row1310 Good for you taking responsibility like that and such a shame you had to go through such a long stressful week but you did everything right by alerting the Dog Wardens and local vets etc as soon as Buzz went missing. If the original finder had reported finding Buzz he would have been home the same day.

Thanks also for the kind words of praise for the Doglost team!
Yes, our poor DW had a very long hard day yday but one of the dogs she picked up in the afternoon was also on Doglost and was reunited with the happy owner today. I think she does a great job in our area and hopefully gets her 'reward' when she returns dogs to their rightful homes!

Microchips .. just to say that Dogs Trust centres and most vets using their scheme, Blue Cross will do them for free.

Kizzy's mum That area comes under Shepway dog warden and number is 01303 85 86 60. However, not sure about out of hours service but they say you can call 01303 221888 at weekends (inc bank holidays) & between 5.00pm-8:30am. If they find a dog late on Friday afternoon they tend to send them to kennels for the weekend which, for the owner, ends up extra expense.

Hastings/Rother and Wealden area is covered by animalwardens.co.uk 01424 490034 who are a 24/7 service and post lists of lost and found dogs on their website.

Glad it is a happy ending. I would just like to give a general point. If a dog slips it's collar, it will have no tag..this has happened to us once in 47 years of dogs!
billybob
It is a lovely photo you have of Buzz with the children. You must all be so happy. Pleased for you all and proud of all the people who helped you throughout. x
row1310
We take full responsibility for him not being tagged or micro chipped we just hadn't really got round to it and we are at fault but its something we are sorting out atm.I was lucky enough to have friends who helped me get in contact with doglost and its the best decision we made otherwise we would have still been looking now none the wiser he was even in the battle area.the dog warden was lovely she hasn't even had a much break when she got to us poor thing deserves a holiday, she put everything into getting him home and we couldn't be more grateful.please apologise to her for buzz nearly pulling her over I got him excited lol.I didn't know the details about the finder not going to even try to find us very disappointed that she didn't .what would she do if one of her dogs went missing you watch her need doglost then.the finder should feel happy she has given three kids there family dog back there thrilled.I'm grateful she took care of him but he is our dog and belongs here.xx
Kizzy's mum
Just out of interest what is the Dog Wardens phone number for around Lydd/Dungeness area? I have one number in my mobile phone but it's an Ashford number.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks for your comments everyone.
Glad to hear that Doglost has helped people be aware of this law. I will, I think, be putting a post or 2 on to my Fbk page to try to spread the word!
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
Yes agree not everyone knows about dog wardens- and yes was taken to a vets who usually advise this. What I do know from the details we received ( from a conversation over heard while in the vets- and not with vet staff I must add) was that these finders had no intention of finding the owner but had decided they would be better owners so had no intention of even trying to locate the owner.
billybob
I also agree with GillyP. I didn't realise it was the law until all this information was discussed on doglost. I believe many people without dogs will not be aware of this, and maybe not even aware of the existence of microchips in animals.
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Agree with you there GillyP, I was also unaware until I joined Doglost, although I would have made every effort to find the owner but not necessarily have reported it to a Dog Warden.
Unknown
I've had a dog most of my adult life and it wasn't till I joined Dog Lost that I realised this was the law.
Unknown
great news ...long lead for while now , better safe than sorry lol xx
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
I agree GillyP - its a pity that the vets who scanned Buzz were not able to give the finder more advice....usually they would call the dog warden themselves. Do we know that he was definately taken to a vets? As someone that has picked up dogs with no tags several times, there is nothing more frustrating to be honest - i foster occasionally for a rescue i volonteer for and the first thing i do is put one of my tags on the dog....not only is it a legal requirement but it is basic dog ownership. I don't think the finder is at total fault as they may not have known any different and may have thought that Buzz had been dumped (especially with no ID). So nice to see the reunited picture though and am just glad that he is back home where he belongs with his family:-)
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks row1310 for those lovely comments and so pleased you and the family are all together and happy again.

