I don't know if anyone will see this but I've just seen this dog for sale on gumtree and thought I'd check on doglost as it says they only have a very short history for the dog dating back a few months. I know the age doesn't add up but if they don't have much history then it may not be accurate. The saddle shaped marking on the back looks very similar to Darcy's marking. https://www.gumtree.com/p/dogs/handsome-charlie/1135223781

I don't think a farmer would shoot a dog, more like their own dogs would chase it off if it was causing a nuisance or bothering sheep. It's unlikley she would have injured herself somewhere because she would have been spotted after a day or two by the landowners. She may have been picked up by someone who liked her and wanted to keep her as their own pet. Your best bet is to place a large front page ad in the local paper, or a prominent ad inside, say on page 3 or 5 (so it can get noticed) and offer a tempting reward - this is the best way to jog prople's memories and encourage someone to come forward, or it may even make the culprit feel guilty and return her to you. I hope you find Darcy. I often think of her and wish her well. I am sending good vibes to you and Darcy in hopes you will both be reunited again very soon. All the very best.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another month on & sadly nothing. i have written to about 50 farmers in the area asking that if he was found on their land or had been shot chasing sheep- if they would let me know. The response has mainly been that it would have been unlikely he had been shot. It is starting to look more & more likely that he has been picked up & kept by someone. Considering offering a larger reward - any ideas how to effectively cross a wide and more national area? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi. Hereford Journal kindly ran another article on Darcy last week as it would be his First Birthday. It triggered one call from someone who thought they had seen him on the old SAS camp in Hereford. Have followed up lead but would appear to be wrong dog. Am planning to do a "Chain Email" to try & get some sort of national coverage. Is anyone willing to forward me their email address to join in? My main fear is that he has been shot by a farmer as he could easily have found himself in field of sheep around here. Is this likely that this doesn't get reported as one would expect?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear All No news still I'm afraid. I did get phone call from a chap who thinks he may have seen a b & w dog dash off across fields near Hampton Court around the time I lost him - I have been in contact with their people & have walked & postered a lot around there. A lady rang rang from near Brimfield - might have seen him up there. I have been all around there too. Have walked more of the woods with gamekeeper this morning - no sign of him. It is a big mystery. Will keep on putting posters up. & Shrophshire radioLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sarah, you really need to have lots and lots of posters up. You also need to check on them to ensure that they haven't been removed. I would also suggest you contact outdoor groups like the Ramblers, riding schools, rangers, wildlife trusts, woodland owners etc.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

BBC H & W again to start with. I have already asked them to contact Doglost and do some interviews on DL's work. So ring Katie Johnson or email on Katie.Johnson@bbc.co.uk and also try to link this with the 2 other dogs missing in Herefordshire and the recent ones gone form Worcestershire. A sales rep rang me to say she had Darcy's picture in Garden centre near here & he looks like a dog that was running loose on A49 on Tues 27 Feb. She said lots of cars had slowed down. But I have had no other calls which is odd. If someone bundled him into a car & took him a long way away - how can I bring him to people's attention nationally? Any ideas? Dear All, I'm sorry to say no joy so far. We've had a couple of false alarms. The recent bad weather probably isn't helping keeping him and other walkers under cover. Just concerned about the lack of sightings. SarahLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear All No calls from Hereford Times advert which is disappointing. A lady rang Sun 4th March am saying she had seen a black & white dog running around the bridge in Mordiford 3 miles south of hereford on Sat morning - she later saw my poster. Went up there today & walked woods - no sign. Pouring rain does not help as if he is still out there - he will probably be under cover. So unsure what to do next. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear All Responses So Far Following your advice - many thanks. Had a call from Bartestree (East of Hereford on way to Ledbury)area on Mon night - people think they saw him on Sun am near houses. But have been round there since - must have moved on. & no-one else saw him. One girl had seen a black & white bulldog - so now I am beginning to think maybe not him. Advert with reward coming out in Hereford Times tomorrow maybe might shake him out.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Posters need to be put up in the area a.s.a.p. lamposts, entrances to parks, vets, petshops, ask postie, milkmen, binmen (even put poster on bins), schools, deliver to houses etc. Handout smaller posters to people, especially dog walkers. Put A4 poster in car windows. Check Police stations and Dog Warden. RSPCA and rescue centres need checking regularly and preferably visited in person, by owner or someone who knows Darcy. xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
