Oh Jenny how wonderful for you and well done. Please stay safe and close from now on and welcome home where i bet you are being spoiled rotten! Xx
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Jasper has had a check up at the vets and has been given the all clear except that he wouldn't have lasted much longer with the weight/energy he had left. Just so glad I made an effort today.
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Oh and Ella - your face was a picture when I said - there he is, I know I had to repeat it and I am not sure what your reply was. Lol
Red Alert
Result Jenny and Yogi :)
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
After yesterdays possible sighting in the fields behind McDonalds I managed to make time to go back down to see if we could get Jasper home as the weather was so bad. I made contact with Tim who had spotted a whippet to get a more accurate location from where to start tracking and was told he was in a field by a barn but ran up a Roman Road towards McDonalds. I arrived with Yogi and Ella asked me why I had brought Yogi - I said because Yogi works quicker and with a possible sighting yesterday hopefully we can get him back home quickly!
Little did I know it would be so quick, we traipsed across some waterlogged fields where Ella understood the sighting was but I was determined to get across to the other side of the allotments, where we found a wet muddy track and although this didn't look like a roman road which is what Tim had described where he had seen a whippet running towards McDonalds we decided to start tracking from here anyway. Yogi and I went into a derelict barn and as I got in there he was curled up in a bed of hay. I called Ella in and Jasper just coolly lifted his head as if to say - its about time you brought me that tripe mum! I handed Ella a spare slip lead which Jasper accepted and after a few photos - Jasper was carried back across the fields to the vans.
He looked very calm but exceptionally thin, I actually don't think any more bad weather he would have coped with as he clearly was not finding much food.
I have just sent you a photo Clarkey Last edited: 2016-02-08 18:13:01 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker

Fabulous news... My late whippet had a similar 'off switch' when the mood took him so I've been there too! Brilliant he's back safe and sound πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

Can believe it I couldn't sleep last night thinking of the little monkey. Its just when we went through woods on Sunday Ana and I got stuck and I mean stuck in the clay soil. thats all I could thin of. But now I can tell you that. Well Jasper you have led your Mum a merry dance. Still I'm sure in your mind you thought well I'm lost so if I stay put she'll find me eventually. She did last time. But seriously Ella I am over the moon great and thanks to Jenny and Yogi. Well done. Now I must stop babbling but I'm so so pleased Yippee xxxxx

What a story. Have just read all the posts and I think all the people involved in searching for Jasper need an "Award". So pleased he is now home safe where he belongs. Xxxx

Brilliant news well done Jenny and Yogi you are both amazing and Jasper is extremely lucky to have had you on his case, he is a very clever dog to have kept himself safe in horrendous conditions, GPS or a very long training lead till he learns to stick close by :) well done all helpers too xLast edited: 2016-02-08 16:38:31 by Gina and Timi

Fantastic News !
Likewise Kept thinking of him last night in all that bad weather and there he was in a barn clever boy ! So happy for you Ella . please get a tracker for his collar Like that other Lady you can Keep tabs on your phone if the little monkey wanders out of sight . Bless him. All have a good nights sleep tonight x
Ella
I can't quite believe I'm typing this, but indeed it is true, Went to the barn that the man described he ran past yesterday, and there he was in his homemade bed of hay :-) had some tripe, said hi to Jenny and Yogi, got carried back to the van and even got a congratulations from the people at Cophall Farm who happened to be driving by as we were walking back.

I didn't think miracles happened in two's, but J has certainly used up more than the lives he was given. I can assure you he is not going off the lead in an unenclosed space again! GPS collars are obviously a fab invention, but the first thing he did was shoot over a dual carriageway, which is obviously beyond what a tracking collar can help with... Luckily we have a nice handful of totally enclosed rec areas round here so he can still get a good sprint. It is somewhat frustrating as his recall has been pretty spot on before and inbetween both episodes, he's a "normal dog" from day to day, but there's obviously a switch inside his head that I'm not going to be able to know when it's going to flick :-/

Obviously, an immense thank you for everyone's efforts (again). The support alone is worth millions let alone the physical work put in. Now to spread the word that he's back home :-D (and already in bed under the covers.

Arlington to top of Hailsham to bottom of Hailsham to Polegate. One bloody lucky dog!
madfox
Tears of happiness here for you Ella. I can stop worrying about him all the time now. Fantastic news and such a quick find by Yogi and Jenny. Thank you Jenny. I'm soooooooo happy. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee. x

You beat me to it ClarkeyπŸ˜€ Just the best news that Jasper has been found:-). I'd just like to say a huge thank you to all the people who have turned out in the past few days, either to poster or to search for him, but I think special thanks have to go to Jenny & Tiga, who are not particularly local, who came out twice to track Jasper, and who's hard work paid off today. Xx
Skywalker99
I think he needs a GPS tracker for his collar...or to be banned from being off the lead! pleased he has been found, well done Jenny and Tiga/Yogi, the weather is quite vile today.Last edited: 2016-02-08 15:42:54 by Skywalker99

Just had the news from Jenny that they have found Jasper! Well done to her and Yogi!
Whoo hoo! So happy for Ella :)
He was in the barn near the allotments and is rather skinny but at least Ella has him now.
I'm sure that Ella will post an update about the search and reunion as soon as she can.
Welcome home Jasper!

