jenjanjo.there are shafts all over Cornwall , and so many not known until this sort of thing happens..... they are hidden in undergrowth .....I hope that as they are found they can be capped or at least fenced off..but even that needs to be done well as I know of at least one that is ''fenced off'' but even a dog could get through .there are plenty of places in Cornwall where it is safe , but if in doubt then always best to ask the local council xx

Had this lovely message from Tia's owner...
Have some very good news regarding Tia. Have just returned from the vets in Exeter where the surgeon examined the x-rays and reviewed Tia; he feels that as the break is not in a load bearing bone she will not need an operation and it will heal itself with lead rest of 6 - 8 weeks - amazingly good news. So we are back home and still on cloud nine at having her back. xx

I don't know much about the mines with not living in the area, but why there are no signs near the open mine shafts? The shaft that Molly fell down was only 2 metres from the coastal path and was not visible... find it so hard to understand.

2nd one in a week down a Cornish shaft...please keep your dogs safe there..use a lead if you're unsure or in an area you have no knowledge of, it just isn't worth the risk. The dog can be a free spirit again when you are somewhere safe!

Tia's owner has said she has a break in her pelvis, but is very lucky. She is going to a specialist vet for treatment, but she is ok. I wish her all the best :)

I am very pleased to announce that the Carbis bay Crew were able to locate the shaft and managed to rescue Tia, she was able to walk and has been taken to the vets for a check over. The shaft is in the middle of some dense undergrowth and a path had to be "hacked through for access, Tia was found 50-60 feet down, the shaft was originally 400feet deep.. The dog in Heamoor wasn't Tia & has been reunited with owner.
Carbis Bay crew are meeting up with owner of Tia just after 1pm & will assess whether is safe & possible to check down the holes where she went missing.
Keeping fingers crossed ( & what a time for my mobile to be playing up! :( )

There has been a sighting of a similar looking dog in Heamoor area, near Sportsman pub, if anyone in are to have a look please, just in case. Have shared to local fb pages.

Owner has gone up to where she went missing this morning, with a length of hosepipe & funnel, to act as a listening device, to see if she can locate Tia. Caving/climbing team (Carbis Bay Crew) will be assembled later.

Tia has gone missing near to 2 known shafts. The volunteer team that assisted with Molly are going to turn out tomorrow & see if they can access any of them.
Fingers crossed she is safe.

She fears Tia could have gone down an open shaft as there are a couple in the area.
