  • Other Info Today I lost my best friend at Cam Spout Crag, below Scafell Pike. Jasper seemed to vanish. After walking 10mins or so i realised he was no longer with me on retracing my footsteps back to Cam Spout Crag he was nowhere to be seen. Unfortunately given the inaccesibility of the area I had to leave before dark set in and we were both lost. I'm returning there tomorrow with some old clothing food, bbq and a friend to help with the serch. I will post an update tomoroow PM. I will be commencing the search fr

BBC North West Tonight

Remember Adam Nolan and his dog Jasper? He was rescued from Scafell after a social media campaign. His grateful owner set up a fund-raising page for the mountain rescue team which saved Jasper. Now Adam's handed over a cheque (inc gift aid) for £63k.

CROSSPOSTED:

Adam Nolan

I want to share with you, the most cherished photo I'm likely to ever own...

This is Me, Jasper and one very special individual indeed, which I'd like to thank from the bottom of my heart! It's Geoff Horky.

With a wealth of mountain expertise and an extensive knowledge of the area Geoff made the brave decision to ascend Scafell Pike last night with the intent to bring Jasper home safe and sound, which he was successful in doing so.

Geoff located Jasper close to Broad Stand Col at around 1.45am. Jasper was unfortunately unable to move at the time and given the conditions underfoot and wind-speed, Geoff made the wise decision to alert Wasdale Mountain Rescue to assist in the safe return of Jasper from the mountain.

To me he is a remarkable individual who undertook an amazing selfless act, because in his words "I knew what you must have been going through and just wanted to help as much as I can". What a guy!!

We should all be grateful for the voluntary efforts of Geoff and the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team today, as the made my/our dream a reality!
‪#‎FindJasper‬

Let's not forget too that this all would not have been possible in the first instance without the report from Antony Knobbs of the initial sighting of Jasper back on Scafell Pike.

Jasper the dog found after social media campaign goes viral

A dog which went missing on a mountain, sparking a social media campaign by more than 6,000 people to find him, has been rescued.

Border Collie Jasper vanished when he was out for a walk up Scafell Pike in the Lake District with his owner Adam Nolan.

A mountain rescue team, helicopter, police and dog lovers from around the country were involved in the search and he was found on Thursday.

Mr Nolan said he was "over the moon".

Jasper was last seen at about 14:00 GMT on Sunday at Cam Spout Crag below Scafell Pike.

The day out was "nothing out of the blue" and Jasper was used to walking and running on the fells, his owner said.

Distraught by his disappearance, Mr Nolan, from Cleator Moor, took to social media for help to find his four-legged friend, with the #FindJasper campaign going viral.

'Heroic efforts'

On Wednesday, after a possible sighting in Seascale, Mr Nolan vowed he would not stop searching until Jasper was "home and in front of the fire".

The local community got behind the search for Jasper and Wasdale Mountain Rescue found him in the early hours of Thursday.

Mr Nolan said on Facebook: "I'm over the moon to announce the safe return of my best friend Jasper.

"This morning Geoff Horky [from the rescue team] ascended Scafell Pike in response to the information received yesterday regarding the sighting of Jasper Near the Scafell Pike summit.

"Geoff found Jasper at 2.00am in very good condition. The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were then alerted and began the rescue operation. Upon hearing the news I followed the Wasdale Mountain Rescue team to Lingmell Col were I was united with Jasper.

"Naturally there are numerous individual who I would like to thank, but at the moment I would say a huge thank you to Geoff and the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team for their heroic efforts this morning."

Jasper was rescued in the early hours and was in "very good condition", the rescue team said.

A spokesman for Wasdale Mountain Rescue said: "The team are pleased to announce that we have been involved in the successful rescue of Jasper.

"The team responded and recovered Jasper back to the valley to meet Adam."
Mr Nolan has set up a JustGiving page to raise money for the rescue team.

Heartbreaking last photo of missing dog shared by thousands as #FindJasper goes viral

THIS heartbreaking last photo of lost dog Jasper, who went missing in the Lake District on Sunday, has been shared thousands of times after dedicated owner Adam Nolan's online appeal went viral.