Don't envy Jenny tracking in this weather! hope he gets found soon....
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Roxie & I spent the morning searching the area that Jasper originally went missing and also where he was sighted yesterday. Sadly , I saw nothing but it became very obvious just how vast Abbots Wood actually is as I came across places there that I've never found before!! The weather in our area is awful and I had a sleepless night last night worrying about jasper, so can't imagin how Ella is feeling:-( on the plus side, I did come across lots of places where he could get out of the wind and rain so hopefully he is managing to do that but that is probably why the sightings are few and far between. I understand that Jenny & Tiga are going to try to track him again this afternoon....hopefully there'll be a stronger scent with it being fresher.
shelleyD
I'm really sorry, milly just isn't well enough for me to leave her just got back from the vets again :-( Really hope you can find Jasper today xx
JulieH
Hoping for good news for you today x
Ella
Polegate sighting yesterday afternoon about 3:30!!! Apparently was near the allotments and (obviously) ran off when called. All Polegate services establishments have a poster. Allotments have poster saying be was seen there yesterday. Permission gained from Cophall Farm to walk over the fields by the allotments but think it eventually turns into Wooton Manor and Nick Thorpe at Robin Post's land...Last edited: 2016-02-08 09:18:16 by Ella

Sounds like the Cuckoo trail needs a lot of posters. Perhaps anyone with a push bike could cover more miles on it.
Tiga was tracking on two sections on it. Last edited: 2016-02-08 07:21:41 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker

Grove Hill is accessible from the Cuckoo Trail if you're a dog as it runs more or less parallel. Good news that some sightings are coming in.
Ella, I will do up some more of the business cards to hand out to people if you like along with more posters.
There's also a coach company that uses land on Honeypot Farm which is near the services - I will pop in there later and distribute a few posters if you don't find it. Plus there's the allotments in between the two. Not forgetting Cophall Farm itself which is quite a way along the track on the right with lots of metal gates as you drive down Baytree Lane which is first left after the A22 roundabout if heading to Hailsham.
I will do what posters I can today and tomorrow but am off on Wednesday so can go mad then.
LynS
Grove Hill is the road from Hellingly to Horan, The Grove is near where you were tracking yesterday. I will do some walks in the area of the Grove this week, its on my loop, travelling wise. Its also just yards away from where Daisie does her therapy visits, so I will take some printed info in in Thursday to hand out to the care home staff. Looking at Google earth, the gardens of the Grove also back on to the Cuckoo ....Last edited: 2016-02-08 06:46:20 by LynS
Ella
And yes Shelley the fields are behind the services on that big Cophall roundabout
Ella
Lyn the Hailsham Gazette were emailed and she said she'd see what she can do. Had another report that someone saw I dog like this walking the road called Grove Hill heading back towards Hailsham on Tuesday morning. Still don't know when this Polegate services sighting was. Will get out there for dawn this morning and do some postering at the services. Will do houses at South RPL and stables on Thornwell Road this afternoon, been meaning to do them for a while now...
shelleyD
Great news!! If Milly seems better tomorrow & I can get someone to come in to check on her, I will print some posters & come help for hour or two.

Is the MacDonald's that he has been spotted on the big roundabout with the petrol station if I drive from a259 on to A27?? I actually haven't been over that way since last time he was missing, so I can't quite visualise it.

Hopefully he is hiding out in this ghastly weather xLast edited: 2016-02-08 00:58:44 by shelleyD
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Good to hear of a sighting at last. The fields behind the services lead to bridleways and footpaths that go into the woods.
I have messaged Ella with some places to call into with posters. Owners of Rainbow Bridge Equine Rescue will leave food out for Jasper in case he is nearby and will ask their riders to keep a look out for him.
Maybe Jasper was attracted to the food at the services as there are several places there.
Best of luck.
I have bumped the page for the sighting.

Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Looking on Google there is a track that joins the Cuckoo trail to the services running parallel to the A22 Polegate bypass. Unusually we were tracking clockwise today so he could be heading back to the woods.Last edited: 2016-02-07 21:41:09 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Ella
Just to throw a spanner in the works, a whippet was seen in the fields behind Macdonalds at Cophall services. Just trying to work out when and any other details...
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Really well done to everyone that has been out searching over past couple of days. I'm so sorry that I've not been around this weekend but am hoping to go out tomorrow. Let's hope jasper has some shelter tonight as the weather is awful here....fingers crossed tomorrow bring some good news. X
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Ella has had news of a possible sighting in the fields behind McDonalds at the Polegate Services. She is trying to follow this up. It would make sense as the Cuckoo trail that Tiga tracked to today goes closeby and it is close to the end of the woods.
Posters around here please! Last edited: 2016-02-07 21:19:29 by Jenny & Tiga k9tracker

