HAVE YOUR SAY
An urgent appeal has been issued by the RSPCA after an injured dog was found in Barnsley - severely matted and suffering from a large open wound on its neck.
The young, cream-coloured female dog was cowering under a car when she was spotted by a member of the public on Bradberry Balk Lane, Wombwell, Barnsley, on February 18.
The local dog warden was called out to the ‘cockapoo’ type dog as a stray, but contacted the RSCPA when they saw the state of the animal’s wounds.
RSPCA inspector Keira Benham said: “I met the dog warden at the vets and was shocked by what I saw. We deal with some awful cases in this job but the state of this poor girl really upset me me.
“She was badly matted with a very nasty open wound on her neck, which was obviously causing her pain, possibly as a result of a tether. Despite all this though she was still really friendly.
“She underwent surgery on Thursday, she’s been clipped and the wound stitched up, and it went well so I’m hopeful she’ll make a full recovery but of course we’ll have to see how she gets on.”
The owner cannot be tracked because the dog wasn’t microchipped or wearing a collar or ID tag.
Mr Benham added: “I want to hear from anyone who recognises this dog and can tell me who her owner is. - 2015-02-22 17:00 Angel
- Karma will out, alas and alack. It's neither here nor there really but from what I can see of her manky coat, I don't think she is a Bichon, maybe a cross, just in case she was origianly stolen. Sending you lots of healing little one x Last edited: 2015-02-22 17:02:40 by Angel

- What a terrible life for this young girl. Must be someone in the area who knows where she lived. Her coat is very long for her breed. Neck lacerations and turned gangrene absolutely disgusting! Hope they do find her owner and they prosecuted but I dont think she will be m/chipped to find x

- From a member: Just got call from dog warden in Barnsley... She has been found and is between 9 and 12 months old... She had been outside fir approx three months and had been tethered up hence the deep lacerations on her neck.. The wound had turned gangrenous.. She was dehydrated and severely malnourished .. They have operated and she will be sedated again today to be groomed etc... She is poorly but WILL survive!!! However the dog warden has said that if they find who the owners were they will be prosecuted.. If anyone hears anything please contact dog warden on .... She us being well looked after and myself and another dog lover are hoping to go visit her next week... The lady from the bichon site is keen to adopt her and give her a forever home... Hopefully this will happen xxx
