- Am so pleased you have bruce home now...the only thing that comes to mind with the council is the song money money money..I remember Ming they had 3 or4 generations of that line and had a heck of a job getting her back.
- 2015-08-20 21:24 Bobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
- That is one happy looking dog - so much better than the scared, timid creature in the "Found" photo. Stay safe lovely Bruce.
- 2015-08-20 19:34 Unknown
- Aw he looks so happy now, Poochpal, dont see the point in that if they cant afford the fees they wouldnt be able to afford the boarding fees..maybe if its a first offence the fees shouldnt be so high....not everyone is on the internet or know how to look for their lost pets.
- 2015-08-20 19:06 Jot cotswolds
- Just found the dog..it was Ming id 72709 on reunited pages...and it was West Dorset Council almost exactly a year ago...."Ming was picked up on the same day she went missing........the West Dorset Council failed to match her to missing reports and descriptions the owners gave and have have now, to the horror of the owners, rehomed her.Unfortunately Ming was not chipped but it appears the council is at fault here as they made no effort in trying to match the dog up to the owners description of her. They are still hoping that the new owners will give her back but of course they are not obliged to..."

- I am pretty sure it was a Dorset dog warden service who - last year probably - failed to check a found dog against their list of reported lost dogs and rehomed a dog in error. It was a spaniel of some kind I recall. Real owner had a heck of a job to get new owners to give the dog up and Dorset dog warden service were unapologetic about their incompetence and failure to follow basic process.

- Lovely photo he does not look that scared dog anymore with his tail between his legs! press refresh to see photo.

- Fab pic, he looks so happy !
- 2015-08-20 17:34 Skywalker99
- Poochpal, they would be on very dodgy grounds in the courts if they were aware the owner could not pay and had not come up with a payment plan. And where is the sense in suing someone who didn't have the money in the first place?
- 2015-08-20 17:04 Unknown
- Thanks Kate x
- 2015-08-20 17:02 Kate
- HI Gillyp, only just caught up with this. Am sending a donation to help. If you already have enough please keep it for the next one!
- 2015-08-20 16:53 Poochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
- Not going to bite your head off NickyB, by law he should have had his owner's contact details on his tag. If Bruce had been registered as missing on here we would have been looking out for him too. Not sure that he was registered missing with the dog warden or where he went missing from. Maybe from out of the area which is why we always recommend listing as missing with surrounding dog wardens. Smith3712 knew of doglost as he/she came on to look for him. I am just pleased he is now safe where he belongs. Jenny4, as far as I know even if the dog is not claimed by the owner due to lack of funds if the owner is known some councils will rehome after the 7 days and claim the boarding fee from the owner via the courts plus a fine for not having id and allowing to stray.
- 2015-08-20 16:44 Smith3712
- Nickyb please don't judge me as a pet owner. First of all I have insurance for Bruce and have never had him chipped because he was a rescued dog who was serverly beaten and left in a pen for the first 18 months of his life so u can imagine how he feels about people, then we got him and at the risk of not turning him aggressive we've never had him neutered nor chipped and are very fortunate not to have taken him to the vets for any treatment yet! And as for the tag would it of even helped to have an address on it as they couldn't even be bothered to read the name that is written on it yet they mange to vacinate him. They renamed him yoshi which states on the paper work we got back from them so makes me think we're they really that interested in reuniting him! And found out he was dropped in by a member of the public Saturday morning. Glad to have him home were he belong and we are going to have him chipped now :D thanx for everyone's help
- 2015-08-20 16:06 Unknown
- Bruce will be microchipped now and his tag didn't have a number only his name. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and lessons are learnt from these mishaps.
- 2015-08-20 16:01 NickyB
- at the risk of having my head bitten off and/or being called judgemental isn't it up to us dog owners to have our dogs microchipped (now free) and make dogwardens the first phone call (doglost.co.uk next of course). I read bruce had a tag - if the address /and or phone numbers were correct don't understand why owner didnt have a phone call or a visit from warden. I do worry too when owners say they cant afford council fee - what do they do when they have a vet bill?

- He looks so happy to be going home.