How about a piece for the Hailsham Herald
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Not an easy day with so much water and mud in the woods. The scent Tiga picked up,was not fresh and we desperately need a sighting of this elusive boy. There were posters up but not enough but sadly the Forestry Commission wouldn't allow posters up. Despite there being some posters most people,we spoke to did not know about Jasper missing and some of them walked several times a day in the woods. So we need perhaps small flyers to be given out to the walkers if posters are not allowed.
madfox
That was really good of Jenny to come over and help - has given a new focus for everyone. I'll print up more posters and count me in for putting some up if you need me to. Would it be an idea to change the location on the poster so people know to look more locally to them and in their gardens? Can that be done?
Ella
Hi all
So Jenny and Tiga very kindly came down to us today, and we tracked from 10:30am to 5:30pm. After going up to where he was last seen, we focused on whether there was a scent going from my van and beyond, which there was. Tiga led us straight over the A22, into Coopers Way in Hailsham and down an alley into the industrial estates. We carried on down Diplocks to KFC but the scent didn't seem quite as strong there. Tiga still seemed to want to lead us down the Ersham Road, into Ersham Way and onto the Cuckoo trail. This is where we kind of lost our momentum and although kind of got to the pond ok, didn't seem to have a clear way to go after that. We carried on round Down ash way and back onto the cuckoo trail but nothing obvious. Did a bit from main Abbots Car park Robin Post/the lake, and also went up to where he was found at Berwick but Tiga had nothing to show.

This means posters need to go up like crazy in Hailsham I reckon! Especially the new builds and the industrial estate. I've got the number of the CCTV cameras there so hopefully that will pick something up.

It may not be overly clear news but it's news nonetheless. I need to get more printer ink but otherwise I know what I'll be doing most evenings this week...
shelleyD
So sorry Jasper is still missing & I haven't been able to help search this time. It's 45 mins each way & I just haven't had four hours together to come over. I was going to come today but milly ended up in the vets on a drip last night so I need to stay home with her today. I'll keep sharing & pray the little monkey shows himself soon xx
Quincy
Lets cross everything and with the terrible weather we have experienced he will feel the ned to make his presence known. Also we have all be concentrating on the right hand side of Abbots wood. Would it be worth looking to the left. I think it was mentioned and the solar panel farm would make a good place to gain shelter.
Quincy
After doing the walk round Abbots wood last night,we did drive out to his last haunt. There was no sign. Also the field opposite now has sheep and they were totally at ease next to the fence nearest the narrow road next to where he stayed last time
Ella
He ended up making a base camp for himself on someone's land last time. I have postered the entrance to there and informed the village post office, alongside phoning the lady that spotted him there last as she walks her dog up there regularly.
Yes national rail have been phoned and he's passed the details onto the local tracks.
Thank you
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
It might be worth reading some of the notes from Jasper's previous escapade ID 91239 to see where he frequented then. My fear is the railway line especially as he was close to Berwick station last time and there have been no sightings. Have network rail been contacted? Ella I will call you shortly - been a bit manic.
Quincy
Walked along the side and back of Arlington speedway track Sorry no sightings. However, we did find a lot of places where Jasper could find good shelter. It was like a fly tipping spot. But obviously it wasnt but in came out into a mossy field and back next to Arlington Speedway.
Ella
Thank you all so much. I think we did the best we could, we were all over the place. Nothing captured from camera by lake last night either. Once again in a whirlwind of unknown and not sure what to do next.
Not heard from Jenny either but hopefully still a potential for tomorrow.
Well done team!
marshall
3.30 Walked from RPL and did a figure eight along side the A22 and through the woods, down as far as the solar farm and back.Left about 4.45. No sign sorry x
Katie Neill
Walked from Carpark out to virtually Robin post lane no sighting from us :-(
madfox
Ella you certainly deserve to find him soon with all the time, thought and hard work you are putting into finding him.
Everything crossed that Jenny can make it on Sunday - does she require costs/donation because I'm more than happy to contribute a small amount in the hope of getting this boy back.
I hope to make it on Saturday with a friend so will text you if we can. He's better with directions in the wood than I am as I always get lost. Huge respect for you spending so much time in the wood and still managing to find your way back to your car.
Let's hope Jasper's time in the wild is coming to an end this weekend.
Ella
Ok folks, his bed and camera trap has been relocated to around by the lake. I had the Weimeraner with me again and she went into the thick undergrowth and woofed at something. This was almost dark so could have been anything, but I'm certainly bearing it in mind. Sadly too dark and thick for me to tackle then and I didn't know exactly where she was in there either and needed to spend the time setting crate up.
Boyfriend Dane did cuckoo trail to Hempstead Lane this morning, as well as following Julie's directions to the Highlands fields. He's not sure if he made it exactly to the ones you meant but certainly had a look in the ones he could. I think he walked round to Robin Post from them too.
Madfox the post will be on my Facebook profile (Eleanor Mogridge) alongside lost pets pages.
Yes Skywalker Jenny kindly phoned me this morning. She said Sunday was a possibility, so fingers very very tightly crossed.

