Update: Falcore is back from vets and amazingly has no long term problems.He has fleas ,ticks, bad skin,little injury to neck,and is malnourished. Owner says he is fine in himself and I'm sure delighted to be home. It seems he found a level crossing and got out through there and ran to the garden centre.Blessxx

Just to be clear my role in Falcore return was purely advisory. Myself and Ron were actually on phone to helper Michelle when she told me he had been spotted running into garden centre,we were arranging where best to meet her tonight.While I have been advising owner and offering support it was Falcore himself,probably fed up of waiting for us to "rescue" him,who managed to get of tracks.

Re post from Jayelle this was definately the same dog on the tracks so there are no more running loose there.
Await the updates once he is back from the vets.

Well done all those who helped and supported the owner especially Shelagh who has been there for the owner.

If anything can be passed on from all this it shows the importance of keeping everyone updated by posting on this doglost page. When facebook pages are set up and many get involved it is often very hard to keep up to date with everything as facebook shares are made so more comments made.Facebook is brilliant in spreading the word but not everyone has it or uses it so the main point of contact must be the page set up for the missing dog and this is where updates need to be made.

Jayelle, yes I suspect there is always a place animals can get on tracks, especially when alleyways or even just pedestrian routes enter the station platforms. But at least it does mean the fence is secure, so dogs loose outside the fence should be safe. This is always a worry. But thank goodness this boy is now safe. X

Great news, although this would have been so much easier if network rail had co-operated from the start rather than doing stuff from afar....without co-operation from them developing a proper plan would have been impossible. I know they get fined for late running etc but they are always able to argue extenuating circumstances.....

Falcore has been caught! He went in a garden centre and owner and Michelle went to recover him. The garden centre people had enticed him in there using trats.He is on way to emergency vets now. Have been following this story since I was added to the group a week ago. The problem seems to be that when he has been seen either by owner or helpers no one can get to him because they cannot cross the railtracks. The owner commented on the group regarding sighting yesterday as follows: "He came near me he was staring at me for about 5 minutes he's trying to work out how to cross the rails to get to me" Falcore was lost near Chaucer Gardens, Sutton, SM1 (road near train line, halfway between West Sutton & Sutton Common Stns) so presumably there is/was some sort of access point near there that enabled him to get on the track?? There is a pinned post on top of the group page titled "TIMELINE OF SIGHTINGS & PHONE NUMBERS:" giving detail of sightings since 3rd November to yesterday. The owner/her helpers desperately need help to get safe access to Falcore when he is seen to be able to catch him.

Jayelle, I do not do Facebook, but was under the impression from this site that he got through the fence. Therefore, that is why I made that suggestion. If I was nearer and not in Essex, I would be there like a shot. Perhaps then he made his way onto the platform as do passengers and then just kept going after platform ended. Perhaps that is what owner could do if Network rail allowed. Why is there no Dog Warden following this up anyway and trying to help owner and we all know where Falcore is? X

From the description of his neck injuries and the loss of his collar, I wonder whether he got onto the tracks by some other means than taking himself in through a hole? Not sure what would have enticed him to want to go through anyway, even if he did happen to find a hole that no one can now find? If that is the case then perhaps the only away back out is to be trapped and lifted back up on to a platform? Would be nice to know what the correct advice is from DL so we can stop making suggestions which may be unhelpful or confusing.

I am in contact with owner and have advised her as to best way to recover Falcore Somebody is dropping food over fence and it is believed to be him eating it. Problem is nobody knows what time that is!.He is moving between at least three stations. If anybody local could help I will be more than willing to advise them how best to help owner. Owner has done everything possible and more to get her dog back and in fact has almost had him twice but each time he was scared off by members of public.Please if you live near there offer your help and support to owner. Retrieving Falcore will take a good number of hours and is better done by a local person.

The owner is very young to be coping with a situation like this. Co ordinating and dealing with a lot of much older adults and people in authority is a big undertaking that may be too much for her.

One of the problems about this case is that the owner has been taking the advice of lots of people making unrealistic and dangerous suggestions. Instead of coming to DogLost straight away there has been a very chaotic Facebook group without any organisation or leadership. Not all our volunteers are trained to deal with railway issues and our nearest available one is in Essex without her driver.

