- I would like to add Ella to a long lost per article ( in brief) in a newspaper up here in NE. I know a sad subject but hopefully the owners won’t mind?

- To date there has been no sightings or known whereabouts of Ella. It is feared she perished when she went into the sea. I will leave as missing still though.

- Hi Jo no sorry there has been no news. Thank you for thinking of her. I still always cross check against any found ones as well xx
- 2016-02-04 06:56 jo
- I don't suppose there has been any news on ella just checking in. I still think of her
- 2015-12-27 22:58 ClaireC
- To date there has been no news of Ella. My own personal thought on the deceased dog found is that i dont think it would be Ella as the person who originally posted stated "terrier" type and Ella was a lot larger than a terrier. RIP Dog. Thank you for thinking of Ella and I always keep an eye out on the beaches when I am down there
- 2015-12-14 06:34 jo
- awe poor dog rest in peace, I hope someone comes forward even for closure put an owners mind at rest if they have lost one.
Thanks for letting us know, i don't think there has been any news on ella. - 2015-12-01 21:28 Tinksbaby
- this popped up on my news feed just in case its ella found southend on sea 9 hrs
DEAD DOG on #thorpebay beach opposite yacht club in between launching ramp and beach huts. Pretty gross and decayed. Could have drowned and been washed up by tide or perhaps got run over and managed to get that far. It was quite a sight on a school trip. If you know anyone who's lost a dog, it's a small terrier type, think it's got cream fur but I didn't really want to get too close.
- 2015-09-19 13:10 duffs54
- I pop back too for any updates, so sad there hasn't been any x
- 2015-08-07 10:06 jo
- I know i haven't been on here in a while has there been any news on ella?
jo - 2015-06-05 19:31 ClaireC
- At present date I have always kept a eye out for Ella when I have been in that area as I have a holiday home there - hence that is how I know owner. There have been no sightings or even suggestion of any sighting of Ella. I will always continue to keep a look out for this girl ... just in case. Paddy the dog you commented on wasn't Ella but thank you for thinking of her. Last edited: 2015-06-05 19:40:34 by ClaireC

- Just returned from Essex. Spoke to lots of locals and other people out walking along the shoreline but nothing to report. Tony the Fisherman is away on holiday until end of Feb so was unable to ask him if he had had any sightings etc.
Sophiesuds - which Dogs Trust and I will happily have a look? Ella was very young at time of going missing. Dogs Trust would have done a thorough scan for a chip and if it was Ella then it would have shown up I think.Last edited: 2015-02-16 21:28:22 by ClaireC - 2015-02-16 20:30 sophiesuds
- There is a dog with a similar coat etc to ella on dogs trust been there a while but came in very matted evidently, also says she older than Ella but maybe worth a look she's called sasha.Last edited: 2015-02-16 20:32:01 by sophiesuds

- Please take a look at my girls pages Tinker and Hemp 71080 and 71081.
Thank you xxxx - 2015-02-09 18:12 Elaine Tinker and Hemps mum
- Oh what a shame, if only she would show herself and get found, my girls Tinker and Hemp have been missing almost 8 months, but I'm still out everyday searching, we won't give up xxxx stay safe Ella xxxx
- 2015-02-08 22:24 ClaireC
- Walked the shoreline in beautiful weather and very millpond sea which you could see a fair distance today.
Spoke to lots of walkers and local people but there has been no sightings at all. I am back there again over the next weekend and no doubt we will be out again. As we are now members of Essex Wildlife Trust, and weather permitting we hope to get across to the island. Will also be speaking to some of the local fisherman.Last edited: 2015-02-08 22:26:35 by ClaireC - 2015-02-05 20:35 Elaine Tinker and Hemps mum

