- We also need to rule out the possibility of the owner having gone missing.

- We have not been able to trace the 2 male walkers who picked up this dog. The walker who gave me the info told me that had been trying to call the landline number the dog had on his collar. No reply but they left messages. I have asked Riverlady to put this on twitter. We need to locate both the dog and the owner. If the walkers managed to reunite the dog, fine. If not we would like to help.

- I am not moving this one to blue until I have confirmation from Kinder Mountain Rescue that dog and owner are reunited. There may be some confusion as another dog was found and reunited earlier. I have been talking with the rescue team member who registered the dog with us and will update when I know more. The area has been searched repeatedly by 3 rescue teams with SARDA dogs in case owner has fallen somewhere, but they have found no one so far. So at present it is a case of "watch this space". - Wonderful news.

- It has just been posted on Kinder mountain rescue FB page that the dog is safe. The person who posted says he spoke to 2 walkers who found the dog and took him back to Edale. They rang a landline number on the dog's tag and left a message with contact details.

- Further to my Mountain Rescue Team carrying out a search for a potential dog owner in difficulty, late afternoon/evening of Sunday 8th February (nothing found), it's been suggested by people that we provide you with what little information we have about the dog involved (still believed to be running about on top of Kinder Scout mountain) here in the Northern area of the Peak District, with a view to you putting details on your great site and hopefully someone will recognise it as their dog.
The circumstances are that multiple walkers/climbers reporting seeing a Black and White Spaniel running around near the top of the Kinder Downfall waterfall on Kinder Scout, on Sunday 8th Feb. No one was able to coax nor secure the dog and it refused to leave the immediate area - and hence why concern was then raised in case it's owner had perhaps fallen (possibly over the cliff edge) and the dog was staying there out of loyalty. A search for any injured owner was then mounted by one of our own SARDA search dog team members in the area leading up the Kinder River and immediately below the waterfall.. Conditions near the waterfall proved far too dangerous though (deep snow and masses of ice) and the search dog team was recalled. (Our own search dog was also the worse for wear, with ice wedged between claws and around her pads - though a bath apparently sorted her out but she still has very sore pads now).
As I said - there is so little information to go on - we don't even know if it was a Springer or Cocker type spaniel people had seen.
Various other people have since also asked if we could return onto the mountain and put out a humane trap to try and secure the poor dog - but this is not something we can do (not least of which due to all the other public dogs (and farmer's working dogs) that run around up there, plus sheep and other local wildlife, and the fact the National Trust would simply not allow us to do this). We have also had to recommend that members of the public do not go up there themselves, due to the current full winter conditions and many of the deep groughs also now have dams holding back water - all of which are covered with deep snow and ice. The risk of someone breaking through the ice and getting stuck is very high.
Not sure what you might be able to do to publicise this poor dog's situation, but maybe someone watching your site may recognise the details and location and tie it up with an owner.
