- I am beginning to think lexi has not been pts has we have come across a picture of her on lcdh re homing site and surely if she had been pts that picture would not of been put on there... Problem here is lcdh knew lexi was stolen and if they admit to re homing her for profit they have committed a criminal offence.... TORTS (interference with goods act)1977 there is lots of lovely people looking into this for me and I will find out wot really happened to my girl no animal deserves to be treated in that way its bloody disgusting wot lcdh do on a daily basis lying,,killings,,breeding,,not giving propa vet care the list is endless...thankyou to you all for all your help the fight is not over yet its only just beginning we will get the truth and justice for my lex weather she was pts or re homed Xxxx

- What is the rescues' reason for not scanning? Do they need scanners donated?
Or reliable volunteers who do nothing but scan all new animals?
In this instance though, the initial problem seems to be that Lexi WAS scanned by a vet but the chip company failed to act. - 2015-12-20 20:05 Skywalker99
- Take you point Jayne, but had LCDH bothered to scan Lexi they would have incurred minimal costs keeping her because she would have got home, they would have been able to keep another dog, grateful owner might have given them a donation. It makes no sense at all that rescues don't do a full body scan when a dog comes in....it would probably save them money and more dogs could avoid being pts.
- 2015-12-20 19:50 BorderCol
- Anibase could put some money into this. They were the ones trusted to reunite Lexi via her chip.
- 2015-12-20 12:32 Ellie
- This is absolutely disgraceful and heads need to roll!
- 2015-12-19 22:20 Sherlock- Area Co-ordinator & Police Liaison - Avon & South Gloucestersh
- God bless dear Lexi xx rescues must start to check websites in case these dogs are stolen....it is irresponsible and lazy. It's time a practice and procedure to check sites was followed by all rescues....there is no excuse when your have the power to PTS....you cannot play God and must try all efforts to find the owner ...it's just lazy and disrespectful ...Lexi will stay by your side and forever in your hearts ❤️

"We are a voice for the animals and the very many people that have been affected by the actions of LDCH and have in our possession, multiple testimonies detailing the cruelty, malpractice, mis-selling and mistreatment of animals at this establishment.”
J4LA says it wants to raise awareness of the way they say the home is operating and to have its status as a community interest company revoked.
Leigh Cats and Dogs Home was unavailable to comment on the vigil but has in the past labelled the allegations as “spurious comments on social media”.
The council is currently working with the RSPCA, Leigh Cats and Dogs Home and council enforcement teams to find a solution to the issues that have been raised.

