I would just like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone for their good wishes, shares and congratulations now that Ben is back home safe and sound.
Especially to Sarah, DogLost volunteer, whose help and support was invaluable and Berni from Wonky Pets Rescue, Ben's original rescue centre, who also gave excellent help and advice.
It was I who lost Ben on the bleak moor when he charged off over a distant hill (extending lead still attached to him), overexcited by the snow and the prospect of seeing 'his daddy' in the distance, who wasn't actually his dad but Ben didn't know that! Nor did he know that going over the hill would mean we lost sight of each other, and nor did he realise that the tussock grass terrain that he can just bound over is rather more difficult for people. Searching and calling for him, as the weather closed in very quickly and badly and everyone left the area, I knew I also had to get myself off the moor, otherwise I would have needed a search party! Leaving the moor without him was the worst thing I've ever had to do :-(
To have him home is just fantastic, made all the more so because (a) I am sure that the advice I was given re tracking him and getting him to an area where he could be seen worked and (b) I absolutely know that the shares on here and Facebook are what meant one of the people who stopped on the road for him knew he was missing and the number to call me... she had seen and shared it the previous evening from one of Sarah's (DogLost) tweets. So the 'system' works, and all the more reason to donate, donate, donate to DogLost and Wonky Pets.
Apart from being a bit smelly (what's new?) and thinner than when he went, Ben is doing great, asleep on his rug as though nothing happened. He is obviously tired from his time away, but he is getting up to eat, drink, bark at the post-man, so all is well.
To those with lost loved ones still out there, no matter how long it's been, I will say what others said to me: Keep the faith, they are resilient, and they will appear. But to make the hardest time a little easier, I think the purchase of a drone camera is a brilliant idea.
Well, that's all for now. Thank you all again. I will put a picture of Ben back at home once he is a bit livelier (he is getting there) and once I can work out how to do it!