- Thanks jenny4, did spend more than I had hoped but least he is home.
- 2015-08-20 15:26 Goldenfrodo
- So pleased Bruce is going home x
- 2015-08-20 14:59 Unknown
- I think the SDK are idiots had the dog gone into rescue it would of been cheaper to get him from the rehoming centre and the council would get nothing......this is such a common practice with them these days....it needs to be addressed.wonder how many dogs have passed through their hands and not been reunited ?? Do you need some money Gilly? Dont mind donating a bit dont want you out of pocketxxLast edited: 2015-08-20 15:04:56

- So glad Bruce will soon be home, thanks to all the kind people at Doglost..This is a worry that Bruce was in holding for 3 days before any notification..What about Dogs that are not made aware of..These will be put up for re homing or worse!..Disgusting council need to get their act cleaned up!!!!!
- 2015-08-20 11:48 Unknown
- Dont worry about being short, just make them an offer of what you have, i think they just want this to go away so will accept it
- 2015-08-20 11:41 Unknown
- Still a tad short, but I am calling to pay now.Last edited: 2015-08-20 11:48:21

- good i think they were getting a bit flustered with all the attention this was getting
- 2015-08-20 11:34 Unknown
- Ha ha Ron I was on the other line when you were talking to them!
- 2015-08-20 11:29 Unknown
- council have agreed to knock one days money off, i think they are talking to gillyp at present
- 2015-08-20 11:27 Unknown
- hold on for a bit, am talking to council
- 2015-08-20 11:20 Unknown
- Thanks Sall10, we are nearly there, just £57 pounds short!!! Anything you can do would be fab. I think once we have all the monies I will be taking myself into an office to make the call to both the Council and SDK!
- 2015-08-20 11:17 Sall10
- I can pay some money towards the fees if needed xx
- 2015-08-20 11:16 Unknown
- Can't see an e mail addy Ron but might we worth phoning and asking if they have one 01258 454111
- 2015-08-20 11:09 Unknown
- Can anyone give email address for the council, if the get 100s of email concerning this it might get more action than having a go at SDK or a council receptionist
- 2015-08-20 11:01 Skywalker99
- As SDK are sub-contractors then the coucnil should be made aware that their service is not up to scratch....I am sure their contract with th council must specify standards of service. and do use the small claims court to try and recover the 3 days....it will cost them more to defend than the amount.
- 2015-08-20 10:56 Unknown
- Robbie55ww I will be asking SDK to justify this when I phone to pay the release fees!
- 2015-08-20 10:53 Unknown
- I have a very cross face right now, fancy telling an owner that news. Charming.
- 2015-08-20 10:52 Robbie55ww
- Why not turn the situation around and sue the dog wardens for incompetence!! No information for 2 to 3 days is not acceptable, then maybe they will realise what a poor job they are supplying to the public.
- 2015-08-20 10:52 Unknown
- Don't worry ronmaxtye easy mistake.
- 2015-08-20 10:50 Unknown
- My apology to owner thought it was a lady, i can do a bit more at weekend if its needed, let me know
- 2015-08-20 10:47 Smith3712
- Yes thank u gillyp that is first on my list, will defiantly be getting him chipped :) the man that' we spoke to was very if you don't pay they keep the dog rehome him or he gets put to sleep even though we said we were more than willing to pay for the days he's been on the site for.
- 2015-08-20 10:45 Unknown
- Getting there Ron. Owner has given what he can afford for the release fees as well.
- 2015-08-20 10:40 Unknown
- Hope to see the dog back in the blue very soon
- 2015-08-20 10:37 Unknown
- I am disgusted with SDK for their attitude and the council for allowing it, this poor lady would lose her dog through no fault of her own, truly disgusting
- 2015-08-20 10:35 Unknown
- When you get him back a chip is most definitely in order. There are free chipping events all over the country. This is local (ish) to you. http://www.dorsetdogs.org.uk/article1358.html
- 2015-08-20 10:29 Smith3712
- Thank you so much to everyone that is helping we are so very grateful, couldn't do this without you guys. To me this is another way for the council to make a profit from others misfortune. Ludicrous! thanx again :) xx
- 2015-08-20 10:19 Unknown
- Thanks ronmaxtye, I am getting the monies to me if that's ok and I will pay the council directly. Last edited: 2015-08-20 13:11:29

