- Message from Ron is that he wishes he could thank everyone who helped. He is going to donate to DogLost as a way of thanking everyone for their support and he will be volunteering to look for other lost dogs in the future. You can register your dogs for free and upload photos, just in case the worst should happen and your dog takes himself off one day

- I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!! And totally true comments below. No wonder poor Sam couldn't get home! But who knows, maybe it somehow saved him from something else until his Dad could find him again. It just goes to show that there are still people out there who take a dog on without finding out first if it already has an owner! At least he was safe and had a bit of a holiday, I suppose? Well done and thank you to everyone who helped get Ron through this nightmare. Shelagh, I cannot praise you enough. I know there were others helping behind the scenes too. Ron, you never gave up and did everything we advised. Your sheer will to find Sam made it happen. What a fantastic owner. We can all sleep more soundly tonight. Poor Ron and Shelagh can rest their little feet. And sweet Sam is now back where he belongs with his loving family. I am over the moon for you. Kisses to Sam XXX
Ron, on behalf of everyone who cared and did their best to support you on this site, DogLost is VERY grateful for your kind and generous donation. We will always be a free service with amazing volunteers with big hearts, but it is donations like yours that help the DogLost website to keep running and to purchase equipment like scanners and traps. Thank you most sincerely from all the other dogs you will help save, thanks to Sam. God bless! x - 2014-09-10 20:37 Sherlock- Area Co-ordinator & Police Liaison - Avon & South Gloucestersh

- Owners has been to golf course this morning and spoken to groundsman. I have searched all forest and roads opposite golf course including the high ams park and high ams park lake. Had a quick look Friday hill from chingdale road to normanton park road. Interestingly,if you go through forest at end chingdale road,it will take you all the way through to long ton and from there a stones throw to Epping/high beech. Also chingdale road is 5 minutes from golf course,so its possible it could be Sam.Owner is still out looking other side of woodford. Thanks for posting for me laura

- I've put "Sam seen in this area" so that the sightings of the GSDs will make people realise that it could be Sam, as sometimes people think "oh its too far away" etc when we know it is not. And, whatever GSD gets found, its one less missing. Either of these sightings COULD be Sam. It does fit. x

Also lovely Shirley from greater Anglia contacted station for me, they do not have staff there on Saturday,so don't know anything. It was here who gave me francos. Thanks Ronmaxtye for bishops stortford

- Harlow and Sawbridgeworth are CM postcodes, don't know if that means it's Chelmsford dog Warden.
- 2014-09-09 23:57 Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
- Using Roydon as the centre of a clock Sawbridgeworth 8mins past (5 miles away) Harlow 15 mins past (4 miles away) Nazeing 30mins past (5.5 miles away) Hoddesdon 38mins past (3.5 miles away) Stanstead Abbotts (5.5 miles away). If it was Sam he could be following the river and so far seems to have moved in a northerly direction. Ronmaxtye google "map of Roydon" and have a look and play. May be worth a drive to Roydon and have an ask yourself at the station, really need to find out if dog was a GSD. night night all.EDIT:-Sorry just remembered your car is in for repair, couldn't have come at a worse time. perhaps somebody local would be prepared to go and ask. - OK sorry was dealing with another dog.Francos did not see dog.Broxbourne/Epping/east hearts/Maldon/Harlow wardens all notified.Me and my girl hi good to have you on board. I called Harlow police, they no nothing. Will contact Ada Cole now if they accept email,if not I do in morning? Although we have no definite description of dog there is a good chance it is Sam,as most of the route between high beech and Roydonis forestland he could have stayed in there and even if people saw him could think owner close by.

- Harlow DW will scan if found. I can get posters up in Roydon, Ron & Shelagh. But it won't be till later, so if anyone can get there first, it would be a big help. We need posters at Roydon station urgently and along the road to be seen whilst traffic forms at gates. I will ask for alerts to helpers in Harlow and Roydon. Can someon etell me if Sam is on the Harlow FB sites? Me n my girl? And Ron, if Sam was at Roydon, he wouldn't be the first one from Epping to get there. It is a possibility. I'll do what I can at that location, don't worry. Can someone call Ada Cole rescue stables and notify them please. They are on internet. Thank you. We will also alert the Broxbourne DW and the holding kennels as they too are on this Roydon/Harlow edge. RON, you are doing fantastic! You will get Sam home! And, we have all let out dogs off the lead - its what we do! Dogs need it and we all have to take a chance. These things happen, thats why DogLost is here! Come on Sam, sweetheart. Your Daddy is trying so hard to find you. xxx

- postcode distance finder says it's 8 miles between CM19 and IG10, not a long distance if it's correct. The River Stort is right next to Roydon railway stn. and I can see House? boats along it so perhaps some of those people tried to catch the dog because apart from Francos restaurant there were no other shops that I could see, all very rural. Wonder if police were called.May be worth posting on "harlow pets lost and found" fb site, I have looked on there but didn't see anything relating to a male GSD only the injured female(not Sam).

