Love the reunited pic. No more escapology now Shep okay? Stay close now:-)xxx

Thanks Clarkey, i can't see the reunited picture, but as long as Shep is happy & safe, that's all that matters.

Take care all x

Well done Shanesnicky for finding Shep!
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
shelleyd: so sorry to hear that. I'm sure you did all you could have done & altho a sad ending at least they have some sort of closure.

On a happier note I met the lovely Shep today and he's exactly as described! Such a friendly dog and so happy to be with his mum and best friend the pug!
Shep's owners family have said they will help with giving Shep a little training and help with walking him too, as did ShanesNicky who found him, so hopefully he will not go missing again. I have added a reunited photo .. you will probably need to refresh the page a couple of times to see it.
shelleyD
So pleased Shep is home safe & sound. Sadly I got news on Friday night that a gorgeous little girl I had helped search for near my home town was found deceased, absolutely devastating!

I understand that Shep has escaped a few times recently, is there anything that can be done to help this lady secure her garden? I would offer to help her myself but I am going back home for six weeks from tomorrow.

DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
So pleased that Shep is back home safely.....glad he's been looked after well.....probably explains the lack of sightings!! Huge well done to the Battle team for all their hard work. Am glad that Sheps owner is getting help walking him now as well. X

Can't thank you enough ShanesNicky .. gather you have offered to help walk the lad too. I know Linda really wants to keep him but finds it hard to get out in the winter. I'm sure Shep will appreciate it!
ShanesNicky
I'm so chuffed I found him and had the pleasure of reuniting Shep to his Mum. Linda is such a lovely lady and I'm so glad there's a happy ending x

Shep is HOME| Had long chat with Linda who has been messaging me on Fbk .. but I was not on there this afternoon.
Shep was found very close to home in Powdermill Lane shortly after I posted my comments this morning. He was very clean, had been brushed and not at all hungry. Seems as though someone has had him all this time and however well meaning had not reported finding him, but at least he was well cared for. Particular thanks to the lady from Wylands who saw Shep in the lane, stopped to pick him up and took him straight back to Linda.
Such a long week for Linda who has been unwell yesterday due to all the worry. She has asked me to explain that she really was not able to 'master' this page and logging in etc but that she is immensely thankful to all who helped in the search for Shep.
Well done everybody!! Going to put this page into the blue now!
pixies peeps
There is a post on hastings doglovers group with a screenshot saying Shep is home. Can someone check this out please https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204131071369796&set=p.10204131071369796&type=1&theater

Thanks everyone. I had asked animalwardens about the listing for Shep and they assured me he was on there .. no wonder I couldn't find him. I emailed them to ask them to correct to GSD and the listing has now been corrected ref 352228. I knew he had been missing recently but had been reunited almost immediately (found and taken to newsagent in Battle) but that makes it even more strange that he's not home yet as he is microchipped. Linda has taken posters into shops in Battle. Please bear in mind that she's disabled and is doing the best she can.

springermad .. my feeling is that the dog in Rye is not Shep as he is known to be good with all livestock .. our DW confirms this. No history whatsoever of worrying sheep let alone attacking them.

Like others, my feeling is that someone has him so I agree that posters are going to be the way to find this lad.

corinne: yes, someone could have found him and fallen for him, but the fact remains that if they have kept him and not reported it they are breaking the law. It is ILLEGAL to keep any found dog and not report it to the Police or Dog Wardens. If this is the case and the finder is reading this page then I'm asking them to inform our Dog Wardens or Doglost as soon as possible please.

I have asked Linda several times to post on here, but as I have tried to explain before she's in her 70's, does not use a computer and has had difficulties doing so (this page was registered by someone else for her) I can only ask so many times and I know that the reception from her mobile is very poor.
All a bit frustrating but I can only thank you all for doing what you are. Postering is definitely the way to go.