- Sorry Claire the one in Oldham I saw on another site, senior moment I'm afraid, but it's now been established that it's male anyway. Apologies
- 2015-01-30 14:06 ClaireC
- I cant actually find it! Am I missing something?
- 2015-01-29 19:37 sophiesuds
- There's a dog recently added today that looks similar in coat and colours to Ella but in Oldham, maybe worth checking but doesn't say if female or not. I know it's a lng shot.
- 2015-01-29 13:10 ClaireC
- Just been checking with my contacts who live local to the area of Ella being lost and to date there has been nothing to report.
- 2015-01-28 21:27 sophiesuds
- Thanks for the info Marissa, nice name by the way, just wanted clarification and you have achieved that. Not judging any rescue but was a bit concerned as no reply and you hear about these dog peddlars which obviously isn't the case here. There are so many illegal happenings in the dog world going on which don't seem to be getting addressed by the people in authority it ruins things for the good people in this world. Thank you again, and the hunt continues.
- 2015-01-28 20:39 Marissa
- Ok Just checked for you all, The dog in Rileys care has come from a family home not a pound x
- 2015-01-28 20:26 Marissa
- Please don't judge this rescue, Rileys is a newly set up rescue run by one very dedicated lady. This means that most days she is out either picking up dogs doing emergency runs etc so very very busy. I have asked someone to get in touch with me to double check but looking at the photos and the fact that they seem to have background on this girl I would say sadly its not Ella.As someone said if they get any dogs offered that look remotely like a missing dog they always check Hope that puts your mind at rest a little sophiesuds
- 2015-01-28 19:52 shane2006
- Depending on when photo's were taken dogs markings do/can change and people do do things that are illegal. Is it a coincidence the dog has the same name or could they have scanned the lost Ella if it is her. Just clutching at straws!!!
- 2015-01-28 12:53 ClaireC
- I agree with Bubbles. I would add that for Rileysgsdrescue to advertise a dog knowing it was this lost Ella I don't think it would be in their best interests as they would know that this would be totally against the law. Thank you for looking though and keeping Ella in mind. Always happy to check anything out.
- 2015-01-28 07:25 BUBBLES
- I have just been studying the picture of Ella at Riley's against Ella and the mask is different Ella above does not have the dark area above the eyes.
- 2015-01-27 21:02 sophiesuds
- Sorry, the name of the website is rileysgsdrescue.co.uk which when I think about it is obviously a business and not a rescue with the co.uk. Haven't heard a thing from them after numerous emails. There's a dog at the bottom of the adoption page called Ella from the 6th January, but doesn't say any history or from what area. There's a photo of her. Just seems the right time if she was in the pound for her seven days and right name. Hope you get more joy than. Have so far.
- 2015-01-27 10:33 jo
- any news yet anyone
- 2015-01-27 09:10 ClaireC
- What is the name of the website please?
- 2015-01-26 21:20 sophiesuds
- Thanks for that Shane2006. Just that I thought that after couple of days maybe something, also no landline which I thought a bit odd?
- 2015-01-26 21:11 shane2006
- I have heard rescues say they are run by volunteers and they may not get back to you straight away. Frustrating I know.
- 2015-01-26 18:05 sophiesuds
- I have now sent two emails to this dog rescue and not a sign of a reply. Would appreciate it if someone else could email them as I have mentioned that I was looking for a lost dog etc and was their dog from a pound. Think maybe a reply if come across as a genuine buyer. Anyone want their details rather than me name and shame them publicly?
- 2015-01-25 18:31 sophiesuds
- Haven't received a reply yet.
- 2015-01-25 11:36 ClaireC
- Will wait for your response again. Thank you.
- 2015-01-24 22:44 sophiesuds
- Have. Sent email to ask for more details from rehoming website.
- 2015-01-24 22:40 sophiesuds
- Hi me again have just across a website that has a dog called Ella on it th as the correct age but hard to tell from photo if it could be her. Doesn't say reason for rehoming, but doesn't have much info either. Anyone who knows Ella would be able to recognise her if it is her. She's also been available for the correct date etc.
- 2015-01-23 16:11 ClaireC
- No news. I think the GSD in Cornwall will not be her as Ella is chipped and I think the one in Cornwall isn't and a bit older (I'm told). Thank you though. xLast edited: 2015-01-23 16:11:57 by ClaireC

- Posted on here yesterday - Female GSD found in Cornwall, long way away I know but worth investigating.
- 2015-01-22 20:56 Elaine Tinker and Hemps mum
- Any news on this beautiful girl?? Am really hoping and praying for her, along with my two missing girls xxxx
- 2015-01-19 23:01 Patlucky
- I think we need to stay with reality here.
I know chips CAN move but not normal that they do that.
Also I very much doubt she has been passed on to a breeder.
Lets just remember she went missing she was not stolen.
We still have lots of very nice people out there.
Think we need to stay positive .
I know all these thoughts are with very good intentions.
We all want Ella to come home
Fingers crossed - 2015-01-19 19:53 shane2006
- I would have thought the people that do the scanning are aware that microchips are known to migrate, therefore in the hope that Ella is found her chip will do it's job.
- 2015-01-19 08:36 Shelagh
- As Ella was in season somebody may have passed her on to a breeder. I will scroll through and see if her pic has been sent to local breeders,if not I will send it.
- 2015-01-18 22:42 Shelagh
- I know Ella is chipped but just today I read of two missing dogs whose chips have moved ,one moved to below shoulder and one in dogs leg. Point is Ella chip could have moved and she could have been classed as stray. I know we all been trawling rescues but not from day 1, the day she went missing. Also selling sites the same sometimes you can go back on these sites. I think we should have a try at that. I'm sure we will all keep looking for Ella untilwe know 100% what happened to her.

- I just want to say my heart goes out to Matt. He is in an impossible situation.Matt and Ella will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.xx
- 2015-01-18 19:52 ClaireC
- I have asked admin to change phone number to a doglost number. Thank you everyone. If i hear of anything of Ella i or admin will update you all.xx
- 2015-01-18 19:05 Patlucky
- I think under the circumstances we have to give matt his space
and leave him alone.
Lots of people wont understand that ,
Everybody does things in different ways .
Your number will keep going down the page .
Maybe you should replace his number with yours maybe others too.
please everyone do NOT give up looking .
Ella might still be out there.
I know how brilliant you all are.
Fingers still crossed - 2015-01-18 19:04 duffs54
- AW that is so sad Matt it must be very hard for you please never give up as I'm sure you won't ever in your heart. I hope that she will be found so that you can have closure whether she is out there somewhere and has been found and is ok or the worst possible outcome that no one wants to happen, thinking of you at this very sad time xxx