By: Aaron Brown Published: Wed, November 5, 2014
The last photo of Adam Nolan and his beloved dog Jasper, before the latter disappeared on Sunday
The poignant image has been shared across social media more than 250,000 times as thousands of concerned Cumbrians and online dog-lovers helped to spread the word.

There have been two possible sightings this morning and one of a very tired border collie crossing the road
Three days after Adam's heartfelt plea, missing Jasper has yet to be found despite multiple unconfirmed sightings.

Social media sites have buzzed with updates of the ongoing search, fuelled by the #FindJasper hashtag on Twitter and Facebook.

Distraught owner Adam last saw his beloved border collie around 2pm on Sunday at Cam Spout Crag, beneath nearby Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England.

Now the owner is worried for his lost dog – who is "absolutely terrified of loud noises" – as Bonfire Night quickly approaches.

One of the many photos posted by distraught owner Adam Nolan since Jasper has been missing FACEBOOK/ADAM NOLAN

Map showing all unconfirmed Jasper sightings – which many think lead toward Adam's Whitehaven home

Adam, from Whitehaven, Cumbria, kickstarted the campaign to find his lost dog on Sunday evening by sharing the last photo of the pair together on Facebook.

Beneath the snap, he wrote: "This is the last photo of us together. I've just got off the fell now before dark hit.

"Anyone who knows the area will know he's in the most inaccessible area of the lakes and could end up in a number of valleys!

"If you see him please could you let me know."

Since then hundreds have shared amateur maps – plotting the unconfirmed sightings of the dog across the Lake District – as well as pictures of the concerned owner and his dog.

The official Facebook group campaigning for the search for Jasper – who is five-years-old and has been microchipped – has more than 3,500 members.

CROSS POSTED UPDATE FROM FIND JASPER GROUP:

Adam Nolan
2 hrs

Hello Everyone,

Todays update:

This morning seen the area of Seascale search extensively following a reported sighting of a BC crossing the road at the junction of the A595 and B5433. We made the lay by here our search base and searched an approximate 4 mile radius from the reported sighting in 6 segments by a dedicated party, the search was unsuccessful.

Sighting were reported of a BC on the Seascale beach and Golf course, searches of these areas were conducted in reaction and also proved to be unsuccessful.
The afternoon saw the parties return to the areas of Wasdale Head, Ennerdale, Ponsonby, Seascale whilst myself, Paul Lancaster and a canine tracker returned to Eskdale searching areas I believed Jasper would be familiar with. Again he was no where to be seen.

This evening I searched Thornhill, Egremont after a report of a BC on the road at the Park Head Inn was reported, no BC seen by myself, but others confirmed that this dog was wearing a red collar, whereas Jasper wears a BLUE COLLAR.
Tomorrows plan of action:

I believe the area of the West of the county has been extensively searched and there is now enough awareness of Jasper here that if he is in the area he will be seen soon enough. He could also be sheltering in ouhouses etc from the noise of the Bonfire night celebrations.

Therefore tomorrow weather permitting we will act upon the information regarding Scafell and Rosthwaite. A search party will be assemble at 9.30 at the MOOT HALL, KESWICK, which you are more than welcome to join.

PLEASE NOTE, given the inclement weather forecast for higher ground the search will be split into two groups. Higher ground to be explored by those experienced, whilst those with limited experience will be advised to search lower ground.

Many thanks for all your support again and for those who can make it I Iook forward to seeing you tommorrow! Fingers crossed again!

All the best, Adam

There are 2 references for jasper, thus us what was posted on the other one

not long posted by a climber : Hi guys. Bear with me....
I saw about a dozen working border collies In packs of 3 or 4 today as I climbed Scafell along the Corridor Climb. When I decended from the summit of Scafell at about 1300 i headed north east down the gully then up the boulder field in the direction of Great head.
Close to the top of the boulder field I saw a lone black and white collie lying down under a cliff face in the sun. I didn't think anything of it at the time as I had seen a few collies out and about. After seeing this group I thought I should share this info. It was my first time up Scafell so I'm not sure about the practicalities of a dog getting round from where Jasper was last seen to where I saw the lone collie. Admins please feel free to PM me if you think this may be relevant.
Hope he gets home safe.

CROSS POSTED UPDATE from Adam:

Hello Everybody!

