David, thank you so much for your message. That is so lovely. She's a lot bigger in that newspaper photo than I thought. What a lovely girl and well done to the farm for their perseverence and to you, David, you did marvelous. And, yes , I agree - you saved her life and gave her this family and happiness. She may well have been happy with you now too, now she has calmed down, but she obviously loves those horses! You did the right thing and you should be proud. x

What an amazing story and lovely photos of Zelda. You sound very caring, I do hope you find 'your' dog very soon x
Degrocott
Dear all, thank you all for your fantastic support with this horrendous but ultimately happy story. Just to say that as Claire has written previously Zelda has indeed adopted a new home. You can see photos by following this link http://www.clactonandfrintongazette.co.uk/news/12864336.Zellie_the_Romanian_rescue_dog_finally_settles_down_after_four_months_on_the_run/
She is in a good home now and although we really would have loved to have looked after her she clearly had other plans! Obviously we could just bring her back now but it seems wrong to take her from this home where she is settled. As you probably have read before we had Zelda as a Romanian rescue dog for two hours before she bolted and fled into the night. Nearly 1000 posters and hundreds of hours later I started to think that she had become fully feral and would never be 'safe' and yet she is now the most docile and house bound creature you could meet. This dog that lived outside on the run for the entire winter now refuses to go outside in the rain! Thank you for all your help and concern. We will indeed find our dog one day and do so knowing that Zelda is safe and well. Thanks again, David.

What a lovely happy ending. I am so pleased for Zelda, David, well done to you for not giving up, you have made a hard decision but I'm sure the right one. Good luck to you, Happy long life to Zelda xxxx
ClaireC
Well done David for putting the needs of your lovely Zelda first. Keep looking for that very special dog who will leave a a big paw print on your heart that you will want all four paws on your sofa one day. xx
Kit'sMum
Astonishing and very interesting. I am very much in agreement with Kimmybear's last comment, and if ever I had a dog I would want them to choose me if at all possible - but well done to David with his generous attitude - he got her out of probably a dangerous situation and then she did the rest - maybe she had previously lived on a farm. Although my heart aches for all those dogs abroad desperately needing a home I have always wondered what would happen if you adopted a dog that wasn't comfortable with you. I hope David and his family find the dog of their dreams.

Well done Dave ..and hoping a long healthy and good life for Zelda x

Oh wow! ClaireL, thank you for that update. I will just confirm with owner and yes, it may well be in all parties best interests. Sometimes strange things arew itnessd on DogLost and this may be one of them. I am convinced some dogs know in their hearts, who they are looking for and that in cases like Zelda's, she has now found them. David has done so well and he deserves praise for all of his work in this and doing what appears to be the right thing for Zelda and his family too. Maybe, they have another dog whose heart is waiting for them in another Rescue? So David, well done and maybe you can find your soulmate dog now, as Zelda has found her soulmate family. What a lovely ending done with kindness all round. Bless you all. x
Holly
Been following Zelda's story and hoping she would have a happy ending, she deserves it. Sorry for David and his family, but Im sure he just wants the best for Zelda. wishing her a long happy and settled life with her chosen people
Chris63
Oh what a happy ending for Zelda, hope she has a happy life. Sorry to hear David never got her back but he knows she is happy. X
claireL
Some good news at last ! - I am sure that David will update you all but just to say that I got a text from him yesterday to say that Zelda has adopted and been adopted by some lovely folk at the farm near pilcox hall lane :) - David sent me a photo yesterday so am trying to work out how to upload to my dinosaur computer, but the main thing is that she is home all be it a new one (if you remember she had only been at Davids for a couple of hours before she ran off last year)..... David and his young family have never given up hope of getting her back but I know they were concerned about Zelda not settling and running off again, it seems Zelda has solved the problem herself ... a happy ending all round :) :) X

This is a long shot but maybe worth a look just incase sorry if it is not Zelda the link does not state which sex it is x

