- The RSPCA is appealing for the owner of a dog impaled on a garden fence in Leeds to get in touch. It’s thought the dog, which was straying, tried to jump the obstacle and got stuck on spikes which went through his front paws.
He was discovered by the owner of the property on Foundry Mill Drive, Seacroft on Tuesday lunchtime (21 October 2014), hanging from the fence covered in blood.Digit hanging from fence © RSPCA
RSPCA inspector Carol Neale said: “The owner looked out of her window and saw him hanging there. Naturally she was shocked and called the fire brigade, who called us.
“Me and my colleague Dave Holgate got him down from the fence and took him straight to Beechwood Vets in Crossgates, who were brilliant.
“His paws have been stitched up and he’s on antibiotics and pain relief to help him get through the next few days. Of course his legs and chest are badly bruised from banging against the railings too, he must have been in an awful lot of pain.
“He spent Tuesday night at the vets but has since been taken to RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield and District branch who are giving him all the TLC he needs.”
The dog, named ‘Digit’ by the RSPCA officers, is described as a small un-neutered male crossbreed. He’s tan and white and was in good bodily condition otherwise. Unfortunately he wasn’t wearing a collar and ID tag, and wasn’t microchipped, so at the moment there is no way to trace his owner.
RSPCA inspector Neale said: “We’re hoping there is someone out there badly missing Digit, desperate to get him home.
“He’s a wonderful natured dog, and all of us who have been involved with him so far have fallen in love with him.
“If his owner doesn’t come forward then RSPCA Leeds and Wakefield will be looking for a great new home for him.”
His owner should call 0300 1234 999 and ask to leave a message for inspector Neale. - 2014-10-24 21:52 Happiness yorkie lover xxx
