This evening I saw a similar dog with red fabric collar in Holt, Norfolk. She was wandering near a road so we approached a local resident who kindly took her and said he would call the police. The dog was older looking than your pic.

Have retweeted the Sussex Express article to a few twitter pages today in the hope that the info will keep circulating. Ruby is out there somewhere ..... hoping for news for her family soon x

Hi Reynard, I just checked with the owner as I had the same •wishful thought but she said it's not Ruby as her nose is black :-(

Thanks ClaireC for following up on the deceased dog. Sad ending for the owners of Lady though :(
However, obviously glad that it is not Ruby and yes, the search continues for her.
Im sure Melanie will let us know if there is any news or a sighting.
Fingers crossed for Ruby .. she has to be somewhere, but where???
ClaireC
I can now confirm that the deceased dog is not Ruby. The search for this lovely girl continues. Xx
ClaireC
Awaiting on a report from Network Rail re deceased dog. When more info is known will update further.
ClaireC
I have spoken with owner re the deceased dog found on railway near them. Owner will check with Railtrack staff.

Such a shame she hasnt been found. Wonder how she is getting on without her medication x

DAY 24 - STILL NO WORD ON RUBY

These 3 weeks have passed in a total blur. Ruby still hasn't been found and no new sightings to report at all, despite huge efforts from so many wonderful people. We are baffled and devastated that we haven't received 'the call' that brings her home, but won't give up hoping or searching. Ruby is an older lady who requires twice daily medication. If you think you may have seen her, please, please get in touch. Thank you!
.
I completely understand and respect what you say, especially as you have the experience of the dog tracker who will know the best way to approach this. The no1 priority is for Ruby to be reunited with you asap xxLast edited: 2016-02-02 18:35:22 by .
Wonderous
Thank you for the detailed update, very useful for people following Ruby. So hope she is home soon, its a terrible time for all her family.
DogLostNina
Would you consider using a drone there must be an owner of a drone who could help. It might cut done on the leg work.
Melanie Beck
My first update on here for a few days. My apologies for the lack of information, but the reason is that there is simply nothing more to report. This does NOT mean that we have forgotten about Ruby at all. Nor does it mean that the searches are not continuing. Please know that we are doing all we can here - some of which we can't and won't make public upon expert advice. Many, many posters are up (although we could always use more), local businesses, shops, groups, governing bodies, authorities and media have been informed. We are confident that word of Ruby is widespread from the positive feedback we have been getting from nearly every person we have stopped to ask when out searching. It may seem that we aren't doing much, but please know that we are. We very much appreciate everything everyone is doing to try and bring Ruby home. We are in almost daily contact with many people we had never met before who are wishing to help. But right now Ruby is probably not ready to be found. We have been told by several experts that we could even push her further away outside of her current 'loops' if she feels pressured. We really appreciate everyone's concern and keeping Ruby on the radar, but please also understand that the 'full on' approach may not be the best thing right now. The possible sighting on Sunday was followed up and believed to be not correct. We have absolutely no intention of calling Jenny and Tiga down here on a wild goose chase, which is what we believe it would be right now, sadly. Please, please, please do not contact Jenny yourselves requesting for her to come down and track. As soon as we need Jenny, WE will contact her and we know she'll answer and come. We also do not believe Ruby has been stolen, therefore feel a reward is unnecessary at this stage. Ruby is an older lady, covered in small to medium size benign tumours. We continue to hope daily for the phone call that gives us the lead we are waiting for. Our sincere and very grateful thanks to everyone who continues to follow the search for Ruby. Thank you!!
Sussexsandie
Hi sorry in the delay in getting these details to you .... Harvey's Army South phone number is 07738830495 & email is harveysarmy@yahoo.co.uk. A contact there is Nicki Scriven and her phone number is 07816492791.
I hope this is helpful 😊. Ruby is out there somewhere and needs to come home x
Baydogs
You all seem to being doing such a good job and working so hard here to find Ruby. You are all amazing. May I also suggest you try your local radio station? They might even run it as a little feature, considering the circumstances. Sorry that I am too far away to be a foot soldier. Wishing her home safe and soon x
Jenni
Hi Freddie 12 Looks like a lady posted the day 8 update but nothing since and a very busy site so if you don't mind updating Harvey army every so often that would be great.
Jenni
Just saw Twitter @theharveyarmy too but that seemed to be mostly about their petition whereas the FB page seemed to be more about the missing cats and dogs.
Jenni
Freddie 12. I saw Harvey's Army South have a FB page. The link https://www.facebook.com/groups/HarveysArmySouth/ Last edited: 2016-02-01 15:04:36 by Jenni
firecracker773
I totally agree Claire...it's the first possible sighting in over a week...maybe there's a fresh scent up there.
.
Sussex Sandie - do you ahve any contact details for Harvey's Army? Not heard of them before . Thank you, if you u can send something through on here I can sort. Emma
Claire Letang
Is there any way that Jenny and Yogi could come out now that there's been a possible sighting in Juggs Road?
Sussexsandie
Has Harvey's Army been informed so that she can be added to their list for the South ?
Jenni
Ideally we need both: awareness on Twitter and FB plus posters in public places.
.
Haven't done much on fbook, could try that a bit more. Just did some ramblers and walkers today and people I could see had been on Downs this weekend. Would that help or do u think concentrate on posters.
.
Is it worth me making a list of who I have tweeted in lewes or does it not make much difference?
.
Yes totally agree Claire letang, the social media is only secondary to primary stuff like the posters which will be invaluable. I've only been able to do social media as I am so far away but what I was doing was tweeting local businesses and asking them to put up a poster. It's a long shot though and maybe if anyone is local and could go into shops / etc locally that would be very helpful if the owner thinks a good idea. Think there is a library, places like that would be good, on notice boards etc. The sighting near Juggs rd must have been her and is so recent she really can't be far away. Just hope she is safe somewhere til she is foundLast edited: 2016-02-01 23:41:19 by .
firecracker773
Sounds as though the tracker dog won't be used again until someone actually sees her, to get a fresh scent. I can get some posters around Lewes in the next couple of days..I'll focus on the area around Juggs Road, Lewes Prison (she was tracked here a couple of times I think) and the Housedean area too.
Jenni
Im happy to contribute for a reward if we think it will motivate. Otherwise as a few have said poster are key. We need those who aren't necessarily online and might be around much of the day to be the eyes and ears for those of us who are working and can't get over except for weekends.
Claire Letang
What was the exact information about a red cocker being seen in Juggs Road? That sounds really hopeful. I really think there need to be posters all over Lewes especially near where she went missing. Social media is great but not everyone's on it.
.
Just copying this from facebook -

