Taken from Aarifs facebook page

The saga comes to an end.....
Overnight reports came in that Aarif had been spotted returning to Southport. The team kept observations and he was indeed spotted near to Ainsdale where he was originally lost, however he was able to sneak out of sight.
Mid morning he was spotted again by members of the public and the team managed to follow him into the grounds of a large house where he was contained. He was not too happy with the attention so was allowed to wander and calm down. After a short while he saw Milo and myself at the rear of the house and a glimpse of recognition came onto his face. Milo started to whimper and Aarif slowly walked up to us and started to sniff Milo but I was unable to slip a lead on him and he walked away at which point Ulli turned up and started to call him. Again he seemed to recognise her and hesitantly walked towards her and stopped. I then let Milo off his lead and he immediately went to Aarif and, after a few seconds, Milo led Aarif casually to Ulli where we were able to put a lead on him and he was safe at last.
The whole episode has captured the hearts of thousands via social media. The people of Southport have been amazing with their support and assistance. The council employees have been so helpful and wherever possible gone out of their way to do what they can above and beyond, and so have a very special small band of dedicated helpers who spent countless hours searching for a dog they never knew for a family they had never met who were from another town. Southport folk (and quite a few from afar) you should be very proud.

Ok the southport visitor gives the full story -
"mum of-two whose dog went missing on Ainsdale beach has thanked the community for helping her find him.

Over 2,300 people joined the Find Aarif page on Facebook, which was set up after the Halliwells’ pet lurcher went missing on August 16.

This morning (Wednesday) mum Ulrike received a call to say her dog had been spotted in the Sandringham Road area.

She told Visiter.co.uk : “I left work and raced to Ainsdale. I saw Aarif in a garden, and then he went into a bush. I just lay on the floor, and said his name. He came to me, and I grabbed his collar. We have our dog back now.”

We can also reveal how Milo, Aarif's foster brother, helped to find the missing dog. Milo helped coax Aarif into the open, even though the two rescue dogs have not seen each other in a couple of years.

its hard to find right words to say when a dog is found alive and well when I was really thinking he would not with wearing a muzzle.absolutely brilliant - its such wonderful good news. thanks to sooo many people - starting with doglost and all the doglost followers who get out there and search.i would love to speak to the finder
Bo
His muzzle was still on - many rabbits in our area - this year in particular and he would easily take them down and I'm guessing managed to eat fine despite the muzzle being in situ looking at his condition. Even has a shine on his coat for goodness sake! 🌹
That's 9 days he survived on his wits, avoiding a very busy traffic area especially crossing from Ainsdale to the Moss Lane area over the dual carriage way.
What a dog. 🎉🎉Last edited: 2015-08-26 17:06:41 by Bo

Missing Southport dog Aarif has been found safe and well
12:38, 26 AUGUST 2015
BY ANDREW BROWN

Thousands of people joined search after rescue dog disappeared from Ainsdale Beach while wearing a muzzle ten days ago

A dog which went missing on Ainsdale Beach in Southport 10 days ago - and saw thousands of people join the search to find him - is finally on his way back home.

Thousands of people have joined the Facebook site Find Aarif which was dedicated to reuniting a Skelmersdale family with their missing dog, Aarif.

Mum-of-two Ulrike Halliwell spent several nights on Ainsdale beach , after her rescue dog went missing. Over 2,300 people joined the Find Aarif page on Facebook, which was set up after the Halliwells’ pet lurcher went missing on Sunday, August 16.

Ulrike spotted the news that Aarif was missing while she was on a mountain bike holiday with her husband and two children in France. She flew home early, and has since spent several nights parked near Ainsdale beach.

Ulrike said that her mother-in-law took the dog to Ainsdale beach for a walk when he went missing. She said: “He just ran off. He then refused to come back to the car, and just disappeared into the bushes.”

After an extensive search of the Ainsdale, Southport and Formby area, the missing pet has now been found.

Anne-Marie Farrow posted on the Find Aarif page: “Aarif has been found. The search team have managed to get him!

“More details to follow later.

“This is the news we have all been working towards.

“Thank you thank you EVERYONE who has helped no matter how when or where. He is safe now.”

Chris Farrow posted the photo everyone wanted to see - of Milo and Aarif together again, on their way home to their delighted family.