- Maybe an idea to change the mobile number listed above to the one Claire Weston has added below x x
- 2015-01-18 19:03 Elaine Tinker and Hemps mum
- I know the pain he is feeling, it's so hard, every time I get a call or text from a number I don't know, I think it's news of my girls.
No one will think bad of him I'm sure. I'm just the opposite I need to be searching to keep me going xx - 2015-01-18 19:02 sophiesuds
- Have received a message on facebook that says owner is investigating a dog in a rescue in Preston, that looked like Ella and the timing matched? Presumably from what you say Claire, this is either old news or untrue I would imagine. Can understand how Matt feels especially as he thinks it better to draw a line under the sad situation he finds himself in, but he should know he hasn't given up or resigned himself to it easily and did what he could to find Ella which is he can be expected to do.
- 2015-01-18 18:41 ClaireC
- I have just been in contact with Matt, owner of Ella, he has asked me to say a very big thank you to all the people who have sent him texts etc. He is unable to answer any of them and has asked me to ask you all to now stop sending him texts. He knows that many of you will probably not understand just how he feels each time he receives a text as it brings it all back to him of the day Ella disappeared into sea and under and was never seen to surface. He doesn't want people to think him as a cold hearted person (which I know he is most certainly not)but he is trying to move on with his life and rebuild himself again rather than feeling so miserable. I asked him if he would like me to "take over" the many text messages that people with the best intentions are still sending and offering him advice etc feel free folks to send to either admin@doglost.co.uk or even to me on 07887652916 if you feel there is a lead worth pursuing or a sighting. Thank you.
- 2015-01-18 17:53 sophiesuds
- Heard from Gsrescue South, who keep telling me that the dog has been rehomed already. However, they also say she was surrendered as the family had a change of circumstances. That's all they say. So presuming their new arrival isn't Ella.
So I can only suggest we up our game to make rescues and pounds aware of Ella's plight in case she does turn up somewhere as stray or hand in. As well as checking adverts of course, which we are doing I believe. Not giving up! - 2015-01-18 17:42 ClaireC
- I am still in touch with them.
- 2015-01-18 13:14 Patlucky
- I do not think Ella's owner has posted.
Think it was a friend, cannot find any posts of late.
Lost dogs are they still in touch please.
I know they had a problem with some un feeling people on face book.
So I do hope they have given up for a few unkind idiots.
Fingers still crossed. - 2015-01-18 10:15 ClaireC
- She wasn't spayed as she was in season when she went missing.

- Sent email last night, midnight, so now await reply. I am now out for most of day but will update as soon as I get back if I have a reply by then, just to save followers keep checking posts.
- 2015-01-17 23:05 sophiesuds
- Okay thanks for that, have scim read the whole post but can't find the actual part that states she's was due in season, but this is the situation with the dog on the rescue site in respect of season due so will contact them and ask them for her history etc to see if we can find out more. Thanks again.
- 2015-01-17 22:50 Shelagh
- Didn't it say somewhere that Ella was 'in season' when she went missing. That was in a paper I believe. Of course that doesn't mean it true. Just that I don't think she spayed.
- 2015-01-17 21:49 sophiesuds
- Glad to be on team Hemp and Tinker thanks Elaine. Always present and reporting for duty!
- 2015-01-17 21:48 sophiesuds
- Does anyone know if Ella is neutered, as there is a similar looking dog in the new rescues on gsd South called Hershey. Uncanny likeness in fact but it says on their facebook page that she has already been rehomed in one day! Presume it must be a fosterer who has fallen for her instantly.
- 2015-01-17 19:53 shane2006
- Hoping for a miracle that one of GSD South will be Ella.

- Have made gsd rescue South aware of Ella as they have two young girls coming into their care tomorrow both about her age. Will have a look at their picture etc once they are posted to see if either could be her and ask about history etc. they have asked me to post a link to them but I'm not good with links if a technical kind.

- I know, but when the person (who is not the owner) first alerted doglost didn't know she was chipped and he is not privy to the microchip number but we are aware she is chipped. I will ask admin to maybe change this part but I am unable. Thank you
- 2015-01-15 17:42 shane2006
- Claire it says on details microchip unknown. Minor detail.

- Hi,as stated before Ella is chipped. Thank you for your helpful suggestions.
- 2015-01-15 13:52 Lesley (ID84584)
- Hope too the owner has done a door to door leaflet drop as if found by an older person who doesn't know about the dog warden or has internet, she could simply be being looked after.
And again, like us, over the holidays people travel far to go to the beach - we travel 20 miles - they may have taken her home to care for. We would have got her to our own vet - I would have felt a sense of urgency as I love animals so would not have driven around the immediate area looking for vets, I would have got her to mine. I know I have written this before.
Says unknown about Chip - should it be updated on her profile. - 2015-01-15 12:08 Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
- There is another female GSD missing in coastal Essex, Lily who escaped from NEW owners on first day, ID 81360 from Bradwell CM0. Both Ella and Lily are chipped.

Whilst looking for various dogs I have been checking for Solomon everyday too but unfortunately nothing remotely like him lately. - 2015-01-14 20:07 Elaine Tinker and Hemps mum

- Preloved , german shepherd dog Essex , that's what I put in search came up with a 3 and 1/2 year old bitch in Canvey Island. Does seem genuine advert from a breeder but who knows? Pictures there too. The one in Colchester was male but right age unfortunately, I've read so many! Hope it helps

- Have just had a call from Jenny and Tiga from K9 trackers and she is going to try and speak to the owner and clarify actual circumstances etc in case she can help locate Ella if she managed to get out of sea and is now laying somewhere recovering etc. will keep her updated if any sightings are made, then we will have a basis from which to work from.
Did find an advert yesterday on preloved for a similar sounding dog but said age was different and photo didn't have same face marking, but it was in Colchester. Don't know if it's worth following up but it was on preloved. - 2015-01-11 16:21 jo

- Patlucky - seems to be confusion here. I am K9tracker and Tiga will track a scent up to 14 days, I can not comment on K9search as we are both separate. If Ella went into the sea it would be impossible for Tiga to track. I am not sure how the salt water will affect the scent when back on dry land. Lets hope there is some good news soon.Last edited: 2015-01-11 14:40:44 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker

