- Thanks CopperM Some very information info. I do know that they are not microchipped as owners did not know they could be given them.
I will ask owners to have a look at the page so they can contact John Hayward and they will, I'm sure let you know about photos of their undersides.
Thanks for helping. Last edited: 2015-08-25 20:09:11 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex - 2015-08-25 16:37 CopperM
- Also let John Hayward know as he is the co-ordinator of the National Theft Register for exotic species.

Have the owners got a photo of each plastron (underside) of the torts, as they are like a fingerprint and the pattern changes little during its life. I also understand that torts can be microchipped but best done by specialist vets.
With the cooler weather, are you sure the torts haven't got out and dug themselves in elsewhere? Sounds crazy, but a distinct possibility if the run has just slid off a shell to its original placing...
Another useful site for when the torts are back: www.tortoiseclub.org especially about feeding and hibernation. Last edited: 2015-08-25 16:39:31 by CopperM - 2015-08-25 12:26 Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
- Thanks Springermad and TK.
Yes these 2 are all other Fbk but we need owners Steve and Michelle to make sure that people who do not use social media also know about them.
I would suggest you get posters up in as many places as possible.
That way if anyone has information about the theft they can call you.
Also if someone knows of a person (friend or perhaps a neighbour) who has just got a new tortoise then they will also know who to call.
You have already done a great job so carry on with what you are doing and I hope you find them both very soon.

- These 2 Herman tortoises (brother and sister) are 15 years old and have been with their family since their birth. They were STOLEN from their secluded run in garden. This enclosure is not visible from the road and whoever stole the tortoises left the pen back how it should be after removing them.
A family member had been feeding them Hermans tortoises whilst the family were on holiday and they were last seen them on Wednesday morning.
The owners and their children are very upset and distressed by this theft.
If anyone has any information please contact them as soon as possible. Or contact Doglost in TOTAL CONFIDENCE on 0844 800 3220.
There is an article in the Hastings Observer http://www.hastingsobserver.co.uk/news/local/st-leonards-family-devastated-after-tortoise-theft-1-6920515Last edited: 2015-08-25 00:48:06 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex - 2015-08-25 00:13