"DAY 16 - RUBY IS STILL MISSING

Still no further confirmed sightings of Ruby. A phone call this afternoon about a red cocker being spotted yesterday at a property at the top of Juggs Road has been followed up but the owners of the home don't recall seeing her
πŸ˜”
Thanks to the fab team on Twitter, Ruby is still getting lots of air-time - and she made the Sussex Express on Friday too! As we enter week 3, we really need a positive sighting so we can start on her trail again. Please keep sharing Ruby. Your share may be the one that gets us the breakthrough we need"

I've managed to message a few groups on Facebook who seem to visit the area, dog walkers , farmers etc - asked them all to look out for her... there is a SouthDownsNationalPark page so I have put a post on there, it seems to be where people put their photos up when they have been. It's such a massive area isn't it.
firecracker773
Thanks Jenni, have sent you an email with my details on there. CCTV is a good idea; I don't think there are any general street cameras in Kingston but there may be some houses which have them.
DogLostRiverlady
still circulating on twitter.
Jenni
What's the CCTV situation for homes at Rottingdean, Kingston, Lewes and Peacehaven where they back onto the Diwns? Just wondering if we could ask whoever monitors the CCTV for any sightings from now on in especially if they are monitoring at night?
Jenni
Hi firecracker773. Thanks for helping. My email address is jennibell5@aol.com. Feel free to send info there. See you tomorrow πŸ™‚
firecracker773
Hi Jenni, yes absolutely. I don't have access to a printer myself so that would be great. I can take some and get them photocopied in Lewes to put around the town too. Do you have a way I can get my address to you privately? I am working from home tomorrow night until 10pm.
Jenni
Hi Firecracker773. My friend Lynn and I are printing and laminating some posters and will put some up on the notice boards in Kingston tomorrow evening. Would you mind if we drop some to you to pin up elsewhere in Kingston as I believe you're local to Kingston? Like you im hoping she's staying closer to home with this weather and so important for people to check gardens sheds and outbuildings as if she is savvy she'll be staying dry somewhere!Last edited: 2016-01-31 14:20:28 by Jenni

