Contact Doglost email or phone so they can investigate further using the photo. Someone is probably going through hell worrying about their lost dog. Thanks for promising an update.

A man was kind enough to take a photo of the dog being walked by the travellers, but I can confirm it was not Alvin (However, it does look like someone elses stolen dog, should I send someone the photo?).

There have been 3 sightings so far of Alvin look alikes: wexford, dundalk, rathkeale. But none so far have been Alvin. When (or if) Alvin is found, I will update this wall ASAP. If no update is made, you can safely assume he is still missing.

Thanks for all your help :)

With reference to the rough collie description, mine are always being called Lassie dogs. That's how the public think, so speaking to a liason officer is a very good idea. A Sheltie will not take too well to living with someone else, so it looks to me to be not belonging to those lads.
Jaycey
Is there a Liason officer who could speak to travellers about the sighting? Hope Alvin is back home very soon xx

That's an interesting comment of a similar dog being walked by travellers. Definitely worth following up ASAP. If on a street there may be CCTV.

For anyone following, I received a possible sighting "Yesterday in rathkeale co Limerick there was a dog just like this on street with bit rope around his neck in company of 3 young traveler boys around ten years old. It was clear the dog did not belong to the boys! This is worth looking in to"

All the sheltie community over here in the UK is on the look out. The English Shetland Sheepdog Club knows about him too.

I put as much information up as I know. This is my neighbours dog, but I knew the dog well. I saw his name was not on the site, so I put it up for them. To clarify, none of the dogs, that have been spotted and shared so far on Facebook have been Alvin. Thank you for your continuing help!

This breed is not particularly common so hopefully someone will notice a sheltie new in their area, hope you find her soon x

That is very worrying and yes possibly to the UK mainland. He does need to be blitzed over here, I wish people would put more detail on Doglost instead of purely Facebook which is not everyone's central lost dog website.

I have just found this posted by the next door neighbour to other pet lost groups in the UK which confirms he is a Shetland Sheepdog. Looked at her Facebook sight and saw further pictures. --- Alvin has been missing since the beginning of December. I presume he has been stolen because he is (approx 3/4 year old) a pure bred dog (shetland sheep dog), and he was wearing a collar with his home details on it. I am scared and worried that he may have fallen into the wrong hands, he is a very friendly family dog. He went missing outside Newry, Northern Ireland. I believe some dogs in the past where stolen and can be sent to Great Britain. I just want to put his photo out there as much as possible, in the hope he is found and rescued. If anyone reading could share this photo on other pages in England/Scotland/Wales that would be very helpful as I do not know where the popular pages are. Thank you so much.

The found dog has been reunited so sadly not Alvin.

Could someone check this found rough collie please on Dogs Lost Found and Stolen in the UK. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=940413589382671&set=a.660822980675068.1073741827.100002421151804&type=3&theater

I think you're right.

One site has listed him as a rough Collie - which it shows as being when you share this page. There has been a post on Facebook by the owners next door neighbour stating it is a Shetland Sheepdog. It could be either but looking at the tiles on the floor to do a size estimation - compared with my 2 Shetland sheepdogs - in my opinion it is more likely to be a Shetland Sheepdog..

Just noticed on the Facebook link he's stated as being a Rough Collie. Is he a larger Sheltie or a Rough Collie?
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
I suspect he will be lying low with the bad weather at the moment and possibly not too far away. Always a softly. softly approach with a Sheltie when trying to catch them. Have shared.