- Sorry ...earlier message forgot to mention ...have to say our doglost investigation team are looking into this...and will update.
- 2015-12-19 19:44 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- I understand your frustrations....Its a long road..and we have been doing this for years...We have to offer the Umbrella to these over worked organizations....and ...If they accept...this is how we go forward...together...It is hard...But its the way to go....
A case history....
No names mentioned...
A rescue many years ago were reluctant to put found details of dogs and reluctant to let people in...as so many people criticise....After 6 months our local Co-ordinator gained their trust....she went in 1 day a week and took photos....they were amazed...the first time our wonderful co managed to go in and take photos....6 dogs were matched up with our lost dog reports....The kennels were amazed!
.....Now wait for this....
When our lovely helper took photos and put on doglost..this over worked rescue
Were inundated with requests to adopt...as the photos were on site...and as we all do we fall in love with a sad face....
OKAY HERE IS THE REALITY....
This rescue ...as most...do not have enough kennel space..and have to make the hard choice every week...to "free up space"
When we liased with them they admitted to having to put 10 dogs a week to sleep
SINCE THEY ARE WORKING TOGETHER WITH US..in the last 5 years they have put 3 dogs to sleep due to aggression.....now put that into perspective...2,500 dogs rehomed...That would have been put to sleep.
That's what we have to do...build bridges...so dogs have a chance....
- 2015-12-19 18:34 Skywalker99
- Jayne, I know doglost do a lot of good work with rescues, but in this case LCDH have given two completely different versions of events and only one of them can be the truth. Not telling the truth is not socially acceptable behaviour. Lets be charitable and say they made a mistake, if Jan has a relationship with them perhapsshe can establish what the facts are for Lexi's owner? I appreciate there are more dogs than rescue spaces but that does not make poor treatment of animals acceptable.
- 2015-12-19 17:52 sophiesuds
- I think LCDH are accountable or how many more are going to suffer this fate? There's a group of people who argue for bull breeds maybe they could take this on or a local MP should be made aware and the Councillors for the area as they work for them! Too many pets being puts too easily.
- 2015-12-19 17:49 Bobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
- I am so sorry to read this and my heart goes out to Lexi's family.
If the chip contact details were up to date, this should not have happened.
Sadly many people do not realise the extent of the number of dogs in rescue and centres do their best. Somehow something failed Lexi and she paid the ultimate price. Whatever happens now it will not bring her back. We just have to all work together as best we can for all the other Staffies and other dogs out there. It is particularly heartbreaking with Staffs because there are many missing and stolen with owners desperate for news and equally many or more that get dumped on the streets. I don't know the figures, but from my own observation and experience, I know this is the case.
We just have to keep going, do what we can for as many dogs and owners as we can. We all share the heartbreak of this tragedy. - 2015-12-19 17:26 Bo
- If Leigh were closed down then someone else would get the stray dog contract. They also breed dogs Jayne - what dog rescue breeds their own puppies? This business needs to be made accountable for its actions - it doesn't allow strays to go to other rescues which the majority of dog pounds do.
I'm local to this area - Leigh have had a poor reputation for years and will continue to do so unless someone grips it and does make changes or they lose the stray dog contract. - 2015-12-19 15:14 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- You can email on admin@doglost.co.uk mark attention Jayne...anyone that wants to help... any questions...may I put you in touch with each other? TX...as have to put missing dogs on site..tx
- 2015-12-19 15:04 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- I am going to say something that not all will agree with...But 13 years of listening to dog owners... rescues...kennels...dog wardens..police...etc...I think I am qualified...as indeed everyone who rang was..
The reality of the situation is Too many dogs ...too little rescue places...If you do a witch hunt and close them down...what happens to the other dogs?
We are trying desperately and successfully in getting pounds and rescues to register their found dogs with us...with an absolutely amazing reunited result...This obviously was not the result we wanted....However since Jan has made contact with them years ago...we have through their kind help reunited many dogs...
We have to work together and not attack... - 2015-12-19 12:29 Skywalker99
- It would be interesting to see what view a court would take on this, but I doubt Kayla or the owners of Bear have deep enough pockets to fund a test case against LCDH. One option could be to use the small claims court (easy and inexpensive), to recover the costs of searching for lexi for a year and some damages for distress. and let's not forget Anibases' and the vet who scanned lexi's culpability in this sad story. If they had acted as they should lexi would have been home and never have ended up in kennels.
- 2015-12-19 10:25 Unknown
- This is a very bad story, if everyone who sees this emails the council to register their disgust about these kennels it might just get something done, the council will not want adverse publicity and council members will be looking for re-election soon
- 2015-12-19 10:12 Chilebat
- Also if an animal is not checked to see if chipped, how can it then be lawfully right that the dog is then the property of the kennels where the dog has had the misfortune to end up in?
- 2015-12-19 08:54 Skywalker99
- If, as Neigbark says, they put dogs to sleep on 6th day they surely they are not complying with the law? I hope some of the protests and petitions achieve something.
- 2015-12-19 08:41 NickyB
- if this place has the council contract for strays and if I understand it correctly on the 8th day the dog is gifted - their word not mine - to the kennel owners who are then free to do whatever they want with the dog ........
with regard to leigh cats and dogs home there have been many exposures over the past few years of the awful things that happen at this place.last sunday a demo was held outside the premises by animal lovers to try and get new publicity for this place. - 2015-12-18 22:34 Chilebat
- This should never have happened. Rest in peace beautiful Lexi, my thoughts are with your owner x Due to comments I have read in the past about Leigh Dogs & Cats Home, whenever I have seen a found animal online and it says that is where they are going it fills me with dread, having read the post by Neighbark it will even more now.
- 2015-12-18 22:27 susieq666
- This sort of story disgusts me. If anyone does start a petition, let me know. But I would definitely agree - get legal advice. I'm sure, if money is needed for this, it could be raised. Is there, perchance, a dog-loving legal person on here?
- 2015-12-18 22:04 BorderCol
- Then I hope he is reported to the Veterinary Council for professional misconduct in having negligently destroyed microchipped dogs without seeking the owners permission. He should be struck off and prevented from working anywhere.
- 2015-12-18 20:18 Neighbark
- I've been following this Leigh Dog & Cat Home for a few years, and unfortunately everything written and a lot more is true.
They often destroy dogs before 6 days. They seem to destroy older/staffies/ least appealing very quickly, and certainly don't bother scanning. ( even though they sell microchipping services). They keep small scruffies/appealing/pedigrees to sell/ rehome, which can happen around day 5 or 6.
They don't spay/deworm/ de- flea/ scan or do home checks. They breed from mixed pedigrees and sell. They charge the public to walk round. They destroy a number of young unsuccessful greyhounds for owners and the charge I'm told us £25.
If you join and look on the local buy and sell group for the area- 'Wigan Buy& Sell Group', You will read many comments from local people. One lady says her staffy was taken there last summer, after 4 days she found they had the dog, - they said they'd already rehomed it, but them advertised the dog on their website. I believe that like Lexi, and like another dog called 'Bear' - that the LDCH had destroyed these microchipped dogs after only a few days.
There are a few Facebook groups trying to get the Wigan council to close the Leigh.
Just type 'Leigh dogs home ' in search to find. One is 'Raise awareness for Leigh dogs and cats' ...another is 'justice for Bear'.... And there are more.
A local person searching for her missing dog ( on Wigan buy and sell group) says the LDCH is run by 2 sisters, one is married to the vet who puts all the dog to sleep.

