Would be lovely to hear how he is now x
susieq666
Just wondered how Jack is doing? Also - any progress on finding the perpetrators? I often think about Jack, not least because I have Jacks, and also he was found in my area.
mathers22
What a little toughie, so pleased he's on the mend after his traumatic ordeal. It would take all my restraint not to rip their heads off if they were ever caught xx

ClaireC
How is Jack doing now please?
NickyB
just sent chunky chq to NDAA(North Devon Animal Ambulance) who played a vital role in saving jacks life.they were on another equally terrible emergency call out in the area - dog attacked by stray lurcher. would love to see a lovely family photo of jogreller and family with a fully recovered jack one day soon.
ClaireC
Thought that he would manage OK. I saw a Whippet when I was in Cornwall last year just absolutely tearing around the beach. It was only when he stopped that you saw he only had 3 legs, 2 at the back and one at the front! Simply amazing and so quick to recover. Good luck to the precious boy xx
Viv B
How lovely to hear that about Jack. So pleased for you.
jogrellier
Just wanted to let you all know Jack is doing absolutely amazing!! He is recovering so well from his op it's astounding :) he and I are so happy to have him home with us and my children are made up he is back safe and well(ish), as you can imagine he has been thoroughly spoilt and had being constantly cuddled and played with he us so happy it's lovely to see :) x
fionap58
Thanks for that update Bobble. Yes I would be VERY suspicious of the van that called the previous day and would have expected the police to at least see if the van had any traces of the dog in it. People can't go around nicking other peoples dogs, causing them harm and getting away with it scot free!
ClaireC
Lovely to read that Jack was coming home today. Good luck dear Jack xx
NickyB
the amazing person who found and helped jack saved his life by the sound of things. thank goodness he/she stopped to help.unbelievable he has survived - some tough little cookie. so happy for him and you.have 3 rescued jack russells myself as I love them so much.
jogrellier
Jack is coming home tomorrow :)
Unknown
Good idea to contact your MP. Tol the person who did this, you are pathetic, and sad. Hope you rot in hell!
NickyB
police are weird - don't want to bother with this awful case, yet rescued the 16 fox cubs (thank heavens) from the middleton hunt kennels this week?????? although none of my little treasures have been the victim of a deranged human 1 jack russel was nearly killed by a large dog. however when I went to collect him 2 days later from the vet he trotted out of the vets minus a lot of hair and with a lot of stitches completely unchsnged by his experience.dogs are soooooo amazing.i hope jack recovers fully and is not altered by this. bless him.so glad he has a family to love him. will look forwsrd to a photo in acouple of weeks
ClaireC
Thanks Bobbie for the update. x

Fiona58, becuase Jo is a decent person, she did not post the full details on here. Basically she had a visit from somone the day before he went missing trying to sell her something "eyes everywhere". Because she was aware of a few problems in her area, she noted the description of the person, his vehicle, even the registration number. The next day one of her dogs is missing. Jo calls the Police. When Jack is found it is on a lonely lane on the other side of Exmoor. It was purely flook that he was found at all and still alive. The person who found him got NDAA involved, the driver of the van was already on an emergency call so asked the kind finder who is the real hero in all this (as well as Jack of course x)if they could take him to the vet hospital that NDAA use and she phoned ahead that he was being brought in. The finder put the blood covered barely alive little dog into his car and drove him to the hospital. The finder also recognised Jack from his DogLost poster and that was how Jo was informed. It took imense courage and determination from Jo to get anywhere with the Police. I have been supporting her throughout anyway I can.

BMdevon I would do the same in your position, I'd really struggle not to turn in and ask for an update. I think it would have been your poster that finder saw?

We all have a part to play in this, sending Jack healing thoughts and prayers, offering support to his family and in the initial spreadig the word and postering that helped.

I am just so grateful that there have been no other reports. But this is also hard for other owners who have lost dogs in the area, vanished without trace so far. They need our support too.

I am contacting my MP (thanks for the suggestion Claire) and will be issuing a report to Somerset Police about their handling of this case. Once I have all the facts and dates. That will be done.