A terrier has been spotted at the back of Lawford dale in owls flight den, and seems to have made friends with a monk jack , both seen going in the trees this morning
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
This is excellent news! Just excellent! This is a clever street dog I would think, so she has that great survival instinct. This is excatly what we need and I am sohappy to read this. Please do keep us updated. Thank you ClaireL. x
Chris63
Fantastic that she is still ok and has somewhere to shelter at night on these awful cold nights. Hopefully one day she will be reunited with David and his family. X
Holly
Thanks for the update, good to hear she is still out there, feeding and hopefully feeling less spooked!
claireL
Hi All - just to say David sent me an update over the weekend. Zelda is still ok ! she is being fed twice a day by a lady at Pilcox Lane - Zelda has befriended this lovely ladies horses and has access to barns, stables etc at night - She hadnt been spotted in lawford for almost two weeks - so I think we were all getting anxious but she seems to be staying in one area at the mo - and as the crow flies is not that far from where she went missing from - not wanting to tempt fate but i think she is beginning to relax a little and not wanting to take off every time she sees a human although she is still wary of humans but i think David is making progress. I will update when I have any fresh news - X
Holly
Is there any news on this little lady?

Any news????
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Sorry, only just seen new sighting. Bumping now.
Chris63
Wonder if she going where the bin collection days are as she certainly is one clever little dog. Glad she is still being sighted and so hope the feeding station works. X
Holly
Come on Zelda, I have everything crossed for you!!
claireL
Quick update - Thank you Chris63 - we have have been out and about looking again she was last seen in lawford on Thursday and then nothing until this morning when David sent me a photo of her back here at Pilcox lane - (taken by him from his car)! she is popping up at Pilcox and Lawford but nobody is seeing her in between these locations ?? anyway David has set up a new feeding station, (with lovely enticing smelly food :) where she was seen a few weeks ago on camera - so fingers crossed xxxxxx
Chris63
Well done to you claireL and Clm71 for tracking Zelda and good luck getting her home (hope she likes the liver cake!). Everything crossed for Zelda. X
claireL
Quick update - Zelda was sighted again in Lawford today at lunchtime, she was seen in the fields behind Milton Road !!! i met the local dog warden on Tuesday as i was checking out the location near to where she ran off from (5 miles away) as she had been seen there a couple of days beforehand, I spoke with the dog warden this afternoon and he has been informed of sighting today, he has asked for David to contact him tomorrow so that we can hopefully set and man the trap as discussed! Clm71 has been amazing and really got the word out there; she and I drove to the fields where Zelda was seen today but no luck; the new area she is in is flat farm fields so easy to spot a dog ????? or so we thought! we are hoping that she is seen again in the fields and that we can track (from a distance) to see where she is hiding up! Lets hope its not long before Zelda is home safe and sound - ps making some liver cake to entice her x
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Just reading other posts, David, I sent female owner e-mail with lots of advice and stuff to do, a few weeks ago. Have you read it? Please do so. You can't leave the trap unmanned (for various reasons given in the email) so this lady's house would be ideal if she keeps an eye on it from window. If a local cat gets caught (as they very often go in) it needs to be let out immediatley as they can (worst case scenrio) die of stress which you do not want. Nor must trap fail, or she will never go back again, nor in any trap again. You need to make sure it doesn't accidently shut and scare her off. I am assuming it is automatic? The food needs to be tied down at the rear so she can't grab and run. It needs to be very smelly to entice her in - chicken curry, sardines, garlic, tripe - all excellent. Please, keep us updated so we cabn help you each step of the way. Come on Zelda. x
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
That is exactly what we need! Fantastic lady in Milton. Can you get lady's tel no and pass to Admin for me, so we can explain exactly how to do the trap and we can get owner's trap if it is sufficient for Zelda. This is ideal! Fantastic news! x
clm71
Lady who reported sighting yesterday in Milton Road has just contacted me this evening a colleagues husband definitely saw Zelda on Sunday evening outside their house in Cavendish Road which is opposite Milton... So definitely here for bin day... Lady has also said she would be happy for a trap to be set at hers in Milton Road as it's a quite dead end road if required x
claireL
Wow ! lots of sightings in Lawford, I will hopefully be out and about today just surveying the lie of the land and where she has been spotted. Like David (Zelda's) owner has said I think it is really important that she is not approached or called maybe a good idea to get new posters out in the area where she has been seen to say please do not approach but if sighted please call ..... quite happy to do that will have a chat with David when he gets back from work tonight. Lets hope she is home soon X
AlisonH
Bumped due to today's sighting.
Sassy
Saw Zelda today about 12.15pm going down long rd Lawford, Manningtree so pulled over and called her but she then went down Cox's Hill. Cars were slowing down and asking if she was my dog. I had to go back to car as had left running in road but really hope she is back home soon
clm71
The power of Facebook..... Confirmed sighting again today in Lawford at 3pm.... Milton Road which is just off Long Road near Hearts Delight she then ran down Long Road and proceeded to the footpath opposite Colchester Road Lawford. It was suppose to be Bin collection day here in Lawford one very clever doggy.... Lady has also confirmed that she is still wearing her red collar.... I hope this helps in building up a picture of her movements further.... Could a trap be set on the footpaths that she appears to be using....
Chris63
So pleased she is staying in one area and obviously found somewhere to shelter in this cold weather. Well done David for not giving up on her and I look forward to seeing her in blue (reunited). X
Holly
I hope you manage to bring Zelda home soon so she can start her new life in safety!
Degrocott
Thank you everyone for your concern. We have given out 1000 leaflets and located Zelda to a property in Tendring. She is spending time with the horses and seems to be at ease with them but remains very jittery with dogs and people. We are currently building up a rapport with her at the feeding station and hope to redeploy the trap in the near future.
If you see her please do not approach as we are keen not to scare her. She is extremely timid and will run from anyone approaching closer than approx twenty metres. In the countryside around here that means she can cover a lot of ground and move into a new area. I'll of course update with any developments.
Thanks again, David.