CJ You put that much better than I could and yes, so much heartache could have been avoided.
GillyP That's fair comment but the person who had and looked after Buzz all week while so many people were out searching and postering had dogs herself so no real excuses I'm afraid.
NickyB
lovely happy ending but could I please beg everyone that follows doglost and has friends with dogs/cats/horses/rabbits get them microchipped immediately. free for dogs at present.BUT CHIPS THO PERMANENT ARE INVISIBLE WITHOUT A SCANNER - £4 PETTAGS WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN DIAMOND AND MEAN REUNITING SO MUCH MORE QUICKLY AND SO MUCH MORE EASILY FOR THE DOG FINDERS. Cant believe how many dogs are reunited with no tag and no chip - but its only thanks to all the wonderful dog lovers out there who do so much for others. sadly the people who find dogs and just simply decide to keep them sre always going to cause huge problems.
Unknown
All due respect CJ, not many people are aware of having to call the dog warden. Unless someone is a doggy person they would not know.
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
Lovely reunited photo. Thanks for your lovely message -So pleased this was all sorted for you!
Thanks Cathy DW for the text when outside the home. Couldn't get on line to reunite but knew he would soon be in the blue.
I think this dogwarden went above and beyond as out of her area and I know was still working till extremely late last night!!
Its a shame the finders did not abide by the law to contact the dog warden who would have known immediately who he belonged to. Instead we had a family with upset children which was totally unnecessary! At least they are now now very happy.
It is not for finders to make judgement on their own opinions as to what they feel they should do with a found dog- that is why we have procedures in place to follow which in this case was clearly not!
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Thanks for the reunited photo....hopefully your 3 year old got to sleep alright knowing Buzz was home.
row1310
Would just like to say a massive thank you to dogs lost and the wardens the police coordinator and the two people who rang if it wasn't for your hard work and determination we wouldn't have our buzzy home where he belongs.we can't thank you enough you all did an amazing job words can't deacibe how happy we are were proper stoked.we cannot believe the huge support we have had with help from Facebook and everyone sharing and going out looking, putting posters up we couldn't have done it without you all so a big heart felt thank you .we all hope you have just as fpgood a Xmas as we do love going out to everyone xxxx
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
So pleased that Buzz is back where he belongs. Thank you to the two people who called to say where he was and to all the people who postered etc. I think this proves how important a tag is on a dog - he could have been reunited on the day he went for the sake of a £4 tag....I am also surprised that the rescue didn't microchip him before he was homed as well?
sophiesuds
Welcome home Buzz, hope you didn't run away as you were worried about having to wear your Santas hat! Stay safe now, and enjoy the hugs from your family.

Lots of questions being asked as to how Buzz was found so I will try to explain.

After my post asking if anyone had any info about Buzz whereabouts they could give Doglost our Admin had 2 anonymous calls giving us confidential info.
The callers both said that Buzz had been seen in a vets on the same day that he went missing (The vets were NOT aware that Buzz was missing at that time as they are not local to Lydd and I only emailed them the next day)

The vets were contacted first thing today at my request by CJ our Police Co-ord. The vets immediately contacted the person who had Buzz and told her that she must report that Buzz had been found to the DW's. The Dog Warden (who was already aware of Buzz) then dealt with the situation.
It turns out that Buzz was picked up near Lydd on the day he went missing in the area but the finder did not report finding him. He was then passed to her friend who has had him ever since.
The person who had Buzz was not at all happy to give him back and would not take him back to the vets for collection by the owners. She insisted the Dog Warden went to collect Buzz (fm outside our area) which she did early afternoon.
The DW had literally 'dropped everything' to go and get Buzz and still had to collect some other dogs as well as deal with more strays, so unfortunately that has meant a delay in getting Buzz back home.
I can imagine how frustrating this is for his owners but a lot of work has gone into tracing this finder and getting Buzz from her. It's been a very long stressful week for them but at least we have found their boy.

