Thrilled that Jewel was found quickly and is safe and well. Massive thanks to the Stratford Posse who turned out last night to search for her and again this morning. A fantastic group of people: :D Welcome back to the fold Jewel. I really hope that you find your furever family soon but for now I'm just pleased that you're safe xx

Good to see Little Jewel has been found safe :))

To be fair to the new owners they made a genuine error of judgement. They are a lovely family and just made a mistake. Fortunately this was a happy ending. Jewel is now back in foster as the adopters felt she was not the dog for their current setup. Adopters have strict instructions and given lots of advice. Sometimes a dog can appear more confident than it really is and so people can misjudge a situation. There is always a bigger picture and the adopters really shouldn't be judged by this one misdemeanor. They are caring dog owners who have two very well looked after dogs. Jewel is now safe and fortunately none the worse for wear after her experience. Thank you to everyone that helped in the search.Last edited: 2015-06-29 19:38:21 by Janette

Given the number of lost rescue dogs on this site who have bolted from the car on arrival home, got out through an open door, got out of the garden where they had been left unattended etc. I am surprised at the amount of vitriol being expressed here. We do not know how she came to be let of the lead.....could have been a child who did not realise...Last edited: 2015-06-29 19:28:11

I'm delighted that she has been found but if I were the rescue people I wouldn't be letting it go back to anyone unwise enough to let it off the lead so soon after getting it, obviously in my opinion they aren't fit to own it.
Sammie
I foster for the same rescue this dog came from and know that they were told not to let her off the lead, and our general advice is not for 2 weeks but ofcourse this can depend on the type of rescue it is. Some dogs for example may need to stay in the home initially, where other more confident dogs are trained well to recall before (ESP if they had already been in a home).
We also have strict guidelines for transportation so rest assured every adopter would be, and is told, not to let them off lead before they are ready.

I completely agree with Jo Glos, labradorloopy, NickyB. If people are about to take a dog into their home, especially a rescue, read this, Hopefully it will help them not to make the same mistake. Jewel is so lucky to have been found and so quickly, that isn't always the case. The poor little thing will have gone from one traumatic experience to another, and another. Hopefully now will all be ok. Last edited: 2015-06-29 14:36:43 by Angel

sorry but some people are either complete idiots or completely ignore advice. this is how I ended up with my 5th dog a Romanian rescue - been thro hell in Romania, 5 days in a crate getting here and then adopter completely ignores advice for a high risk flight dog, loses her on day 1.took 3 weeks to find her
labradorloopy
I agree with Jo. When we adopted one of our dogs from N.A.W.T we were told not to let him off the lead for three weeks and to walk him in two or three places so he began to know the area and could start to bond with us. I'm not criticising the new owners as they may be new to dog ownership and not been given clear guidelines - but, this happens too often.

Excellent news, welcome home beautiful

I know this isn't helpful at this stage but how on earth would a new adopter think it was ok to let a nervous dog off lead when the dog doesn't even have any bond with them? There have to be better rules and guidelines before a needy dog is handed over to new owners, this is such a sad case and waste of so many people's efforts to care for the dog. I so hope she can be found safe..and found a new, more safe and responsible home. These lists just keep growing every day...heartbreaking.

Good luck for today..... xx

Shared Facebook & Twitter hope it's a happy ending and very soon.

We were Jewel's fosterers. Steve is coming up at first light tomorrow with his UAV (Drone) - hopefully he can fly this over the field and hopefully see her. We can then direct people to any sightings... worth a try. He is leaving here at 4am so should be at the field first light. If anyone is able to help look on the screen it would help. Steve can then concentrate on flying the UAV while someone else looks at the screen for sightings. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Sammie. Can the previous owner or rescue get involved as Jewel Julie may respond to them if sighted.

SENDING ADVICE SHEETS NOW. Owner out looking with DL volunteer and friends. Local FB pages have been notified, will share pics now.
Sammie
Thanks Alison.
I have spoken with one of the people who are out searching now. Jewel was adopted today and unfortunatley was let off of her lead and she has run off. She is likely to be worried and may hide away. I understand the area if very rural and not close to roads. Crops are high at the moment and I am told there are fields and fields so very hard to catch sight of her.