- SHELAGH Roydon postcode is CM19 it comes under Epping Forest district and looks like local authority is Harlow. Is Harlow dog warden aware. I'll have another hunt around on this machine YvonneXX EDIT:-found 2 nos. for Harlow dog warden 01279 446666 and 446111, Mutts in distress was also mentioned on page I found. Francos is the name of restaurant but I couldn't see any other shops on google earth, there were a few houses and sign saying River Stort. - Despite numerous calls am unable to get description of dog on level crossing. Only sensible course of action is for somebody to go there and ask around and put up a few missing posters. - On the roads around the forest are there any businesses/houses that may have cctv that could be asked kindly if they would check for the date Sam went missing. I also wonder about making a large banner to put at the side of the road stating Sam is missing - have you seen him ? Not sure if this is ok with highways but I have seen some people have done this with good results. Also notify taxi companies and pizza delivery companies to keep an eye out - I will have a look on facebook and message any I find. I am sure you have probably covered this route but just jotting down thoughts in case. Really hope there is some news soon. J. x

- Have tried street services but with not much luck, have had more luck talking to the dustmen etc i see when touring around looking for Sam, i go to where he went missing 3/4 times a day, i also take tye there to walk about so his scent is always fresh there for Sam to sniff!! i do not know where caves are in forest think that is wrong

- Just thought when lost he may have wandered into familiar territory. Have you tried sitting in car park with car engine running. They do know the sound of "their" car.All vets are notified in a huge area (in case chip fails).I know you've done a great job with posters, wardens, walkers, high beech clubs notified. Has anybody contacted street services? I can contact them tomorrow also contact network rail as long ton station only 30 minutes walk away.Last edited: 2014-09-08 22:18:49 by Shelagh

- Thoughts. were there any other dogs around, although he was neutered, when was this because it can take up to 6 months for a neutered dog to lose interest in a bitch in season. Sadly it seems OK now for people to take a bitch out when she is in season. I googled Golf clubs in IG10 area, I don't know the area but golf clubs usually mean food as well as golf. There were about 5 on the map. I don't know if you've contacted dog wardens outside the immediate area. Epping, Chelmsford and Havering are 3 I can think of. As a child I thought there were caves in the forest where highway men were supposed to have hidden but that may just be a childs imagination. Although Sam was a stray do you know where he was found. If he was in kennels for a while he may be hanging around local boarding kennels. Have to admit it is all very strange especially as he was so settled with you and Tye. Come on Sam enough is enough time to go home.
- 2014-09-08 21:42 Unknown
- Many thanks, there are road along side the forest, no local tracker dogs but its been a week now so it would not help i expect? Sam loved being in a car so he would be quite easy to get him in one, he also loved his treats so it would not take much to get him in a car
- 2014-09-08 20:59 Julie - Area Co-ordinator - Surrey & South London
- This is so sad and seems so very odd reading through your posts - is there anyone local with a tracking dog just in case a scent of Sam could be picked up to see which way he was travelling - are there any roads close to the woods where he was last seen in case someone took him and bundled him into a vehicle - I will keep sharing on facebook pages. Really hope Sam is soon found. Julie x
- 2014-09-08 20:16 Unknown
- We had no info on him at all, Lyn picked him up as a stray so there was no history, i would have thought if he was going to try getting back home it would have been first time he was off the lead not 2 months later? he seemed very happy here with my other dog and settled well, the thing i miss most is at night, as soon as i said "bed" he was like a bullet out of a gun, straight into the bedroom and up on my bed waiting for me to get in, then he would settle down for the night.
- 2014-09-08 20:07 Shelagh
- I'm sure nobody is questioning your judgment about your dog being off lead,or any aspect of you taking Sam on.Its wonderful that you decided on a rescue dog. I'm just thinking could he be trying to make his way back to previous owners? Of course I have no idea where he came from, just throwing ideas around. Also, you will know his background is there a chance previous owners have "reclaimed" him.( no answer wanted that for you to think if a possibility).
- 2014-09-08 19:27 Unknown
- I feel i should clarify my last post? i have had GSD for over 40 years, Max & Tye i have had since pups, Max was 11 in Feb and Tye was 11 last month. Max had to be put to sleep 6 months ago when his back legs finally went after 2 years on medication but Tye has never been a "single" dog i thought long and hard but instead of getting another pup i decided to give a chance to a dog that needed it, i ended up with Sam just over 3 months ago, he was good on recall but i took another month in an enclosed garden before i felt he was ready to go out not on lead, for 2 months he was fine running in and out of the trees then the last time after recall 4 times without problem the 5th time he did not come back, there the mystery has stuck with no sightings or anything, but i did not let him off the lead lightly

