The heartbreaking decision that you made was the correct one for Rolo. The dedicated care and compassion by all the staff at the RVC is second to none.
He was loved and in return loved you all. Rolo will never be forgotten and will leave a paw print on all our hearts. RIP Rolo forever young xx

Thanks for putting that on here Spottylove. I was about to do so with a very heavy heart.
I am just please that Rolo was able to go to the beach a couple of days ago but was so sad to read the news today. It goes without saying that his owners did everything and more for the little guy but am sure they have made the right decision however heartbreaking. So sad for Rory & Julie and I hope it will not stop them having another dog in the family when the tears and sorrow have eventually healed.
Run free brave Rolo.

How very sad, and devastating for the owners. They must take comfort in the fact that they gave him the best possible chance of survival and had him with them in a loving environment for the last weeks of his life. I hope they do get another dog and have not been put off dog ownership.

Heartbreaking news. Such a lovely boy, I checked every day on Facebook and had all crossed for his op to go well. I'm sure his short life was very happy with you. I'm glad you had your lovely day at the beach with him, and you had time with him after his accident Im sure he had the best care ever at the RVC, they are wonderful. Always an awful decision to have to make but the kindest, and I'm sure not without much consideration and thought. Lots and lots of love to Rolos family, thinking of you all xxx

Very sad news this morning on Rolo's FB page. Thinking of Rolo's family at this very sad time. God bless Rolo xxxx
To all of Rolo’s friends - We’re afraid that the news is not too good this morning.
Scans yesterday, prior to surgery, revealed that the damage to Rolo’s urinary tract was much greater than thought and much has not repaired. So along side the need to remove his left kidney and ureter, his bladder has not repaired (quite the reverse) and is not functioning/growing. They also identified damage to the ureter above the right kidney. The surgeon at the RVC who has been absolutely fantastic acknowledged that they knew of no surgical intervention that could fix our chap.
I have this morning had to make probably the toughest decision of my life and let Rolo go. To say that we are all devastated would be an understatement. Rolo was our first family dog and to loose him at just 4 1/2 months a cruel blow. Since his accident It has been a month long rollercoaster of emotions, highs, lows, hope and some successes. No matter how painful - we are confident of having made the right decision.
One of the things that has bouyed us up over the last 32 days has been the wave of interest and support, locally where we live, further afield and here on the WCS Page. The ‘likes’, words of support and encouragement have been a constant source of help during a challenging time.
So we would like to say a huge “THANK YOU” to all of Rolo’s friends from Julie, the girls and myself. Once we have a few days/weeks behind us we will consider the way forward, but don’t be too surprised to see a picture of a new arrival in due course and yes of course it will be a WCS!...
Kind Regards and thanks again, Rory & Julie

Rollo couldn't be in a better place! My little Border Terrier had life-saving heart surgery there almost a year ago (aged under two) and it has given her life back. If anyone can make him well again, they can.

He's definitely in the best place. Fleur the BC from Romania was almost dead when she arrived and she is a living and walking miracle. If Fleur can do it I have every confidence in Rolo. Good luck will keep coming back for an update xx

Sending healing thoughts to darling little Rolo. Please get well soon xxxx

I spent a great many years at the RVC and can never speak highly of them enough. Your dog is in exceptionally good hands. Reference your daughter and her SATs please do not worry too much as this is an exam for the schools to test how well they are teaching their pupils and not the child! Everything crossed for Rolo to make as speedy recovery as possible. xxLast edited: 2015-05-12 22:02:39 by ClaireC

It seems although young Rolo has been reunited that he must have been involved in an accident and he is very unwell.
This is the post that his owner put on Fbk today:
"An update from us. Sorry there has been mostly radio silence today. We received a call from the vets in Tun Wells to say that Rolo had been found and was at their emergency centre. After many calls back and forth we then transferred him to the Royal Veterinary College in Potters Bar. We have to keep everything crossed that he will be ok and I hope the omens good: his nurse in TW was called Sian and the practice was run by a Mitchell, along with hearing "things can only get better" on the radio on the way back from school this morning, my boy also has a little white cross on his head, so I like to think that there is someone special watching over him.

The news initially was very bad, and was a painful morning for both of us. However, a little more optimistic when we got to the RVC. He is by no means out of danger and as I type we wait for the phone to ring with an update. He has some bad bruising to his lungs and this makes his breathing difficult, there is damage to kidneys along with a fracture to his back leg. He is going to be in for a while. We said our goodbyes to him and there was a little whimper and a slight wiggle of his coffee frother tail, so he knows we were there. He has had a firm talking to, that he needs to get better and get home to his girls as they miss him and we love him heaps. Rory says if he's going to listen to anyone its me! not sure about that :)

Rory, Sian, Roisin and I have been overwhelmed with support from people we know and people we dont, and cannot begin to thank you all enough for the effort you have put in looking for him, sharing posts and pictures , door knocking and texting friends. I know facebook gets a lot of knocks but at times like this, it really is worth its weight in gold. Strangely, the lady who took him in this morning, was asked yesterday in Brenchley had she seen Rolo.

Our girls are not fully aware of the situation and we would like to keep it that way. We are saying that he is a bit poorly and achey and needs a bit of TLC from special nurses and doctors. Sian has her SATS and is already under a lot of unecessary pressure. We DO NOT want to create any more for her.

Once again, though from all of us, a heartfelt thank you to you all and a lick from our boy when he is better x"

I've everything crossed that this young lad is going to make a full recovery as soon as possible. Just glad that he is back with his family and he is obviously in the best place.
Please get well very soon Rolo.

Keep going back to where you last saw him and leave an item of clothing with your scent on it there. Fingers crossed he's home soon xx