I've just contacted the Brighton & Hove division of www.ramblers.org.uk to ask them if they can offer any suitable and safe routes to take on the Downs behind Kingston and up from Rottingdean and also if a member would be willing to guide us on a walk if we were able to arrange a search. I wouldn't feel confident leading a search on the Downs as I never go up there unless with other experienced walkers.
.
Feedback for Jenni, had some good RTs this a.m on Twitter from UKClimbing [18400 followers], MyOutdoors [15900] and also Eat Brighton [19400] plus TotalTravelSe [29100]. the contacing ramblers idea is simply genius. i wish so much that I had thought of this before as from googling a couple of things I could see that many groups had walks organised on The Downs yesterday. Damn! At least you spoke to some of them anyway. My Dad is in a rambling group, they are based in kent but they do The South Downs every so often. It's contacing the right people and getting the message to their members that is hard as they are not all internet savvy. I've emailed a few anyway. It might be an idea to send a plea to these groups if a search is organised, they might even offer to lead a search party - they will have all sorts of maps etc and be very experienced. As you say Firecracker773 I don't want to tread on anyones either or bulldoze but time is of the essence and I would be willing to come by train and help if I can. The weather does look bleak next few days :-( Poor Ruby xLast edited: 2016-01-31 11:37:50 by .
firecracker773
Is there any way of Jenny and Yogi doing another track this week? I've had a look on their webpage but can't find a way of contacting them other than submitting a lost dog report and I can't see any way on here of contacting posters individually. Has Ruby's owner planned another track with you, Jenny? If not, is there a chance we could get something with her scent on and go this week? I am around when I'm not working and would be very happy to come along or organise something. I'm just worried that soon a scent of Ruby's might die out and of course, the longer we have no clue where she is, the greater the risk for her. I don't want to step on anyone's toes so if her owner has already planned this then great. But if not, could we do one? How much does it cost? There's another horrible weather day here tomorrow afternoon...these storms keep on coming up so I'm wondering if she's actually quite close to home. The weather may have put her off travelling far. Anyway, hope I'm not bulldozing here but I really, really feel we need a scent if possible as lots of us are going on random walks with no real idea of where to head to be helpful.
Sarah
Yesterday I did a 9 mile loop from Rottingdean putting up posters as I went, checked out a few of the abandoned buildings and had a chat to some locals and walkers who will look out for her, I am a member of a walking group so they are all aware and are looking out for her too.
.
PS About 6.5million people have now seen her on Twitter. Even had an enquiry from a concerned lady in Texas yesterday wanting to know if there was any news.
.
brilliant idea, Jenni. Only just seen message. I have tweeted every group I could think of or find easily. I've also emailed the ones that didn't seem to have twitter. I don't do a lot on facebook, does anyone else? Might be worth also sharing on there. Agree that the more posters the better on all routes and if possible on notice boards. Sounds like there are a lot of foot soldiers out there at weekend who could all be looking out for Ruby, I'm sure people would be only too pleased to help. Done my best for now but off to bed. Please come out of hiding Ruby xLast edited: 2016-02-02 13:13:29 by .
Jenni
Could the lovely lady organising Twitter reach out to ramblers association and perhaps any kind of running association as we saw ramblers and runners today who could also be looking out.
Jenni
Went with friend to the top of the avenue and walked round up near hills behind Kingston. Didn't do very well as we are not local and really didn't know where to go. Met a group of ramblers just about to ramble who said they would look out. The locals I met didn't know about Ruby and no posters at any of the 3 local notice boards in Kingstonnor on some of the bridleway gates. Im happy to come out again next week but feel we non locals need some coordination from someone who knows the area and could help organise a group search, perhaps after the tracker dog has picked up fresh scent so we have an area to work from.
Claire Letang
Did a loop out from the back of Saltdean into Rottingdean and put up a lot more posters. An awful lot of people do know about her. I'm going on street life to spread the word about getting more posters up
firecracker773
I'm going on the Downs behind Kingston (as that's where I live). I was in Lewes this morning and I didn't see any posters either...I don't have access to a printer but I could try the Library (they'll have to be black and white though). There is a really good spread of info on social media but not everyone is on social media so a lot more posters may really help. I'll try and get them done tomorrow.
Claire Letang
We're going to walk from Rottingdean ( top of Dean Court Road) which is where the tracker dog stopped last Sunday evening. Will go as far into the Downs as daylight will allow. Am also going to get a lot more posters up in that area. Maybe more posters around Saltdean and Telscmbe and Peacehaven would be good idea. I was in Lewes town centre yesterday and didn't see any eitherπŸ˜”
firecracker773
Are there any search parties being organised this weekend? Is the tracker dog going out again? I'd like to go and search for her but it would be helpful to know if any specific areas are being covered so I can go to another area, or if her scent has been picked up by the tracker dog. I can't see any mention of searches/routes anywhere. Does anyone know anything? I hate to think of her still out there, especially after the dreadful weather yesterday.
Pops
Thanks Freddie. In the same boat as you, in Bedfordshire!Hopefully someone local will try.
.
night vision goggles is a brilliant idea,[Pops] National Geographic make some [son has] and they are not v expensive. We are in Herts so a bit far away or I would go out now! Great idea and just might crack it. And Rose,. I agree, it's incredible that nobody has seen her. We've contacted so many local businesses etc the word must have spread far and wide. Zoe Ball has just Retweeted, she is very local to the area so am hoping that might reach some more local people too - and Willie Thorne has been in touch too [snooker player!] .... all paws crossed here now
Pops
Maybe someone has a night time infra red camera to see if she is in local fields if she is only travelling at night time? Just an idea.
Rose
I cannot believe Ruby hasnt been seen with so many people following her, 3.4k shares! Come on Ruby show yourself you need to go home x
.
Davina McCall, Gail Porter Brighton Mag and Ben Fogle have RTd the twitter campaign today. Now been shared to over 6.2million people. Please let one of them be on The Downs / in the area and find Ruby safe and well
DogLostNina
Has anyone got a drone that could be used in the search for Ruby or are there any clubs or organisations in the area.
Claire Letang
Sarah
The posters were up in those places on Tuesday morning when I was out looking. I was amazed that they were up in the middle of nowhere!
I've just got back from walking across the Downs from the back of Telscombe/ Saltdean. I saw 4 horse riders and they ALL knew about Ruby. Also a couple of dog walkers who also knew.
A search party at the weekend I think would be a good idea because it is a pretty vast area.
Come on Ruby.
Sarah
I did go upto Dean Court Road on Monday and put posters up unless somebody has taken them down I also walked out went to Balsdean rise up the lane past the farm and put posters up along the track. Will go out this weekend and look around that area again, although fingers crossed she will be home before then.

