- love happy endings especially as other horses on doglost have vanished without trace. mystified why a horse would end up in his situation - thickly overgrown area on a bank........ horses like open spaces normally.

- Josh has been found! Beaufort Hunt Secretary, Nigel Maidment`s famous old horse, missing for ten days has been found today.
Despite going completely viral on every form of social media far and wide, Facebook, Twitter, Horse and Hound and the local papers - together with intensive organised search parties across the farm no trace was found of the 28 year old, 17.2 h.h. gelding.
Local farmer`s wife Hayley Godwin was one of those who never gave up and this morning following up a possible lead of "sounds being heard" she returned to a steep and almost impossible to access area which is thickly overgrown on the side of a bank, and to her amazement and utter relief she could just see the old horse standing there trapped, and unable to find his way out. Some heavy work by local farmer Antony Tuck and Guy Bostock clearing the area ensued and after a while it was possible to get into the thickets, turn Josh around and lead him out!
Josh had been retired from hunting this year and was spending his retirement teaching Guy Bostock , husband of Lottie to ride.
A vet has checked over the old horse and apart from a few scratches he is relatively unscathed. Lottie and Guy and the Maidments are thrilled to have him safely back and he is being given five star treatment.
Lottie said " It just goes to show you that not matter how hard and how long you look for there is always a possibility that what you are looking for is potentially right under your nose."
Hayley Godwin said "Just an amazing emotional time to see such a strong willed horse walk free from the bushes and up a steep hill with such a bright eye and looking so well after ten days what a star Josh is ! "

- Just another thought, though probably already been done: have there been, or are there soon to be, any horse sales within a couple of hundred miles? The auctioneers would know of any geldings of the right size, even if his white markings have been obscured. If you have a local branch of HorseWatch, they would probably know. Hope you find him soon.

- Have horse slaughterers and ports been notified? Not a nice thought, but worth checking as a precaution.

- 2015-05-25 21:16 Unknown
- Has anyone contacted the local riding stables to see if anyone has has enquires about stabling a new horse?Remember they can paint out the white flash on his nose xx

- I will ask Lottie to call.
Yesterday Josh's search had numbers of around 40 out looking for him, people on foot, horses, quads. This number enabled a vast area, including ditches, copses etc to be covered but sadly there was no sign. - 2015-05-24 16:23 Hornsby

- Thanks Jenny4 its a really valid point, When I spoke with owners daughter earlier I did say ponds pools water needs checking locally , also the risk of empty properties ie on holiday in case they have swimming pools , which are a risk. I think the search yesterday was very intensive, just want this very special boy found
- 2015-05-24 15:25 Unknown
- Have you any ditches or similar he could be stuck in at all?
- 2015-05-24 12:35 Unknown
- Hooves xd.
- 2015-05-24 11:06 Mollychops
- Thanks for the update on Josh .Its brilliant the amount of support he is getting . I had a chat with his owners daughter earlier. They are so worried as he has a large heart murmour which could affect him badly. There was a theft of a wheelbarrow and fork a short while before Josh disappeared from the same field, which may or may not be a coincidence. Josh is having an enormous amount of media overage, including an article in the current Western Daily Press so Ive bumped his page up. Sending advice sheets as a lot of the tips could be relevant for any animal
- 2015-05-24 10:47 SChurch
- I'm afraid no news. A mass search yesterday unfortunately confirmed our fears of him being stolen

- Could you alter the pics around, it is summer and he will look like the extra image. Sorry but it does look like two different horses. The extra image is more what Josh would look like now. Beautiful looking horse and I hope Josh is found very soon.x

- Yes, both images are Josh the extra image shows more his summer coat. In the first image you are able to see his 'unique' nose.
- 2015-05-23 14:46 Unknown