Jack is constantly in my thoughts as is little Merlin who went missing from a few miles away 2 weeks before Jack.Last edited: 2015-06-13 08:00:12 by Bobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex

All the best for your recovery Jack, big hugs. When are we going to change the law in this country to give our 'furry kids' proper protection. They can be stolen, maimed or killed without the police giving a damn, and without any real penalties There are stories all the time that sicken me. How can it be changed?
BMdevon
The police story is highly unlikely - he would have had scuff nail injuries from landing on a road like that. Perhaps there's another explanation. There are wolves at Exmoor Zoo - perhaps one got out and chased and caught him and then managed to get back into the zoo unnoticed... Well, its as likely as the police version of events I think! Little Jack is just up the road from me now and as I go past the vets each day I blow him a little kiss :D I'm a soppy old thing ...
ClaireC
Having read your latest update jogrellier then I think that you should at least make contact with your local MP and inform him of the Sgt's interpretation of events! It is a strong possibility, that as you are a constituent of his, then he will and must try to support you in your quest to get justice for Jack.
Unknown
I am so sorry Jo that the police have been so negative , I wish they had done more but they dont bother with so many crimes these days its sad.......
The main thing is now to concentrate on the future ..... I am pleased to see Jack is doing well love him, animals bounce back so quick..I wish him and your family a wonderful life now an all has to be said about the scum that did this , there will come a time when it will catch up on them and I hope we get to hear about it .Stay safe now Jack , Handsome Boy xxxx
fionap58
I can't see any post re a person calling at your house? Was it in relation to Jack or is it something you can't post on here? I wondered if there was anything we could do to help like find out who this person was and dig up some stuff maybe to go to the police with? If not then I would concentrate on Jack and try and forget the filth that did the deed, he'll get his soon enough....karma is a wonderful thing!
jogrellier
Hi all i have just sent this email to he west somerset free press to thank them gor their support hopefully copying and pasting it to you will also update you all with the latest!! " Just wanted to say a quick thank you for your report on Jack last week and also to thank you for putting the Avon&Somerset page straight on their Facebook report on revive minehead. I struggle to reply to the negative people I keep getting recently as my main priority is Jack and its also very upsetting to think that others feel the "story" was fabricated especially from the police who are supposed to be here to support their local community! Its disgusting.

The police called on Monday to confirm they are closing the case due to lack of evidence even though not one trip has been made out to the scene where Jack was found only a call made to exmoor zoo to see if any cctv in operation on their boundries, which they don't :( .

The vet would not commit 100% to say it was a knife (even though told me it was most likely) only that Jack had injuries which suggested a sharp object had sliced Jack.

The police have refused to conduct a forensic check of the vehicle which came to my house the day before due to costs!!

So bearing in mind sgt Andrew ware who was dealing with the case has never been to Bratton flemming or even know where it was or the type of road it I to get there this is "his" interpretation of what happened.......Jack "escaped" he ran onto the main road a39 and jumped into a moving trailer (30mph) and hitched a ride to Devon where he then decided on this very isolated road that only two cars go down a day to jump of the trailer and cut himself as he jumped!!! This stupidity shocked me into disbelief that this has come from the person supposed to be aiding and helping me find who did this to my poor boy :( I am having to admit defeat as no other options to do anything other than this but I am distraught and heartbroken that I cannot get the justice Jack deserves!

I am hoping to have my boy home by the beginning of next week so just hope he can adapt back into family life and isn't too mentally scarred from this horrendous ordeal!

Thanks again for your support"
susieq666
Beautiful dog. Really hope he gets over this, mentally as well as physically.
fionap58
I don't suppose a lot of effort to find any evidence was made by the police, it's only a dog after all! They know the links between this and further acts of violence so you'd think would make even MORE of a effort in a bid to prevent. Whatever sort of 'thing' knifes a dog multiple times and leaves it to die? Someone we don't want in our society surely. Brave boy Jack, what a sweet looking lad x
Viv B
Best wishes to Jack and his family.
Lynne
What a picture to break your heart, those eyes. Hope Jack makes a wonderful recovery and overcomes everything to be your loving boy again. How this can have happened is unbelievable and to not be followed up is even worse. Always thinking of you xx
3labs
Bless him, what a little star! I'm sure with all the love and support him and his family are getting he has a long and happy life ahead of him, and his family obviously love him to bits. Somebody somewhere needs to be strung up for this disgraceful act. They cannot be allowed to get away with it. Lots of love to Jack and his family xx
wibble58
cried so much when I read about Jack and the horrendous injuries sustained from the lowlife, who I wish all the bad on for the rest of their miserable life. I am keeping everything crossed that Jack can make a fantastic recovery from this nightmare. Long, happy & safe life Jack you gorgeous boy xxx

