No further sightings reported. Let's hope the dog has made his way home and that the posters helped to send a clear message to the owner if the dog was allowed to roam in the streets

Larkspur now registered - 88909.

me n my girl, do hope you're right about the owners! We've suggested several times to Larkspur's owners that they should put him on the site. Hopefully they will soon! There's a link to his petslocated page further down this thread and also some photos of him on Doglost Surrey FB page if you want to take a look x

You've all worked hard to solve this doggie mystery and perhaps owners have seen posters and taken the hint, lets hope so. I have looked for Larkspur on Doglost but can't find him/her. I'm an "armchair searcher" for Rennie the missing greyhound and would also look for Larkspur on rescue sites I visit at same time.
BlackLab
Sounds like a sensible decision, I hope Lukspur/Larkspur's owners manage to find him, sorry this wasn't him, but will keep eyes open for both dogs.
csquaredb
Just to let you know that it is believed that all the evidence seems to point to Wallace being a latchkey dog. All the sighters seem to be describing the same dog, who we have a blurry photo of. One of the original sighters has been shown the picture – he has confirmed that it is “very similar” to the local dog which he knows is allowed by its owners to roam the local area. We are still hoping that he may come back to us with the name of the owner, so we can ask the DW to look into this, particularly as we understand that Wallace was hit by a van, before he was seen running into the Priest Hill nature reserve. A further sighting confirmed that Wallace was not limping, so thankfully it would appear that he was lucky enough this time to escape serious injury. Without that official DW investigation, we can obviously never be 100% sure that Wallace and this dog are one and the same, but, on the balance of probabilities, it would appear likely. Despite extensive postering (thanks to Monica and co) and the warden of the nature reserves being aware, there have now been no sightings of Wallace since last Tuesday. I think we have to be realistic and assume he has now made his way home. My personal opinion, shared by others, is that a full scale search for this dog is no longer appropriate at this time. Obviously, if Monica suddenly gets a plethera of sightings resulting from the posters, we should reconsider. I’m sure anyone over that way will be keeping a weather eye out for him anyway and I’m told it’s a lovely place for a dog walk! Between us, we have a lot of FB sites covered, so if he does pop up again, I’m sure we’ll be on him like a shot. Many thanks to everyone who has helped, in whatever way. x
csquaredb
Please note we have ruled out this dog being missing Larkspur. Owners are in agreement.
csquaredb
Comparing the pics, I'd say no, me n my girl. Boots looks to have brown patches on his bottom and can't see any on the picture of this one. None of the sighters have mentioned any either. Sorry :(

Could this dog be presumed stolen Saluki/ greyhound Boots, ID 82224 since Feb from HP1.?
Redbertie
Wallace picture has also been forwarded to guy in Windmill Lane guy who orig reported sighting to ECR and he has stated that the dog is "very similar"
csquaredb
Thanks for the update Monica. Sighter must live in one of the neighbouring houses maybe?

Just to confirm sighter saw dog in Sutton grammar school sport field
Monica - Area Volunteer, South London
I ve called back the sighter on the sport field next/ behind the horses in cuddington way and sent him picture of the lukspur dog he said the following: dog seems the same however the coat on his body was longer so he wondered if the owner of the lukspur dog normally trims his coat. He said if he does and considering dog has been missing for a month then it could be the same dog. He confirmed his coat is mostly white but had some light brown golden patches in it. Looking at picture ie dog size breed and face he thinks he is the same dog. He has not seen him however since Monday and he has been putting water out and looked out for him. I am not sure if Wallace dog could be or not missing lukspur as description and photo of Wallace dog to date is not clear. Fact are both dogs are very tall and have collar and same or similar breed. I am truly confusedLast edited: 2015-06-29 12:27:09 by Monica - Area Volunteer, South London

I've just spoken to the ground staff for Sutton Grammar, who's sports field backs on to Howell Hill and where we have assumed Monica's contact had seen Wallace. Sadly none of the ground staff there have seen him at all. The head guy has checked with the person that was on duty on Monday and he did not see him. He also said that they weren't watering that day as it was raining. I'm wondering maybe whether he may have been spotted at the sports field next to Priest Hill and that that is where the confusion has arisen?
csquaredb
Don't think Wallace is Larkspur - Larkspur didn't have a collar on. Also, having seen another picture of Larkspur, colouring is all wrong, although I know photos can be deceptive. If Wallace is a latchkey dog from the Wallace Fields area and gets out each day, he could easily be popping up in the areas we've had the sightings. Houdini was regularly covering 5+ miles a day (and sometimes more) and returning to the same area at the end of the day.Last edited: 2015-06-28 23:26:13 by csquaredb