SEARCH DETAILS:
Saturday 6th, 3:30 meet, at either Abbots Wood car park (potentially know the man with the car park keys so he could delay closing for us, if not park on road), or either end of Robin Post Lane. Depending on how many people come the aim is to split into groups of twos or threes and walk quietly on the main and back paths/undergrowth. I shall leave bags of smelly green tripe in each parking destination before kick off so anybody with a nose of steel can carry one with them to help tempt him out. I am also planning on trailing tripe/tripe juice along the main concrete paths a couple of hours before to heighten the chance of him being visible.
I think it will be easiest if everyone intending on coming could text me on 07984806032 so I can try and team people up and have an even amount coming from each angle?
I think that's all to report. Home from another 10 hour day of walking and searching.
Skywalker99
any luck getting Jenny and Tiga to come yet?
madfox
I hope it's not needed as well but can you post details of any search on here please as have posted this link to a lot of people at work and asked them to keep an eye on here for details in case they are able to assist. What FB page is it on?
Come along Jasper - please show yourself to just one person.
Pointerlady
I have shared the fb post for the search tomorrow. I really hope that it won't be needed and he is found safe before then.
Ella
Thank you Skywalker, I've contacted that mobile number of the other people just incase.
I will do another facebook share tomorrow and urge people to come before dusk so we can hopefully tackle it from as many angles as possible and organise groups.
I'll aim to get his bed to the place where I heard the barking by the end of tomorrow too. Boyfriend Dane has taken tomorrow off so I should have an escort for low-light work.
Today I have done the lake I the morning, some of the mud paths to the right of Abbots car park/the lake paths at lunchtime and some of Robin Post this evening. There's all that space to the left of RPL in between the main track and the A22, we went in there for a bit. So much space :-(
LynS
I would suggest that any dusk/after dark activities need to be properly organised and there should be several of us, so we can walk in pairs or 3sLast edited: 2016-02-04 14:29:45 by LynS

I will try to get up to Abbots Wood over the weekend - I know it pretty well. I could maybe meet you up there tomorrow at dusk if you needed someone to walk with? I think as far as safety is concerned, people need to be walking in at least pairs if going when its getting dark/is dark.
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Ella - I think Clarkey may have Jennys number. x

there is also www.lostdogtracker.com but Jenny is closer, there is a phone number for lost dog trackerLast edited: 2016-02-04 13:51:02 by Skywalker99

I would ring the helpline and ask to apeak to Jayne
Ella
Yes I went through K9 tracker website, I also messaged her on facebook last week. Would I have to talk to a specific doglost person to ask if they could contact her for me?
Perhaps we can get something like that together Saturday afternoon and evening then. Drone is also a good idea, I'll put the feelers out...
LynS
My suggestion is similar, get everyone together an hour before dark, having planted his food and bed of course, and sit together and wait. I'd happily play in the woods in the dark (with my dogs) and in company ... but I'm teaching tonight and tomorrow night, but am happy to help on Saturday or Sunday after dark. Safety in numbers and all that. Last edited: 2016-02-04 12:34:02 by LynS