Claire the only reason there was a lackof evidence was because they took so long to investigate and that was only because Jo and I were badgering them to do something. I will contact you elsewhere. The MP is a really good suggestion. RSPCA no use due to lack of evidence. You would not believe the evidence that Jo has handed to the Police. I am so dissapointed, however extremely relieved that there have not been any other occurances come to light. We won't give up, Jack deserves some answers.
ClaireC
You could try your local MP to bring pressure on the police or even to ask a Parliamentary Question in the House as to why the police have closed the case even if on lack of evidence in what I guess they deem as "small" crime. They too have poster power and also Crimewatch programmes likewise the rspca. Worth a try.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Jo: I'll get a more recent photo loaded. There must be someone who can help us move this forward.
jogrellier
NickB - I know! Feels like I'm banging my head against a brick wall trying to get them to listen! I have no idea where to take it from here :(
Jaycey
Sending big (((hugs))) to Jack and hoping he's feeling better xxx
NickyB
police making big mistake here - links between savage attacks on humans and animals are a known factor.last night rspca dog rescuers program showed a 3 mth old staffie had been thumped and bruised left with brain damage.owner jailed for 14 weeks. shortly after jailed for years for shaking his little baby to death
jogrellier
Thank you very much. In did send a few updates pics of Jack since his op via email to bobble as don't know how to update on here! Xx
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
I am so dissapointed in Somerset Police (West). Just a token re-opening then when I spoke to another "area" and the press was due to be going out.

We cannot dwell on it though, as long as Jack continues to recover and no other dogs are left to die in such an appalling way, we have to look to the future.
3labs
That's absolutely awful, doesn't sound like they are very interested at all in catching some lowlife. Can't help hoping that the person responsible meets an extremely unpleasant end.... It's fantastic to hear though that Jack is on the mend, please keep on posting news of him and maybe pics if possible, maybe one day one of him and his amazing rescuer! I keep wondering how Jack is and made a little donation to NDAA x
jogrellier
Really let down today by the local police force who have decided to close the case to find jacks attacker already due to lack if evidence :( heartbroken that my little man won't get the justice he deserves :(
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
allimac: NADAA have been wonderful, arranging for Jack to be taken to their vet, not too far to where he was found and paying for Jack's operation and ongoing support. However, the real hero here is the man who found him and took him all bloody and barely alive in his car to the vet having contacted NDAA.

Everyone: Jack himself, is a real star, a tough little cookie and one very special little dog. x
jogrellier
Jack got himself up today and managed to take himself outside for a wee and he also are some breakfast so definitely on the road to recovery xx

Sending healing thoughts to dear little Jack, and hope he continues to do well. As for the evil scum that did this, they need lynching. It beggars belief that someone could do something so evil. Thinking of dear Jack and his family at this very difficult time xxxx
allimac
Hope Jack continues on the up. My thoughts are with you, it is incomprehensible - don't know how I would cope.
Why? For goodness' sake, WHY?
Have sent small donation to NDAA as well. Sounds like they saved his life.

Well done Jo at getting the media involved, maybe others will come forward with reports of the suspicious character or vehicle. Give Jack an extra hug from me when you visit him again.
Is it possible to add a link to the press articles? I am sure your radio interview was fine. X
BorderCol
jogrellier, what sort of cost would the forensic search be? I would contribute to catching this person and perhaps helping to make an example of him/her.
NickyB
thank heaven for doglost not least because it reunites dogs but because so many followers are so kind and helpful and thoughtful, and we find out about little organisations like north devon animal ambulance. there are no words to express my feelings towards jacks abuser - its amazing he is alive. horrifying that anyone could do this. so pleased he is on the mend, and next job send cheque to ndaa. with 5 rescued dogs 3 of which are little jack russells cant imagine how jogrellier feels, but at least he knows there are lots of very very kind people
jogrellier
Hi all, Jack's owner here! Just a quick update on his progress, he had his operation yesterday and us doing really well in recovery. He is still heavily sedated at present but the vets have confirmed the operation went very well :) now it's just getting him up and about gradually and to see how he goes, it's going to be a very long recovery process not only physically but also mentally for my poor little boy. NDAA have suggested that they allow him to recoup for a week until the stitches come out, in their centre in Devon, which I have agreed to as have a 1yr old and 3tr old who don't understand what has happened to him so give him time to adjust in peace and quiet. The west Somerset free press have made his story front page and j have just had a very awkward telephone interview with BBC Somerset radio (I do not do public speaking do be warned!).
The policeman came over with my statement earlier and said he thinks it'll come to nothing as no evidence to go on and that my request for forensic search of the vehicle the guy who knocked at my door the day before would be denied due to ecpenses but he would still put it in his case to put forward.