- Robbie55ww my thoughts exactly!
- 2015-08-20 10:17 Unknown
- If i donate on the sites normal donate link will it go towards this or just general
- 2015-08-20 10:16 Robbie55ww
- As a dog warden in house or contracted, their main priority should be to care for that animal and find the owner asap. This has obviously not been done when the poor dog has been kept in a pen for 2 to 3 days without any information going out into the field, with social media as it is they should be able to send info to all Doglost sites on the internet......not a difficult job to do.
We the Tax payers need the council to up their game and get more involved in getting these animals to their rightful owners, the dark side of me thinks it may be a way of getting extra cash by trying to hold on to the animal before releasing any info. - 2015-08-20 10:04 Unknown
- OK thanks
- 2015-08-20 10:03 Smith3712
- Yes on the link that says donait at top of page
- 2015-08-20 10:02 Unknown
- Smith3712 did you make it to DogLost?
- 2015-08-20 09:58 Skywalker99
- This is completely unreasonable, I think that once the owner has the dog back they should issue proceedings in the small claims court (very cheap to use) to recover the 3 days money. When collecting the dog they should make it very clear they are paying the fees 'under protest' and will take court action. Meanwhile phone the local press. and write to their local MP. Of course had he been chipped......
- 2015-08-20 09:56 Smith3712
- Gillyp I have just made a donation best I could done it through PayPal hope that was correct thank u all for your help
- 2015-08-20 09:52 Unknown
- Thanks Nickyjm for the money xx
- 2015-08-20 09:51 Unknown
- Its mad! I have spoken to Smith3712 and told him we will see what we can do. Begging bowl is out again xxx
- 2015-08-20 09:45 charlie and sooty
- This is a complete mess. If Animal Wardens have your pet, but don't log it on a system for 3 days, why should in be the owner that has to pay the bill? I agree with Bonnies mum dated 20/8, time to write to local MP
- 2015-08-20 09:35 Smith3712

- Tried to call Jayne but ingaged my number is on the post below in comments
- 2015-08-20 09:27 Unknown
- Smith3712, can you all Jayne in admin please and get my number and call me.
- 2015-08-20 09:26 Smith3712
- Yes I argued the point he was only put up in the 18th and was told didn't matter as he was handed in on the 15th and I was also told that the bill will go up till claimed or Monday when they start rehoming process this is crazy
- 2015-08-20 09:26 Unknown
- I argued with them about this, they say its the Council who sets the fees. They probably do but employing outside contractors as no dog wardens in some districts they obviously have to made a penny too. I am cross with the time it took to put him on the website, surely they cannot charge for 3 days when no one knew he was in kennels.
- 2015-08-20 09:24 Bonnies' mum
- I'm not local but isn't it time locals wrote to their MP regarding SDKs release fees? They seem to crop up time and time again on doglost.
- 2015-08-20 09:23 Unknown
- I did try and call you but the number just made an odd noise!
- 2015-08-20 09:22 Unknown
- Did you find out where he is. Also the fact that they didn't put him on the website until 3 days after they picked him up?Last edited: 2015-08-20 09:22:56
- 2015-08-20 09:19 Smith3712
- Just spoken to local council and they want £167 to release I have told them I do not have that sort of money I was then toldif not claimed by Monday he will be rehomed even tho I have contacted them saying he is my dog
This is crazy and this will be going to local papers as there is no option to get him back - 2015-08-19 21:38 Bobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
- Smith3712 I know how desperate you must feel, as GillyP says he is safe, get on the phone at 08.30 and arrange to collect your lovely boy then. There will be a fee from when he was collected. Please treat him to a microchip as soon as you can as well. Oh, and an extra hug from me.
- 2015-08-19 19:37 Unknown
- He was found on the 15th. They did not post him until the 18th. Worth arguing that point.
- 2015-08-19 19:36 Unknown
- Just looked and North Dorset do not have an out of hours dog warden that might have been able to help. Hang in there.
- 2015-08-19 19:32 Unknown
- I don't think there is. Hours are 9 to 5. Sorry I got that wrong. Will be in kennels locally. He is safe for now. Think Jayne said there will be a fee. Perhaps you could organise a payment plan if money is a problem. Some councils charge less than others. Ring first thing quoting his reference on here. Did he have a number on his tag. Try not to worry. As I say he is safe.
- 2015-08-19 18:55 Smith3712
- Please if anybody has any info on how we can get him back ASAP call me on 07810700152. We just want him home now
- 2015-08-19 18:45 Smith3712
- 8:30 - 5:00 is there no out of hours number I can call
- 2015-08-19 18:36 Unknown
- Smith3712 you do hang on for ages. Hours 8.30 to 5.00.
- 2015-08-19 18:34 Smith3712
- Glad to of found him but can't seem to get hold of SDK can any1 help ?
- 2015-08-19 18:27 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- Tx for the shares ladies! Owner has just rung through being directed to Doglost...SDK not answering...warned owner there will be a hefty fee to pay...as usual with SDK....Owner will post shortly...poor dog looks so frightened...
- 2015-08-18 19:52 Tormor
- I would say Whippet rather than Lurcher & looks like the Dewclaws have been removed(which is more usual with Whippets) ;)