Lovely to see so many people supporting Melanie. Thanks so much, it's really appreciated.
Great job being done on Twitter @justemmapratt. Thanks!
Always worth searching even though Ruby seems to be hiding herself well as it's a good opportunity to hand out posters as well.
Really important to have posters up everywhere (especially places that tracker dog has been) so very grateful for anyone who would help with this.
Just need another sighting (or 2) so we know where Ruby is at the moment.

Hi Melanie, still supporting u from afar and wishing Ruby home safely as soon as poss. I'm @justemmpratt on twitter. The Magician Dynamo is in Brighton from Weds for a few days, he sent you a message saying he hopes she is home soon and he Retweeted to his 2.4million followers. The word is out there on the internet. Have also reached a further 350,000+ who are def much more local to area. Hoping your tracker team can get out again soon and see if there is a fresh scent to follow. Will do anything I can from here. currently trying to get the local papers to run the story so we can reach local people who may not have the internet and may not already be aware. Imagine if she has been taken in by a kind old lady who has no idea you are looking for her. Going to make a big wish before I go to sleep tonight xLast edited: 2016-01-26 23:03:02 by .

Me and a friend went over to Rottingdean this am around 615 and had a look round Dean Court Road. Too dark to see in field but no sightings roundabout. No posters
up there so happy to go back there one evening this week to post unless someone can go in the day. I'm in Brighton and don't know area well but happy to come out and help if there is a search this weekend. But crossing fingers she's home before then!
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Thank you to all of you putting up posters in the area. That's what we need. Victoria B Yogi tracked to that burger van last Tuesday after having tracked up on top and on way back to stables. He also tracked past the Juggs pub in Kingston on his way from the stables before going up on the downs. There is a farm just past the pub on the left that has two gates , one in front of the other and Yogi wanted to go through the first but there was no way he could get through the next. The owners of the farm said they thought something had been in the first gate. Yes we will be back, it was such a shame we had to call it a night when Yogi was so strong to follow the footpath from Dean Close.
Pops
we put posters up on Sunday in Kingston garden centre, Iford,Telscombe Village, Rodmell, Piddinghoe & Northease. We do not live locally (100 miles away) but so hoping Ruby comes home safely to you. Maybe someone local can get some more posters printed for Lewes area shops.
Claire Letang
Just got back from walking up towards Balsdean Farm from Rottingdean and then beyond up towards Woodingdean. There were several posters up there in the middle of nowhere!
I was also wondering if there's any way that Jenny could go out again from Rottingdean which is where she had to stop tracking on Sunday. But I know she's always very busy and in demand! πŸ˜”
firecracker773
I live in Kingston and went looking for her on the Downs yesterday afternoon. About to go again now. Spoke to every person I met (had her photo on my phone) to ensure as many in the village are aware as possible as I've only seen one poster of her here (in the pub and not everyone goes to the pub!). Seems she may be taking cover during the day and coming out at night which doesn't help matters but we mustn't give up hope. Is the tracker dog going to be used again? It would be helpful to see all the routes she's taken together..if there is one place she's returned to frequently, maybe start leaving food out overnight to make sure she comes back to that place? That's how my friend caught their cat...she'd been gone over a month and in the end they were able to catch her using this method and a large trap from the vet as she was so scared by this point that she'd just run off if approached. Keeping everything crossed that she's home where she belongs soon.
Victoria B
P.s I was at Sping Barn Farm the other day and saw a poster btw so that is covered and they RT't so in the know
Victoria B
Sussex express RT'd this morning and yesterday local best selling crime writer Peter James which is great! On the way back from Heathrow last night 7pm I came off at the Kingston roundabout and did a mini sweep over the area including the burger van. Saw nothing but was compelled to do anyway. Hope something yields today. She's very good at keeping out of sight! Tweeting as @FindRubyLewes
.
I looked on map and there seem to be a few farms, was also wondering if they knew, I tweeted the local winery as wasn't sure if they knew / whether people are allowed to look on their land, it seems to occupy a large area. Spring Barn Farm Attraction retweeted today which is really helpful. Hoping they will put up a poster too so that their visitors can be on the lookout. Tweets have now been retweeted to over 320,000 people. Hoping that there can't be too many people who will not know who she is if they see her. We will all keep trying Ruby, we are not giving up on you sweet girl x
Claire Letang
I left a message on the local farmer's answerphone as a lot of the land between Rottingdean and Kingston belongs to him so he and his staff now know about Ruby. The latest info has been shared on various local sites and horse riders and walkers are now also aware.
Rose
Oh Ruby you need to be seen so that you get home but dont go along busy roads x
.
Bingo! The retweet by @BBCSussex has gone to 55k followers. And jouno Kate Spicer to 13k so spreading far and wide now. Keeping everything crossed x
Victoria B
Wow! So close! I can't quite believe how she is managing to be so discreet! I don't know if the radios have been on it but @BBCSussex have just tweeted so hopefully more awareness will be spread. #FindRubyLewes
JulieH
Well done Yogi, hoping for this lovely girl to be home soon x