My very sincere thanks to the 2 people who called Doglost in confidence .. without your information we would still have no idea where Buzz was.

Thanks to all who shared Buzz DL page and tweeted for him.
Thanks also to all of you who have worked so hard postering and searching for Buzz, but particularly to the members of Marsh Watch Dog Lovers group on Fbk!

I will update this page to reunited as soon as I know that Buzz is home with his family.

Reports on marsh doglovers from the family that he is home and being hugged to death by the children. Wonderful result, think he can go into the blue now. Desperate to find out if he was local all week.

Fantastic news. So glad he's been found safe and well :)

So happy for the family...

I will put Buzz into Reunited when I have it confirmed he is home. I gather the Dog Warden is having a very busy afternoon but has Buzz now and will be on her way to return him asap.
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
Dog warden will recommend micro chipping as was something they just had not got round to doing when got buzz from rescue.
Shows importance of anyone that finds a dog to ring dog warden straight away- that's what they are there for and would have known immediately whose dog as had this one on her records are missing.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Well done DOGLOST ladies! Bet the family with their 3 children and the 3 year old that has not been able to sleep properly since Buzz went missing will be delighted! Tx also to those that rang Doglost with info we were able to work on.

Oh my goodness. That's fantastic news, i can't stop crying. That little Buzz will be soooooo pleased to see his family. Lots of TLC for him when he gets home.xxx

Thanks for your help CJ.
Dog wardens have just let me know that the finder has contacted them already and they are currently dealing with the situation. The finder does not have a computer and was unaware that Buzz had been reported missing.
Keeping everything crossed that Buzz is back soon.

Just spoke to owners have updated info. Buzz was taken into a vets last Tuesday- but not reported to DW. The finder is to be contacted by the vets asking they ring dogwarden. If dog warden does not hear today she will go back into vets asking for details if not will be reported as theft by finding. Hope they make contact soon and Buzz is reunited with his rightful owner ASAP.

Hi. Have to post on here as don't do Face Book (yet). Walked with my 3 dogs for the afternoon from Denge Quarry, over the Reserve to the West (Lydd) side of Sound Mirrors almost up to end of Airport runway. Wafting tin of dog meat around and non stop calling for Buzz. Sat and had a good look around with Binoculars for an hour whilst mine 3 went off Rabbiting. No sign of Buzz up there but will keep looking.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
I had a busy day today but did manage to put couple of posters up in car parks in Battle on my way through there this morning. Everyone is usually very helpful in this area.

I am thinking that if someone has picked up Buzz that they may not be aware that his family have been searching continuously for him (in horrendous weather too) and are still doing so.

If someone has Buzz they have are obviously well meaning as they have taken him in to safety.
However, if they are reading this (or you know who has him) then please know that his family need to have Buzz home. They have young children who are distraught and are having difficulties understanding where their loving Buzzy is.
If you have Buzz PLEASE ring his owners asap or Doglost and let us know where he is. There will be no questions asked and this young family will be able to have the happy Christmas that they deserve.
Thanks.

Meanwhile is there anyone who would help poster the area tomorrow please?
Please keep up the shares on Fbk especially in Battle and the surrounding areas.
Many thanks to all who have been helping.
I know that there is a big team helping row1310 and her family and although you do not comment on here I want you to know that it is much appreciated.
Thank you.

There's has been a possible sighting of Buzz with someone in Battle. Unfortunately I have not been able to get any more information but will try to poster there tomorrow. If anyone is able to get some posters up in that and the surrounding areas I would be very grateful.

If someone has him and is reading this please remember that Buzz is a much loved dog with a young family who are doing all they can to find him. He has been lost since Tuesday morning when he broke his lead after seeing a badger.
I would also remind anyone who has Buzz that it is required by law to report any dog that is found to the local Dog Wardens and/or police.

Admin ... please would you send new alerts to the Battle and surrounding area?