The guy who originally reported he is not aware that actually the dog has been seen until Tue and up to Caddington Way.
Blacklab i need help covering Oaks Park and woodland where Alfie was. Let me know if you can cover this area with some posters.
Larkspur's owner seems totally unaware of how dog behaviours change once they are straying and trying to survive. I am personally sure that Wallance dog has moved reason why I am still spending time on ground putting posters up.Last edited: 2015-06-28 22:57:10 by Monica - Area Volunteer, South London

Blacklab well spotted! I have increased posters regarding sighted dog up to Nonsuch Park, spoke to police and alerted every dog walker I have met. On my own it takes long time and I am travelling daily over 20 miles for the last 10 days and with a job it is also very tiring. I will contact the sighter on the sport field who called this week as he saw the dog quite closely and for a while before trying to approach him. Anything urgent I advice people to call me or text me on the number above as I cannot be on facebook or internet as I simply don't have time.
Redbertie
Larkspur's owners do not think it is him from the description & behaviour. I have advised ( while not trying to get their hopes up) , that the description may not be totally accurate and also how quickly behaviour can change once dogs are stray. Hopefully other later sightings can also be followed up and shown Larkspurs picture so we can rule him out or not.
Redbertie
Have forwarded Larkspurs picture to guy who orig reported to ECR and received this back : "Hello Theresa. Does not look similar. It was more of a mongrel and had markings also. Furthermore we learn from residents bizarrely they know the owner and they ALLOW it to leave home and roam around!! Have not seen it since we contacted you actually"' .

I have asked again if he can get the owner details for this potential "latchkey" dog that may or may not be Wallace. Have also advised Larkspur's owner to register him on DL
csquaredb
Lukspur's owner, if you're now reading this, please check Others in your FB!

Csquaredb - pic of poster added to FB page as requested!
csquaredb
Between us think we've managed to send owner a message via petslocated and FB. If there's a phone number on the poster, please could you ring them too Blacklab - covering all bases!!
BlackLab
I texted the number & owner has just replied to say he is still missing & I have sent the link to this page. Hopefully it is him!

Blacklab, don't believe anyone's heard about it before. If they thought it possible that he could be in Oaks Park, its more than possible that Wallace could be Lukspur - after all we know that Alfie ended up in the same area as Wallace, having been previously sighted in OAks Park! Is it possible to get hold of the owners and get them to have a look at his page please? Any chance you could post the pic of the poster on Doglost Surrey FB page too, don't think you can post it to here. Brilliant spot!
BlackLab
Apologies if this connection has already been made &/or discounted, but I'm just out taking down my Alfie posters & there are posters in Oaks Park for a Lurcher called Lukspur missing from Mitcham Common since 3rd June. They seem to be fresh posters - I've not noticed any for this dog before and they aren't DogLost posters, there is no dog registered on DL under that name. I have a photo of the poster & the picture is certainly a 'possible' for this dog.

Thank you everyone for your support. It is not easy to track a stray dog and community spirit is required even more as this soul does not have an owner. Last sighting is on Tuesday but we know that 'Wallance' dog was first sighting around the 10th. Wallance could have moved or simply keeping low ground. Time is precious and due to lack of sightings in the last few days we need to put posters up in the surrounding areas quickly. I need a volunteer to alert via facebook or emails all local farms, golf clubs, gym, etc. They could share it on their facebook pages and also print a couple of posters to put outside their business. Could we please start circulating it on twitter (as I do not have an account). I will be back on ground tomorrow and Sunday. We need to cover the following areas please: Nonsuch park, Bourne Hall, Hogsmill river, Banstead golf club and Banstead down, Banstead Station and preferably also Epsom down. Any local people willing to help covering any of these areas please contact me via the mobile no on the poster or via message. The quickly we can cover the areas the better. I would love to bring this soul to safety but I can't do this on my own and I need YOU to succeed.