Further down this thread owner states she is leaving food. Whether that is still the case, we don't know, but I am told there is food. We have no official co-ordinator available in this area at the current time, but we do have helpers. The fact that Shelagh is trying to get to this location all the way from Essex proves that DogLost volunteers go above and beyond. NR, the organisation, stated in Dogs Today magazine that they always stop trains for dogs, of course we know different. However, occasionally NR does have some kind employees who do whatever they can to assist, so we have to hope this is what happens. If we get further sighting, Wayne has said he will assist in trapping (scroll down to CJ's posts). So I would suggest that owner keep in contact with us so this can happen. Just need Falcore to stay safe. X

Have just read the story in the Sutton Guardian and it is breaking my heart. Please please save this poor dog if you are anywhere near the area. Network rail get fined thousands of pounds by train operators if rail lines are not kept open & running so they aren't going to halt line usage for a dog...and no amount of shouting will change that...so NR staff help needs to be harnessed in other ways. The posts here give no clear info on who, if anyone, is actually dropping physical help to the dog at most recent sighting locations..or does that still need doing? If so then poss network rail staff working on tracks can be asked to leave food, water and a shelter for the dog..as a start...and gradually direct the dog with food to an escape spot. Or..would they be willing to cut temporary exit spaces in fencing near to him etc...

Reading all these posts theres lots of people suggesting leaving food/scenting etc..but cannot see any posts confirming anyone has actually done these things. Can anyone who actually has communication with owner confirm actual things done..and where.. so local helpers can focus on what they might be able to usefully do to get help to the dog for its urgent needs like food and shelter? I cannot see what things have been actually dropped near to the dogs location or does foid still need dropping? Heartbreaking reading these updates getting nowhere..with what looks like any help not being able to get there until Sat'night if I read this right? Wondering if the Mayhews rescue section could help..they are brilliant.

Thanks for the link PAW. I noticed in the photo from the train that Falcore appears to be in front of a fence of vertical railings: let's hope that food and water can be delivered to him though that. The temperatures are expected to drop tonight so he will need food.
In the picture of him at home there is a wheelchair; is he the companion of a disabled person?

Please can we ask helpers take a step back on this one. Shelagh is already in contact with owner and also media.We need to know what others are doing before they take action so lease liaise.
Very recent actions without the knowledge of owner or doglost are now causing problems and we need cooperation from rail track to capture him and not action that will alienate them.

Not sure if this would be appropriate or would even work, but Paddy and Nelson's owner was contacted by someone senior in NWR who was going to look into what happened after they disgraced themselves with P&N, perhaps that same person could help now if anyone knows who it is?

What would be the ideal course of action here? Would it be for the owner ( or the owners scent ?) to be given regular safe access to lay a trail and put down food, paving the way for a humane trap?
I can only think that if Network Rail felt sufficient public pressure or the local press become involved that some belated action might take place before it's too late. I only use email so have no idea how to harness the power of social media, but I know thre are wonderful people on here who can do it.

Thanks Skywalker. That is the correct email address although the M is lower case.
I have sent an email but that won't do any good by itself. How do we get hundreds of people to do the same, and to contact local press en masse? I can't think of any other way to help.

The chief executive of network rail is Mark carne and his email address is probably Mark.carne@networkrail.co.uk. If Falcore is getting weaker that makes him more vulnerable.....but it should make him easier to catch?

Network Rail is extremely uncaring and are fond of saying they have no duty to domestic dogs. I would strongly suggest, as has been mentioned, that everyone kick up a fuss. Yes, its hard to know what to do if they can't see the dog but they should get out there and try. Now, I would suggest the owner do the scenting away from the tracks. Bear in mind, I don't know this area, but is it possible that Falcore could cross the track safely at night to a safe area at the other side? Or is there a way through that fence that a scent trail could be laid? Only owners can scent a trail and if they don't know what that is, we can advise. Also at end of trail leave smelly food like tripe. But remember care is needed not to scent into danger. Keep the scenting in the safe area and lead away from tracks. If Falcore gets across tracks or through fence and then picks up the trail, he should then stay where the scenting is. Go to the papers and tell them about this, make it publicly known! Alert radio so everyone is looking for him. X

Surely a hole could be 'found' in the chain link fence as I'm sure local badgers or foxes would have already found a way through... Has anyone gone along the fence line wearing heavy duty footwear, a thick jacket and gloves to find a way in where some nice smelly tripe could be left with owners, friends, DL Helpers observing from afar?

