Hello Bantry, my special mate. I tried a couple of weeks ago to write, and didn't get very far. There were too many distractions, and I wanted to give you my total attention. But even six years since I last saw you, I still think of you every day - and I am not the only one.

Cinnamon, gold,
Earth and wind,
Your face, your silk, your speed, your,
Your intrepidity

The back of your head Just William Brown
Your upward glance a trusting saint
You were the friend brought me out from the tunnel
You took me to nearby places

Thank you always, my super little lad. Have fun; and never forget you are loved.

Five years it's been now, my little friend. The world has suddenly turned rather strange, but the sun is shining and we were thinking of you, and standing with you in your special place. I can still literally *feel* you, with my hands and my face, and I suppose that's never going to change now. Amazing, isn't it! We carry those we have lost, in both our minds and in our senses, forever. And that's how it is that I can think of you with a smile on my face. That's something I do most days, even if I only write here once a year. So thank you lovely Bantry, and never doubt the love that we will always feel towards you, and because of you. God bless you always, golden dog, special lad!

Hello, Bantry! It's four years now since I last saw you, but there's still a big smile on my face whenever I think of you - there are wonderful things that time's passage can never change. You are always in our thoughts, so that adds up to a lot of happiness. Of course I cannot write these words without a few tears, but we humans always were a bit daft like that. Lots of people were talking about you today, and no-one has forgotten the fun you brought. Lots of love to you always, sweet Banto! Thank you forever for being our chum.

Your third anniversary today, sweet special lad. I said a few words to you where you lie, and you won't be surprised to hear that you are as bright a presence to us now as ever you were. Your spirit enlivens us and brings happiness, and all the wonderful memories of our time together. You reminded us how love felt, and I want to tell you I still feel it now, and always will. Love to you always, beautiful Bantry! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Paul
I've been thinking of you a lot this week, Bantry. Next week I will be sprucing up your special corner, and thinking of you some more. You will always live in our hearts, most special of friends, and as the pain subsides it becomes even easier to enjoy our time together. Thank you for so much joy, then, now, and always! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Paul
Your first anniversary has been and gone, but no-one has forgotten you little lad, golden friend. We never will. Thank you for all the happiness you brought. Love to you always, sweet Banto! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sara
Thanks everyone. Your comments are a huge comfort. Other terrier owners might be interested to know that Bantry was found on Friday, 20 March at about 6.30am by railway workers in bushes 100m North of Crofton Park station (https://goo.gl/maps/Uoyw9), some 3 miles away from where he was last seen on the wood side of Beckenham Place Park at 2.15pm the day before. Lord knows what wonderful tantalising scent he caught but let's hope no other dogs get seduced to such a degree. RIP little lad x

I'm so sorry to read the sad news about Bantry and, as 3labs has said, he certainly would have received the best possible care whilst at the Royal Veterinary College. Thinking of his owners. Rest in peace little one xx

I am so sad for you, Bantry looks a dear little dog. I live near the Royal Vet College and have been there countless times with my dogs and they have shown nothing but care and compassion. I am sure he was peaceful and pain free at the end and wonderfully cared for. Xxx
Caroline

Wishing you a speedy recovery Bantry. You can make it little man!

Couldn't agree more Paul! hope all go's well with Bantry and he recovers well from this accident.

If dog's didn't accidentally go missing, Doglost wouldn't exist would it ! A bit of compassion towards what Bantry's owners are going through, would go a very long way! xLast edited: 2015-03-23 09:31:44 by Shereen

@Jo Glos - please think carefully before you use this forum to say this kind of thing. You have not said anything we didn't already know, and somewhere out there lives a distraught, guilt-ridden, caring, and loving owner who thought they could not feel any worse at a time like this. Thanks to you, they just did.
Stay strong, beautiful Bantry! You are a Terrier!

Poor dog..what a horrendous trauma. This isn't a case of damn trains though. The world can't stop running for the sake of dogs..as much as that would be ideal for some..but please keep dogs safe near roads and railways. Keep them on leads so they can't get into a dangerous situation in the first place...for their sake just look after them in built up busy areas. Heartbreaking for this dog. Britain cannot fence its entire road and rail system, it is down to owners to keep them safe and out of danger. Please keep them on leads. So upset about this dog.Last edited: 2015-03-22 20:35:49 by Jot cotswolds

If Bantry is at the Royal Vet College in Potters Bar South Mimms then he is surely in good hands. Keeping everything crossed for you all xx
Sara
Thank you all. The dog community is so amazing! Bantry is doing remarkably well considering the extent of his injuries (not just his leg unfortunately). He's in intensive care at the Royal Vet College and has just come through surgery. The vets are really surprised he's made it this far and say he is being a tenacious and tough terrier.

Still a long way to go and risk of complications but for now he is a miracle dog.
digbysmum
Damn trains. I am so pleased that dear Bantry has been found - sending healing thoughts -it's amazing how dogs can cope with only three legs. He was a lucky boy, things could have been a lot worse. Please keep us updated xxx
Viv B
I am so sorry to hear this - I do hope he he recovers very soon.
Millys Mum
Oh dear, poor Bantry. I do hope he makes a good recovery. I always worry about the railway line when dogs go missing from Beckenham Place Park. The fencing gives the false impression that dogs are safe but there are many holes where wildlife have dug a pathway under the fence or local yobbos/idiots have removed railings or prised them apart to play chicken on the railway lines! I've known of several dogs over the years who have fallen prey to the railway and so it's certainly not somewhere I would allow our dogs off lead and so please be careful (and anyone else who's reading this). Hoping Bantry recovers from his ordeal - poor little lad.Last edited: 2015-03-22 12:26:09 by Millys Mum

I live round the corner from bbp. Will spread the word.

Can you get a poster in the Foxgrove pub at the back of the park. postering is key to getting him home safe. There is also a shih tzu missing in area so let's gets as many posters up and tell local shops and cab firms and get them home.
Cassiec