- What an appalling story. Like everyone else on here, I hope it turns out to be untrue and Lexi can yet be found.
In these situations, where ( presumably) a vet is asked to destroy a healthy dog that is not in the hands of a known owner, shouldn't the vet also have some responsibility to scan the dog first? - 2015-12-18 19:21 digbysmum
- Absolutely disgusting. This place needs to be closed down. I am so very sorry this has had such a sad outcome. My thoughts are with Kayla, who does have a kind of closure. Run free at the bridge beautiful Lexi xxxx
- 2015-12-18 19:20 Unknown
- Disgusting!!! I do hope you get some sort of answers....Run Free at the Bridge Gorgeous Lexi..... so very sorry Kayla xx

- Kayla. Do you think it might be worth getting Lexi story published in Dogs Today magazine? xx
- 2015-12-18 17:00 Doglover
- Having spoken to you today Kayla, you can see the support you are getting from all of us who put comments on Doglost. Make sure the paper run a story on what has happened and tell them what people on Doglost are saying about LCDH. Also people on Facebook as well (not that I do it) as you know. These Kennels are a disgrace to all of the good kennels that are out there helping rescued animals. It is disgusting. Once again God bless you and your family and RIP sweet Lexi. Xxxx
- 2015-12-18 16:56 charlie and sooty
- OMG...This is outrageous. LCDH and wigan council need to be fully investigated, and LCDH closed. My heart is broken and I really feel for you Kayla. You must seek legal advise, we will be with you all the way. (I wish I was sevvy enough to start a petition, to send to parliament, but I am hopeless with things that)..My thoughts and prayers are will you Kayla xx. Run Free Lexi at Rainbow Bridge xx