His poor owner is at her wits end with no support from BTP or Network Rail who have now said they are closing the case as no sightings in the last 48 hours despite a train driver reporting seeing him yesterday. He probably got on the tracks from a station but hard to get back as platforms high. Poor boyX

Last sighted yesterday afternoon by a train driver possibly injured and getting weaker. So sad for the owner as seems to be getting minimal help from BTP or the rail people, times running out for poor FalcoreX

Network Rail will only go out between 0900 to 1800 and only if there's been a sighting. Sadly this is when he goes to ground. 15 days now he's been trapped and possibly injured, so hard for the familyX

OK cj. Ask Wayne to check for an access panel.There usually is one. They will only consider when dog is sighted on that stretch and an offer of payment would be needed as a crew of maintenance have to b present at all times till panel replaced .May b worth a try.

What type of fencing is it? If in panels could they get permission to remove one? Often they have a panel right next to post start of station.That would be simplest way of getting him out.

I was told direct that BTP are only authorised to deal with the permission from NWR so it is best that owner deals direct with NWR Or Wayne as they have already said would help once the dog is sighted.

Using a catch pole means dog has to be very close and not easy if dog is moving or running up and down tracks.
BTP are aware of this dog as are rail staff so those working along side the track will keep a look out.
Experienced Kent Helper Wayne has spoken with rail track and they will cooperate but can doing nothing unless sighted by someone close to the dog. They have also said if able they would contact Wayne to give him access depending where on the track it was. They cannot allow just anyone as have to be careful.
It needs owner and Wayne to work together with rail track to catch this dog safely. He has already spoken last night with owners and made similar suggestions to check the fencing and scent areas to make him interested in finding a hole to get back on the right side!

He's moving down the line spotted by a train driver between Merton South and Wimbledon Bridge so sounds like he's moving away from how he got on line. He's now not on the side of the rails so owner can now contact BTPX

There seems to be many trying to help and phoning owner direct with conflicting advice.
Any one going to track side is trespassing.you can go on the stations, platforms and safe crossing places: underpasses, public bridges, level crossings and public foot crossings, but you will be trespassing if you go on to the railway tracks, embankments or any other area – for any reason at any time.

The only exception is if you are told to go on the tracks by railway staff or the emergency services, for example if your train breaks down and you need to walk along the tracks to the nearest station.

You can be fined up to £1,000 if you trespass on the railway.
Ray is already aware of this dog and to come down and would be when sighted- best is the owner to get to area as soon as Falcore is sighted.
We have an experienced helper in Kent who has already spoken to owner last night offering advise.
Ray will get back if any more ideas other than those given to owner- but agrees best way is to scent along the fencing that is along side the rail area. Could drag scent using old tights dipped in tripe water. If Falcore has not eaten he will soon follow this smell.
Has the area been checked to see how he got onto the line- if there is a hole then scent very heavily towards the hole and leave food other side of the hole- which if the one he got though should be big enough for him to get back through.

Live rail apparently makes it too difficult to put a trap out.....Oscar the chihuahua (81187) was on the tracks in January and I believe they switched the power off while they trie dot get him, RSPCA and rescues won't come out unless the power. Gets switched off.....

It might be worth owner approaching network rail with a view to setting a trap baited with nice smelling food along the areas where sighted. They would need permission to do this. If the driver thinks dog cannot get through fence maybe worth checking from non line side along to see if any places broken as maybe got through it before then scent that area heavily to Falcore smells something familiar,owner, then finds a hole to get back home.

Have deleted it now as have spent last hour trying to find again and can't, grrr. It was saying about a dog being seen, and reported to Network Rail, at Morden Station which it looks like owners already know about anyway. Was trying to find it again to check dates etc but cannot find 😈. Will keep looking and update again if find. So sorry
