- Thank you Anna for finding him and making sure he was safe. The poor old man, I keep coming back to Teddy (much nicer than Axel)as I feel so sad that he wasn't loved when he needed it most. I'm the same as BMdevon, I'd get all the oldies out of kennels and make a lovely home for them for as long as they could enjoy life. God speed x

- How sad. Night, might, Axel. sleep tight, and be a young pup again at the bridge. At least you were loved at the end, and you will be loved again in your forever home. Your owners who didn`t you back; shame on them. RIP+ God blessX A~~~Candle@~~~burns for you. Eun free sweetheartxxx

- He wasn't well fed he was very underweight I could fit my hand right round his waist, and his coat was a matted smelly mess, we found him wandering the main road at early hours of the morning whilst walking our dogs. I think he could have been dumped or gotten out of where he was staying. Even if the owners where found they shouldn't have had him back as they May have loved him, but unfortunately didn't care for him properly. Such a shame for him he was so sweet, but he's in a better place where no harm will ever come to him and he will be loved for ever. Rip axcel (teddy) as I named him xx

- I agree with the previous comment. We do not know the circumstances, and it may well be that for some reason they couldn't take care of this boy any more. He certainly looked well fed and cared for and someone had hopefully loved him all his long life. Please give these people the benefit of the doubt. However, I am so very sorry, and pleased that he was loved for the final days of his life - many thanks to Susan and Pendle Dogs in Need. Run free at the bridge, beautiful boy xxxx Last edited: 2015-03-15 23:33:13 by digbysmum

- This has really upset me. However, we don't know the circumstances so perhaps the owners hadn't had him long. Perhaps it could have been an elderly relative passing on etc and family taking on the dog, which happened with a work colleague. She thought she could cope with her dad's old boy but didn't have an attachment to him so when he was incontinent in both ways she just had him despatched. If I won the lottery I'd take all the oldies and they'd be so loved before they passed over :(

- What a lovely old boy, I find it heartbreaking at the callousness of some people, how can they treat what was a family member like that, I hope they share the same feelings at some point in their lives maybe when they're old, alone and hopefully rejected....I treasure the old ones, they are so special.

- I don't understand how people can discard a dog just 'cos he's old. Poor old boy. At least you had comfort at the end, and now you're free of pain. RIP, Axel.

- What a tragic end to what was probably a horrible life. Poor poor baby he deserved so much more. His so-called owners need fining and locking up! RIP beautiful Axel 💔

- What truly horrible miserable excuses for people the original owners must be. I just hope they cared about him a little more throughout his life than they did at the end, when he needed them the most. Thank god for rescues and fosterers who can at least give a tiny bit of comfort. RIP sweet old man. x

- Susan, thank you for being there with him and showing him in his last hours that people do care. A lot of others were there with you in spirit, because the people on here and those that follow numerous dog lost pages trying to help dogs find their humans (or a loving home) - would never have left any dog to go to Rainbow Bridge feeling unloved and unwanted.
- 2015-03-15 16:29 Annymh
- I know we shouldn't pre-judge and we don't know the circumstances. But this poor dog had given circa 15 years of his life to people who didn't have the heart to care how he left this world. In my humble opinion they should never own another dog, they don't deserve one. Thanks indeed to the lovely Susan, I hope his so called owners see this and feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves.Last edited: 2015-03-15 16:31:13 by Annymh

Run free at the Bridge and sweet dreams AXEL
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... - 2015-03-15 15:30 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West

**** Sad News ***
Axel the old lad from the dog pound has had to be put to sleep. We took him to the vets this morning and he had too many issues: pain, disorientation, infected teeth, incontinence, impaired sight, possibly a problem with his brain and motor function. He had no quality of life and was struggling, It just wasn't fair to keep him holding on. But his last night was full of warmth and love and kindness, thanks to a lovely lady called Susan who fostered him for us and held him on her lap while he drifted away. I honestly don't know what we would do without such wonderful foster carers.
Run free old fella x - 2015-03-13 19:20 collieowner
- Followed this through and he is now in the care of a rescue and in a foster home as owners decided they didn't want him. What is the world coming to? Hope he has love and care now for the rest of his days.