- Ray and go to hunstanton beach to walk during the xmas hols which is 20 miles away from our Norfolk home. If we found a dog, good or bad, we would have taken her back with us and called emergency line for our own vet ... They are over the border in Cambs. I have an old phone that doesn't have internet and ray simply never set his up so would not have looked for vets in the area. So it might be a good idea to check vets etc further a field. The other point is remember Lady's owner was an elderly man and he found her and took her in ... She was gone two weeks. Posters were put up but he read about her in the newspaper and well, Lady is now home. So someone could have taken her in who does not have a PC or knows about the dog warden as Pat says. I didnt even know the dog warden was the law until two year ago. I think letterbox drops are a good idea too. Is she not chipped? Does Ella have a fb page. I will sound a nutter but I don't sense she has passed, only thoroughly exhausted.
- 2015-01-11 14:00 Patlucky
- I am sure Ella being a young strong GSD could swim quite a way.
Could easy have been washed up along the coast.
The frustrating bit is she could easy have been taken in by someone as a stray.
It might have been someone who does not know the law and never heard of Dog lost.
Yes there are lots of people who still don't have a computer,

some of them, e.g. Wivenhoe Sailing Club have facebook sites but I dont know how to go about getting the link to this page on there.Does anyone have time and know how to do this please, particularly for areas which haven't yet been searched like Wivenhoe, Brightlingsea, Mersea, Holland? These sailors might be able to check the coastlines and/or know of places where she may have landed?
Just a thought. - 2015-01-11 10:34 ClaireC

- I only get the advert about some woman managing to lose weight after so many seconds, it's probably 8 out of ten times. Suddenly goes into advert as though I have pressed something for a pop up but I haven't then unable to get onto doglost website. Haven't heard yet from k9 but will keep posted. Have checked all rspca sites along Surrey Essex suffolk and Sussex but not showing Ella as well as other rescues. Really think if someone does have her then maybe tv is the answer as most people locally would see it and then finder may come forward.

Feeling positive that someone has got her thinking she was abandoned as she must look bedraggled, not everyone has internet or knows she has an owner looking for her. Do we know if she is friendly enough to go with anyone?

- Have just been updated by the dog search team who are very sympathetic and understanding and are also watchers of doglost, but cannot help as their dogs are only trained to search for people not dogs unfortunately. Back to the drawing board. I have been looking country wide for Ella on a lot of websites and haven't seen any even resembling her age wise or appearance. Will keep checking though of course.
Seems like she made it to land to me and rescuers have taken her in probably with the best intentions. Hope in some ways I'm right. - 2015-01-10 11:53 Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
- Have farms been alerted, Im sure I've seen on a post elsewhere in the country that a dog had been posted on a farming site. How about localish hiking clubs. - To the question how far can dogs swim
I cannot find the story at the moment .
There was a Labrador that went missing off an Essex beach.
It was found in Kent.

- As far as I am aware a dog warden would have to collect and take a dog to a pound where it will serve it's 7 days then a rescue space would try to be found. The local dog warden is aware of Ella. She may have been picked up by someone and still in the Clacton area. I was just wondering if there was any travellers sites in the area. I am still looking on the internet and have broadened my search to the UK in case she has been moved out of the area.
- 2015-01-10 09:05 ClaireC
- Jo, she would never have made it to Colchester (would take you approx. 1 hour by ferry boat) or Chelmsford (which is even further), certainly not by swimming. IF she made it out of the sea then it is always the possibility that she was picked up and taken to these places and I guess certainly for Colchester area there is a large vet practice I think is called Colne Valley. She is chipped though and would have thought that she would have been scanned. Somebody else posted that Ella did appear in the Colchester Gazette. I do believe that most (if not all) the DWs in the area are aware of Ella and if chip didn't pick up for any reason they are also aware of this site I am told. She is just about 1 year may only 9-10 months old.xLast edited: 2015-01-10 09:18:54 by ClaireC

- I think she could be anywhere inland, possibly found exhausted and taken by car to a vets rescue or dogwarden. I can't find how far a dog can swim, but if she came out of the sea at some point there is no reason she couldn't have re entered sea/river again. She obviously needs food so could be looking anywhere for that. If only there was a possible sighting. Does anyone know how old she is?
- 2015-01-10 05:42 jo
- great news sophie,
looking at the map of the sea does anyone think it could be possible she could have made it further to another area like colchester chelmsford just wondered if it was worth me trying these places. - 2015-01-10 00:40 sophiesuds

The chap in charge has sent Ella's poster to any local pilots that could in their course of work be flying over the area and upto date he hasn't been advised of any sightings . He has however advised me of a group of dogs that are used to search by scent for vulnerable people who maybe able to pick up her scent and help track her down. One group he mentioned is called Essex lowland search but has sent me another link to Searchdogsessex who I will email now to see if they can help in any way. - Have farms on Mersea Dengie and that piece of coast that goes up towards Brightlingsea been alerted. I would think IF she is on land chickens might be vulnerable, don't know about rabbits, cos a girl has to eat. Golf courses could also be a good source of food. Are AA dog rescue and NAWT aware, I'm not good on computer so am unable to share except to my FB page.

As in Norfolk at Christmas a dog was save days after been lost.
It was stranded on rocks (see my post of news yesterday)

He is going to a place that it is possible a dog could be washed up.