Lee / Ulli. - I've had an email from an RAF Woodvale point of contact sent on Friday last week - I had sent him a link to Dave the drones web site. He informs me he has contacted Dave in the interests of flight safety to develop community links. Dave was a bit defensive about my asking him to touch base with Woodvale. . No one has any issues with the drone they just want to know his whereabouts when he's operating if within the prohibited airspace. I replied to their email just now so when they get into work, they will be aware of the updated sightings (Wood Lane and the Moss) and will look as and when they're flying in that newly sighted area as well. I know you're in contact with the microlight club close by. I'm in the RAF hence the contact being made.
Bo
Claire - I'm local - trust me we are all over this - the land was given to them by John Moore the millionaire - you don't go onto their land without an invite - I'm not frightened of anyone but have manners. As I said - a friend's husband drinks with some of the men and it's in hand. Most are away on their holidays at the moment so it's quiet. Last edited: 2015-08-26 06:53:49 by Bo

Ref the travellers site I would be very surprised that there isnt a travellers liaison officer for them in this area! Too much is always said frightingly about not going onto their site but if you feel threatened then why not put a poster up by their entrance. If i lived nearer then i would go on there and ask to speak to the site owner and politely ask. Good luck.Last edited: 2015-08-25 22:30:28 by ClaireC
Witchy-poos
Update from his owners: The last two sightings were yesterday, one at the Sewage Plant by Wood Lane, Formby. After that there was a "yet to be confirmed" sighting in Haskayne.
The farmers and Game Warden for the area around Moss Lane are all aware so if he still in that area I would expect them to spot him. He seems to be moving in an Easterly direction. Can I suggest if people are out and about can they drive around between Formby and Ormskirk (I know some people have been doing this already). Again if seen please do not approach, if you see other people searching then also please confirm they are aware how nervous he is (non facebookers). Myself and Ulli are very grateful for all the help to date, we are not professional search experts, just anxious to get the lad home.
Clare

Oh come on beautiful boy. Heart breaking to think of you running scared. x
Witchy-poos
Last confirmed sightings of Aarif are in the areas east of Formby. Very hard to pinpoint an area to search or keep an eye out as the area is basically wide open farm land with ditches, farms & bits of woodland & the sightings are spread out. He's possibly using the Cheshire Lines route on & off. Volunteers are starting to poster the surrounding areas in the hope of getting more sightings, the gamekeeper for the area has been notified & he is letting surrounding farmers know.
Bo
There's not - but a friends husband drinks locally with a couple of people who live there and etiquette dictates " you don't just go onto the camp" - you're invited x
Unknown
There will be a Liason Officer for the area for the travellers but I myself would just go in there with a poster and ask if they could keep an eye open... I am sure they will help x
Unknown
Good idea Bo. Hopefully will be home soon. all xd.
Bo
They're a good crowd there - Jenny spot on with my point - it's worth asking them as they know that area like the back of their hand. They need an inroad for point of contact though.
Unknown
NickyB Aarif has not been stolen by the Travellers he has been running for days and has been spotted near there , nothing more it is just a guide line for the owner to lookx
NickyB
more and more disappearing dogs - all breeds - are being found on travellers sites I have been reading, but don't know wisest course of action to take - ask doglost.co.uk head office to see what they advise, or contact the local police station or dog warden.keep fingers crossed he is soon home.
Bo
The travellers have a permanant camp near where he was sighted (within perhaps 1/2 - 1 mile radius) -

Thanks guys :-) Aarif has been seen in the Formby area but we're asking that people please stay away for now. His owners and the search team have been out all night and are carrying on searching for him now. The last think we want is for this boy to be spooked now that we have a location. Thanks everyone for your help, the sightings have given us a location to work with :-) xx

Thanks guys, wasn't here to update. Large search yesterday over one of the nature reserve areas after a potential sighting - including two drones going up to help search this massive area which also includes two large golf courses & an expansive dune area. No more sightings sadly. A potential sighting was called in last night around 10pm in the centre of Southport, the description was accurate but as yet it's uncomfirmed. Hopefully cctv footage can be checked tomorrow to confirm or rule out. We had a previous unconfirmed sighting in this area so it IS a possibility. We've not really been able to coordinate a specific search due to the lack of sightings & the huge area we need to cover. Posters & leaflets have gone out but we need a LOT more out, as Majorjet says the key to getting more sightings is postering & leaflets and we need more sightings. xx

Ninja his owner and administrators FIND AARIF fb group are coordinating any searches.

The key to getting sightings is postering and handing out smaller leaflets so any sightings can be alerted to one of the numbers on his poster.
Bo
His FB page have 5 admin on it so they're coordinating on that page and not here. There have been no confirmed sighting for a few days now. A polish sounding chap rang to say possible sighting last night - a few people went around the area but nothing seen. I've not yet seen a coordinated everyone pitch up at this time at this place - issue maps and methodically organise a search. But I may have missed it as the page is very very active.

There is so much activity on his group and it has been mentioned many times not to shout his name and just observe and report any sightings immediately to owner.

