Reading the article again (see link), I note that the dog moved off and the transport police later did a good search and could not find him - seems likely he got off the railway.

British Transport Police have been notified and Nottingham Stray Dogs are helping all they can. According to an appeal the dog is just sitting there scared and not moving, volunteers are trying to trace the owners hoping that if they call out he/she will come to them.

This poor dog is on the other side of the rail fence and no one is allowed to get over to get him,he is right by the rail line,gosh he needs help asap