- Both my husband and I did the walk from Brightlingsea back to and beyond St Osyth (some 6-7 miles worth of coastline)last Sunday. Sadly, we never spotted anything along the shoreline. Personally, in open sea and the extremely cold sea temp I doubt that she would swim to Mersea - its a fair distance.
- 2015-01-08 12:56 Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
- I've looked at tide tables for area on 29/12 High 4.58am, low 11.27am, High 17.38pm. Ella went into sea 1.55 pm on an incoming tide. Incoming tide runs from Harwich to Brightlingsea. (I either read that on here or on one of the other sites I went on ) Looking on google map for CO15 IF she could make 10 miles she could have come out on Mersea, Dengie peninsula or anywhere along the coastline between clacton beach up towards Brightlingsea. I can't find out how far shepherds can swim BUT according to a vet on an American website they can be excellent swimmers (one of the top 1/2 dozen), they swim with heads above water, built like boats with a low centre of gravity, coat keeps them warm and some dogs have webbed feet (don't think shepherds do ). I couldn't find anything re wind direction. Gleaned all this from websites so please corrct me if I'm wrong, we all, especially owners need hope.

Sopiesuds, I totally agree. The loval TV, radio and papers nee dto be alerted. I am sure they would pick up on a story as big as this has become. Problem is, we need someone to take the lead on this as I feel I am getting nowhere. I am not able to do this myself (because I'm deaf) and I don't think owners are able to, due to the stress they are under. Along this stretch of the beach would be many dog owners as it is the only beach in the immediate area that you are allowed to walk their dogs all through the year which makes it very popular with walkers.Last edited: 2015-01-06 11:34:42 by ClaireC

- How far they run is just a function of how far their legs will carry them. Big strong dogs, especially young ones, can run 5 miles or more. Small dogs may be able to go half a mile at most. Most dogs are recovered well within a two-mile circle of their home, especially because they normally will never run for an extended length in a straight line no matter how strong or fast they are.
If it is an outgoing dog, it will be looking for other dogs and for other humans who are friendly and likely to comfort, feed and shelter it. Neighbors’ yards and public parks are spots it will like. If it is a shy or older pet and not trusting of strangers, it will hide. Bushes and under cars are good spots.
How far away do the owners live from Jaywick sands could she be trying to get home. - 2015-01-06 08:52 sophiesuds
- Can the local TV team not become involved, it would help make everyone aware on land if she has managed to reach dry land, and if someone has taken her home and not notified someone in authority, she would be noticed by others. Other people who earn a living on the sea either above it or n it or even under it would also be able to convey any information they had which at the moment may seem insignificant. How about emailing the bbc or itv as after Christmas they are usually looking for news items. I realise the owner would have to speak to the crew etc but it would also help the cause as rescues would be aware if she's been placed there too, as well as the empathy others will have for the owner to spur them on to volunteer should another search be arranged.
- 2015-01-06 08:51 BUBBLES
- I have been searching rescue centres around area and in Battersea, nothing yet. Not everyone is on the internet she may have been picked up by someone who was visiting the area. Yesterday i emailed the RNLI at Clacton/Jaywick i got a phone call this afternoon a lovely lady by the name of Penny said to me nothing had been reported to them from the 30th Dec she said the only rescue they had gone to was a family out at sea. The woman gave me the number of the Martime operation centre Jaywick which i phoned this afternoon the man had a
look on his emails and recordings from the 30th onwards he said they had gone out to a missing dog at sea at 1.55 as someone had reported a dog in the water he said they searched all round for a while but no sign and had to give up. He said to me sometimes the dogs find a way back or wash up along the coast line he said it is rare a dog drowns in the ll the years he has done the job im keeping my fingers crossed. Penny said if they had something come in she would email me just thought it may help. - 2015-01-05 22:17 ClaireC
- If Ella went into the sea from the rocks it would have been at the time the tide was in because you can walk on them when the tide is out based on my knowledge of the beach.
- 2015-01-05 21:54 Shelagh
- Do we know when Ella went missing. Cos high tide is between 11 -2.

- Tides
When the tide is ebbing ie GOING OUT it flows to the West.
When the tide is flooding in ie COMING IN it flows to the East

- I have just seen on the owners timeline that he has been to the nature reserve today but unfortunately no Ella. :-(
I have also sent to admin the additional photos that have been shared from his page to the local Lost & Found page.
I continue to walk the sea path daily checking behind beach huts etc and have alerted other local dog walkers but no-one has seen anything although a lot have commented that they have seen the facebook shares. It would be handy to know which way predominantly the currents flow in that area. Last year I met a guy who lost 2 retrievers swimming at Clacton and they came ashore further up rather than down the coastline... - 2015-01-05 18:56 Patlucky

Bubbles is she on all the Colchester sites and are they being updated, as it isn't too far away might even get extra on foot searchers. What is Ellas FB page called?

- Re Kazzies post below, this dog is at Kew Vets Harlow tel 01279 422066. She/He does look darker but photos are deceptive, does have the dark triangular bit between ears. People that found her could have picked her up from Clacton area and taken her to their vets in Harlow for treatment.

- There is the huge offshore wind farm off this immediate coastline, if anybody local knows who is responsible for maintenance teams that may just go out on a daily/weekly basis would be an idea to let them know for the crews to keep a lookout for anything in the sea. Might be able to find out more from RNLI people who the team/organisation are as a further thought.

Received a copy of email also from the group asking if others are able to fly from Clacton to Clear point, presume this would cover the area where Ella maybe?

