"he was a Romanian street dog, who had only been in his new home a short while when he escaped, he is used to the freedom to roam and is not happy being in an enclosed space with humans, so a free running sanctuary with other dogs around him, is a much better option for him"

SAFE – NERO/FRANK a Romanian rescue who escaped from his home in Birmingham on New Years Eve 2014, when he was spooked by a firework and jumped his owner’s fence. His owner Mary contacted us at the time and spent a year desperately looking for him, arranging search parties every night with friends and family, putting posters up and trying to track him with the help of local organisations. But given that Nero was diagnosed with ‘heart worm’ it was considered, after 12 long painful months and no sightings that he had passed away.
Then 4 weeks ago somebody recognised a dog named Frank on a Facebook post and informed his owner that they believed it could be Nero – Nero had travelled 17 miles to Coundon where he had lived as a stray for 4 years!
Unfortunately, having finally found where Nero/Frank had been living, his situation became desperate as the area is to be built on. Ground works had already started and we were informed the main construction workers were due on site imminently. So a plan was made to transfer him to a free running sanctuary in Lincolnshire, where he could also be treated for his heartworm. His owner decided the kindest thing for Nero was to have him darted to avoid the distress of trapping him and handling him. So with a vet in attendance, Frank was successfully darted with Neil there to feed him, and a Health & Safety Officer from Bellway Homes ensured we had access to the necessary areas.
Frank/Nero is now settling into his new life at The Alternative Animal Sancturary.

Special thanks to housebuilders Bellway for giving us 2 days access by delaying fencing the area where Frank came to feed, to the wonderful local people of Coundon who have cared for Frank so well for 4 years, feeding him and leaving out blankets etc, particulary Serina, Nadine and her husband, and Neil and his dog Leia, who we have worked with to get Frank safe and in the warm for this winter.

Another possible sighting in the Kings Norton area not too far from previous 3 possible sightings. Leaflets and posters up today. This area has been postered and leafletted including schools 3 times. Despite Dogs Home telling me when I visited and telling you, Jayne, the Dog warden said Dogs Home is aware of Nero and a poster is up in the corridor where they take the dogs in. I have registered him there in the beginning but they have told me he has to be registered every month. I am going down every week to check dogs.

Jayne - Head office.....I added Nero to Birmingham dogs home last night who knew nothing of him, they have also suggested that their rehoming centre be called so that Nero can be added to their lostdog database, hope this helps

I don't think the markings are quite right on the face but please check:
Middlesbrough Dog Wardens trapped this dog (safely and in forecasted temperatures above zero) following reports that it was living feral in the countryside near Nunthorpe. The dog timid and shy was transported to Waterfall Kennels. On entering the kennels the dog drank an entire bowl of water and settled happily into its new environment. If you have lost this dog call Middlesbrough Council on 01642 726001 quoting reference no 9935.

Owner has informed us that there was a possible sighting 10 days ago in Hawkesley near Kings Norton. If you are local to this area please keep your eye out for Nero. Please phone the numbers on this post if you see him and best not to approach Nero as he is really nervous Rescue dog and will probably run away x

A dog looking like Nero was found in Druids Heath so we don't know if it was him who was sighted now. Another sighting at South Bromsgrove Weds Feb 12th after Bromsgrove Advertiser ran a follow up on his story so posters were put in all shop windows in the area. Can everyone please share his page FIND NERO

Nero was ( we think) seen in Walkers Heath and Druids Heath areas also Solihull Lodge. A scent trail was laid and feed station set up but Nero was not caught on night vision camera.

We think the dog sighted 3 times over the past few weeks is Nero. Have set up a feed station and will monitor via night camera. Will update when any more news.

The sighting at Cofton Park may of been another lost dog in the area. Nero may be in Rea valley heritage trail park as this is his usual park and very close to home
