Owner of ID 72381 has been in contact and is pretty sure it is her dog. Is there anyone in the Maldon area who has the equipment and experience to catch the dog as there is no way you can get close to it and the owner is presently in IrelandLast edited: 2014-08-18 20:01:47 by Wuzzy

- My initial thought too, a Romanian rescue...
I have emailed the poster to friends in Althorne and Burnham...
Are there any other local vet practices that could be alerted? e.g. Crouch Vale Vets?
Good Luck! - 2014-08-18 16:22 lesleyjane
- Looks like a Romanian rescue to me....they tend to have "that look"....hope for a happy ending.
