Just done a little research and looks like the dog was reunited the same day, possibly what Svend has suggested. Below is the comment.

A bit of a long shot, but 9 years ago my wife found a black lab puppy in Alderbury - turned out it belonged to the people off Lights Lane, 250m due south of Old Chapel Close.