I`m sure I won`t be the first to think this, but I feel that Shep has been taken by someone. As it has been said, a big friendly distinctive dog would have been seen somewhere if he was still around. Perhaps someone is aware that he has gone missing several times, and feels that they could maybe give him a more secure home, or maybe he approached someone who fell in love with him and decided to keep him. I have spent several hours in Battle Great woods with my dogs searching and calling for Shep, but I think the search needs to be widened. Police? Local papers or radio? I so hope he is safe and well.
ALI
It is somewhat frustrating that Shep is not listed as missing on the animal warden site now but clearly has been lost and found numerous times over the past year...this information would have been useful in planning our searches. I postered yesterday in Asten fields with the remaining few posters I had left - there were no posters evident in the area following tuesdays possible sighting. Really would like communication from the owners on this site as to where we take this next as all the volunteers have been working tirelessly to get Shep home
TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Just looked on Animal Warden site, Shep is on there for lost on 22nd Nov, but is listed as a crossbreed....! Last 2 lost enteries are 16th Nov & 6th Nov.... both times reunited the same day .... Maybe if we knew where he was found those times & the previous 4 times, it would give an idea of where he may be ...? This poor boy .....
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
I have checked animalwardens.co.uk tp ensure that Shep is on there and he is NOT listed for currently missing from 22nd November, BUT he has been listed as missing 6 times in the past year and found 3 times??!!
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Springermad, TK, Ali & Gina - you are all doing a fantastic job as always:-) I do find it really odd that there has not been one sighting of a quite a distinctive dog. Did the owners try Network Rail do we know?
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
I agree that the dog is highly unlikely to be Shep due to the harness but as we are unsure whether he has been taken or wandered (Large dog no whiff of a sighting since he went) we cannot totally rule this one out.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
just a quick msg before getting back to work.
Thanks springermad and TK.
I can confirm that Shep definitely did not have any harness or collar on so thankfully the dog in rye would not have been him.
Still not sure about the Asten Fields sighting .. person says not sure if Shep and I have not heard from her today. Thanks to TK for being out there this morning and Ali for postering. Still need a positive sighting so we have to erely on posters .. the more that we can get up the better the chance of a good sighting.
Thanks to all that are helping.
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Yes I agree, we really now need the owners to update this page on any progress they have made with postering and raising awareness etc in order that we are not missing out on areas which may need further postering/searching. i.e I know they were going to poster in Battle during the week, but we don't know where. If not already done then schools, railway stations, doctors, dentists etc. Anywhere where there will be lots of people traffic really.
TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Had a walk around Asten fields & surrounding area after school drop off ....
There are now posters up in prominant posistions around Asten fields, well done Ali....so hopefully if he is spotted someone will ring... Think owner is still posting on For sale fb page, be good if she can post on here too ..
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Do we know if the owners have checked with the railways as per Zoe's suggestion a few days ago? Would be most wise if they did this.
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
There is a report which is unlikely to be connected to Shep, but worth mentioning. In the Rye and Battle Observer this morning. We know shep was not wearing a collar when he went missing, but as we do not know what has happened to him since, i have copy and pasted the report below.

Police are seeking the owner of a dog that attacked sheep near Playden.

The German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois dog was spotted in fields in the Bowlers Town area, off the A268 Rye Road.

It was standing by the two badly injured sheep around 10.30am on Monday November 24, but ran off when approached by the landowner.

It was black and tan and wearing a black harness with a large silver disc attached to its collar.

One of the sheep died at the scene and the other had to be put down due to the severity of its injuries.

PC Jessica Crump said: “Nobody was seen with this dog, but we are very concerned that it may attack again and we are keen to trace the owner to ensure that this doesn’t happen.

“Was your dog missing between 8.15 and 10.30am on Monday? It may have returned covered with blood. Do you recognise the description of the dog?
TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Oh yes ... ! " family friend" had forgotten about that... he he
Saw one of your posters as I drove along to Claverham, as you say, very busy at school times, so hopefully someone will see it & may have some info ...
Will keep eyes peeled again when over there tomorrow

Had quick chat to Linda before lost reception. She has tried to register on here but is having problems .. like many of us she has difficulties with computers! Says there was a comment on Fbk saying a dog matching Shep's description seen walking beside (no lead on) elderly chap near Asten Fields, Battle.
I have had some more information re this sighting which I am following up. Just waiting for a couple of people to return my calls. Will keep you all updated as and when I find out more. Last edited: 2014-11-27 16:38:03 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Shep has been playing on my mind. Do we know if he is neutered? If not, it is always possible that he has got the scent of a bitch in season? I have friends that are related to the people who own the farm shop just down the road from the golf course so they are forwarding on a poster to them.Last edited: 2014-11-27 14:31:43 by Zoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex

dropped couple of posters off to Blackbrooks tonight......not a free mince pie/mulled wine in sight.....reckon SpringerMad had got there before me.....dove round the lanes sedlescombe and westfield but nothing to report sadly

