Good news! Thanks to everyone on Fbk and our dog Warden we have found Shadow's owner. With a little assistance from me Shadow has been taken home this evening.
Thanks Bubbles .. would you take the ad down from Gumtree now as Shadow is home. Thanks.

What a sad story, I hope he is back with his owner shortly and shame on the person who was supposed to be looking after this lovely boy.

When I read about this poor dog waiting for his owner, I placed an ad on Gumtree for TN38 area in lost and found pets. I hope it helped to reunite Shadow with his owner

Shadow is fine. Think you can tell by the post below that our DW fell for him!

Thanks bdurrant. I have just checked with the Dog Warden and it seems it is Shadow. Hopefully he will be home with his owner tomorrow as he returns tonight and Shadow is in kennels now.

Update fm DW: "I have just spoken to Shadows owner, we don't know the full story yet, however I can say that he trusted someone with the care of his beloved pet!! Ive given him the number to call to claim him back, fingers crossed, I will update later when I know more, thank you everyone for sharing, without this he would have arrived home tonight to no Shadow"

After a call to our local Dog Warden this lovely dog was taken in by them. This is the post put on by them:
"I was called out after 10pm last night to a dog that had been found tied up by the out of hours dentist staff at THE ARTHUR BLACKMAN CLINIC, BATTLE RD, HOLLINGTON, ST LEONARDS ON SEA just as they were about to lock up for the night.
When I arrived the staff told me that this boy was convinced his owner was coming back for him, and was looking into the clinic, so they searched inside just incase there was still someone in there but unfortunately there wasnt!!
As you can see from these pics, he was still desperately looking for his owner to return right up until he was onboard my van!!!
Does anyone recognise this dog? He is a small lab x collie type who is very well mannered and seems well cared for, and obviously trusted that his owner would return for him .... Heartbreaking!!!" "Hard to age as I did it in the dark but guessing 8 years, will have another look later, teeth looked like an older dog but immaculate!"

Someone must own this lovely boy.
Does anyone know someone missing this dog? An elderly person perhaps?