- I am so sorry - RIP LEXIE. The so called Manager needs to lose her job over this. The home has a very bad reputation and it's time that the staff were bought to task over this. I will sign anything to help get this woman out !!
- 2015-12-18 16:29 Rachel - Bucks volunteer
- Kayla, I am so very, very sorry if this is the outcome.
Please ensure you get proof of this action as they may be just trying to avoid the problems which will arise from them rehoming her.
What a complete failure of all processes and procedures from all of those who came into contact with Lexi. I am truly aghast at the pitiful excuses and buck passing which has gone on too. My heart goes out to you. x - 2015-12-18 16:15 Skywalker99
- This is the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/justiceforstraydogs
- 2015-12-18 16:12 Bo
- The manageress at Leigh is generally unpleasant and rude - I've collected dogs in the past from there (people have paid to get them out and go to a decent rescue) - the rest of the staff (that I've dealt with) are very nice. Nothing to do with a guilty conscious - there is an active group trying to shut them down - they're obviously cheap contract wise which is why the councils use them (cheapest bidder)
- 2015-12-18 16:08 skyninchar
- there is a facebook page set up for those people who have had bad experiences at LDCH including bear who was put to sleep without contacting the owners that he had been found and euthanised as a dangerous dog, im not sure of the page as im not a member, but lots of talk about this kennels whom wigan council are Licensing authority for the premises
- 2015-12-18 16:01 Unknown
- Kayla If the manager (Woman) was aggressive then she mjust have a guilty conscience. As has already bee said, please seek legal advice, and: GET JUSTICE FOR LEXI. AND YOURSELF ("Chips" should be checked")
- 2015-12-18 15:58 Esther
- I am so sorry. What a nightmare for the owners. This is totally unforgiveable
- 2015-12-18 15:51 Unknown
- LDCH are an absolute disgrace, and should be closed down. If they are animal lovers, I`m the Queen of Egypt Saying that if as believed Lexi was stolen, then the culprit is as much to blame. He/she should have their hands cut off.
So sorry for your loss of Lexi. I feel your pain; Nightie night Lexi, sleep tight, and have fun with Judy (Staffie girl) who is waiting to play. RIP+ God Blessx A~~~Candle~~~burns for you. Run freex(HUG) One day you will meet Lexi at the bridge, and you will never be parted againLast edited: 2015-12-18 15:52:53 - 2015-12-18 15:31 Karis
- blood on their hands yet again-so very sorry Kayla-lies and more lies from the'not for profit'LCDH-its a limited company, there will be profits alright.
- 2015-12-18 14:11 Rose
- OMG that is devestating news. She wouldnt have been in kennels if she was checked for a m/chip! x
- 2015-12-18 13:40 Doglover
- Oh No Kayla. I was devastated to read this news on Lexi. Because they tell so many lies apparently, are you sure they have done this? I agree with Skywalker99 and agree that you should still follow up on the data request. I am so sorry. Xxx
- 2015-12-18 13:00 Skywalker99
- Skyninchar, does this mean they could be lying about the PTS? Yvonne Fovargue is the MP for LCDH, owner (and anyone else who feels like it)needs could write to her. Read on FB their reason was 'she was difficult to handle in kennels', doesn't quite fit with the no destruction policy. If Lexi were mine I would insist on LCDH complying with the data request form I sent...although I would understand if she did not want to do this.
- 2015-12-18 12:29 skyninchar
- This is the worst news possible, but LDCH do have a reputation for telling lies and more lies and forgetting what lies they have told, did they give a reason for PTS as they have a rehoming section?? I am devastated for your loss if what they have said is true xx For your information, maybe worth following up, Leigh apparently have a No destruct policy in place
Leigh Dogs and Cats Home is a Not for Profit Organisation and we have a No Destruction Policy for All Animals - we endeavour to find all dogs and cats suitable new homes no matter how long it takes. Established in 1974 by Norman Clements, Leigh Dogs and Cats Home provides care for dogs, cats and various other pets throughout the north west.Last edited: 2015-12-18 12:37:32 by skyninchar - 2015-12-18 12:11 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
- Kayla was gutted to get your msg. :(
So sad to be moving LEXI over to Rainbow Bridge. Deepest thoughts are with LEXI and KAYLA who has worked so hard to find out what has happened.
THANK YOU to everyone who has been involved in getting answers not the outcome we all wanted to hear.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

- Thanks Doglover for helping to get coverage, when liaising with Kayla earlier today said media is needed, someone may recognise LEXI and make that most important call to say where she is.
Well done everyone for the support which has been so helpful to Kayla who has been doing a great job and is a credit of an owner to LEXI. - 2015-12-15 23:42 Doglover
- Hi Kayla, I am so pleased that I phoned your local newspaper and that they are following it up on your story. I knew it would help by telling them about LCDH investigations, or I mean that I knew all the way down in Essex. As Skywalker says make sure they sign to say they have received the form and anything else you get regarding them make sure it is writing and is signed. I am not about tomorrow, but I will phone you on Thursday if that is ok. Brilliant it is now all happening. X

