What a lovely ending I am so pleased for Betsy .Well done to everyone at the vets x
nicolapicola
The happy ending - Betsy was kept at the vets whilst Bulldog Rescue put her up for adoption but it seems that when she was about to go and have a trial stay with a prospective family, the vets decided they couldn't let her go and she is now going to continue living at the vet practice where they all love her dearly. Her snoring apparently gives a sense of calm and she has special dog friends to play with every day. On their facebook page she is depicted wearing a fetching set of reindeer antlers as part of her Christmas outfit.
Esther
She so deserves a lovely home
nicolapicola
Update on Betsy (from vet practice facebook) - Betsy had a trip to Scotland for the weekend and on the beach at prestwick. Loves saying hello to people she meets. Hopefully find a foster home soon.
Esther
Thanks nicolapicola, another member of your club I am afraid.
Jaycey
So happy Betty is improving and enjoying cuddles and even playing with other dogs..Little darling x♥x
DogLostNina
Nicolapicola your description of yourself as being a 'fogey' is refreshing I am a member of your club! Will take your advice...thank you.
nicolapicola
If you are a fogey like me and not "on" Facebook, just google betsy norwood veterinary group and their facebook link will come up and you can read the comments anyway. Basically, she is hearing a bit better and seeing a bit better and enjoying herself climbing up for cuddles and playing with other dogs.
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
If you go on Facebook site it's "norwood veterinary Group" there are updates on there, and a video of her playing. They are talking about speying her so she must be quite healthy now.
Esther
Any more news of Betsy?

Bo
No they don't know what was/is wrong with her. Her microchip wasn't registered and no sign of an owner. A Bulldog breed rescue will be taking her under their rescue care once she is well enough.
fionap58
Do they know what is/was wrong with her? No sign of an owner at all? Can't believe no one's missing her.

Update from 6 hrs and it's great news - I quote "Today's improvement - Betsy responding to being made a fuss of!! She has not sat still before while being stroked and really looks like she is enjoying it. We are sure she is starting to hear and see some things.
She is much better on her feet and orientates herself really well in the house and in the surgery kennels. She is also getting a bit vocal - usually means she wants something! Amazing improvement after just over a week. Fingers crossed."

Update "BETSY UPDATE...........
Have taken Betsy home this weekend to see how she settles. She has spent a lot of time on her feet standing in classic pose. Eating is a very messy affair so have resorted to RC Bulldog food - interesting kibble shape whuch is easy to handfeed when she flicks it out the bowl! No accidents - she is toileting outside when she eventually finds the exact spot! Not happy to be in her cage - got quite vocal - but settled when allowed out. She doesn't seem to be aware of the other dogs but 16 yo Roxy won't leave her side. Thanks so much for all the donations to her just giving page - https:// crowdfunding.justgiving.com/carol-paterson"

We have had many offers of help for Betsy and have opened a justgiving page for her. We realise that she may need an MRI scan if she doesn't continue to improve so that we can have some idea of the extent of the damage and the likelihood of a return to a good quality of life. The estimate for this is £2500. Should we raise more than this or, as we hope, an MRI scan is not needed then we will send all donations will be sent to Bulldog Rescue and other rescues. Betsy's update "BETSY UPDATE.............
Out for a short walk today - bit wobbly but most impressive! She seems to be becoming more aware of her surroundings. Still loves her food and managing better on her own.
Thanks for everyone's good wishes - the healing thoughts look like they are getting through 😊"
Refresh for new picture of her on her feet at last

I always think animals get better slowly, and worse quickly, so on that basis Betsy is so far doing really well. Many thanks to the vets who are obviously doing an outstanding job. We are all rooting for you Betsy
Shelagh
Fantastic news that Betsy is slowly improving. Keep getting stronger sweet girl. Many many thanks to vet practice who are caring for Betsy, you are all wonderful
Bo
I again feel I have to reiterate - this marvellous vet practice are bearing all the costs for Betsy's care.

Update from yesterday evening "BETSY UPDATE...............
There has been an improvement today in that Betsy is eating and drinking well with a little help. Her brain injury means that she appears at the moment to be both deaf and blind. She is able to walk but prefers to go in circles. Fingers crossed the improvements continue.
Many have asked why we have been unable to trace her owner when she is microchipped. Although she is chipped no details had been lodged on the database. It is vital that your details are kept up to date - in fact when the microchipped legislation comes into effect next year it is an offence if the details are not correct. Also if you have imported a dog you must get it registered on a UK database.
Again many thanks for all the offers of help and homes. We cannot answer them all but if Betsy recovers well enough to go to a home every effort will be made to find her right forever home. There are many other rescue dogs in need of loving homes and we are sure that Bulldog Rescue would be delighted to hear from anyone wishing to rehome one."
I've added a new photo so please refresh to view ❤️
Esther
Thanks for the update Bo, for those of us not on facebook

"BETSY UPDATE.....
There has been a slight improvement today and she has been shakily on her feet for a short while although she is by no means out the woods yet.We are also pleased to say that efforts are being made to contact her owner."

Well done vets and dog warden. Hope she is going to be ok
Angel
Does anyone have the vets facebook page details. I can't find it. Thanks
Angel
Well said Bo. Well done this Vet! Get well soon Betsy. x
Bo
I've seen many say "vets aren't allowed to treat just give pain relief blah blah blah" but let's hear it for this amazing practice who are spending a lot of their own time and money on keeping Betsy alive and bearing the cost of expensive procedures such as xray's. Last edited: 2015-09-08 07:00:23 by Bo
Bo
Update from Vet "We have named our little bulldog Betsy- doesn't seem right she doesn't have a name. She is making slow progress - bloods and xrays have not shown any serious damage but she remains quite sleepy and unable to stand up yet. We are worried that this is as a result of being drugged or perhaps even a brain injury.
We are amazed by everyone's interest and would request that everyone watch our page for updates rather than ringing the surgery - the phones were red hot today!
Many thanks for all your good wishes and prayers for Betsy 😊"

Update about an hour ago (1350 ish) Norwood Veterinary Group She is still very poorly having supportive treatment. It is early days yet. Unfortunately we have no idea how she had ended up in the state or place she was found. The owner of Molly has said its not her x
DogLostMe N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
My friends dog found a cat in same situation, she had to go home to get tools to cut her way in. Cat was reunited via chip. Hope she feels better soon.
Shelagh
There are two bulldogs stolen from Manchester on 2 and step. One Molly looks a lot like this girlie. They are coming up on pet log lost and found. Can't share link as blocked on Facebook ( 2nd Setenber)
Jaycey
Oh the poor little baby..Thank goodness she had the strength to whimper and was able to be rescued...Some evil scumbag must've hidden her there. .Hope she feels better soon and if she is stolen, hope her owners are found ASAP. .Beautiful baby ♥ xx
ALS
Hi Bulldog rescue are talking to the vets so are aware of the circumstances and have offered to help this poor baby Xxx
Unknown
Poor girl, hope she is ok x
Bo
From Norwood vets FB page quote "Been on a rescue mission with the dog warden this evening. A dog had been heard whimpering in a ditch near Brandesburton. She was hidden in and under a pile of dead tree branches and nettles. After finally working our way through the tangle I managed to get into the ditch and pick her up to find she looks to be a young pedigree English bulldog. She is very dehydrated and collapsed. She is microchipped so efforts are being made to contact the owner. If any one recognises her please contact the surgery. She is being treated and is on a drip at the moment."