DAY 8 - RUBY UPDATE

Out with Jenny and Yogi again today. A strong scent picked up by Yogi outside the caller's house in Peacehaven tells us that Weds sighting in Westview Close was Ruby! Travelling down through the streets of Peacehaven to the coastal path, along to Telscombe (past the two cafes on the seafront) and into Rottingdean. From here we tracked up the High Street (B2123) and up Dean Court Road - a no-through road that leads up to the fields towards Kingston. Yogi had a strong scent and was keen to plow on, but it was getting too late :-(

Our area of focus now has to be Lewes/Kingston/Peacehaven/Telescombe/Rottingdean and possibly as far west as Brighton. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SHARE and help us get Ruby home. She is out there and she is probably very scared by now. Thank you!!
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Just to quickly update so postering, Twitter and face book shares can increase. Yogi seemed to pick up scent from the possible sighting and in a nutshell tracked towards Brighton. We got as far as Rottingdean before Yogi turned inland up the High Street. We thought we would continue towards Falmer but no - Yogi turned right into Dean Close and went to the end and onto the footpath. We didn't know where we were going but looking at Google maps and talking to locals the path Yogi wanted to take would take us to the Juggs pub in Kingston where Yogi had tracked past on Tuesday the opposite way. So fingers crossed Ruby is heading back towards home. We had to call it a night due to owners family circumstances. Last edited: 2016-01-24 21:04:34 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker

My neighbours and I are fairly certain she was in our gardens overnight last night (23-24) as bins were raided and mess left behind which our foxes don't usually leave.
South side, Gladys Avenue, Peacehaven.

That sounds really hopeful as Kingston is pretty close to where she went missing from. Please stay safe dear Ruby x

Thanks Claire and Freddie12. I think you could be right (really helps to have someone who knows the area!)
I'm hoping Melanie or Jenny will update with the latest details, but basically seems they continued past Saltdean and back towards Kingston where Ruby had been before. Hopefully this means she will make her way back to her home area again and maybe even to the stables.
Come on Ruby .. it's time you went home please girlie.
Claire Letang
Great work Freddie 12.
Have just walked my dogs on Saltdean side of Telscombe Tye. Told other walkers and asked to spread the word. I reckon she might be heading home as Saltdean and then Rottingdean would be on the way back to Juggs Lane from Peacehaven across the Downs. Come on clever Ruby!
How about a search party? I'm happy to help.
.
Have also tweeted in Rottingdean area as Melanie said tracker showed she had been there. Hope we are getting closer to finding this beautiful dog. Paws crossed now
.
That's weird!, I shifted my twitter search to Saltdean this morning. Have tweeted cinema, tavern, residents ass, zone, football teams, and cafes alongt he front asking for them to RT / spread the word / put a poster up if poss. Will carry on in that area with anyone I can think of. You MUST be getting closer now. Come on RUBY! show us your little nose sweetheart, we all want you home safely poppet x
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks for the update Melanie. Just heard that tracking has led to Saltdean so if anyone in the area would be kind enough to put up posters it would be brilliant. Thanks!
Freddie12 Thanks so much, you are doing a great job with Twitter and it's another good way to get the word out about latest info on the search for Ruby.
.
Hi Mel, I am tweeting every1 I can find who is local - rangers on the Downs, radio statiopns, local magazines, media, journalists, famous people. The Mayor retweeted :-) - just trying to help raise the profile and make sure everyone local will keep their eyes peeled. It's not as helpful as being a foot soldier I know but I am hoping the combined effort will help get the right result in the end. Good luck today, I'm thinking of you and willing Ruby home. The last person I helped used to walk round trailing their own scent as they searched [smelly socks etc] on the end of a stick. I imagine you have had all the tips but just in case. Check local restaurants where they may have left food out in bins, she may be scavenging and hungry so could go there. Hoping to hear good news soon, will continue to hope and pray and trying to help from here in Barnet x

DAY 8 - SEARCH FOR RUBY

No further sightings of Ruby, but we are back in Peacehaven today, tracking with Jenny and Yogi, following the possible sighting on Wednesday. If you see our luminous jackets, please come and say hi. We'd really appreciate knowing any places you've searched or any areas worth us checking out.