Oh my gosh! So it is the curry place - she seems to have a liking for curries. Poor poor Zelda. That is so sad about her puppy. Zelda MUST be caught and soon. Thank you everyone for coming to her rescue. We may need to trap her and it is possible, but we'd need a rota of people to sit out all night, along with some curry!
Chris63
Is there any more news on this little dog? X
Chris63
Bella's Angels have wonderful volunteers who help find missing dogs. Hope that helps. X
Chris63
Any more sightings of this little girl? Fingers crossed she is soon home especially now it is so cold. X
Chris63
Shared with a friend who lives in Lawford. Don't forget claireL I can help out when needed, just let me know. Fingers crossed this little girl gets home soon. X
clm71
Another sighting on Christmas day at Lawford garage about 1pm they tried to approach but timid and quick.... So sounds as if she was heading back in the home direction towards Bently
Chris63
How can I help claireL? I am available tomorrow if needed. Don't have a printer that is working but quite happy to meet you and help out with posters. Please let me know if I am needed. X
claireL
I went to see owners earlier they would really appreciate as much support as we can give, really leafleting at the moment - Zelda has been spotted at several locations recently the last positive sighting being Christmas Day - she has been caught on camera on Christmas Eve this location is actually a few miles from where two different people had seen her on Christmas Day at 12.30 on Cox Hill, Brantham Manningtree - we have today ascertained that the curry outlet is in fact in Manningtree and is the Balti Experess - going to leaflet the posters there tomorrow / possibly tonight. Owner has put out hundreds of posters in any area she has been spotted. I asked how she was caught last time and (sorry this is so sad) she had a puppy which had died and she was lying by it - that really is the saddest story :( anyway will wait to hear what news the Balti Express has to offer and will let you know - everything crossed we are able to help bring her home xxx
Chris63
clm71 that would be fantastic if someone picked her up and took her to the vets. Thanks claireL will wait and hear from you later tomorrow. X
clm71
Shared poster onto 2 fb selling pages that cover area tonight and a lady has commented that - "This dog looks like the one that cars stopped for on Coxs Hill on Xmas day. Try vets in Lawford/Brantham area..."
claireL
Hi Chris63 will be in touch tomorrow - hopefully be back on here after 2 - would say that the owners have leafleted everyone in the village but from what I have read on here I think the search area is much bigger than just the village ! Thanks Chris63 thats two of us able to help ! lets see how many more we can get to help get this girly home xxxxxx
Chris63
Me again claireL. Perhaps after you have spoken to the owners we could arrange to meet up in daylight hours once you know the exact location of the dog. Anyway I will wait and hear if there is anything I can do. X
Chris63
Hi claireL I am so pleased someone is looking out for this little girl. I am available most days, obviously need a bit of notice and some guidance to where you would be looking. I live in Colchester so not that far away and would be willing to help put posters up if someone has printed them off and willing to point me in the right direction if you need help. Feel so sad for this little one being out in the cold but at least she knows how to fend for herself. Please let me know if I can be of help and maybe bring my dog over if that helps as he is a gentle soul. Keeping everything crossed she is found. X
claireL
Just to add I have recently moved back into the area so Chris63 I do know the area fairly well I grew up in Great Bentley :) x
claireL
