- Yes, I suppose it is difficult to impose compulsory chip scanning, but people are becoming more and more aware of it, therefore vets too. Knowing that my cat's chip migrated to under his magnet, I feel it is very important to scan animals ALL OVER. Animal identification still needs to be refined - my first rescue was still chipped to the breeder who never handed over the information to the first owner and then everything got convoluted and complicated and although I tried to follow up I have never been persuaded that the eventual family that adopted her got the information they needed, but I think (hope) and am pretty sure she is safe

- Like Seeks I wonder whether a lot of lost dogs will be found in the run up to compulsory microchipping, no doubt leading to a lot of heartache all round. I am not convinced that compulsory scanning is the answer...it is unenforceable. What is needed are some clear guidelines to vets on what they should do with new patients, and when they scan a dog that flags up as stolen/missing. It is very possible that Teddy was scanned in Janauary and the fact that he had a chip noted. Sara's experience seems to have been very different to that of the poor owner of Treacle (dog Id 72144). Not sure they have their dog back yet.
- 2015-07-11 03:32 Seeks
- Sara first I am so pleased you got your baby home!!!! I needed to see a longer term baby be found so much!!
The scanning...You know the petition for it was badly supported...It scrapped 24,000 I think? Our girl is chipped...she been gone 18 months..Surely at some point her chip could have been checked ...yet....
I honestly hope in April 2016 a lot will come home when chipping becomes compulsory....I wonder how many will then have 2 chips...If they don't scan them before chipping they do after....Just now I needed to see chips can work...
Really pleased for you my friend and Teddy you have given me a bit of hope back....

- Thank you all sooooo much ! I can't tell you how I feel at this moment - teddy was kind off looked after - although his spending all day in the vet tomorrow for a severe ear infection and skin allergy . I would also thank dog lost and also the micro chip company and every one of you for your help and encouragement it meant so much - BUT I would to also point out that teddy visited a vet in January ! Had this vet cares for animals so much ! How comes he wasn't scanned ? He was highlighted as stolen ! So a long way to go - but things will get better xx

- Hi Alikat...it does give all owners of chipped dogs a boost! they do get back...nothing disappears into thin air....What we need is compulsory scanning along with compulsory chipping....which Debbie Mathews from vets get scanning is doing her best to achieve...do join her FB page!

- Oh what wonderful news! Roll on next year when ALL dogs will HAVE to be microchipped, as otherwise Teddy might not be home. I hope his temporary "owners" took good care of him - it just amazes me that someone would buy a dog like that, probably "in a pub", as a Christmas present. A reunited photo would be nice when Sara gets a chance.

- Just wondering if there is any news re Teddy? So many dogs are being found months or even years after going missing - it's very possible Teddy will turn up one of these days. Stay strong Sara. x
- 2015-03-21 10:43 Sara
- Hello - yes all groomers , vets and foal farm are all aware - I've done all the parks inc fliers - I also check gumtree etc every day .

- That sounds like a really good idea from charlie. I'm guessing you've already been in touch with all LOCAL vets and rescues (including Foal Farm at Biggin Hill?) and hopefully got posters up at all of them? There are a lot of good people on here who spend hours going through adverts for dogs for sale on sites like Gumtree and Preloved too, so if any of them spot anything I'm sure they will post it here for you. Probably worth going to a local park where dogs are walked regularly and handing out some fliers there, and maybe a poster in the window of every newsagent in the area? Just a few suggestions for you - keeping busy is the best way of staying positive. xx
- 2015-03-10 18:58 charlie
- Have you tried sharing his PIC and story in your own words on facebook, begging people to share. It does work you only have to read some of reunited stories on here.
Another suggestion is to go through yell pages look for all dog groomers and send out poster asking them to keep look out, having these dogs myself I know how much grooming is needed and looks as though someone has kept your baby instead of handing in. Following Teddy and wishing lots of luck. - 2015-02-25 20:52 Sara
- Thanks alikat - it's hard being positive when it's just a mental torture is 2 months since I have seen him - and is just torture on a daily basis . I never ever knew till I lost teddy ! Just how many animals go missing and with every circumstance going - I'm just shocked everyday ! Being in contact with vets rescue centres dogs lost batter sea etc etc
- 2015-02-24 17:05 alikat
- Sara, don't worry, you can see above that Teddy still has 17 followers and 388 shares - nobody has forgotten about him. Because I follow him, I see every day how many comments there are so I come back and have a look if there are any new ones. x

Emailed the rescue to prompt them to look at these details. Even if the chip has failed (they don't say Scamp is chipped) there are other features that would ID Teddy...Last edited: 2015-01-18 09:43:38 by CopperM - 2015-01-14 23:30 Sara