Thank you for continuing to share. Ruby is out there and we will find her!

Come on Ruby you need to be seen so that you can get home x

I'm RTing with the new info and hashtag on twitter, trying to identify local groups / people who might be able to share to many - like Peacehaven Football Club / the Mayor etc and sharing on fbook to local groups. Apologies if I have duplicated anything you have already done. Have u got plenty of people on foot helping u? If not shout. I'm in N London but have been following since the beginning and want her home safely too x

Hi all,

Sorry for posting so much! I don't know if done already but I have sent emails anyway to Heart Sussex & Surrey, BBC Sussex and Seahaven FM giving them the link to this page as well as the Twitter page and #FindRubyLewes so hopefully they will get on it too!

WE HAVE A POSSIBLE SIGHTING OF RUBY - PEACEHAVEN, BN10 8GA - PLEASE, PLEASE SHARE!!!

Call just in from lady who thinks she saw Ruby trot past her window on Wednesday 20th January at 3-3.30pm. This is our first real possible sighting, although the lady can't be certain it was her. The dog was Ruby's colour with long ears and no one with it. When the lady went out of her house to check, the dog had gone. Westview Close backs on to the South Downs and the hills to Lewes, so it's a real possibility it was her.

Please can anyone get posters up for me in Peacehaven and help me let local businesses know? I can drive there tomorrow too.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks Jayne and Riverlady. Lots of Tweets asking Network Rail to get the darn hole fixed. They just don't seem to realise how important it is.
Still no sightings of Ruby. Hoping that there are loads and loads of posters out there as that is so important.
Freddie12 No. However, search and all details being posted on Melanie Beck's page and on here. I have to confess to finding Fbk group pages very hard to monitor as can't always get on to internet when out so rely on info on this page.
Please show yourself to someone Ruby .. your family want you home.
.
I've been retweeting all week [I am @justemmapratt on twitter] ..... does Ruby have afacebook page, a #FINDRUBY campaign going? I've helped with quite a few lately and the combined sites works well. I have been sharing it on FBOOK as well. She is a beautiful girl, really hope she will come home soon.

DAY 7 - STILL NO SIGHTINGS OF RUBY
Possible breakthrough though with Network Rail. Seems they are sending someone out to walk the track and locate the holes in the fence. I'm waiting for the phone call to go and meet them. Huge thank you to the kind people who got on their case for us!
Posters are now widespread locally, with more to do this weekend. We are so grateful to everyone who helped with this. The support has been overwhelming.
Please keep sharing Ruby. She is out there somewhere and we will find her!

I think now is the time to get Media coverage. Local radio and local papers are really good . Once a story has been told, you will be surprised how missing dogs. One to the fore. State in the story how she was saved for the Kill house and what a beautiful life she has had whilst with yourselves. This is a must now because someone has probably found her and not reported her to dog warden, so local paper could bring some news, by a neighbour of someone who has just acquired a dog, or anyone else. Also offer a reward, that is good to do too. Xx

DAY 5 - STILL NO SIGN OF RUBY, MISSING SINCE SAT 16TH JAN FROM JUGGS ROAD, LEWES, BN7.

While the tracker dogs on Monday and Tuesday suggested she is staying within the Lewes area, there are still no sightings. Her bed and food at the stables last night were untouched this morning. We urgently need confirmed sightings of Ruby to help us pinpoint her movements. More posters will be going up around the area and local businesses are being made aware. Our very grateful thanks to everyone who continues to help us with the search, day and night. Also to all our friends, local people - and people we don't even know, who have messaged us, emailed local businesses, offered to put up posters, put pressure on National Rail on Twitter and given us sound advice to try to find her.

Thank you everyone!!
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks for the update Melanie. That's a lot of ground travelled but looks like the little lady is coming back to the stables every so often.
Julie: Ruby's bedding is in the tack room (which she can easily get into) and some food has been left for her. However, not wet food as they have a lot of foxes that go there at dusk so do not want to encourage them in there as they destroy things.
Have explained how important posters are and more have been/will be put up in as many places as possible. Really need posters to be up in all possible areas that Ruby might travel so that they 'get ahead' of her.
Just need some sightings to come in now. Stay safe Ruby.

So close and yet so far. Please keep safe Ruby and be found.

