Tragic. I am so very sorry, and my thoughts are with the family, who now have closure, albeit a very sad one. Run free as the wind at the bridge dear Wolfie. You were beautiful xxxx
Trish GRWE
A really sad end for this special boy and i know you gave him a fab life. I transported him into GRWE in 2011 and he was as a good as gold in the car and coping with all the changes in his life . I do hope through all this sadness you have some special memories of him tx
Wolfiepolly
Thank you all for your sympathy and support on this horrible day. the poor driver could not have avoided the collision. She reported the incident to the police immediately. I called the police every single day to ask if there had been any reported incidents involving a dog on the roads in the local vicinity and the answer was always no. It's obviously a bit of a flawed system that other owners of lost pets need to be aware of
Sammie
I'm really sad about Wolfie as the owner and rescue had done a lot to circulate and look for him, and I really feel for them. This must have been an unavoidable accident, just a shame the lady couldn't have known who to contact if she had hit a dog. Wilts police have a brilliant logging system for lost/found/sighted/injured dogs and I wish more forces would adopt the same policy and finding injured dogs would be so much easier.

My partner found Wolfie dead at the side of the road. Due to severity of his injury he is unlikely to have suffered long. Devastated, gutted, regretful, but at least we know. Thank you everyone who showed concern and helped with this search.
Wolfiepolly
The surgery called the husband of the woman who ran into Wolfie. They think he ran back into the bushes on the sea wall side. They are devastated and dont want to be contacted again. The woman was doing 50-60mph and there's damage to the car. It's not looking good but we're searching hard. Last edited: 2014-12-29 17:20:05 by Wolfiepolly

Wolfie has been spotted, but it's not good news. He was hit by a car travelling along the Bedhampton slip road towards the A27 on Saturday but ran off after the collision. He's almost certainly injured or deceased. My partner, brother and dad are out there now in high vis trawling the central reservation and anywhere nearby where he could be hiding. They have food and familiar smelly blankets. My partner has already been up the hard shoulder 3 times with our other dog who had her nose down so I think it's unlikely he's on the left hand side of slip road. This lead came from a conversation overheard in the waiting room of a local veterinary surgery. The woman who bumped Wolfie has been traced and contacted but is distraught and doesn't want to hear unless it's good news. More information would be useful. I've begged them to call her back, at least to find out which direction he ran. Any more people who can help out there would be appreciated, but please be safe. I've walked the coastal path both ways this morning and spoken to the owner who is doing a fantastic job. There are posters everywhere and most people I spoke to were aware of Wolfie.
I had a good "tweeting" convo last evening with the local police who have spread the word amongst all local special constables and safer neighbourhood teams.
Owner is permanently on 'phone to everyone she can think of and getting some great advice and help.
All we can do now is hope and pray Wolfie shows his face soon.
Keeping fingers and paws all crossed...
Orbis
I am in Farlington...... Broadmarsh is pretty close, will go help look for him with my 3.
Wolfiepolly
Oh dear, poor dog. I've called the Highways Agency and they're sending someone out. It's quite a long way from where we lost Wolfie, with many hazards along the way. But it can't be ruled out.
Unknown
Hope not......... Run Free the dog it is x
Ratel
Deceased dog report 80495 needs to be checked out and hopefully eliminated from the search for Wolfie. Praying for you that it isn't him and God bless for whichever poor creature it was.

Do GRWE have any history? Was he a stray for a while before they had him? If he was then they may know the type of area he preferred to hide which may give clues to where he would go now.
Wolfiepolly
I haven't tried this organisation - thanks Sammie. I found a few vets I haven't called on this link so that's great. Tomorrow we will also be calling in on the businesses on the neighbouring Broadmarsh industrial estate, handing out photos and posters. They look like likely hiding spots for a cold, frightened dog
Sammie
I am pretty sure when we had a dog missing close to this area before we spoke to Chichester Dog Rescue and the only number I can see for them is 023 92 412454 but they are based in this area (ie not Chichester) and really know they stuff, so please do call them.

Sorry there has been no news yet, really good advice being given and followed. One more suggestion , much quicker than yellow pages etc, Any vet uk, copy and past the link.

Wolfiepolly
Thank you Ness, we'll do all those things in the morning. As you say our main hope now is that someone's taken him in and will contact vet or warden in the morning. And yes, you can text to the 1st number above.

Thanks also Sue, appreciate your very kind offer. The only thing you can do is keep spreading the word!
Sue
Hope you find Wolfie very soon. I am happy to help in anyway, just let me know. Good luck Sue.
Ness
Sorry there's nothing firm to go on (yet). Bit of a plan:
(a) Dog Wardens - try all the local ones first thing in the morning - Havant, Chichester, East Hants, Portsmouth City Council. They should all communicate but sometimes (especially with the holidays) they don't so best to call them all.
(b) Vets - Google or Yellow Pages - contact all the local one, email or phone
(c) Police stations - they will have called the dog warden but, on the off chance and in case (but hopefully not), there has been an accident
(d) Keep on the social media - Facebook, Twitter etc Bombard! Someone might, very kindly, have taken him in over the weekend and are waiting for the authorities to open up on Monday morning. That happens quite a lot on here.

I will text you my mobile (shall I use the phone 1 above?) and come down in the morning and walk mine in the area.

Try to keep positive x

Hope he's found real soon. X

No news, no sightings. We followed an unconfirmed lead this afternoon up at travellers site near funtington but it turned out that the loose dog spotted on the road was one of theirs (and captured safe and sound). Don't really know what to do next, other than keep putting up posters and flyers and revisiting Broadmarsh and spreading the word. Thank you for your help in finding Wolfie. it's a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack. If someone has got him it's odd they haven't tried ringing the numbers on his collar.
Ness
Any news? It was a very low tide this morning, so if he was still on the coastline, you would have seen him.
I can come and help look tomorrow morning first thing if you would lije
Let me know.
Wolfiepolly
Thanks for advice. Highways Agency have had no reports. Posters about to go up
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
General advice sent, hopefully he will make his way back either to where he went missing from or where owner is staying.
Wolfiepolly
Thank you Ness. My family have been posting on local sites too. Will be putting up posters tomorrow morning and trying to spread the word to local dog walkers.
Ness
Have also cross posted on a lot of local Havant/Portsmouth etc Facebook pages
Ness
Shared also in Waterlooville. We are walking at Hayling on an organised doggy walk tomorrow morning so I will pass the word around there. I do hope he is home soon. Keeping everything crossed.
Wolfiepolly
thanks SarahShaylor - I've just checked and unfortunately it's not Wolfie