Have circulated the poster to the following veterinary surgeons: Bridge Veterinary Surgery; Ewell Veterinary Centre; Goddard Veterinary Group; Winton Lodge Veterinary Group; Ark Vets Centre; Wingrave Veterinary Surgery; Kriek & Gibson Veterinary Surgery. These practices surround Wallace Fields.

While I was looking at the map for these practices it struck me that there are primary schools in the area. Has anyone thought of handing out posters to parents at hometime?Last edited: 2015-06-26 12:19:40 by Liberty Belle

Have spoken to Riverside who appear to be contractors for Sutton. They don't have him.
DogLostBattersea Dogs HomeBattersea
I have created a reprt for this dog but nothing has come into BDCH. We do not take dogs in from Sutton though and have no dealings with their warden.
csquaredb
Have emailed both general email for Battersea and doglost contact.
csquaredb
Have left another message on Reigate dog warden's voicemail. If he was picked up by Sutton, would have been taken straight to Battersea. Have emailed Admin to get doglost contact at Battersea.
csquaredb
Doesn't help us locate him, but as a bit of background, there was a temporary travellers site opposite Asda, Burgh Heath (KT20 5NZ) around the Derby. They were moved on Wednesday 10th. Both timing and location would fit in with him straying from there and being left behind :( Would seem the most likely explanation, since noone local has reported him missing.

Posters already up since Monday and Tuesday in cuddlington lane and in woodland of the nature reserve. Every single entrance of priest hill down to Ewell East station up to caddington lane have posters. I think we should spread posters in surrondings rds. I ve had 3 sightings 2 reported on Monday in cuddlington lane in the evening 20:30. Monday at 12:00 Dog was behind the sport field next to nature reserve and behind the horses in cuddlington lane. They watered the field and so dog went to drink a little water. Described as lurcher medium coat a bit scruff but dog seemed well and not injured. Quite tall off white with golden light brown colour in it. Run when sighter approached him/her. Too far to confirm sex. Last sighting Tuesday evening in golf club near hole 5 dog headed into the woodland. I will go back to put more posters as we know it is the only way to get sightings. If we could agree which rds someone of us can cover it would be great. Last edited: 2015-06-26 07:19:38 by Monica - Area Volunteer, South London

Would it help if I circulate the poster to local veterinary surgeons within a 5 or 10 mile radius of Wallace Fields in case Wallace has already been taken in for treatment or is taken in at some future date? If they put up the poster in the surgery local dog owners will see it when they visit the surgery. Some practices have a Facebook page where they will put up posters. I cannot help on the ground but I can use my computer to email the poster.
csquaredb
I've just left a message with the Reigate dog warden. It's quite possible that they may have picked up Wallace and we wouldn't know! Could be looking for a dog that's already safe! I'll chase them again tomorrow if I don't hear back and will also ask them to contact me should they pick up one in the near future. Pretty sure if Epsom had picked him up, Paula would have heard. It's also possible he may have moved to a different area, as Houdini did, so we could be looking in entirely the wrong area! Hopefully the posters will generate some more sightings, fingers crossed.
Amanda
hi Monica, now that Alfie has been found on Banstead Golf course, gas it been confirmed that the one we're searching is not Alfie?
Mandsk
It is believed to be a saluki, tall and thin. Believed to be female. Pic unclear but it has been seen, not by me tho'
csquaredb
Has anyone posting here actually seen this dog? We really need a better description and confirmation of breed and sex. From the picture, it looks like he or she could be a lurcher type, but the picture is very blurry and could be deceptive Please could all sighters be asked for more information. One theory is that this dog has been dumped - we have had at least 5 lurchers dumped in this area over the last couple of months! If that theory is correct, this dog could have been lost or stolen from anywhere in the country at any time, so who knows Me n my girl, anything is possible.
Mandsk
This dog doesn't appear lost apparently been out a while. Me n my girl. Some of us looking last night but did not see. Spoke to people who have seen her in nature reserve off caddington lane. Howells hill I believe. We will be back!
csquaredb
No sign of him round Howells Hill this morning. Were already some posters up there, but a few more added! Have alerted warden for Priest Hill as think she also covers Howells Hill

A bit far away BUT could this dog be Honey female saluki ID79462 lost 7/12/14 from Billinge North West Region. Admire you all for what you are doing.