I live in little bentley and just getting over flu so havent been able to be out and about to help look. Ironically I met the owners a few months back when I moved and one of my dogs went missing and they took him in until i could be contacted ! I have just checked in tonight to see if this lovely dog is home and very sad to see she isnt. The area is mainly flat open farmland with a large wooded area too. From my bedroom I look out across a huge open field onto that wood and have been keeping and eye out. The owners have recently moved to the area themselves so just to add to things for them they dont know the area that well, I have been told that Zelda was in fact living rough before the new owners had her so she knows how to fend for herself but it is so cold she needs to be home soon. I have to take my son to the airport in the morning but anyone who wants to get a search party together to bring Zelda home please contact me on here after 2pm tomorrow. I think the photo may be a bit misleading she def looks like a border but i believe she is about the size of a lab ! i will try to speak to owners tomorrow but would be nice to say we have a search party organized. I have been trying to think of where this curry outlet could be and am drawing a blank - the nearest fast food outlet that I know of are in Weeley 3.4 miles away, Manningtree 4.5 miles and elmstead 4 miles away all on mileage by roads so as the crow flies a lot closer Would point out though that the A120 is close to where Zelda went missing from (to get to Manningtree she would have to cross that) and the Weeley outlet is on a roundabout on the A133 - both main roads though! - what would be really helpful Kimmybear is if we knew when and where Zelda has been seen so that we can begin to piece together her movements - is it the classic triangle ? also as she was living rough before can we find out how she was caught last time ? What doesent she like / what does she like ? Will ask around tomorrow about the curry outlet xxx
GOATWHISPERER
I think she needs relisting as border terrier cross , and putting on facebook on local pages ...
Chris63
If anyone is willing to print off posters and put them up, I am quite willing to help them but need someone who has local knowledge of the area as I don't know the area very well. Those posters need to get up or this lovely girl is never going to get home. So cold last night poor little thing. X
Chris63
Poor little thing. Is there no one in the Little Bentley area that could put posters up or organise a search party. I don't know Little Bentley as I live in Colchester but I am quite happy to go out with some local people searching. Getting very cold now so this little girl needs to get home. X
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Owner has a toddler in tow so finding it hard. Have given lots of advice. Zelda has been seen in fields and woods nearby but is too scared to come over. She may also be wandering around fast food outlets, possibly an outlet that does curry on a side road off a main road, but we do not have the exact location. If it rings anybells with anyone, please can you poster/keep an eye out for her. Thank you. Owner will be grateful for any help. This poor little dog is out there running scared. Thank you. x
Chris63
Very sad this little girl is still missing. Perhaps a search party could be arranged. X
Julie B
This is so sad - the poor little girl must be so frightened. Are the rescue she came from helping to look for her ? Contact all local taxi companies asap - they can shout out to their drivers and ask them to look out for her - they are out and about all hours of day and night and may just see her. I hope she is found safe and well soon xx
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Can anyone help owners here please? This is littelost rescue all alone in a strange place. Trap won't work by itself and there are a lot of things you have to do if using a trap. I will help you but we need people on the ground and posters all over to get sightings. Do everything in the email I have sent you too.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Emailed owner. Bumping for sightings.
Chris63
Have put on facebook. Hope this gorgeous dog is soon home. X