Hi.
Have you tried looking on the farmland at the back of the Sound Mirrors ?. It's not far from where Buzz was last seen as the crow flies and this is where I found my JRT when she went missing earlier this year. Will keep looking when out with my 3 tomorrow. Thinking of you all

Tx owner has confirmed its not her dog buzz.

Have just spoken to the owner and passed on a message about a found dog that was taken to Senlac vets in Battle earlier on in the week.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Well done row1310 . You are doing a really good job and you have a lot of support .. over 3000 views of this page now!
Have messaged you some suggestions mostly of places to poster like Old Romney, Brookland, St.Mary's Bay, Greatsone, Rye etc.
When people are searching please check under sheds, caravans, bushes and in dark corners of old buildings etc as Buzz may hide out especially in windy weather. Also he may be trying to find food now so around cafes, takeaways, rubbish bins .. anywhere that wafts out smells of food!

Thanks to Kent Greyhound Rescue for sharing link to this page on Fbk.

Keep up the good work and many, many thanks to all who are helping :)

To am starting o feel the broken nights sleep its the simple things from a rustle of our bush to the slightest tap on the door wishful thinking it might just be buzz.I am ringing around again today and taking posters to the fire station.will keep doing what were doing as its working with getting as many people to see our posts and posters.
row1310
Have spoken to the local firemen who have actually seen our appeal on Facebook we will be taking posters to them in the morning for them to put up.they are even going to keep an eye out when their on their rounds too .not losing faith we will have our buzzy boy home x
row1310
The response has been overwhelming have so many people going out there way to help were extremely grateful.we are staying very positive especially with the kids coming home refreshed and full of hope.my three year old is even saying buzz is going to come home when he has finished playing lol bless her I believe she maybe right xx
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Good to hear of that 2nd sighting and that the posters are starting to work. Hopefully as the word gets around even more will come in.
Let us know if there are any specific areas that you think have not been searched or ones that should be covered again as it looks like a decent day weather wise tomorrow and people will be able to help at the weekend.

Keep postering please .. anywhere that has not been done already and into letter boxes locally. You can never have too many posters and we know that POSTER POWER works. The more posters there are the more likely you will get news of Buzz and where he is.

If someone has taken Buzz in please remember that it is a legal requirement to report that you have found him to the Dog Wardens and police. His family (who have young children who are obviously very upset) are really missing Buzz and just want him home with them again, so PLEASE just ring them or take him in to a local vet.
Or if you know if someone has Buzz in their care please contact Doglost in confidence on 0844 800 3220

Had a phone call earlier from a man who saw buzz on lydd straight turns out it was one of the people who buzz held up whilst he was in the road the day he went missing.shame really some news of seeing him after that would be great.but still hoping will power is taking over.was nice to hear my two kids come home from school excited as they said everyone has been approaching them saying they have seen posters etc means the word is really spreading well let's hope we get him back soon x

Have just been down the littlestone area with more posters and flyers also went down dungeness road had a walk round the lake spoke to dog walker who is going to put poster in local shop for us.x

We've been out fostering again this morning with the local businesses who have put posters straight up have also spoken to few people who know local farmers their as not everyone is online.bit disappointed with the local doctors who refused to put a poster up but isn't going to stop us finding our boy.I am just about to sit down and ring all wardens and vets again fingers crossed.
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Apologies, I have seen buzz on animal wardens site, listed yesterday as a Lurcher.
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Morning all, lovely to meet the owner yesterday. He is working so hard to bring his dog back. I just checked animal warden sit and cannot see Buzz listed on there. Maybe i'm wrong, but would be wise to get him on there if not already done so.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks springermad for all your work today and to row1310 for keeping people posted while springermad and I were out and about postering. Did lots in New Romney and hope to get some sightings or news of Buzz from those and others you have put up. Was lovely surprise to meet up with k9 tracker (thanks so much for answering row1310's request) and good to confirm the Dennes Lane sighting. Couple of fresh prints on farm nearby to one where Buzz went missing and tracked around to garden at back of farm buildings. Have advised to go and speak to people in the houses there and also to see if they can search to granary up there with permission from owner.
Have left lots of posters with owners so they can put them through letterboxes of houses up Dennes Lane and other lanes in area.
You can never have enough posters and as the owners do not have a printer we would be grateful for any help postering in area pretty please. Give to taxi companies, postmen, delivery drivers, in farm shops, outside schools, entrances to footpaths, in laybys and car parks and anywhere else you can think of that people can see them.
Poster power works .. it just takes that one poster to find your dog.