Perhaps dogloist could contact Jenny for you?
Lyn
Did you go on The K9Tracker.co.uk for Jenny and fill in details There?
Lyn
Did you go on The K9Tracker.co.uk for Jenny and fill in details There?
Lyn
Would it be any good requesting all helpers meet in 2 place then Fan out some on main paths some on the small Paths and men perhaps going through the undergrowth . Could have some going from A22 R P Lane Entrance and others going from main car park .. Nobody out there got a Drone. Just a thought.
JulieH
Too far away to help Ella, but I have my fingers crossed for some good news soon x
Ella
I resubmitted a message on Jenny's website yesterday evening actually, so fingers crossed. I dont think I've walked any other bits of abbots apart from Robin Post with him over the past few weeks so any scent picked up by Tiga would be a good sign. I've got his harness in a freezer bag all ready to be sniffed, just need somebody to sniff it. I'm assuming she doesn't advertise her phone number for obvious reasons, but if anybody is in better contact with her it would be great to at least have us mentioned.
Lyn I did wonder that; I couldn't locate the noise very well at all really apart from the direction, perhaps food and the camera at dusk, however it is my partners (rather expensive) camera and he's not been overly keen having it in a public place as it is. I'm not going to have much time to do anything before dark this evening, and it's a bit in-the-middle to be walking round with a torch and lugging a bed/food/etc with a torch on my own.
I'll try and get as many people as poss walking in there and off the beaten track over the weekend. I think I've talked myself into having a feeling he's still in there somewhere.
LynS
Is it worth leaving something,(food/bedding/trap/camera) where the unknown dog was heard barking yesterday?
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Ella, did you have any luck contacting Jenny & Tiga? I know they've been really busy with missing dogs in our area (namely Ruby & Storm who was reunited this morning) so it may be that she could now help? I'd love to think that Jasper was still in Abbots Wood, at least he's safe in there....its such a vast area when you're actually looking for something specific but you would have thought he'd have picked up your scent or Sonnys scent. Will keep wracking my brains for ideas. x
Ella
So the permission I would need is of the people at Highlands Stables? Thank you,
Zoe I was wondering the opposite actually, that the lack of sightings could just mean he's keeping himself well out of sight in the depths of the woods, rather than if he has used a road and on someone's land the chances would be a bit higher of him being seen? Any theories are as good as useless in this scenario I would say anyway.
I'm sure I'm clutching at straws but I took my Sonny and two others round to abbots lake this morning, and the young Weimeraner with me was onto the scent of something in a patch of trees just north of the bridge, which was where I heard the yapping yesterday. Was calling and whistling all around there and obviously no response.
Turned around near the end of the walk and one of Sue's two whippets had caught up with us and was sniffing Sonny; didn't half get my heart going for that split second, but alas...
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Gutted that Jasper is still missing and theres been no sightings still:-( You would have thought that if he was still in Abbots Wood then he would have been seen? There are plenty of posters in the area now. POinterlady has got a point....dogs are very good at getting in somewhere and not being able to get back out!! I'm glad that you've postered Berwick again, as it is feasible that he could go back to that area. Thanks again to everyone who is postering and searching. x
Pointerlady
Before the cattery from the A22 on the left hand side. There is a long driveway fenced both sides. My trackers have picked up my dogs circling in the fields behind and eventually I got to them at the back of the stadium and had to lift them over fencing. Twice this has happened and I really don't know how they get in but not out. There is a narrow path just after the stadium that leads back into Abbots Wood with a lay by just large enough for two cars and next to a telegraph pole in front of the path. My dogs were found about 500mts up this path in fields on the left. I know it's a long shot but if you haven't already covered this area, it may be worth a try?
Ella
Do you mean the stables next to Arlington Cattery?
Pointerlady
Ella, I know I mentioned this before but two of mine have got stuck in the fields behind Highlands Farm when coming back up to RPL to the car parking area on more than one occasion. Somehow they manage to get into the fields but cannot get out? Ask the owners if you can walk their land if you haven't already?
Ella
Marshall is kindly doing more of Hempstead lane but will stick some on road at a later date. If you're facing Robin Post from where the cars park, we were on the home straight coming down the wide muddy path from the right. He zoomed from the T junction at the top of that hill to the cars and no one saw which way he went so he could have turned right down the main RPL track and be right in the thick of the woods again. Other end of RPL has a poster and have put up some in main Abbots car park (with string) this evening. Also put one through Mays Farm door (I hope, if I got the right house), put two up on trees behind Berwick Village Hall, and slotted one in Beryl the post office lady's doorframe because I couldn't find her letterbox. Old Oak pub also now has one. Have put two posters through Bushy Wood Scouts letterbox and the house on its driveway but haven't contacted otherwise.
LynS
As I was in Selmeston today I had a check around, from the level crossing, down to Lower Wick Street, Mays Farm, and round to Berwick village hall. Walked slowly round the red behind the hall, and looked across to Mays. No sign around his previous haunts :(Last edited: 2016-02-03 17:56:12 by LynS
Lyn
Hempstead Lane 1st house on Right then some on left further Down with post boxes By entrances to driveways the very last place had white box on right so put one in there . Would not hurt to double up anyway. If he did go that area their would be so many places he could hide that are not accessible . Did not see any posters on road so that could be good .idea.. What Path did you come out of woods ? Could he have gone down main Path to the other end of Robin Post Lane? Has anyone gone into Bushey wood from the A22 entrance. I don't know if you have to contact anyone but there a probably lots of little camps the kids make he could hide in?
Ella
Thanks loads Lyn, sounds very proactive. What's left to do down Hempstead Lane then? Everywhere except the kennels and cattery? Will go there soon tonight. Natewood now have two posters then cos I did them whilst on my verge search yesterday :-P I now have plenty of posters again so if you give me a destination I can try to drop some off.
Did the generic lake loop walk round abbots from the main car park just now. Heard some high pitched yapping coming from over the bridge and left, but couldn't locate. Sent a helping friend in that direction as she was also in the woods just in case. Ironically had anot her lost looking dog zoom past us two or three times, that's the second one in 4 days.
Lyn
Sorry don't know what happened there how do you delete?
Lyn
Visiting My mum off Arlington Road East . Spoke to several People with Dogs just going to walk over Robin Post Lane . One Man said he goes off the beaten track. Took poster with him. . Thanks all.
Gazette and Friday Ad emailed, string in van along with fresh posters so will tackle abbots car park later. Camera trap at Robin Post shows no whippet still so it's pretty certain he's not going back there unless he just hasn't gone near his bed.
Have also left a message on the phone of the lady that gave us the heads up that he was behind Berwick Village Hall last time. Just in case she still walks her dog by the fields and can keep an eye.
Come on sighting, we need you.
madfox
Jollyes now has a poster on their community board which is way down the shop and not very visible, but they don't put stuff in the window. Posters put up around Gleneagles Rd footpaths and park earlier (accessible places as was in smart work footwear!). Meat farm and pet food place in Hempstead Lane closed about 3 years ago and land was sold off - not sure what's there now. I will try to put message on Sovereign Radio's page later and maybe they will pick this up for local news?
All these posters and postings will hopefully generate that all important sighting.
Quincy
Been to his old haunt couldn't see anything went down Hempstead Lane it does end with a dirt road so couldn't go any further. But until there is a possible sighting its difficult to know what direction to search. Arlington speedway has a storage on opposite side of road which could possibly be quiet. Couldn't believe the scouts field is fenced off.
LynS
Pierce holes in the corners of the posters with a penknife and tie to trees with baling string. I have a tons of the stuff if you need it Last edited: 2016-02-03 10:58:23 by LynS
Ella
More posters being printed as I type. I want to put more in Abbots car park so anyone walking in there is aware, but I got phoned by Mr Forestry Commission Man last time asking to take them down (I think because I used pins mainly). Any better suggestions welcome.
Will go to Hempstead Lane amongst other places this afternoon. Newspapers are another good idea, wouldn't do any harm I'm sure
Lyn
Have you thought about putting a notice in Friday Ad. Or Hailsham Gazzette . ?
Quincy
I really dont know about that but there was what looked like a breakers yard but unfortunately it has been years since down that way. There are so many ways he could have gone. It could be he heads back to his last haunt where he was found before. Its a long shot but worth a look. Im going that way today.
LynS
At the end of Hempstead Lane, just before it runs into the bridleways, there is (or at least, there was 15 years ago) a "meat" factory. That's what I was told by the people, at Tilehurst. If it is still there, maybe the smell would attract J.
Quincy
just looked on google maps Hempstead lane does carry on after the kennels and comes back out on to A22 My goodness if only there was a sighting lets hope he heads back into Arlington Woods. Im going out to Berwick today and will drive back past all his previous haunts and travel back via The Old Oak Inn, Arlington Speedway and all round that area.
Quincy
Morning Ella there are quite a few properties in Hempstead Lane and there is a kennels/cattery at the end of the road He would be able to get near to Michelham Priory or back on to road to the common and the woods. Im not certain but think you can only get back via scrub land. Its been a few years since riding that way. But most of the houses in Hempstead Lane have pretty big gardens
Ella
I haven't been down Hempstead Lane at all I don't think. Can add to tomorrow's list. No response from Jenny and Tiga. I've put posters in various letter boxes on the A22 Lyn but not sure if any of them were a chicken farm? Thank you for all your sharing xx
Let's see what tomorrow brings.
Lyn
Sent email to PJ skips with Photo also have added to several Eastbourne FB pages. Memories of Eastbourne etc . And Hampden Park forum as lots of them walk over that way . Do you know if chicken Farm was contacted?
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Brilliant team effort - thank you very much everyone.

