- Great to read this lovely dog has been reunited and came to no harm. If you put your hand through the loop of your lead so it rests on the back of your wrist and then close the palm of your hand over the lead it gives you a much stronger grip if a dog suddenly yanks the lead as your hand naturally tightens. I walked many strong dogs as a rescue volunteer and felt completely happy I had them safe like that. Holding a lead just in your palm and fingers is not a strong grip in emergencies. Extending-leads in a built up area are something we also advise against, you can`t grip these and if they get pulled out of your hand it is even worse as the dog has it banging along behind and it can get caught up. Hope that helps when Bear continues his walks, and he has a brilliant life with his family, all the best to you and well done to everyone who got him safely home again! - He went missing due to something spooking him and him running off pulling the lead out of his owners hand and continuing to run with his lead still on. She ran after him but he was too fast