However, due to the urgency of the situation we did keep Ella at the top longer than usual. Patlucky, Mersea Island is too far away for any dog to get to especially in the icy cold sea. Believe me it is cold in there I personally know that today!
I believe I am correct in saying that the farm(s) around immediate area will have been notified by my friends and their friends - they do have an excellent community grapevine there.
What I do sincerely hope is that if the visibility is a lot better tomorrow then it will bring in some much awaited news. Thank you for all your help x - 2015-01-04 19:06 Patlucky

Driving around and parking only needs one person to see it .

I have not heard from him so take it she was not seen.
He seems a very very genuine guy and I think he will be spreading the word.

Perhaps somewhere she doesn't know or if she does be hiding near to where her owner parks the car. Is they any food places she would pick up the scent for? Any homes nearby? She could be hiding.

- I have come to see what our problem was with trying to find out what action was being taken to find Ella. Poor owners were under the impression she had already gone to heaven and so believing they were only going to find her body. They were in a totally distressed state, and still are. We had not been in touch with owner until now, only friend who put this on for owner, so we were all fighting to get immediate action not knowing they thought it too late. Sadly, it may well be true that Ella has gone to heaven, but as we all know on DogLost, it's not over till it's over and I do feel our fight was not in vain as so many of you have helped so much towards the new searches now occurring. Once the rocks have been checked for sweet Ella, the sand dunes, and the island, then we have done our job and we will know whether Ella is waiting there, or not. Until that time, we carry on. Posters along the coast will still be good in case we need folk to be alerted. Although Ella is chipped, a poster would be best to alert the public immediately so as owners can be contacted. Well done everyone. God bless Ella and her loving owners. Whatever the outcome.

- Hi Jo,
Its not actually an Island, it used to get cut off right at high tide but doesn't any more its an Essex Wildlife Trust reserve.
You can walk to it along St. Osyth beach, just adjoining Jaywick or drive to the reserve down Lee Wick Lane, St. Osyth. Its a large area to search & near as impossible without flying over it.
The only true island round here is Mersea & the dog would never have swum that far.
Hope this is of use.

Well worth a phone call

He might even say yes, and he is a dog lover.
So he will understand.
I think all of us as dog lovers and owners can understand that feeling Ella's owner is feeling.

- There is a man local to me in my town who is a private pilot who owns a choc lab that is the only registered dog with his own flying award as he flies everywhere with his owner. The owner has flown seals from Scotland to norfolk to get them help. I can give you his name and more details, but please be aware I don't know him personally, in case you may think it's a good idea if he could fly over the area of the island or the sea where Ella went missing. He's based in Bedfordshire so don't think he would take too long to fly to Ella's part of the country. I don't know if he's even available etc but just an idea as you would see more by air than boat, and he's an animal lover too!

- We will NOT give up hope until we know otherwise. That is the DogLost way, there are loads of us rooting for Ella in the background (frustrated at feeling helpless and doing what we can) and willing her safe. Kimmybear and Claire are working so hard to support the owner, we can ALL help by supporting them x

- Thanks Jane for the nice comment I always try to look at things logically .
I think because people did not see Ella come up that does NOT mean she did not.
It would be very hard to see that from the flat of the beach.
So please let think she is still out there somewhere and not give up on her.
That would not be good going on what someone thought they saw.
Sorry to people who saw that

- That is good news,Shelagh and very relevant. Jayne, I was told by a lady who listed Ella on DL FB that Ella got out onto the rocks and fisherman frightened her off, accidentally. They did not see where she went next. I don't think anyone is saying not enough being done, but pushing forward with advice and even offers of donations to help. We only have a lot of heresay to deduce the facts, sadly, so I am glad owner has been in contact. Even if she went under, as Happiness says anything is possible. As island is accessible by land, this is a good way to check. x
- 2015-01-03 20:22 Shelagh
- Don't know if this info is relevant now; You will not be allowed on island without permission from Essex wildlife trust 01206729678. Also you do not need a boat. There is a direct route on land from St Osyths.

Those people that say that have not got a clue.
Tell the owner not to worry what face book people say.
Mutts in Distress helped a dog that had such bad legs it was almost walking on his chest.
Sandy is ok now after two operations.
I read what people said about him and they were real cruel.
Even said it was not real it was a fake picture.
I met Sandy the day before his op that was not fake.
Tell the owner there is more here that care than not care.

- In view of money being offered for fisherman/boat then poss Jo who sent Tony the email originally would be kind enough to perhaps email him again with this proposal? It maybe that I wont find him tomoro and as the weather is expected to be good might be an ideal opportunity if he is willing to go ahead before I get there which wont be until mid-day(ish).
- 2015-01-03 18:28 ClaireC
- If I can find Tony the Fisherman tomoro I will make it known about going out to island and will post back on here. As I've just said to others tomoro (Sunday) there will be the Regatta and also the sailing clubs out in this area and beyond. Hopefully Matt will have contacted Harbour Master and he will have notified the local clubs to keep an eye out. There may just be the windsurfers around tomorrow as well and I will have a word with them to see if they can navigate to the island. But I do have to stress that although I mentioned this island, it is still a bit of a distance from where Ella went into the sea and it was a possibility that the tide has carried her there! Please try to bear with us as we are all trying to do everything humanely possible but in a safe way as well as the sea can be very unforgiving.xx

- I will donate too! We can co-ordinate donations here on DogLost. Shelagh you are quite correct and I also meant for owner to hire a sailor/fisherman with a boat. It has been said a few times that owner has contacted various people/places, but HAS the radio put an announcement out? Has it sent out a plea for help? HAS the newspaper agreed to run the story? This is what we need. In the past this type of plea for help has been answered by many and has resulted in dogs being located. Please don't assume Ella has already gone to heaven as it is possible she is still out there. We won't know, until we know so we keep going. We are all willing her, her owner and her helpers, safe and home. Keep up the good work, thank you everyone. x