Do you have a stable you can leave open with Ruby's bed/bedding or items of your clothing in plus some smelly food just in case she returns and may encourage her to settle there - just a thought. J. x

DAY 4 - RUBY IS STILL MISSING

Another day out with Jenny and Yogi tracking Miss Ruby, took Andy on an 11 mile hike from our stables at Juggs Road, Lewes, over the fields to Kingston, around Kingston village and right up on the big hill behind Kingston. Back down again and down the hollow to the A27 (stopping at the burger van there, presumably she found some scraps in the bins). Off again over the A27 at the big Kingston roundabout (she has to have done this at night, surely?!), along the Brighton Road and tracking left up onto the racecourse behind the prison. From there she weaved back down through the houses of Houndean Rise, crossed back over the Brighton Road and down through the Winterbourne Estate. We think she then came up Love Lane, the footpath directly behind our house, hopped over the fence and back into our stables! Worryingly, Yogi the tracker dog, then went straight down through the paddocks to the very bottom and out through the hole in the railway land fence back on to the railway track (which is now live again).

The Positives: Yogi and Tiga have tracked two of her routes, which tell us she is still alive - or was. The routes taken are likely Sat night and Sunday night as we can't see how she would have crossed the roads she did in daylight without being seen or run over. She seems to be working in loops that end up back at our stables, so she's still touching base.

The Negatives: There have still been no confirmed sightings of Ruby. The possible sighting in Ringmer is unconfirmed and doesn't fit with the routes we have tracked so far, but we do need posters up in and around that area, just in case. The tracks are now live again. If Ruby tries to cross them again, the outcome won't be good and she won't know they are no longer safe! Sadly Network Rail didn't come today to fill the holes as they promised they would. They have told me it is 'not a priority' and they will get to it as soon as they can. We will try to temporarily fill them ourselves tomorrow morning.

While Jenny, Tiga and Yogi will happily come back and track for us again, we have established that she seems to be staying in and around the Lewes area and there's little more they can do at this stage. Over the next couple of days our emphasis needs to be posters and leaflets, to get word out to everyone we can and to get positive SIGHTINGS. That will enable us to track her again from that exact point.

So please, please, please keep sharing Ruby. She is out there somewhere and most likely having a wonderful time. She may be frightened to come home because she thinks she will get into trouble. She is probably disorientated, in flight mode and will soon become hungry and tired. We really need to find her. Last edited: 2016-01-19 19:19:21 by Melanie Beck

***Sighting was NOT Ruby***** POSSIBLE UNCONFIRMED SIGHTING of brown spaniel yesterday, Monday Jan 18th (5pm approx) at Harrison's Lane, RINGMER (BN8) running loose. This is about 5 miles in the opposite direction to where we are tracking Ruby today, but is our first possible lead, so please keep your eyes peeled Ringmer and Glynde folk! Very quick update this morning. Still no sightings at all overnight. Today Jenny has brought Yogi and he's tracking south from our stables at Juggs Road, over the hills towards Kingston/Brighton Road. Fingers and paws firmly crossed that 'Ruby Tuesday' is a good omen for today. Thank you once again for all the continued shares and messages. It was -5c here last night and we really need to get her home!

Thanks for the update Melanie. Wow, she is one very lucky dog. Let's hope Ruby does not try to go back home the same way. Hopefully Network Rail will fix the fencing soon.
Many thanks to Jenny and Tiga for going to help today. Can't thank you enough :)

If anyone does see Ruby PLEASE DO NOT CHASE her as she seems to be in flight/survival mode now. Please call Melanie if you see her. Thanks. Last edited: 2016-01-18 21:14:35 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

RUBY - DAY 3 UPDATE

Still no sightings of Ruby, but we have every reason to think she is still alive and on the move around the Lewes area. Thanks to Jenny and Tiga of K9 Tracker, we have tracked Ruby today for over 8 miles around Lewes Town. I'll post the route she took below, so if anyone local can please keep and extra lookout, we'd be very grateful! Ruby did indeed get out through a hole in our fence and in to the railway track BUT power to the track was SWITCHED OFF Sat pm and Sunday for maintenance!! We (and Ruby) are incredibly lucky as she would surely be dead otherwise.

We will be back out with Jenny and Tiga tomorrow and hope that will give us more of an insight into her movements and the 'loop' she is taking. We suspect she is moving mainly at night and holed up somewhere during the day. We've been told she may well be in 'flight' mode and try to run if called, so sightings may be all we can hope for right now.