Hopefully, word is getting out now and that crucial sighting will come in to give us all something to work off. I agree with "Marshall" that people must have seen him, but may not have come across a poster yet. Have local supermarkets been done. And maybe Jolleyes? A22 Pet Store?
Lyn
I drove in a circle today down the a27 back to the A22. My husband was on the lookout. No sightings . Did you put poster in the Chicken Farm by the Laybye? I am going to my mums tomorrow Will ask at the building site Arlington Rd. East Did see poster at the entrance so the must be aware . Have put info on couple of F.B sites I am on in Hailsham few people have seen the posting. Did ask the to spread the word. My printer is not good at the moment If you have any spare posters I can put some through the doors on the estate back of my mums house.

Tilehurst has 2 yards, the livery yard by Knockhatch, the old riding school down Hempstead Lane.

I removed my comment as lyns comments are more knowledgeable and mine may just be confusing, sorryLast edited: 2016-02-02 19:00:13 by Marigoldww
LynS
Tilehurst is on Hempstead Lane, and the field by Diplocks roundabout/Knockhatch entrance with the horses in is also Tilehurst.
Sending positive vibes to you, nothing to report except to say we're thinking of you and Jasper. So sorry I didn't get up that way to walk today
Ella
Thank you marshall. Where exactly is Tilehurst? I have a few posters left and can print some more and drop them to people. I have indeed contacted both Eastbourne and Wealdon dog wardens and 101 police, so he's on all their systems, plus one would hope they would all scan him for a chip if he ended up with any of them.