We are all rooting for him to be back home soon. x

Spotted this poster at Splash World yesterday and have done nothing but think about him since. What my concern is if he was spotted on a road near where he went missing and owner inbound, how long will it take owner to get to this road. The person who spotted him I am hoping is trying to follow him inconspiculously whilst still maintaining contact with the dog owner, hopefully, or who knows where the dog will have wondered to.
MAZ
All Aarif's "followers" waiting ... hoping and praying that it's HIM ... that this is the ONE sighting needed ... and of course if it is him that he will recognise his owner and be caught ...
Bo
Er yes - I think I did mention owner inbound - his Facebook page is very active as you can imagine with orders being issued and ignored aplenty.

Hopefully he has got his muzzle off
Witchy-poos
Potential sighting on Eastbank St has been pretty much ruled out as the CCTV guys have reviewed the footage (amazing help thank you!!) and no dog has been seen. Last confirmed sighting is still 7am Monday on the coast road near the park and go carpark. We think that he is likely still in this area and has maybe gone to ground somewhere with there being no more definite sightings since then BUT it's possible that he may try to get back to the area that he went missing from which is Ainsdale Beach. The areas between the points and close to the coast are still the main focus of our search although it's possible that he may have headed inland at night searching for food & found somewhere to go to ground a little further out.Last edited: 2015-08-21 13:24:53 by Witchy-poos

please let me know if more people are needed for search
Bo
Lots of gentle reminders are put on his thread - they then get swallowed up with other comments. The whole community is backing this search - southport flower show just started and they've announced on their tannoy system etc. he's not been seen for a while now - having viewed the drone shots it's a relief to see many watering holes so at least he's got a chance as his survival rate (as we all know) with out water would have been very very low. Food deprivation (aside from the energy he's expending running) he has some grace time wise - again stating the obvious..... My thoughts are he's exhausted and in the bush somewhere - someones trying to coordinate a chain of people search sweep which I thinks a fantastic idea. Let's hope enough folk engage with the search and bring this lad home.
Ninja - Area Volunteer, Lincolnshire
Have read several comments on FB where people have said how they have sore throats or strange looks etc whilst they have been walking around looking and shouting for Aafif!
Maybe a gentle reminder could be posted about as this lad is already scared etc then its just sightings that's needed and that shouting him will just cause him to either hide more or bolt away from people.....xx

People are searching for this dog, Aarif, who went missing while on Ainsdale Beach on Sunday (August 16)
Hundreds of people have joined a Facebook group in a bid to find a nervous dog who was lost by his owner in Southport on Sunday.

Concerns are growing for Aarif, a rescue dog, because he was muzzled at the time he disappeared - so will not have been able to eat or drink during the past few days.

He is a black and tan male lurcher who is microchipped, and has been neutered.

Over 700 people have already signed up to the Find Aarif page on Facebook , with others invited to join in the search and post any sightings.

Speaking on the page, Kim Wall said: “Come on peeps we need to get over 1,000 members on this page, share, share, share. We will find you Aarif, in our hearts even though we have never met.”

Kate Eccles said: “Wish you all the best of luck to everyone who’s out this evening.

“Have my fingers and toes crossed that there’s good news soon!

“He’s not left my mind since found out he’s missing wearing a muzzle.”

David Dunn, who runs The View From Above page on Facebook , has even been out in Southport joining in the search with his drone.

David said: “This evening I was asked to take the drone over the sand dunes between Ainsdale and Southport to help look for a missing lurcher dog by the name of Aarif. I met his owner who was mortified but not giving up any hope whatsoever of finding Aarif safe and well.

“Unfortunately we did not find him this evening but I will be looking again tomorrow.

“I would like to ask our Facebook followers to share this and also please share the Find Aarif Facebook page.

“Aarif has been missing since Sunday and reported sightings have been mainly between Pleasureland and Ainsdale Beach. Many thanks.”

People can also join the search on Twitter by using @FindAarif #‎findAarif

Aarif is said to be nervous if approached by people.

He was last spotted near Pontins in Ainsdale on Tuesday.

If anyone spots him please call 07584 432778.

If anyone wants various size word doc posters sending can you please let us know.
DogLostMajorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
Various size word doc posters now done, smaller ones are ideal for handing out to get quick reports of any SIGHTINGS.

I anyone does SIGHT him please try and take a PHOTO and contact one of the numbers on the posters. It cannot be stressed enough do not try to catch him which may cause him to run further afield. If he is in a safe area he is best left and minimum of people visit the area. As a lot aleady know he may well not even respond to his owners or people he knows until he has chance to recognise them. The slow approach is vital.

THANKS again to everyone who is helping to get AARIF back HOME where he belongs.