Ruby's route Sat pm/Sunday:
Ruby crossed the railway track (power to the lines was off for maintenance!!) at the end of our paddock, clipped the A27, crossed the main Brighton road towards the racecourse at Hope in the Valley Riding School, went up towards Houndean Rise, down to the main Brighton Road again, along to the prison and all the way down the High Street right to the bottom (the whole way through the town). She cut left to the river alongside Tesco and across to Pells Pool. From there she tracked right, beside the Pells pond, right through the bottom of Landport housing estate, to Landport Farm and out on to the Offham Road. She headed straight back into Lewes town along Offham Road and down to Waitrose. Then along Friars Walk to the train station via the railway car park. She stood on Platform 1. We think she slept for a while under the portacabins they have there in the car park. Then we lost her scent, but picked it up again outside the front of the station and along Southover High Street back to Juggs Road. From there we don't know yet whether she went up Juggs Road to our stables, or continued towards Kingston/Spring Barn/Stanley Turner ground along the C7.

DAY 3 AND RUBY IS STILL MISSING. Reported to all dog wardens in local area. Plus Raystede. Phoning vets now. Absolutely no sightings at all. Network Rail still say no reports of a dog on the line. I have pleaded with them to please walk the track. The very best news is that Jenny and Tiga of K9 Tracker have agreed to help us and will arrive within the hour! We are totally blown away and very hopeful of getting a lead. Thank you once again to everyone sharing, messaging and searching. Your support has been overwhelming. We are so very grateful.

Firstly thanks to all who are helping and supporting Melanieand for all of the suggestions.
Thanks missalice, that's a great help as good for local keepers to know in case Ruby goes on their land.
Thanks for your update and extra info Melanie. It's very useful to know a bit about Ruby and her behaviour. You really are doing everything you can do for now and I am hoping that she may be with the Dog Wardens too.
Amazing amount of sharing has been done and lots of people sharing those .. over 1,500 from this page alone so that's brilliant and thanks again to all.

If not, then please carry on doing what you are doing. Ruby has to be somewhere and it's strange that there have not been any sightings at all.
Fingers crossed for Ruby.

Ruby likes to track. We often have her on a long line as she likes to wander off on a 'mission', but ALWAYS within her little area and she always comes back within half-one hour. She has never wandered off after dark and never on an empty belly. Our hay barns are virtually empty right now as the farmer is bringing us big round bales every week that we are storing outside.
Melanie Beck
RUBY IS STILL MISSING. Firstly a huge, massive thank you to everyone who has helped search for Ruby today or messaged us with advice or words of support. We are totally blown away and it's made a dreadful day easier. Ruby is an older dog who we adopted from a Spanish kill station, probably as she was no longer of use as a breeding bitch. She has a blood condition that requires twice daily medication. She also has various lumps and bumps (mammary tumours) which have tested as benign, so we have decided to only monitor for now. In short, she's a streetwise and determined little lady, but never known to stray outside of her boundaries (Winterbourne/Juggs Road) and needs to be home in the warm.

Today we have repeatedly walked her routes, calling and listening. Friends have also gone further afield, but nothing seen or heard. Network Rail have no reports of an animal on the line (their track runs alongside our lower paddock). We have notified the local farm (Spring Barn Farm). We have also checked our stables, barns, drains. We have gone searching on our own and with another dog, but still nothing. We have started to put posters up but will do more tomorrow. Her usual routes will also be checked first thing and local dog wardens and vets will be phoned. RSPCA are aware. Please note: our house and stables are the Lewes side of Juggs Road, not the Kingston side BUT if she has got lost, she's more likely to have headed Kingston/Woodingdean way than into Lewes town. The early morning snow this morning showed no tracks at the house or the stables. We remain hopeful of some leads tomorrow and would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts who have helped in the search so far. Please come home Ruby! If you can't, please know we (and a whole army of wonderful people) are trying to find you.
Dougal
I'm sure you've thought, but have all hay and straw barns been checked thoroughly, in case she's caught between bales and stuck. She may not make noise if she's stuck.

Sophie - dog id 50225 was found safe after two days stuck under bales that her owners had checked several times. http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=50225

All crossed Ruby is home safe with you very soon. x

Reports of barking in area of derelict school (St. Annes) so search has been done there by owner but no luck. Melanie Beck: you are doing a great job so far and good to see you are accepting help and that posters are getting out there. This is how you will get sightings of Ruby.
Network Rail has also been alerted by Melanie as there is a track nearby. Hopefully Ruby will stay away from there.

Please update this page with where posters have been put up and where searchs have been done Melanie. Thanks.

Sorry that Ruby has gone missing. Did she run off after something or did she just disappear?
I have sent you some email advice that may help you find her.
Bear in mind that most dogs will return to where they are lost from so try leaving something that has a strong scent of her or you (bedding/unwashed socks or tshirts etc) in that area or in a open stable/barn/shed so she can settle down with something that smells familiar to you when she returns.
If she has not returned to the yard in the morning I suggest that you get as many posters out as soon as possible .. in case someone has taken found her and taken her in. Posters will also bring in any sightings of her.
Also please ensure you have told your local Dog Wardens that she is missing .. and those of surrounding areas too.
As she is microchipped please inform the microchip database that she is missing.

Hopefully Ruby will be back at the stables in the morning. Best of luck with your search.
