The vets reason for destroying a healthy dog is given in an early post: the father apparently claimed that Murphy had attacked him.
What a shame the vet did not scan the dog before he was PTS, which would have revealed that the father was not Murphy's owner and hopefully have set off some alarm bells in the vets mind.

I disagree with the posts below. I think both the father and the vet should be named. None of you understand what it is like when you are dealing with a psychopath, which the father clearly is. It's a different world from the one you inhabit. Whatever the real story, the poor dog was killed without the owner's permission which in itself is appalling. You certainly can't just 'move on', I'm surprised that anyone is saying that to this poor girl. She has suffered a devastating trauma and it should not be allowed to pass unpunished.

I have left him now and I never took the dog, he rang and asked what was goin on I told him and what I was gonna do with his dog, not bothered. Think you'd have to be in the situation to understand, but he's a good liar and will get away with it and he's not in trouble with army for anything. So he's got away with everything and wants nothing to do with me now, so it's over now. Thanks again and for all your lovely comments.

Oh no! I am so very sorry to learn this. Pesonally I do not think that by taking your dads dog away for a while will work as he seems a very hard man. Best that you just walk away. Good luck for the future x

I don't think all this adds up. I agree that someone who can easily be named and who is a military man, would hopefully not act in this manner. And as a father to go out of his way to spite his daughter. I think to be honest this is a domestic situation and the full story has not been told. Would be good to know the story from the vet involved.

This is a defamatory posting with no factual evidence. A serving named Sgt easily identified has been accused of killing a family dog to put off his wife coming back to a home so he can apparently continue an affair. The accuser then threatens to kidnap her fathers dog for revenge? Really?

I agree with Skywalker99 too. Lovely post Hazel. I dont think it is a good idea to name the vet, as it may land Doglost in trouble. who would want this awful man for a father? As for the vet who put Murphy to sleep, it defeats me. We used to go to a vet who was always acccusing people of causing their pets illness, even cancer, and threatening to report them to the rspca, including us. We changed our vet. He is now retired:-) Nightie, night Murphy.sleep tight, and have fun at the bridge, until you meet the ones that loved you when the time is right. RIP+ God Blessx(HUG) A~~Candle~~~burns for you Murphy. Really sorry for this girl, and Murphy what they have been through but Murphy will always be around you, in spirit, and heart.

Ps Thankfully we have a much nicer vet now:-)

Oh my God, I am so so sorry to read all the posts on this poor girl and her beloved Murphy. Could the RSPCA help in taking out a prosecution against this so called Father of hers. How on earth could a Vet put down a healthy dog. Bless you and know in your heart that Murphy took your love with him and you will know when is is around you, even though in spirit and you will feel his presence. RIP sweet Murphy.

I am amazed that a vet would put down an apparently healthy dog on the say so of one individual....which vet was it? Also, your Dad would have had to pay to do have it done? Bo..if you read the comments I think that her father works at Headley Court which is the Defence Medical rehabilitation Centre near Epsom. Poor Murphy.

Would just like to say thank you to everyone for your support, help and ideas. But I have found out today he was put down, this will not end at that. I am takin his dog away for a few days, tell him he bit me and that i had him put down, then give him back, he will experience what I went through. But I'm happy I had an answer and intend on getting another dog from a shelter, still got so much love to give! Military police can't do anything about dog situation as it's just a dog in there minds but don't they realize we rely on them for army training, blind, disabled, cancer sniffer and drug and just general companions!. He will be charged for the house and lying about not being divorced though so that's something at least. And to top it off he has no family anymore and will never be known to me as my dad.

Now you have to go to his colonel and the military police take it from me they will not be impressed tell them your going to go to a news paper to get help also ok you love his dog but take it and get someone to look after it and tell him he's not getting it back till he tells you where Murphy is you have lots of options there and they will work the army take it from me will not tolerate this ! I will even look after your dads dog for you I've got 3 and I love dogs you must NOT let him get away with this I will help you any way I can you want him back don't you and he is a complete asswhole xx Joy

What a dreadful story! In the hopes that he has been given away or sold, or will be found straying somewhere (the most likely, I think) I would try a Thunderclap (https://www.thunderclap.it/en). I am doing one for a dog my friend has lost and we stand at 209 supporters right now, which gives us a social reach of over 130,000 people. Worth a shot!