CROSS POSTED UPDATE posted approx 12.00pm:

Aarif is still missing - He was in the care of a family member, whilst the immediate family went away on holiday. He went for a walk on Ainsdale, which he had done before, but this time he did a runner (Sunday 16th August.) He was wearing his muzzle at the time, so will be very hungry if he hasn't managed to remove it. His mum has since returned from abroad to search for him. There has only been a handful of sightings of Aarif since Sunday. PLEASE do not approach him if seen, please call the number on this flyer. He lives in Skelmersdale with his family, so there is always a chance he might try and return home since no further sightings in Southport since yesterday afternoon,(Tuesday 18th august) so please keep looking & sharing - Many Thanks xx

On the plus side Royal Birkdale golf club is right there where he went missing so if he can get in there (I don't think its fence off but never been) then there will be water lakes on thereLast edited: 2015-08-19 10:17:01 by Bo

I was down the beach last night near Pontins (where he was lost) and none that I could find- hopefully that was just because I couldn't see them. My sister down there with her dogs this morning and no water seen

Are large buckets of water being left at places he's pasted through? Hopefully he'll be so happy to find water that he'll hang around
Bo
There is microlight hire near by - £95 for 60 mins - I've suggested they go via this route as you can communicate via text if he's sighted and running which direction - if this was my dog (and I'm very familiar with the area as was brought up here) - this would be the option I'd choose.

Has a tracker dog been considered? I know this lady is recommended http://www.k9tracker.co.uk/ (only asks for expenses).

Praying that Aarif is home safely very soon. xx

'Find Aarif' fb group

There are lots of people involved in helping searching for Aarif and they are in touch with family. Owner has flown back from hols and arrived tonight and is helping in the search.

CROSS POSTED from the group and posted 4 hours ago:

I spoke to Chris earlier, don't know if he's had chance to fill you in yet, I'd been in touch with my friend who cross posted the sighting by the park and ride yesterday morn. She is 110% it was him as it was her friend who got outta the car and tried to grab him, she said her friend said it was a tri coloured lurcher wearing a muzzle, this was before they had been made aware of aarif missing and she has since shown Fiona the photo of him and she is absolutely certain it was him. This is only about 500 metres from the east bank street sighting later that night x

The last confident sighting of Aarif was Mon 7am on the coast road just south of Pleasure land He was lost from Ainsdale where he had only been once before. At the moment we have no idea where he might be so a search would be difficult We need eyes on the ground for any sightings both on the beach and in town where there was a possible sighting last night. We are ready and poised to bring him in if only we had a clue Please keep looking

Aarif is wearing a box muzzle so he will be able to drink as long as he finds water deep enough but he will avoid people & anywhere that is busy so we don't know if he's managed to find water or not, this is why it's so urgent that we bring him in asap. Thanks everyone. xx

Thanks for adding the update Bo :-) We need help postering now please if possible as we need to get more sightings reported in. He is doing his best to be invisible & he will be terrified poor boy. Facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/405824019620361/?pnref=story if anyone can help. Thank you.
Bo
Aarif was spotted in the early hours in the middle of Southport (Eastbank Steet) - he is wearing a MUZZLE
Bo
Hopefully he will be reunited tonight - If not, it may be worth calling RAF Woodvale in the morning as they do over fly that area flying training most days. It take them less than 3 minutes flight to get there (if that) Last edited: 2015-08-17 18:17:26 by Bo

Team of people have been searching for this boy all day, but no sightings since 7am this morning. Last sighting was near the fisherman's rest pub at Birkdale. Aarif won't go to busy areas & will avoid people so we're pretty sure that he will have stayed close to the beach & in the surrounding dunes/nature reserves which is where we've been searching all day. The dog warden & the rangers have been just superb & have been actively searching all day too. With no sightings since 7am this morning, he must have found somewhere to go to ground & will most likely come out after 9pm when it's quieter & starting to go dark. We're hoping that he will come inland looking for food & make it easy to spot him. If anyone can join the search this evening, please call Mike on 07919247721. Aarif won't go to a stranger, he is a very nervous boy. His ex foster carer is there searching with one of his own dogs that Aarif was in foster with & will be the best person/dog to bring Aarif in so please call in any sightings so that we can get him there as soon as possible.Last edited: 2015-08-17 17:58:47 by Witchy-poos

Thankyou Donna, that is Aarif. I've been getting updates from people on Southport Lost and Found this morning. Quite a few sightings this morning, but as we've got there, he's moved again, really need more people to spread out and stay where he keeps popping up. It is imperative he's found as he is wearing a muzzle.
Donna
Please look at facebook southport lost and found as there is comments about dog sighted similar description wearing a muzzel.
