- Homeless man is left devastated after cruel thieves steal his ten-week-old puppy
Dave Henderson is appealing for help to find his Border Collie Shar Pei cross puppy Sonny, who was stolen from Hulme on Monday night.
Dave Henderson's 10-week-old puppy Sonny was stolen
A devastated homeless man is desperate to find his ten-week-old puppy after the mutt was snatched by cruel thieves.
Dave Henderson was staying with a friend in Hulme with his border collie Strepsil and her puppy Sonny during the theft on Monday night.
Dave, 37, believes the pup was taken by two men at around 10pm.
He is now desperate to find the young pup, which is a black Border Collie Shar Pei cross.
He said: “A guy I had seen about Chorlton was asking if it was for sale. Lots of people have been asking me because he’s such a lovely puppy.
“We just got chatting and these men came around to my friend’s place where I’m staying. We were chatting for ages and they seemed really nice.
“Later on I nipped to the shop and on my way back shop the landlady’s boyfriend came running out saying they’ve gone with the dog.
“I saw them about a quarter of a mile away. I chased them as far as I could but couldn’t catch them.”
Dave is currently staying with a friend at Humberstone Avenue, in Hulme, where the theft happened.
Dave, who has been homeless for several years, is due to view a flat in Denton this week and had hoped to move in with both Strepsil and Sonny.
He said: “I’m devastated. I haven’t slept. I’m just so upset.
“Sonny has spent the first ten weeks of his life with me so I really hope he’s okay.
“Strepsil is really upset too. She had six puppies altogether and I’ve given them all away to different homes but I was going to keep him.
“The dogs are such a comfort. I have got friends but it’s hard to socialise and the dogs just help such a lot. I get depressed and they really help to bring me out of it. They are really good companions. They’re my best friends.”
Stephanie Moor, of homelessness charity Mad Dogs Street Project, said the theft is shocking.
She said: “He’s a lovely little puppy so it’s absolutely devastating.
“Dave is homeless but that doesn’t mean he is not capable of looking after a puppy. He’s absolutely brilliant with Strepsil.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said inquiries are ongoing. - 2015-08-28 23:02