Oh, and a van full of spaniels, GSDs and JRTs was stopped on its way out of the country a few days ago. The official view is that they are all stolen. Here's the link to that story:

No police can't do anything to help as its apparently a family dispute, it was done to stop my mum comin over, he faked an engagement to her, I will try the military police on Thursday when I leave as I don't know what he's capable of doin to me once he finds out everything I've been trying to do to find out what he did to Murphy, so I will be staying at a friends and leaving work early while he still at work so he will have no idea where I am.

I have contacted all microchip companies and dog rescue centers, they know the story and will contact me soon as they know, police cannot do anything, only citizens advice bureau as i have found out it was done to make my mum hate him and not come back to uk so he could have the house he has to meet woman, instead of them goin to his room on camp, what he is doin there is illegal, he has no idea I'm leavin so he will have to leave this house and then he has no family left, he's a sick sick man the only revenge I could do would be to do the same to his own dog but I love dogs too much and couldn't do such a heartless thing, as soon as I found out what really happened to my baby Murphy he will be named and shamed, he's a vile cheating disgusting man and all the woman he has cheated on have found out aswell so hopefully no woman will ever go near him and he will be found out what respected soldier he really isn't, if anyone reading is from headley or works at Headley courts, Sgt Mathew Pow is not who you think he is !

OMG you poor girl, I feel your pain. Yes you must get the dog registered in your name if it is ur mums. Perhaps you can contact her and get the number or if she cannot find it the chip company database, could be with Petlog? The chip will then flash up as stolen but I think it was possible the chip would have been checked if it was handed over? To whom is the problem. Is it poss the vet said they would put him to sleep but in their minds there was insufficient evidence and held on to him to find a good home, not sure if they do this! If you cannot find any information come Thursday when you lease, will it be worth telling him you had rang all those vets and they said they hadnt pts a dog of this description so is he going to tell you the truth.

I would also report your dad to the police, and tell him in advance you intend to do so. He has stolen your dog! If he has done what you are worried about and killed him he could be prosecuted. Also are you in Epsom, Ewell or stoneleigh? Kt17 covers all those areas so quite a big area.

You poor soul. If you know his chip number, I would get in contact with the database (if you know the number and not the database look on Chck-a-chip) get him made over to you if you can and say he is not to be rehomed without your written permission. He may have been handed in to a rescue. Will share to the spaniel groups who check dogs on the internet sites

His microchip was written in my mums name, but I don't know if he has been put down or not, full story: I was livin in Germany with him and my mum, I moved other to uk to my dad who seemed to not like him cuz apparently he was horrible to his dog which he wasn't, I went out with my boyfriend on Thursday and came back and my dad and dog were gone but his dog was still there, he came back later and said he took my dog to a phycologist in Preston, which I knew was a lie, the next day he told me he took him to the vets and apparently they said it was best to put him to sleep cuz my dad said he attacked him, Murphy would not do that, he was scared of hamsters and birds, would love to chase squirrels but ran away as soon as he got close, he loved babies and any woman he walked past, I've rang 21 vets around surrey but they haven't put a dog down of murphys description, I've looked all on other lost and found sites and microchips sites but nothing either, I fear the worst he has killed him or tied him somewhere and left him, I've posted as much stuff as I can across social media. My so called dad who I will no longer call him, is a compulsive liar, I thought he had changed but I was wrong. So will be leavin him on Thursday, do you have any other ideas please let me know, I'm so desperate and in a suicidal state, Murphy was my little baby I'm so lost without him I haven't eaten since Thursday and have barely slept, he was always by my side and I'm a complete wreck without him. Please please let me know anything, I can't rest.
