Thank you everyone. It turns out that the thief (who owns Hawkes' brother) had taken Hawkes' tag off but had left the identical tag (with my son's phone number as well as hers) on her own dog. When the RSPCA officer got a report of two rotties left in a horsebox in a field in Brampton, near Carlisle, she investigated, saw the tag on the boy, and rang my son. We were so lucky she rang him and not her. When she had the story, she got the police involved and the thief was was arrested and then bailed. My oldest son went to pick Hawkes up from his place in Glasgow and he will bring her back to London tomorrow or Monday.

Viv B sometime its best to contact the number listed to ask the owner to check. Admin don't always have time to monitor all listings and the owners don't always check either.

Skywalker99. No, the police couldn't arrest her because she wouldn't admit under caution and they have no proof or clue where the dog is. If it were a child they'd be able to bring out more big guns but basically they have dropped the case. I'm on my own, now.

Having admitted the crime it seems pretty pointless not saying what happened to the dog.....hope the police are charging her with theft.

Yes, Hawkes is still missing. When the police arrived on her doorstep, the thief admitted that she stole the dog but when the police arrested and cautioned her she "exercised her right to silence" and there was not much more they could do. She did not give any clue as to where the dog is.

WE have update from owner. The thief is now confirmed but police unable to trace Hawkes. Please be vigilent - has anyone got a dog like Hawkes in the past three months? Check the dog's claws - could it be Hawkes? Anywhere in the UK, but more possibly in the South East areas. Thank you.

I am in contact with owner and can report that police are investigating this crime. I cannot share it all on here due to investigation, but I will say this was a planned theft with minimal disruption, in the early hours of the morning. It is an absolutely terrible thing to do. It was deliberate and cunning. Please, please share Hawkes in Edmonton, Muswell Hill, Hemel Hempstead, Enfield. Thank you.
