- Don't panic!! When Bassets take off after a target, or on a scent, eventually it ends, and the hound backtracks. So note where your LOVELY boy went off and even if you can't follow, leave an item of clothing where he was last seen because he may well return to it, if he can't actually return home which if he knows the area, he may well do. I hope he'll be back within hours which he more than likely will be.
