UPDATE posted on fb:

"You can imagine, finding this dog has been a very difficult yet rewarding experience. We literally have had thousands of calls, texts and messages declaring ownership for the dog....
AVDC dog warden intervened....through "Dog lost" possible owners were found....my husband and I felt that it was best to hand the responsibility to the Dog warden...we have been told...
last night the dog warden was provided unquestionable evidence of ownership by the rightful owners of Stan who had been missing for exactly a year.....the dog warden confirmed that this dog had been out for a considerable time, and and was not a recent stray....The dog was malnourished, had mange, and muscle wastage and our priority was to get the dog medical attention.
We have only been told that "Stan" is with his legal owners and we know no more than this!
It was not our job to decide on who he belonged to,so we left it firmly with the Dog warden.
If you ever find yourself in a similar situation...I strongly recommend you go to the dog warden
We have since made contact with bedfordshire police and Thames valley police to provide all the information we have.
It's been truly heartbreaking to receive so many messages from people adamant that this was their dog...we were trying to do our very best for an animal that was very poorly....once again we would like to thank everyone for your support love and care for "Stan"
If anyone has any further questions we urge you to contact Bedfordshire police or the Dog warden"
Well done to them and I hope that Stan eventually makes a full recovery now that he is back home with his family.

Absolutely delighted Stan is home again.I watched the story unfold on FB and very well done finder firstly for getting him to safety and then for refusing to hand him over to any of the many claimants until Dog warden was able to be contacted.A lesson to be learnt here.

I hope that the people who sent nasty messages to the person who initially questioned whether that bloke who claimed to be the owner really was, might not be so hasty to criticise someone next time.......Last edited: 2015-02-09 14:45:52 by reilly

So pleased the finders helped this sweet soul. Well done for getting the dog warden involved when things became so complex. Praying that we hear he is reunited soon. If he's been missing for a year owners will be so happy to have him back. Praying that this page turns to blue very soon and media get to know his story, perhaps more people will be aware of what the dog world can be like.

I am no fan of travellers, I can assure you. However just because this guy is from that community, that does not mean that this isn't his dog. It is, as has been said, all a bit of a mess, and I hope that it's sorted out asap either way. On the upside this poor chap would clearly have suffered terribly were it not for the kindness of finders - here's hoping he recovers quickly and is home, somewhere, very soon.
Lorn
The main thing is the dog is safe, but the person claiming the dog had 900 + people believe his story. Proof of ownership a must 👍

Post from finder Hello everyone,
As you can imagine today has been very busy we received many claims of ownership for this dog!!!!The dogs health and wellbeing was paramount to us from the moment it was found!!
he is very poorly! We have spent the afternoon in contact with many "doggy agencies" this has resulted in intervention from AVDC dog warden
The warden believed the dog has been out for weeks and not just days
Many thanks to everyone for sharing, and for your concerns the dog is now somewhere safe where it will be looked after xx
skyninchar
Thank god the finder did the right thing and didnt hand over the poor mite, hopefully his true owner can now be traced x
BBKM
I am so pleased many of you on here and fb feel the same as me. I was really concerned and could not comment on fb due to privacy settings.

Christopher Fitzgerald seems to be a liar and has tried to claim lots of found dogs.

I am so pleased this beautiful boy is safe and being looked after. Sending him healing thoughts for a full and speedy recovery xxxLast edited: 2015-02-08 22:32:55 by BBKM

Has this poor dog been handed over then? Lets hope not and hope he hasnt got the other one aswell.
Kat
Fitzgerald has posted 2 photographs. The photograph witb 2 dogs laying down does not natch this dog. Very concerned as he also appears to be a youth.
Leggitsmum
I'm following a very hot debate on Find Harvey over this and have checked out Christophers FB page, apparently he has tried to claim dogs before. What a mess x
NicM
I am concerned about the "owner" who has come forward and share the same worries as others about his background and motives. I hope he is not handed the dog without proof and am also concerned about the other dog.
mathers22
I've read on facebook that this dog has been reunited - was the second to be found of two that went missing together x
debbie
Well I did think he was the owner due to the pic of 2 dogs and the story but have just looked at the groups he likes and I am very concerned x
Wibble
Should be handed to the wardens, at least they will be able to check ownership. Would hate to think of him being given to the wrong owner too...
Carol
I feel the same about Christopher Fitzgerald as well xxx
nic
Have just registered as i had the same concerns as Bazil after checking facebook profile of Christopher Fitzgerald.
cookie
warden is collecting dog so if no chip he will go to pound at least theres a chance of finding his proper owner n not some wanna be owner
BBKM
I have been reading the comments on fb and i think this dog is not Christopher Fitzgerald's dog. The markings look different. The finder needs to see proof of ownership and more than a photograph. I have looked at his fb wall and can see no pics of his dogs?
Very concerned. Last edited: 2015-02-08 20:19:12 by BBKM

Lovely of finder to do the right thing...Hopefully will be a happy reunion, the person below had two dogs go missing, one turned up this morning, and hopefully this one x
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I have spoken to finder, he is still trying to verify who the owner is. They have been innundated with calls. Someone is coming to see the dog. He will get the dog scanned for a chip though before it is handed over, or it will go to the dog warden.
skyninchar
Christopher Fitzgerald .... He is our dog he's name is Joey he's been missing since Thursday morning thank you everybody who shared the photo of him to help us find him