- Sorry I did not mean for owner to hire a boat ,but to hire a fisherman to take him out. I know some have said they will keep an eye out if they go near island, but Ella is not just going to be standing there. - Just contacted Matt Re. The suggestions etc and he has been in contact with Brightlingsea etc as well as calling the council coastguard and wardens again but no luck at the moment. Also agree about it being a bit hazardous for him to venture out in a boat but some of the fisherman in the area have said they'll keep an eye out and make a pass when they go out.
Local radio and paper had already been informed, and I know he has many friends in the area with dogs of their own so they have been walking their dogs around the area just to see if they see anything too but no such luck as yet. And he asked me to Thank you all for all your helpful comments and suggestions.

I am sure he does have this just someone to help search and keep his spirits up.
Lets just think about one thing please.
You cannot get a boat and just go out to sea it is far to risky.
You need someone who can man a boat and knows what they are doing.
Don't need owners getting into trouble in the sea

- When you have lost a dog, you just have to keep on pestering and pestering these people who are reluctant to help. Get a boat and get to that island, by hook or by crook! Owner needs to get there and call Ella. Leave food, fresh water. Look as much as you can to where you can get. She could have got there and is waiting for her owner. Those who succeed are those who don't give up. Has owner called the newspapers? Called the local radio? Call everyone and pester them until they help you. In fact, get everyone calling these places. Does anyone have the local radio's number? The local paper's number? The coastguard's number? We can all help by calling. We need action not words. So far, I can't see that anyone has hired a boat or is actually out there physically searching for her??? I know it is so hard, but this is what is needed. Owner may be too distressed to do it himself but a friend or relative can and should step in and now, not next week. All the people on this page are willing owners/relatives/friends to get out there and search. Let's have some phone numbers so we can call if too far to search ourselves. The Nature Reserve Warden should be interested as a dog on the loose in a nature reserve may not go down too well so he should assist. So hoping we get some action. Stay safe Ella, we are willing you well. x

- Mcstewart89, it might be a good idea to drive around (or phone) to Brightlingsea Marina/Harbour and have a talk with the Harbour Master. Through the summer they do run the ferry boat service to Mersea Island a bit further over but can be seen from Point Clear. The Harbour Master would, I'm sure have contacts over there just in case Ella has been sighted that way because of the tides. There are also fishermen over there and of course a lot of visiting boats come in/out through this stretch of water. Do please post on here if you were successful in getting hold of him or anyone over there as there is an office there. I believe its the same Harbour Master who is responsible for the stretch of water by the Nature Reserve we have been talking about. Good luck x

- Hi everyone the owner is chasing things up again today although I believe he called everywhere we could think of several times the day she went missing and we're told to leave a description and they'd get in touch if anything heard. The radio thing I believe has already been done as well as pieces in the local gazette, and a few posts over the net on Gumtree, etc. I know matt's been keeping an eye out on Facebook too as he's put out several group posts about ella but at the moment no luck. U will pass on about this fishing Island.i know he has friends who work in those areas that have been looking around the orchards, and the seawick holiday park beach areas also. I'd just like to, on matt's behalf, thank you for your continued help and concern.

- Although most of the caravan sites are closed during the week, some, if not all are open at the weekends through the winter. Not sure if this is the same for the site nearest to Jaywick. Maybe somebody local know that answer. Mine is open at weekends only (The Orchards @ Point Clear. I hope to be down there tomorrow and we can walk the coastal route from Point Clear to as far as I can subject to tides etc.

- an email i got back from tony the fisherman
Hi Jo,
Yes no problem. Unfortunately none of the fishermen are doing very much at the moment due to xmas & lack of fish & I have a stinking cold which is keeping me ashore too.
If I get out next week obviously I will look out for the dog. The island u talk about is the Colne Point nature reserve which is almost unsearchable due to the many deep & wide channels that run through it.
I will keep my ears & eyes open.

- A very cautious suggestion: Would this be an appropriate area for the use of a drone? Are there any model flying clubs that could help?
Would anyone at the flying club help? - 2015-01-03 08:22 Shelagh
- Can owner not hire a fishing boat himself. He could have a good look round on island. Little girl will be petrified now and a familiar voice could coax her out. Also can somebody sweet talk coast guards, they must have helicopter. What about when they do training, could they go that way. Also get as much publicity, get owner to phone everybody,we need boats out looking for her,as its been a long time. Wish I was nearer to help. Thoughts and prayers to owner and sweet Ella.

So feel so helpless.
Hire of a boat is a good idea.
Also give radio and local newspaper s a ring.
This is not just a lost dog it is story.
One thing newspapers like is a story.
If it helps a dogs plight it is worth it.
Yes Ella could be in a cave if there is any in that area or on rocks.
If I remember correctly the water is not so deep as Southend.
IE you go walk out a lot further than you can at other seaside places.
That is a good thing
My fingers crossed watching for her to be reunited soon

- Well done everyone, you are doing great. Okay, has anyone taken another lookl at hte same rock Ella was on before? She may have gone back on to it and as PatLucky touched on, could still be there. It may be hard to see as her colourings could be same colour as rocks, so if that fisherman, Tony, who responded in Claire's post below, could search close to the rocks and sides of sea all the way aloneg, that would be really great. Or anyone else who could search carefully, along all rocks etc. If there are any caes, cavens etc it is possible she has found them also. She could be hidden. Can owner or friend hire a small boat and sailor to trawl the edges of the water? Whatever you are doing, is something to help. Local radio should be called, even try local TV station - they may well run a story. Call the local paper urgently. Someone knows something - you need to get word out to everyone by contacting the media. Go for it! I am too far to physically help, but please keep getting word out far and wide. x