I am so sorry but I never got to Battle today- our builders turned up and needed to be at home. Re sedlescombe gold club, I am sure you can get there from battle from battle great wood and then following the 1066 route so if it was Shep that was seen then technically he wouldn't have had to go via the road. I feel so helpless as I'd really like to be more hands on but I'm back to work tomorrow. I have everything crossed for Sheps safe return. X

Ooh ALI, you are all about food and holidays haha!
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
yes but some of us are just on the periphery, like me in tn31 only down the road and plenty of local people work in Battle or Hastings etc and would be passing through to work or school runs etc.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
When emails alerts were first sent out gino sent them to TN32-40 so the areas we are talking about should already have them.
Linda rang the golf course and spoke to them about the dog seen .. they had not heard about it but are now aware of Shep and have Linda's tel number.

Well done and thanks again Ali. Blackbrooks would be a great place to get posters to .. enjoy the mince pies!
There is also a village shop just up the road on the Green in Sedlescombe who are usually very helpful and I'm sure would take a poster. The garage and cafe might take one too. Last edited: 2014-11-26 11:41:14 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Had a spare hour so popped to Crowhurst this morning - have posted from Brakes Coppice (where Clarkey went up to the other day) and downwards into Crowhurst village, Spoke to a gentleman at the plough pub who was happy to take a couple of posters, accosted a group of hikers leaving the village for a walk over the fields and gave them a poster, also spoke to the local post lady and gave her a poster too (she had already heard about Shep). Would have put more up on road to Queensway but nowhere really to stop safely. Think the possible golf course sighting sounds promising and yes agree with TK re the route he may have taken so it would be helpful to poster that area as well......just a thought late night shopping tonight at Blackbrooks garden centre 5pm - 8pm so area should be busy with shoppers am hoping to call in so will drop poster off in exchange for a free mince pie!!

Large dark grey male greyhound picked up yesterday. (sorry to hijack Shep's page)
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
TK There is a found greyhound yesterday in hastings on animalwardens site. Maybe you could put message for people who have lost one on whatever facebook page it is
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
yes, that is why i think alerts need to go further afield It may not have been him, but the reason we checked this side of Battle yesterday in Great Woods is because we don't know which direction he went and could be anywhere. If it was him then we were extremely close as the Battle Great Woods area is right near that golf course. Will keep eye out for the greyhound too as I am out and about quite a bit today.
TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
If that was him spotted at Sedlescombe golf course, if he carries on In same direction he would be heading for Westfield, Brede way .....
Drivve down A21 past Gollf course & then up thro Watlington to Battle & home along Batttle high street & thro Telham tto St Leonards each morning on school run, Keeping eyes peeled,
Just to say I hve just seen there is a Greyhound miissing from The Ridge area of Hastings, by cemetry....Spottee on fb, advised to add him onto doglost, if helpers cn keep an eye out for him too ....Last edited: 2014-11-26 09:38:29 by TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex

Just wondering if the email alerts should be widened. I also only spotted Shep was missing by looking on here and am in TN31 and live only 8 miles from Battle. Others have said their postcodes were not included in the initial alert and are also close by. The more locals that are made aware the better.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks Ali.
Shep was not wearing a collar and tag when he went missing.
Linda has a very large property with a lot of fields and he was exercised there as opposed to taken out for walks.
Linda's family have been putting posters out in Hastings I think and her son will be putting some up tomorrow. I have asked Linda to let us know where .. she is going to Battle tomorrow and will put some up there.

shelleyd: Thanks, that's good advice and yes, Shep is able to get back into his home when he returns and his bedding has been left there. This was done when he first went missing as the family have had the Doglost advice which covers that.
I agree that if Shep was frightened by something he may well have holed up, especially as the weather was pretty wet over the first couple of days when he was lost.
I have assured Linda that if a definite sighting comes in then one of us will go to wherever it is as she herself does not drive.
COME ON SHEP, show yourself to someone please! We are all looking for you. Last edited: 2014-11-25 20:52:50 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