Still wondering if someone has taken Buzz in and does not realise that by law they are required to report finding a dog to the Dog Wardens and/or police. If you have taken him in please ring the number on here or any poster to let his owners know you have him .. no questions asked. They and their children are missing their little lad sooooo much and will not give up until they find him.

Tweeting/retweeting going on .. THANKS RIVERLADY!
Lots of sharing on Fbk too .. please keep it up as it makes all the difference.

Fingers crossed there is some news very soon. Come on Buzz .. let us know where you are, it's time you went home. Last edited: 2014-12-11 20:18:00 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Thanks for the update. Good plan and so important to check vets, rescue centres all the time.
There is the worry that Buzz is caught up but I also wonder if someone has taken him in as there has only been one sighting since he has gone missing.

There hasn't been any news as of yet.we have put posters up and have even been to the back of Romney too and spread the word with dog walkers.shops have been informed too.he does have a lead attached and were worried he is caught up somewhere but praying he has been able to find shelter in this cold.
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
I see title now changed to lead attached. So that answers my question!
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
ok, thanks for the update Clarkey. Did Buzz have a lead attached when he went missing do we know? I'll google the golf course. Will hold off printing posters until a morning update, just incase he comes back late tonight, and then if required I'll head over with some.

Sighting yesterday of Buzz in area with broken lead attached to him. Comment on MWDL's page said "I saw this dog today just before lunch time , walking up the road towards new Romney from the golf course , it went into the last house on the right. it must of been about 12 or just before he was in the road and the traffic had to stop someone stopped to get him then he ran into the drive bit of the bungalow, he had a sort bit of lead or rope hanging like it had snapped off!" It was apparently a bungalow but owners followed up on this last night and still no sign of Buzz.
Have asked row1310 to update later when she has a moment.
Thanks to all who are helping look and put posters out.

Hi springermad Buzz was lost from farm very near to Lydd Golf Course .. along B2075 I think. row1310 Would you confirm that please?
Searches been going on all day and no news yet. Have advised posters go up everywhere and I'm sure row1310 will post on here later in day to say where these have been put up and wheere exactly has been searched.
Member of Marsh Watch Dog Lovers page who has helped us find dogs in the area before has been searching today and has suggested an organised search if not found by Friday. Hopefully Buzz will be home by then but good to have such localised assistance.
Also advised to contact all vets and rescue centres in surrounding areas as could have been picked up and taken to safety by visitor to area.
Owners are doing well and their 3 year old is missing Buzz.

Any news or sightings of Buzz so far Whereabouts in Lydd is he missing from? The camber side or the other side? I have informed friends that way. Have you put any posters up anywhere. It would be good if you could get some up. Will check on here later and see about lending a hand tomorrow if Buzz is not back by then. Fingers crossed he will be home tonight.

Photo added now. Please can we have email alerts go out .. with Hastings included if poss pretty please?
Lots of sharing on Doglost East Sussex, DL South East and info coming in on Marsh Watch Dog Lovers page.
I have given advice and spoken to row1310 on the telephone. Owners have been out searching since this little dog has gone missing and are out again now.
It's a very windy and inhospitable place to be tonight .. so hoping that either Buzz has holed up somewhere nearby or that someone has picked him up and the dog warden has him.