A22 verges checked this afternoon. I went on both sides between the Knockhatch roundabout down to the solar farm/nursing home just short of Cophall. Nothing obvious, which if i were in an optimistic frame of mimd would find somewhat heartening. I put posters through some letter boxes of the houses that sit on the A22 southside and the Italian Restaurant and mechanics there. There are various paths that go from the A22 onto land/recreational field/woody bits, but I'm not sure what it looks like from the other accessible side (seems to me like it's behind Diplocks Estate?)
Also if he did shoot out of The Glade and miraculously make it across in one fell swoop, exactly opposite is a path to the new builds/Coopers Way, so definitely worth postering round there as you suggested Lyn if you haven't already.
Marigoldww
Hi Ella, I am free tomorrow afternoon to help if you want company, let me know :)
marshall
FWIW the area is the border of two town councils - East Sussex and Wealden so (if you haven't) do contact BOTH dog wardens and keep checking with them, don't expect them to speak to each other or work out for themselves that they have your dog. It would also be worth contacting the police on their non emergency number, they were great when my girl was missing and two of my sightings came from the police. It was the police who tipped me off that she had gone into a new area.Last edited: 2016-02-02 18:01:49 by marshall
marshall
Don't despair Ella - when my girl went missing I didn't hear anything for a few days because people HAD seen her but hadn't seen posters/flyers (or mentioned it yet to someone who had seen a poster). If you haven't already then I suggest flyers /posters along Hempstead lane, especially the kennels ( I don't have a printer but if you want to leave some for me at Tilehurst - I'll check with the yard owner but am sure it would be fine - and I'll deliver / put some up for you). Also Berwick and any local pubs, like the Old Oak, were farmers / guns / beaters drink.Last edited: 2016-02-02 17:32:49 by marshall
Quincy
Hi Ella Yes its accessible. The lane runs along side the horse sanctuary it is marked as bushey woods scouts field the other place is a little further up on same side of road. That is just some old wood buildings for bullocks but both are very close knowing Jaspers liking for quet spots
Ella
I put two posters through their letterbox today. I don't know exactly what field you mean, is it accessible?
Quincy
Sorry to see Jaspers gone walkabout. Sure you have tried everywhere but just in case have you been to the scouts field. It would probably be quiet this time of year. I know its across the arlington road and they have got the Animal sanctuary in front of the scouts field. Theres also a small holding with outbuildings on that same road
Ella
Thank you Zoe, I think that's a similar place to what Lyn did the other day. I'll try to do another poster splurge soon. He was seen about 30 mins after he went missing last time because he ended up on Berwick Highstreet so of course there were lots of people around, and pretty regular sightings throughout because he did use the road.
This afternoon's plan is to walk the verges (madfox most of it is nice and wide with a path and I'll be in my bright pink coat). Sadly my partner works away in the week so I can't get him to do it in case I find something awful! My worst fear is that he's been injured and is just lying somewhere but cant move.

Thank you everyone for your help. Although it feels somewhat like a lost cause currently due to no sightings, it would certainly feel 10 times worse without your help and support x
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Big thank you to all volonteers for postering, searching and just generally spreading the word.

Ella - just to let you know, yesterday afternoon i parked in a layby just before Arlington Stadium and checked some of the verges. I spotted a public footpath which went off in the opposite direction to Abbots Wood so thought I'd have a look down there. The light was going and ended up walking back in the dark with a torch (but possibly a good time to get a sighting?) but basically it went past either a mountain bike track or motocross track and i eventually ended up at Knockhatch. There are so many places Jasper could be holed up there for shelter. I didn't like to snoop around too much but i did call him. There is water and lots of rabbits. I then drove the lanes, past the Oak and the other pub in Arlington and on to Berwick just on the off chance he'd made his way back there. I did see your posters which is great but sadly no sign of Jasper. I just wish we could at least get a sighting of him. Can i maybe suggest you put posters up on anywhere there is a public footpath sign locally as i wonder if he is keeping away from the road. Do you remember how long it was before you got a sighting last time?
gina c
My brother lives in Hailsham just off the A22 opposite Knockhatch. Will ask him to keep a look out and spread the word.
madfox
Fingers and toes crossed there's a sighting soon. I've postered Hawkswood Stores and will do Tatty Matts and the next door shop tomorrow and will pop one into Jollyes as well if no one else has - anywhere dog walkers may go. I also put a poster up at the country park (where the pond is) on Sunday but there are other entrances to the park so will try to cover them too. I wish I had more time but work commitments are very heavy. If you walk along the A22 verges please do wear a hi-vis and walk facing the oncoming traffic - it's so dangerous.
Come on Jasper - show yourself.
Ella
P.s yes Zoe I think having a look along verges there and into all the fields on either sides of that road would be really great, thank you. I so wish I could be in multiple places at once all day. Have come home now it's dark and feel so useless sitting here..! ;-(
Ella
If he bolted like he did last time (the only reason I question that he hasn't is because last time there was a stimuli to scare him but nothing this time) then I reckon he could have absolutely shot down past The Glade and onto/over the A22, although bearing in mind it was pretty much rush hour he would have done a very good job to make it to the other side. We have postered on street posts along the main road going into Hailsham and that dead end road/Coopers Way area. Didn't do many through letter boxes though, I had run out of paper! Haven't gone North of Diplocks Estate yet where all those newish houses and that pond and field is...
Zoe yes he had a collar on this time with a tag with two numbers on. One would hope if he was hit I would be contacted but considering its all 60/70mph roads perhaps people wouldn't really stop?
Had a camera trap facing his crate last night and today, checked it just now and no sight of him. Have left it there again tonight. Last edited: 2016-02-01 18:23:03 by Ella