- Milly's mum you are so right,I have found chips round the back of elbows and right up by the ear. I carry two different types of scanner with me, as on occassion they have not picked up chips before. Plus my vet scans as well as routine.
- 2015-01-09 13:08 Basildon DW
- Sara, no chip I am afraid, My lad has had a little bath and he has some black flecks running through his white chest. We have not been able to clean him up properly as he is badly injured, he is still with my vet at the moment but I will post photos as soon as he is well enough to pose to put your mind at rest.
- 2015-01-08 22:58 Millys Mum
- It would also be good for Darwin Vets at Biggin Hill to have one of Teddy's posters just in case Teddy has been taken further afield and also it's just 15 minutes car journey away from Shortlands.
- 2015-01-08 22:54 Millys Mum
- Meant to answer your question about Teddy's chip 'slipping' and yes microchips can migrate but vets and rescues would be aware of this and would scan all over the dog or cat's body, including their legs and often repeat the scan two or three times to make certain nothing has been missed.
- 2015-01-08 22:46 Millys Mum
- Sara - Thank you the updates as they are very useful and let others know how determined you are to get Teddy back home but I do feel certain that it won't be too long until you receive that long-awaited phone call. By what you said, it sounded as though the travellers were okay and helpful. As Ellejay has said (who unfortunately knows from personal experience) please speak to the travellers politely and in a non-accusing way. We know that there are decent folk amongst them and so just appeal to them to help you and make it clear that no questions will be asked and that all you are concerned about is getting Teddy back home. It may be worth a second visit to let them see how distraught you are and how much you are missing Teddy. I spoke to Kim in Rishi's Newsagents at the Park Langley shops this afternoon and we spoke about Teddy and so it's good to know that she is aware (she's also a dog owner) as so many customers (including many dogowners and dog lovers) visit their shop.Last edited: 2015-01-08 22:48:15 by Millys Mum

- That's good to hear Sara. At least with boys it's obvious that they've been neutered, so people can't use him as a stud. Yes, do stay positive. Last year we were involved with helping local dog Minnie. The owner took the week of work and cycled round the area with posters and flyers. He was rewarded with a call to say she'd been spotted on a golf course.
- 2015-01-08 10:38 Sara
- Hello ellejay - thank you will sort all of those out . I'm staying positive and will never give up x
- 2015-01-08 09:02 Sara
- For the dog warden - yes teddy definitely been done - neutered or spayed whatever happens to boys . Thank u fingers crossed - possible the chip slipped ?
- 2015-01-08 07:36 Baggy Dog
- Aww, was hoping for good news today. I'll pop a poster into Eden Park vet this morning. Ellejay's right about getting them into all the other vets - again, makes it more personal if you take them in personally rather than emailing them.
- 2015-01-08 00:31 ellejay
- How were the travellers with you Sara ? Shame no news, but the more the word is spread around the quicker someone will notice him. Get one in every vet clinic you can think of. We all know dogs can travel when missing, so pop a poster in vets outside of beckenham and bromley, try the 2 big vets in addiscombe, try Eden park vets, Bickley, petra wood etc... Also ring around dog groomers, go on yell.com and search groomers all round bromley area..you never know if someone had taken him to get washed. Have you informed pets at home in Sydenham, purley way... Get a poster in their stores. Hang on in there and stay strong.. I know it's hard trust me I been through it, but we got our boy back and you will too xx
- 2015-01-07 22:43 Basildon DW
- Hi sara, can you confirm that Teddy is neutered please. It says he is spayed but I just want to double check. I have picked up a male shih tzu that looks very similar to Teddy. My boy is entire, no chip found but re-scanning tomorrow at the vets with their scanner..
- 2015-01-07 18:55 alikat
- Sara, you're doing all you can to find your cute little boy. I'm quite sure that someone will have him and it will be a question of waiting patiently until he is taken to a vet or somewhere he will be scanned for a microchip. With all the shares on Facebook etc. you can make Teddy "too hot to handle" and he may ust turn up... whoever has him may have also thought of using him for breeding, but they'll soon find out that these bits are missing too. Don't ever give up hope and keep on doing what you are doing. xx
- 2015-01-07 14:01 Sara
- Sadly no joy - but on a positive note loads of nice people all helpful and smothered the area in lost posters . Thanks again all
- 2015-01-07 00:16 ellejay
- If you do get to see him and it is him, they will probally lie out of their teeth, I have had a few run ins with travellers before regarding missing dogs, so it is vital you inform police. But if you do manage to speak to one of them play it cool and act nicely. If you go in guns blazing you won't get anywhere. You have to point out there are family members completly distraught that he is missing and need him home. I know of a few cases where owners have said dog is on medication and needs his daily meds.. They tend to not want them then. Ask police before you go what questions are best to ask. Be forceful with the police, tell them you need their help... I wish I could come up with you but am working, good luck but be careful. Also pay money if you have too, I know it's not right but if it means getting him home safe and away from them it's a small price to pay.Last edited: 2015-01-07 00:17:59 by ellejay

- Sara be careful tomorrow . Take extra back up so they can sit back afar and wait for outcome. When our boy was taken he was put up for sale on gumtree, the people who had him were not very nice people who lived In squalor of a house, but we took 6 other family members who sat in cars round a side road incase things got nasty . Unfortunatly for us the police didn't help us at all, but if you say it's the travellers site DO inform police and say you are going there and would like back up as you think they have your dog.... Fingers crossed its s good outcome.

