- Dear Friends, It's with sad and heavy hearts that we have to report that Elsie and Darcy were found today. It was not the joyful reunion we were hoping for though. In a tragic accident they both drowned in a garden swimming pool that had fallen into disuse and was more like a woodland pond, but with no means of escape. As you can imagine, we are devastated, never expecting such tragic news. Elsie and Darcy were born in the same llitter on 29th July 2011 and lived, ate, walked, played and slept together ever since. If one had survived the other the survivor would surely have sufferred unbearable anguish, so for them to be taken together was the one small blessing in this sorry tale. We have brought them home where they lie tonight in their bed together, and will say goodbye in the morning. Thank you for all your advice, efforts and comfort in the past 10 days. We'ver been amazed and blessed by all the support, from people we know and strangers alike. Thank you too to those who admnister doglost.co.uk. What a great help it is in these emergencies where treasured pets stray.

- Have printed up lots of posters and made some with a larger picture too, for putting along faster roads. Iv put up a few last night but will do more today and have also given several to our friends to put in their local areas. We really hope you get some good news soon.
- 2015-01-10 00:14 Owen
- That does help, thanks. We stay positive in hope they will turn up. Sure, please do put posters up, seems the best way to reach out. Thanks again.
- 2015-01-09 22:56 Emily and Tony
- We are so sad to see your beautiful girls are still missing, we are constantly on the lookout for them. We live on the tilford road and travel down to churt each day to fields where we have horses, and also to lots of different dog walking areas. If you would like us to, we can print some posters and put them up along these routes, and any other journeys we do?
2 years ago we found a lurcher who had been missing for several days, after chasing something at hankley common. She was too scared for us to catch her, but we saw a poster and contacted the owner who came immediately. He was amazed that she was still in the same area, and that she was so well when he finally got her back. I hope this helps you to stay as positive as possible, we are thinking of you and your family and praying that you soon have your girls home where they belong.
- 2015-01-08 22:54 Unknown
- I know its not ideal weather but have you thought of a bbq in area with lots of smelly bacon etc...........but to be honest they will catch plenty of rabbits xx
- 2015-01-08 17:25 Susie & Tom
- Keep up the good work Owen. I completely understand what you and your family must be going through. I lost an 8 month old pup for 24 hours after being clipped by a car and it was torture. I've got a batch of posters in my car and will put some more out tomorrow.
Another tip I read on dog lost was that dogs in hiding seem to appear at dawn or dusk, probably not easy to look at these times if you have to work, but worth thinking about. - 2015-01-08 09:24 cheryl&peter
- Up river then could include back of Hankley Common, Brook, Tilford, Godalming etc. but there are a lot of puddles and even the bunkers and greens on the golf course have standing water, which makes me hope they may not have strayed too far.
- 2015-01-07 22:33 Owen
- Hi all. Thanks for input.
Had intended to contact local papers and will do so ASAP.
Have put posters up as far as haslemere, Churt, headley, grayshott so have a large area covered. Scenting we have done too, clothes etc
Good point on water, will look into this.
Vets, wardens, kennels all have been notified.
Thanks again, suggestions on here have been v helpful. We so want them back. - 2015-01-07 21:18 sheltielover
- Please use posters liberally everywhere you can, this is the only way to make people aware - you need a thousand eyes watching for their movement. Print as many posters as you can, get them to the postal delivery persons, the newsagents who deliver papers, the schools, pet shops, this has worked very well in finding lost dogs - especially in an environment like Hindhead. Make sure the Police, Dog Wardens, Pounds, Vets, Dog groomers, etc get one. Wear underwear and socks continuously for 24hrs, place them in a plastic bag and leave them near where they were last seen. Put a sign up requesting people not to move them - they are there for a special reason. Owen - it is going to be hard work to get them back, they are now on survival mode. Google the area - look for the nearest water source - they will need water before food. They will not travel down river , they travel against the flow - up river. They will find plenty of rabbit and other small animals and will survive while the temperature stays mild.

- Hi cheryl&peter thanks for the post. Good idea re poster at Tesco and "night water" has been used in the past. If Darcy and Elsie have travelled further afield by crossing either of the Churt or Tilford Roads I think it would be good to poster further. I see there are posters at the entrance to the woods. However if it hasn't already been done the Vets in Beacon Hill is a good place to poster, plus the Golf Club at Hindhead as this is next to the woods. Jayces in the village might oblige too with displaying a poster.

- Hi Susie&Tom
Good point, i gave Tesco Weyhill a poster which they have put on their community board, happy to do more at the weekend, please let us know what else we can do to help.
Re the scenting also a good idea to do something more basic, I think the polite phrase is 'night water.'
- 2015-01-07 16:56 Susie & Tom
- Hi Owen having read all the posts below, it seems that there have been no sightings since they entered the thicket on Friday 2 Jan. I am wondering if they have moved further afield trying to make their way home and thought perhaps an ad in the Haslemere/Farnham Herald might help especially if they have moved out of the area where the posters are displayed. Have you left your scent in the area where you last saw them. I have read on dog lost about people leaving an item of clothing or some of the contents of the vacuum cleaner in an attempt to keep the dog in the area. I will of course continue to look out for them and do hope that they will be home very soon.

- Morning, sorry to see the girls still missing. As you know we back onto the woods and when I was letting the puppy out at 4am this morning we could hear dogs barking, sounded like it was coming from the back of eight acres, we think somebody feeds the foxes in their garden but it wasn't foxes barking. You have my number give me a call.
We also walked round the wild bits at the back of the golf course calling them yesterday but didn't hear anything.
- 2015-01-03 22:31 Owen
- They ran into a thicket, presumably following sight or scent of a deer. We were walking with another dog walker and a lurcher. The lurcher ran off with them but returned within seconds, Elsie and Darcy on the other hand did not. It's not unusual for them to disappear for several minutes, bit on this occasion they did not.
- 2015-01-03 22:27 Owen
- Elsie and Darcy disappeared in the woods just north of the junction of Green Lane and Old Barn Lane, Churt,
- 2015-01-03 21:52 Unknown
- go back to where you lost them and do some scenting .also take some smelly food, ie sardines etc hope they get home soon xx'

- Can you tell us exactly where they want missing and what happened. So hope you are reunited very soon. Where exactly were they last seen?? Xx
- 2015-01-03 19:42 Owen
- Thanks all. We have put posters up so yes, hoping someone may have seen something and will get in touch. Both dogs are from tree tops so chipped to here. Last seen in woodland around tilford road yesterday morning, please help to get the word out
- 2015-01-03 18:30 Susie & Tom
- Hello Owen sorry to see Darcy & Elsie are missing. I don't know you personally but have passed you and your dogs many times in "the woods" Have you put some posters up yet as there are a lot of people that walk their dogs in these woods and it would help spread the word that they are missing. I am happy to put some up in the area if you need help. I see that the dogs are microchipped, but have you tried Tree Tops Kennels in Guildford to see if they have been handed in (01483 572588) just in case the microchip has migrated or has failed to be picked up by a scanner. Good luck I will look out for them and spread the word.

- Judging by the photo on the Hampshire site, The 2 found at Southampton are much bigger than a Whippet, longer coated & one is black.

- Picture on DosLost Hampshire of two Wippets found at Ford Est - matching pair of dogs - these could be the ones. I hope so.