The post was made on the 'for sale site' that has a long thread on about the missing Shep.....it said "other half had spotted a dog at Sedlescombe golf club last night about 8 o'clock breed unknown as it was dark but a larger dog rather than a small one". I encouraged them to contact dog lost but they said that was all the information they had.....wonder if Linda or one of the family could try and ask for more info - was it in the golf course or alongside the A21 (if on the road what direction was it heading) - any extra snippet of information would be helpful - we have such a lot of people on here and Facebook who really want to see this lovely lad back home
DW Dogs
No luck today. Any further info re tags, collar, last place seen, are there areas he is familiar with and may head towards? If scared or hurt he may well hide out for a few days. Last edited: 2014-11-28 19:35:23 by DW Dogs

Thank you so much Ali, DW Dogs, Springermad, Zoe, shelleyd, TK and everyone else helping with Shep. You have all made massive efforts to help find Shep .. you really are stars!
Ali says there was a report of a large dog seen on Sedlescombe Golf Club last night .. it was mentioned on Facebook but have I no idea which page.

Shep went missing between 7.30/8a.m. Saturday morning .. Linda is not sure how as she has blocked all the holes in the fences etc so we really do not know which direction Shep has gone in.
If it was him at Sedlescombe Golf Club then he may have gone in the opposite direction to Crowhurst and crossed the main road and hopefully gone cross country to the Club. Obviously no guarantee it was Shep that was seen, but we do not have any other dogs on Doglost that have been reported missing (thankfully!)and again it is not that far from Telham Lane.
I did ring Linda and let her know about this sighting and she said that she would try to get one of her family to take a poster up there.

We really are up against it with Shep and need to try to get 'ahead' of any sightings. So once again I think we are going to have to cover a lot of places with posters. You are all doing a great job and my thanks to you all.

I know that Linda and the family are watching this page but it would be good to a comment from them on here to encourage all our lovely helpers!
Having said that, I do know that Linda is very grateful for the help that everyone is giving her.
Hoping that we will get that one positive sighting from someone seeing a poster that will give a proper indication as to exactly where Shep is.
shelleyD
Hi all, So sad for this boy to be lost, especially in this weather. Just an idea, but when my friend lost her dog she was advised that they very rarely go far from where they were lost & even if they are people friendly being away from their own human will make them scared & unlikely to go to people calling their name, so is likely to be hiding out. She was told to put one of the plastic pet crates, with the door removed, somewhere concealed but as close to where he went missing with some of the owners worn clothing inside & some water, no food or you will attract wildlife. I don't know if it is possible for someone to do this, but it worked for my friend & she had her baby home on day 2, so if you can, it is worth a try. Hope he is found soon, I will come help search at the weekend if he's not home by then x
ALI
Have been out today over the marshes with Dionne who had printed loads of posters - we went towards Crowhurst trying to cover the way Shep may have gone if he travelled from Telham Lane towards Bexleigh Avenue.....we put up posters where we could but the area is vast although there is plenty of water and food sources out there for him......Will try and get to Bexleigh Avenue at some point and check that area out too

Have spent almost 2 hours in battle great woods. No sign, but have left poster in the carpark. Zoe you are right about the railway. Not sure if this has been investigated further. So strange that nobody has seen him in 4 days.

I have just looked at the map at the area Shep went missing. I see the railway line runs very close by - has anyone contacted the railways? Its just a thought (and not a very nice one....sorry:-( )
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Sounds like you are all doing an amazing job:-) I am sorry i've not been able to help so far - i "may" be able to get over for a couple of hours tomorrow afternoon but hopefully he will be back by then. I am surprised if he is a friendly dog that he hasn't made his way to somewhere where there are people by now. Do we know if he had a tag on when he went missing? I have emailed all my contacts in the areas surrounding where he went missing including some friends (who have a dog) in Crowhurst. It might be worth dropping a poster in to Battle Dog Training School - Marianne runs classes out of the hall by the church - i think there is one on a Tuesday night if anyone can get down there.
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Been over to Battle, traffic horrendous with all the roadworks going on everywhere but had a good drive around. Back home to see about trying to get this printer working. Going to walk in Battle Great Woods so will poster there as Ali and Co are doing the other side of Battle. I reckon at least if we poster all dog walking areas we will get message out. Yes, It would be handy to know the circumstances of Sheps disappearance, especially as there have been no sightings at all since he went and he is quite a large dog. If any news of sightings or info could you let me know via text, anyone who has my number (TK, ALI, Clarkey)and we can divert to help.