- Yes Sam would chase deer or fox etc, forest keepers say there are travelers about but i have not seen any? most of the things around the forest seem to be done by the City of London who own the forest not the council, The thing i cannot understand is that i walked where he went missing straight away calling him for an hour, at 07.30 its very quiet and my voice would carry, i used to be a CSM in the army, but there was nothing? no barking or other noise? nothing at all, he is not an old dog and was fit so what would happen thats so bad he would not bark or make some noise

- You are all doing so fantastically out there! Bless you! Ron, have you checked with the Highways and also the local council cleansing dept for the roads, because if they see any dogs, they do NOT scan. They do not call owners at all so you have to keep on at them until you are certain none of the "road" workers have seen him. We just need to tick off all the boxes to rule everything out bit by bit. I am also wondering about deer. Ron, would Sam chase a deer? Finally, do we know of any "undesirables" close to High Beach? We need to think of everything. Pubs are often a good place for gossip and dogs. I am SO pleased you are all helping Ron - he so deserves to find his fur baby. Thank you! x

- Just in case he had been injured and was lying low I have walked the edge of the Forest, on the High Beech side, between the CAR PARK that the owner usually parks in, ie Epping New Road about half a mile north of The Robin Hood Pub all the way down to the PUB itself. Walked back to the car park between the road and the footpath, looked in all the drainage tunnels that run beneath Epping New Road and those that run underneath the path in the Forest. I aim to do a similar walk between the Pub and the first car park, south of the pub again on the high beech side on Monday morning.

- I have already put posters up around the tea huts in High Beech just in case, the David lloyd gym is near the M11 in between Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell, i will go that way with posters tomorrow, in addition it is going towards Hainault so will poster Hainault Forest car park tomorrow as well, in addition to walking the forest everyday i also drive the area at least once a day to cover a larger area just in case

Because of distance he could cover two people are not really enough.Other posters are out far end Mott road. We have just returned from drive through of all areas surrounding r/hood round about,no sightings. Told all we saw on foot about Sam and gave contact number. Hope for some sightings soon

- Have text owner he is searching immediate and surrounding forest from missing site up to four times a day. It seems likely he is not in there. If he is further on ,it is all forestland, maybe we should do more posters . I haven't exhausted all vets in Harlow yet,so they need to be done tomorrow.. Also checked with him about railway but seems none close by

- Sadly lead was not Sam. But please keep helping to find Sam. His owner has been amazing helping other dogs today and his poor baby is still not home. What can he do? I think we need a search of the area but I am at a show tomorrow for DogLost, so if anyone else can help in a serach, please do so. Owner would need to advise exactly where Sam disappeared from. (Shelagh - you are a fab helper - thank you!). x

- Thanks, all good to read. Sam's owner, I am emailing you some more stuff to think/do. Okay folks, what's at High Beach? What's the rest of the area? Pubs, restaurants, properties, lanes, fields, woods, roads, horse riders, cows, other dog walkers, ice cream van, burger van, ponds? If Sam is on loose he will need a water source and a food source - picnic site, rubbish bins, cafes etc All he above need notifying too. Remember Sam could walk a long way round in a triangle shape, so he could be few a miles out in any direction. Poster outwards up to say, 5 miles (or more if you can). Call Chingford kennels if not already done so. I am wondering why Sam did not get back to owner on his walk? So, we need searchers in case he's lying low as injured and waiting o heal until he resurfaces. Or, was someone the other side of the woods? If someone has caught Sam, we need to make him too hot to handle! It really is possible to find Sam, do not give up hope. Sometimes it takes weeks, but it really can be done! Let's get this fur baby home. Quickly. x

- Someone knows the riding stables, can't remember who the helper is. Please can we try and get word out to the stables as well. Also, there used to be a hit dog or ice cream van around. If anyone knows where, please let him know. He has seen lost dogs in the past. Thanks. x

- Thank you, Alison & Riverlady. I can't help thinking it's strange that two GSDs went missing at the same time in the same post code. Owner said Sam usually runs in and out of woods as they walk along, The fourth time, he didn't come back out. We really need people to help search in case Sam is still there somewhere, also if anyone knows of any strange people in the area, or any properties there that Sam may have gone with/in, please let us know. Misty the othe GSD with a different owner, is now home. So we need to find Sam.