- Hi clarkey, if you look at the map as though you were standing on the beach at Jaywick looking out to sea with all the wind turbines in front of you there will be Clacton Pier to your left with Martello Tower almost beside you by the RNLI boat station. If you look to the right, you will see a "pier" of rocks going out into the sea and the large beach then resembles a bay. There are of course, the sand dunes along this part of the coastline heading towards the rocks. There is the (light aircraft) ?Clacton Airfield to the right and they often take off towards the sea. This might be a good point to call into to see if there is anybody that would be prepared to fly around the immediate area of the sea to help you. The island I am referring to would be "over" the other side of the jetty of rocks but still a bit of a distance but not sure which way the tides run. Purely a guess, but I think the tide would flow in this direction of the island because when we walk from Point Clear depending on the time of the day/season we sometimes have to use the footpath instead of the beach because the tide has "flowed" in on certain parts of the beach - hope this bit makes sense! I know my friends are keeping a watch on this part of the coastline as they live virtually opposite the island and will call me if they see or hear anything untoward. - Thanks for the update Mcstewart89.
Claire, jenny4, jo and all .. you are doing a great job giving local contacts for people willing to help. A long way from my area but my heart goes out to owners of Ella and all I can say is that miracles do happen.
Would be good to know the exact stretch of beach where Ella was seen on the rock. I know it is a long shot but it's still possible that Ella could have got out of the sea again when the tide came in or she could have made it to the island mentioned below.
It would be well worth checking all the local vets, dog wardens and rescue centres in the area, especially on Monday when they are likely to be open again.
I hope Ella's owners find out what happened to her one way or another.

Watched some true life similar rescue .
The dog stayed on rocks for quite a few days.
It was just by sheer chance the boat looked one day and found the dog.
Up to that point they had not gone that far

- Thank you everyone for you help and support its truly overwhelming to see so many strangers concerned for the welfare of my friends poor dog. Unfortunately we have nothing new yet. The coastguard came along when called by a member of the public as she was sitting on the rocks but they were in a jeep and I've been told by a member of the public who lives just behind that stretch of beach that she was distressed and they were approaching her and she jumped in to get away from them and they didn't do anything else. Apparently it was a good couple of hours before the boat actually turned up as well. Long before the boat arrived the people who had attended reckoned she was apparently half a mile out. I know a few of the people who were there are submitting complaints. To be honest at this point I don't think the owner cares about this though but about getting her home. One way or the other. Just so sad to think that he is starting off the new year having to go through an ordeal like this and hoping that ella is safe and well, however slim the chance. Thanks again to all of you.

How far do you go out? I fish up to Holland-on-Sea inshore (approx 10 miles away), out to the Gunfleet Sands, where the proposed wind farm is due to be built (approx 9 miles away), along to the Buxey Sands (approx 7 miles away) and in both the Rivers Colne and Blackwater (both just minutes from where I launch).

- There is a marina at Brightlingsea (as per Google), would anybody there be able to help or give advice. I hope this girl has found her way back to shore but where?

- There is a fisherman who goes out virtually everyday (I believe) to catch local fish. His name is Tony and he lives along the Western Promenade at Point Clear. I'm sorry I don't have any other contact details for him. From where his boat is he is not that far away from Jaywick and would be using this stretch of water to catch his fish. It might be worth going up to see him or at least you will be able to get his phone number at the small roundabout by the entrance to The Orchards Holiday Village at Point Clear. His board is usually there especially over the weekend. Also just around the corner from there is a café called Tudor Café again another good asking point and will display a poster and make a lot of people aware of your missing dog. I am down there on Sunday and will hopefully be able to walk around the headland at Point Clear and we will keep our eyes open. Near the café there is an island and I can't help but wonder if your dog has been swept in this direction and made it onto the uninhabited island. Again, it is something that perhaps Tony the Fisherman might be able to go out to it or at least the café owners might know of somebody else local.

- Yesterday i emailed the RNLI at Clacton/Jaywick i got a phone call this afternoon a lovely lady by the name of Penny said to me nothing had been reported to them from the 30th Dec she said the only rescue they had gone to was a family out at sea.
- 2015-01-02 13:34 MillieVW - Area Volunteer - West Wiltshire

- My lass did this, she was out at sea for nearly an hour. She came in at the same place - tide was low on the turn. The coastguards said dogs often do this, and swim back, but depending on tides may be swept in one direction or the other. Is there anyone who knows the tides there who can help if you tell them the time she went in? Small boat fisherman? Because she may well have come ashore some way away.
Hoping ad praying for you

- This is so dreadful a situation. Owners, you need to hang in there as you really never know, until you know. We keep searching till we find her. You need loads of posters up all along the coast, even to other beaches as sometimes the tide goes to opposite places. If anyone has rescued her, finds her, or if she got herself out to safety, people need to see posters to know who she is and call you. She may just be lying low, if exhausted from the swim. Hang in there and get those posters up. You CAN find her. xxx

- Still no news. We were out that night going along the beach and nearby fields/parks. And again yesterday but still nothing yet. There hasn't been a body washed up so hoping that's a good sign that maybe she got out but we have no other sightings since the beach.