Will get some posters onto the gates into the fenced off area at Howells Hill this morning

Have alerted Sutton Grammar PE staff and asked them to make ground staff aware - their playing fields back on to Howell Hill.

Bumped because of recent sightings
Amanda
I put posters up at the other end of Banstead Road yesterday and noticed the ones by the reserve. I also put one up in the car park at Ewell East station. Also emailed a poster to both Banstead and Cuddington golf clubs, hopefully they will at least look at the poster! I can't get out today but hopefully tomorrow I can get some posters up in Howells Hill unless someone else can earlier before then.
Monica - Area Volunteer, South London
Like always posters are needed to create awareness and get more sightings. If anyone can help with it please let me know
Monica - Area Volunteer, South London
More posters have gone up all priest hill entrances covered underpass to Ewell East caddington golf club LA fitness Glynn school field behind Nescot started Banstead rd to. He has been spotted now on a few occasions included Monday at 20:30 in cuddlington way. Posters ve gone up here too plus in the nature reserve. He can come out of priest hill to cuddlington easily without jumping fences as I ve done it on foot. He can come out of priest hill toward station and raigate rd as well easily as I ve found many fences down. I will speak to Amanda sighter today. If he has been in caddington way more than twice I ll organise to put food and water out in her garden. If he comes back then I can set up a trap in her garden. I will update as soon as I know more. Hopefully with the posters we can understand a what time he moves and where to as it is such big area that we need to narrow the search a little. Another recent sighting in Howells hill. Details given to Monica to follow up. staring to feel like the net is closing just a little bit
csquaredb
I've had this response back from the lady that manages the Priest Hill Nature reserve "Yes I think it’s the same dog I reported to Epsom and Ewell council on Friday as running about Priest Hill, the nature reserve I manage off the Reigate Rd.

I couldn’t get near it and the reserve is big with very long grass so after a bit I couldn’t find it."

She is going to contact me if she sees him again and I've also asked her if she can give us a better description of him/her

Ive been up to Kiln Lane this morning and asked around - no-one has seen any similar dogs recently . Mercedez Garage (one side of site entrance) has a guy outside on parking duty & he recalls a light coloured skinny dog some months ago ( but nothing recent) . Nissan garage ( on other side of entrance) , says they haven't seen any lurcher types for a while - a few terriers & one big white GSD type, but says they only come as far as the site entrance then go back. Burger Van in Sainsbury's Car Park & the guy doing fittings outside Halfords - again nothing . If a dog were regularly coming in & out I would be surprised ( if particularly ) both garages saw nothing unsure emoticon Also went to Priest Hill & again nothing , though tbh you could walk right by a dog if it were hiding out in the undergrowth. Also appears to be stock fenced, so easy to get out of that area if they wanted too .
Mandsk
See you there tomorrow usual time about 7.30 to poster. Will text you so u tell me where to go

I ve been out 5 hours today searching and put posters up and I will go back tomorrow to do more.
Amanda my number is the one on the poster as I am currently co-ordinating the work. I am now concentrating on putting as many posters up as sightings will follow. Is anyone local willing to stand by in case we get a sightings and I am not in the area please?

I've emailed the warden at Priest Hill to see if they've seen him at all.
Amanda
Hi Monica not sure how much I can help in a search as working all week but can definitely put up some posters along the Banstead Road if that helps. Which number do I use to text you mine?
csquaredb
Priest Hill Nature Reserve is what used to be the playing fields behind Nescot and Ewell East station. Think it can be accessed via either the A240 or A232. http://www.surreywildlifetrust.org/reserves/priest-hill Think unfortunately google maps puts it further along, as they obviously share the same postcode. Looking at the satellite image it's directly opposite the junction of Beverley Close and Banstead Road.
Monica - Area Volunteer, South London
Amanda if you are local I need a local helper just in case it is sighting again and I am not in the area as I am not local but currently working to ensure we bring this dog to safety.
Sighter said he was in Priest Hill National Reserve. However, it seems that Priest Hill on the map does not match to same location provided by locals. I need help on ground work with posters search etc. Could you please contact me or text me your number. I am going out to print posters then I am coming to the area to put them up.
