- Rest in peace dear Bear, my thoughts are with your family x Yet another law that needs looking into to protect dogs from these people who think they have the right to do this, I do know that not all farmers act like this

- Absolutely heartbreaking. This happens so many times - I agree with Rose - why can't they fire a warning shot? I am so very very sorry, and my thoughts are with the family at this most distressing time. Run free at the bridge beautiful Bear xxxx

- So sorry to hear of this tragedy.

- OMG, I hate reading these sad stories. How awful for the farmer to say a police marksman shot him but then admitted he did so himself and buried him. What livestock were on the farm that the farmer had to shoot him? Why couldnt he have fired in the air and Bear would have run away. I agree with Skywalker. This isnt going to make any difference to poor Bear but it might help further incidents. So sad for your loss x

- Think owners should consider reporting to the RSPCA, and if he didn't report to the police within 48 hours he can not rely on his defence should owners bring proceedings. The fact that he lied would count against him as well. http://www.fwi.co.uk/farm-life/your-legal-rights-on-shooting-dogs-on-your-land.htm Owner should also consider reporting to the police who may choose to review the farmers uitability for a firearms certificate.Last edited: 2015-12-23 14:11:23 by Skywalker99

- The farmer is a liar then Sophiesuds. I k now it can be within a farmers rights, but have never understood why they cant just use a stun gun or such like. My heart goes out to Bear`s family. - I'm so sorry about Bear. There are indeed a lot of trigger happy people in the countryside and it can rarely be proved they were acting within their rights. It's a law that wants looking at again.

- I am so sorry about Bear. It is unforgivable to brag about what has been done, but please remember there are good and bad people in all walks of life. We farm and I know that when a dog goes missing near to us the local farmers will always look out for them and try to help. RIP Bear, my thoughts are so much with your owners at this terrible time.

- Oh how tragic - that is disgusting. Too many farmers are trigger happy and it needs to be addressed! I am so very, very sorry to hear about Bear. RIP darling. Run happy and free at the Bridge beautiful sweetheart xxxx

- He may not have been within his rights...the law is quite specific about when they can shoot dogs...but nothing will bring Bear back and I don't suppose the police would be interested...press might run a story and shame farmer.

- Shame on that farmer! He was within his rights, but to brag about it, lie to the owner and show no compassion is unforgivable. What goes around comes around. RIP lovely Bear xxx

- Oh my God. How awful, why was this beautiful dog Shot!!!! So very very sorry for the owners and of course for Bear. RIP sweet Bear.

- Evidently he wasn't just shot, the farmer originally told owner police marksman shot him! After questioning the farmer he told her he had shot Bear and buried him. Think eventually they managed to get him back home to be buried where he belongs. Farmer was bragging originally about killing bear. Poor owners.