didnt finish work til gone 11, but good to see all the activity on here. I have suggested to Linda she thinks about setting a facebook page up for Shep as a lot of the conversations happening on there are great but it is on a for sale forum and could get deleted at anytime. Thanks for the update Clarkey. I have a new laptop which needs one of my children to connect to the printer for me. Hope someone can do that for me this evening I have to go to Battle anyway tomorrow morning, so will at least be able to have a drive round the area (I don't know it so will look on maps tonight) Fingers crossed I will be able to get some posters up x

I went and met the lovely Linda this afternoon. Needless to say she has not been sleeping since Shep has gone missing. Shep will be able to get back in if he goes back to his home. I left some posters with her so that she can give them to her family to give out at the school etc when they get the chance. However, as they have very young children it will be hard for them to poster the area ..
Linda is elderly and disabled so will be unable to put posters up.

Going to NEED HELP postering PLEASE!

I have done some today when I was out there .. I drove from the Powdermill Lane end of Telham Lane and put posters into letter boxes, went to Ironbridge Stables and also spoke to householders as well as putting large laminated posters up Telham Lane as far as the small triangle junction. Then I turned right toweards Crowhurst and put a couple up along there too (only up to where Coppice Woods Fm ? is) .. not many as ran out of time..if you go that way you will see them.
I gave a poster to Lauren (I think that's right!) at Wheatcroft Farm who said she would text all her liveries who ride in the woods locally to keep a look out for Shep .. many thanks!

If anyone can help POSTER PLEASE it would be a great help.
They need to go up in Crowhurst (as Shep has been found there before) and along the rest of Telham Lane (from Crowhurst Holiday Park) all the way along and up Forewood Lane to Crowhurst pretty please! Also anywhere that you can get to in Powdermill Lane .. closed in part for road works.
Would be good to get some up in the shops in Battle too if poss.

If you POSTER please leave a message on here to say where so others can do a different area.

There was also a report of a dog barking and whining (sounding distressed) in the area between Bexleigh Avenue and Pebsham. I spoke to owner of Pebsham Equestrian Centre and she confirmed this .. the dog barked for several hours last night until about 7a.m. then stopped. It may not be Shep but it's quite feasible he could have got into this area as not far across the fields from Telham Lane. So it may be a good idea to get some posters up in that area .. I think it is the Filsham fields area (& Bulverhythe playing fields?)
if anyone walks there dogs there please keep a look out for Shep. He is said to be a friendly lad.
If anyone else wants to search, then anywhere along the route mentioned above where there are woods/footpaths would be worth looking at.
Thanks!

I'm working tomorrow afternoon and my printer is running out of ink but will try to do more when I can.

I am working later today but if my visits take me through the lanes we will keep an eye out. Am around Tuesday morning if still not reunited

Thanks Ali, TK, Sharon, DW Dogs and Springermad. I have spoken to someone who knows the family well and Shep is very friendly. He was lost from Telham Lane (very near to the junction with Powdermill Lane) Powdermill Lane is closed at the moment but the family say they have spoken to the workmen there but they have not seen him.
Keeping fingers crossed that Shep has been picked up and is safe and that he will be taken to a vets to be checked for a microchip this morning.

Hv just had chat with gamily member and I think it is Telham Lane that Shep went missing from so I have corrected to Powdermill Lane/Telham Lane area and also cropped and swopped photos so the clearest one will be one the poster. (You may have to refresh the page a couple of times to see it)

well done Linda for getting him on doglost - as discussed before someone may be looking after him until they can get him to the vets on monday for checking. Have received my email alert and shared on facebook - get all your friends etc to share the link on their facebook pages as where it is at the moment is on a for sale page and admin could (and have done in the past) delete the post as you are not actually selling anything.....fingers crossed he is found very soon x

Thanks gino. Have shared to my Clarkey page and put on Doglost East Sussex.
Dog wardens are aware already.

Linda: Exactly how and where did Shep go missing from?
Please make sure the local vets know Shep is missing .. hopefully someone will have picked him up and is waiting for them to open in the morning to have him checked for a microchip.
You can print posters from the 'view poster'page .. try to put them everywhere and anywhere you can in the local area so people know that he is missing.