Firstly many apologies for the late update, understandably everyone will be awaiting news with baited breath.
Today began in Ambleside to follow the sighting from yesterday in Low gale, which proved to be unsuccessful. Then at 10am a search team of three groups moved from Ambleside to surrounding areas of where Jasper was last seen again, but this time approached from different locations.
My friend Ant Emmet searched the higher ground above the bowl of Great Moss via Esk Hause approaching from Rosset Gill and returning via Bowfell and The Band.
Another friend Chris Sumner, travelled from Fleetwood today and commenced a large search from Brotherikeld scouring the Great Moss area whilst also ascending and descending the two gulley routes up to Scafell which lead to Chambers Crag and Broad Stand - a heroic effort!!!!
Sarah Autie also made another huge effort today in I covering the route from Wasdale Head up to Sty Head and up the lower corridor route up to Lingmell col and back down Lingmell face.
I began my search in Wasdale heading for Scafell summit, I too descended and ascended the Gully from Broad Crag to Great Moss before walking the ridge line to Scafell Pike summit and then onto a deep search of Piers Gill, returning to Wasdale Head. All these searches were to no avail and Jasper was not found.
Amazingly whilst on Scafell summit I had a lump in my throat when I heard the sound of a helicopter, the guys who said they could coduct an aerial search of the area were able to do so!!
An aerial search of the whole of Great Moss, Scafell, Miterdale and Burnmoor was undertaken before heading to Wasdale Head and retracing my exact route from Sunday. This aerial search took over 1hr 30mins and was undertaken often at low level to optimise visibility and 'drive' any animal (hopefully Jasper) to move and become visible. Again this search was to no avail and Jasper was not found.
Given that the aerial search was conducted to quickly over such as vast area to no successful conclusion, I think we can now rule out the fact that Jasper is in the Great Moss area and given the state he is likely to be in, will be unlikely to return. Also conditions today on higher ground were so cold (Scafell Pike summit frozen) I think it's unlikely he will return to and cross higher ground into another valley.
Therefore I'd like to concentrate on lower ground where he is likely to be seeking shelter and food. There have been sightings of a BC in Rosthwaite (Borrowdale) and again in Eskdale (at 6.00pm Sunday). I think this could be significant.
Tomorrow I will be leaving home at 7.30am to commence a search of the lower levels of the Eskdale Valley at approx 8.15am from the Woolpack Inn with a good friend Paul Lancaster. We will be joined at 10.00am by a professional Animal tracker who has experience of searching for lost dogs, he will be accompanied by his own snifferdogs.
One individual will also be starting a low level search leaving Rosthwaite tomorrow morning. Time permitting we may also move to Rosthwaite later in the day if the Eskdale search proves to be unsuccessful again.
If anyone would like to join the search at Eskdale tomorrow please could you contact the ‪#‎FindJasper‬ group and I'll look forward to meeting you tomorrow.
Again, I'm overwhelmed by the support and kind words and only wish I had a different outcome from today to report back, it's certainly not for the want of trying.

Not sure if you are going into any residential areas in the Lakes i.e. villages etc. please ask people to check their back gardens, people don't tend to go into their gardens when the weather gets cooler. My friends dog Puzzle was reported missing with DogLost.co.uk and their dog was found safe and well under a bush in someone's back garden.
Amanda
Hi, yes jasper is microchipped and yes the local MRT has been informed along with Sarda - people are currently working down lists of farms and B&B's in the area to let them know of the missing dog and Adam was searching in Low Gale area of Ambleside today thanks to the tip off on here! There is another listing for Jasper, ID 77519. Do you think one listing should be closed and all comments contained within one listing as I am worried an important message will be missed. I really hope lovely Jasper is found soon x

Can anyone reading this at all call the numbers above for adam with this poss good sighting as per notes below...I am in a holiday rental on Dartmoor with WiFi but zero mobile phone signal else I'd call him right now.. Just anyone do it...tell him the dog was poss at Low Gale Ambleside 5pm. The dog apparently knows Ambleside well and may well have found his way there. Whoever reads this page next just call the numbers above! (There needs to be a way for urgent help like this on this site to get to the owners by phone ext rather than relying on them to come back to the site to check for emailed news..or folk with a good lead like that just to use the phone number here given at same time as posting the info...critical time may have been lost by not calling Adam). Please just pick the phone up...someone..