- Sara, my friend has a Shi Tzu and they are quite tough little dogs. Added to that they have very appealing faces that few can resist. Hopefully someone has him safe and will get him scanned very soon. As soon as you get a sighting, may I suggest using Jenny and Tiga (http://www.k9tracker.co.uk/) as they are absolutely brilliant at tracking down missing dogs. Now that you are on this site, you'd be amazed how far Teddy's image will get shared.Last edited: 2015-01-04 17:18:38 by alikat

- Only just seen this (via FB as Ellejay is a friend). As others have said, postering is definitely the way to go. Also when you get the business cards then give them out to everyone you see - not just dog owners. When we were searching for my sister's missing cat last year we accosted everyone we saw. My nieces were a little embarrassed to start with, but we got chatting to most people who were sympathetic and promised to look out for Tinkie (who was reunited!) - if people meet you then they'll remember a real family missing their dog. Shame that he slipped his collar - will be hard for people to get hold of him - but at least if they have a card they can call you straightaway and you can turn up with a slip lead for him. Good luck, hoping he's home soon.

- Thanks again for all your continued support teddy still missing . Alikat sadly we didn't no about this site . Millys mum - his regular place for walks was Kelsey park been there loads of times since . I have ordered some business size cards - also been into the pub as suggested - also been out today and put up another 50 plus leaflets . I have been to queens mead several times and had a good look around the river area but still nothing but thank you for the great tips - hopefully with the routines etc getting back to normal for that one phone call .

- Such a shame there was a 10 day delay between Teddy going missing and his being registered on here, but at least he is microchipped. I hope he will be found soon.
- 2015-01-04 10:27 ellejay
- So sorry just seen this, I am local also so will keep my eys peeled and spread the word. I have many dog owner friends who go walking round near short lands so will inform them.
Have you been checking the free ad sites like gumtree and preloved incase someone has put him on there as found ,?
Get posters up around local parks as he could be hiding during day and come out at night. Get posters up in beckenham place park as that's large enough for a dog to hide. The more posters everywhere the better chance of him being found they really are key to get him home safe and sound. Do you have Facebook ? If yes get a page made for him and we can share it around, make more people aware.
I will do my very best to make him known in beckenham, let's get him to hot to handle so if anyone does have him it will be hard to keep him xx - 2015-01-02 19:46 Millys Mum
- Sara - hopefully now with Christmas and New Year behind us, people will be getting back to their normal routines and you will receive that oh so important call. Where is Teddy normally walked? You've probably already done it, but make sure you check out Queen's Mead Recreation Ground near Shortlands station and the Shortlands parade of shops. And especially check all along the culverted River Ravensbourne that runs through the park. Also Baggy Dog, another of our Helpers advises that you produce business card sized details and contact numbers. That way, when someone sees Teddy or hears of someone who has recently acquired a small dog, they will have your telephone numbers to hand, rather than having to return to one of Teddy's missing posters. Also, you could ask the Jolly Woodman pub in Chancery Lane, Beckenham to display a poster as it's a very dog-friendly pub and the family, who run it, very nice. Obviously I don't know how many posters you have put up but we normally suggest 100 for starters and more, if possible. Good Luck for this weekend.

- I'm so sorry to hear that Teddy is still missing. I live local to you (close to the Chinese Garage) and so will keep my eyes peeled and ears open. I presume you have contacted SDK Environmental, Bromley Council's contracted-out dog warden service. Also all local vets, including Foxgrove Road (who may also be Teddy's vet). They offer 24/7 emergency cover and are always happy to display a poster. I saw Teddy's Missing Poster in the newsagents in the Park Langley parade, which will be seen by local people, dog-owners and park users.

- There was a dog found in BR2 (looked like Teddy from the photo). Finder re-united the found dog with owner - I asked if it was Teddy, but finder said " the owner (by pure chance) was walking round to all the open vets to see if they had seen him, and came in while I had him in there to search for a chip" ... so not too sure if this was a match or if Teddy is still missing.
I tried to call contact number above, but just ringing out - 2015-01-01 08:05 Bella