Thanks for everyone's ongoing support, it really is helping me through this tough time at the moment x
JulieH
My daughters kitten had to have a leg amputated on Christmas Eve after receiving an injury which the vet said could only have been caused by being kicked. There really are some lowlifes out there.Dexter the kitten has adjusted brilliantly to being a tripaw and I'm sure Jack will do the same.Stay strong little fella .
susieq666
Poor little Jack. Can't believe people exist who would do this to a wonderful JR, or indeed any dog. Hope someone takes a knife to them. Sadly, this is in my local area - I feel ashamed that we harbour such people. Fortunately, we also have a lot of 'good guys'. Get well soon, Jack.
ClaireC
Speechless of the ******** who did this. Speedy recovery Jack as I'm sure you will be even on 3 legs in the future. xx
mathers22
Sick, pathetic excuses for so called "human beings". I am so pleased Police helping with this. Absolutely appalling. I hope he is soon well enough to go home xx
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Finally, a lovely Police Officer from Somerset is helping owner and looking into this. Now being treated as a crime.

The main thing though is that Jack continues to recover and he needs all his strength to do that.. He is a remarkable little dog and some some wonderful people NDAA and owner helping him. I think Jack's owner will be updating again soon. You can imagine what she is going through with a normal life to get on with and her dog so far away in doggie hospital.

I have asked admin to add the Photo owner sent me this morning of lovely Jack in his hospital bed.

Jack is also in local papers today....

So pleased that the op went well and that he will soon be back home with his family. I have seen statements from Devon & Cornwall police regarding another incident of attempted dog theft so hopefully they will be investigating this one. Shame on the Somerset force, they ask us to report anything suspicious but didn't follow up when Jack's owner did as requested.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Hazel, the local Police are not being very helpful at all and are not investigating. Hopefully, as he was found in Devon, Devon & Cornwall Police can turn something up.

I am so pleased to hear Jack is doing so well with the support of his owner and all you lovely people who have helped to save his life. I hope the police complete a full investigation so as to protect the public from these savage attacks on innocent dogs. Justice must be found and served to ensure such criminals are rightly punished for such unspeakable acts on violence. Bless Jack for being so brave and strong and truly hope he makes a good recovery and has no lasting trauma from such a terrible attack xx healing hugs xx

Update from owner Jogrellier below.
jogrellier
Hi all thank you very much for updating everyone on my darling boy Jack, I have been down to barnstaple today and been very busy ensuring everyone who has showed such concern for him and also make others aware in our local area as unfortunately he is not the only Jack Russell to have gone missing last week :( I cannot express enough how much everyones lovely comments and support have help myself and my family over the past few horrendous days and even though my 4legged friend will become 3 legged friend he is very good spirits and planted me in kisses when I saw him today. His 82 stitches are healing amazingly so they plan to operate to remove his leg on Friday once the swelling has reduced I am sure he'll be bounding aroumd the garden in no time :) the Market vets alkng with the NDAA have been absolutely amazing and I now aim to raise as much money as I can for such an amazing volunteers run charity who are there 24hrs not only for the animals who need them but also people like me who are distressed and saddened by the circumstances on which they find our beloved pets. I cannot even begin to tell you how I feel about the sick sick "human" who did this to my boy other than It makes me physically sick

Moving Jack to the blue. He has been reunited with his owner today although sadly not home yet.
Jack was found with very serious knife wounds requiring 82 stitches and he will also have to have a leg amputated due to nerve damage.
He is recovering well and was delighted to see his owners. I hope they wont mind me updating his page, they have been inundated with calls from well wishers and wish to thank everyone who has donated to the wonderful charity NDAA who are taking care of him.