- Kayla, after speaking to you I telephoned the Leigh Observer and gave them details saying wouldn't,t it be nice for a little girl to get her dog back before Christmas. Told them about LDCH and how they re homed a stolen dog and would not tell you where Lexi had gone. They have taken your mobile number, the one you rang me back on and said if they decide to run the story they will phone you. I told them I knew LDCH were under investigation at moment, so this might make your story a bit more interesting. My ex was a journalist and I know they like stories where they can add fuel to the fire, if you know what I mean. Xxx I hope they phone you.

- Kayla, when you go to LCDH make sure you make a great big fuss and speak to the Manager!!!!! Tell them unless they help you, you Re going to the Press with this story, I am sure they will not like that. As Lexi was stolen it is their duty to give you the name of where she was re homed and if they do not, threaten them with going to a Solicitor. Xxxx

- Oh Kayla. It is one disaster after the other. Firstly, the chip company did not notify you that Lexi had been found and then LCDH obviously did not scan Lexi before re homing her otherwise they would have seen she had been stolen. I think once you have her back, you will have a few complaints to make to these two companies. X

- Thank you Kayla for update. Did LCDH not scan for a chip!!!Lets hope that LCDH can make contact with "new" owner and that they are willing to reunite Lexi with her rightful owner. I feel that some sort of action needs to be taken against Anibase..Good Luck xx

- Kayla thanks for posting an update, you have been doing a great job and the support has been amazing. It is a start that you know she may have been REHOMED and hopefully new owner can be traced. We are all rooting for you. x

- Sorry i am a bit confused. Owner found out that on 10.6.2014 the vets told the Chip Co. that Lexi was a found dog. Owner states that Lexi has not been scanned for details since vets on 13.3.2014. Why would a vet ring 3 months after they scanned Lexi to pass this information on. Is it a possibility that these are two different vets?
- 2015-12-12 21:46 BorderCol
- What is Anibase prepared to do about this? They will find themselves very short of customers if their unreliability becomes widely known........
- 2015-12-12 18:04 Hollieberry
- Did the finder of Lexi leave the dog with the vet ?
- 2015-12-12 17:56 Kit'sMum
- Sorry, there's something I don't understand here. Under normal procedures for a found dog is it up to the vet to contact the chip company and then for the chip company to contact the owner rather than the vet?

- Unbelievable! I thought the point of animals having a microchip is to get them back home. Kayla states she rings the chip company every week and yet it has taken 21 months for her to find out the dog was found taken to a vet shortly after stolen! If she was not logged through dog warden then must accept the person who took her to the vet simply took her home? Yes it would be great if whoever has her comes forward. Good luck x

- Shared to various, including rescue/rehoming sites. Hoping someone somewhere will know something. I agree with you Doglover, it is very worrying that the chip co never contacted Lexi owner, Yes contact local newspaper and radio. Hope you hear news soon. All paws crossed xx
- 2015-12-11 17:35 kayla
- Hi yes lexi has not been scanned for details since the vets on 13th march 2014 she has not been through any kennel system so I can only hope and pray that whoever has took her is treating her well xx
- 2015-12-11 16:54 Doglover
- How worrying is that, that the chip company never contacted owner that Lexi had been found. Disgusting. Hopefully someone will recognise Lexi as the dog that they now have, but surely during nearly a year , whoever has her would have taken her to vets for something or the other. Past social media as much as you Cana d maybe run a story in your local area and maybe radio, someone must remember something. Have you contacted RSPCA and see if they re homes Lexi. X

- Owner has only found out YESTERDAY 10.12.15 that on 10.06.14 vets told the Chip Co that LEXI was a FOUND dog and she was alive and well. LEXI has been registered STOLEN since March 2014. Owner was never contacted with this info and does contact the Chip Co on a regular basis for any updates.