Well done Ella for all your postering - hopefully it will bring in a sighting at least. Lyn - yes, he could quite conceivably have crossed the A22 although Ella may have more idea if he would choose to stay away from traffic? If you think where he'd settled last time it was away from the road. Again, he could quite easily have gone through the woods opposite Arlington speedy way or could have cut back into Abbots Wood but if he'd done that you would have thought he'd have made his way back to the car park as it sounds like it is a regular walk for him up there and would know it well? Ella, did he have an ID tag on? If so, you would have thought if he'd been hit by a car then you would have been contacted? I guess he could have been clipped and taken himself just off the road maybe? I think I may try to walk as much of the the lane between A22 and Michelham Priory later just in case rather than going into Abbots Wood but will swing back via the car park just in case. I can also drive back through Berwick just in case on my way to Ripe. X
Lyn
Would he have gone across the A22 there r is a new build there. My mum Lives in Meadow Road if you want me to poster that side let me Know.
LynS
Yes it is, and it comes out on Hempstead Lane. Half way along the path forks and you either go on to Hempstead or back to Arlington Road. I parked roadside and walked this yesterday, and walked the road between the 2 bridleways. I didn't walk from RPL to the bridleways though.
Ella
Does anyone know the woods on the opposite side of the Arlington Speedway road? I think it's classed as the cuckoo trail? He could have ran down the road and gone in there as one of the many possibilities...
Thank you Zoe, around 100 posters distributed so far. I'm going to have to do a thorough verge check all up and down that A22, I don't want to waste everyone's time if thats the way he went.
Pointerlady
We walked from around 11.30 until 2.pm yesterday from the middle section of RPL upwards towards the A22 and then across down the cycle track to almost Polegate and back to AW car park. No sightings and because of the weather, not many people to ask either. I hope you get a sighting soon Ella.x
LynS
As I'm heading to Selmeston today, my intention is to walk round Arlington Resevoir, for no reason other than that's the direction he ran in last time.
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
I was hoping Jasper may have been sighted:-( I take Roxie to agility in Ripe on a Monday night so will go a bit earlier and go via Abbots Wood. With no sightings it's really difficult to know where to start looking. Ella, you know as soon as there is a sighting I will do my best to come and help you search. I think the key is to get as many posters up as possible as it will be the posters that generate the sightings. I really hope today brings a sighting at least. X
Ella
Yes Lyn I'll contact them tomorrow.
Clarkey, he has his collar on pictured in the second photo on here. I was thinking of leaving food in his crate tonight but so many dogs pass through where he was last seen it would be eaten in an instant and potentially adding new/unsafe smells to his crate. I could leave trail from the place he ran to the van (at the risk of some other dog owners not being appreciative of their dogs snaffling unknown food on the floor). I was looking at the comments from the summer, there were sightings coming in about him almost every day then which gave us some direction but nothing so far at all this time. The three directions he could have chosen to run when he got to the van all have very different potential outcomes... I went back and forth calling and whistling between place he ran and van as soon as he went to no success, and nothing when I stayed there whistling all evening. I think he was out of the area or in trouble straight away :-/
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks Ella, I have just looked at Jaspers other page and seen that you took some tripe with you when you took your other Whippet out so maybe that's the way to find Jasper! You could take some to the place you lost sight of him and lay a trail back to the car park because if he is in that area it should lead him back to you. Has he got his harness on?
Also have a look at all the suggestions made last time as I really think you need to cover the whole area of Abbots wood and beyond. There were a lot of people who knew the area well with excellent contact suggestions. The page is http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=91239#.Vq5suVLn27g
LynS
I think its worth contacting the people at Mays Farm and asking them to keep an eye out.
Ella
Yes I have an older whippet who has been walking with me in the hope to leave another recognisable scent. I'd be very surprised if I could get him to bark though, sadly, he's a bit too sensible for that sort of thing...
Thank you Marshall. No last time he ran about 3 miles in 30 minutes, I'm hoping he didn't do that this time but have a horrid feeling he has. He was found on someone's land with barns and water troughs etc. It would be a long old hike for him to get back there again. Going by last time he ran and then stayed in that spot, so perhaps wherever he ended up this time he's staying around there...
marshall
Hi I walked south from Robin Post at about 4 today for about half hour and then back so left the woods about 5 and didn't see him sorry. I threw some chunks of roast ox heart around in the under growth near his dressing gown in the hopes the smell might attract him (foxes will think it's Christmas). Didn't see anything along A22 or down Hempstead Lane either. Will be back there again about same time tomorrow. The yard owner at Tilehurst is aware and has shared his post on fb. Was he found close to where he was lost last time? Was he found near houses? Might he try to go home?
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks LynS and Ella.
Hard trying to figure out where Jasper will have gone, however well worth checking and maybe leaving some scent articles at place he was found last time as well as where you already have just in case.
Do you have another dog at home or any dog who Jasper is good friends with? If so, then take them on your search and try to get them excited enough to bark. It may just attract him to join them and you. It worked with a dog that was lost in woods a couple of weeks ago so is worth doing.
Just keep at it .. you know you can do it!
LynS
I've also driven the A22 and couldn't see anything in the hedgerow
Ella
I've been meaning to go in there today Lyn but didn't make it before dark. Just tackling Hailsham now. Crate set up at end of Robin Post.
Clarkey the woods this time conjoin to where he went missing last time but is a fair few miles from where he was found. I've been trying to work out rhymes and reasons to where he could have headed but without knowing which way he turned it's very hard :-( can't see anything obvious along A22 verges which is very close (and the direction) he was last seen running, but still doesn't confirm anything.
LynS
Has anyone been in to Little Cophall, the riding school on the A22? They back on to Robin Post and hack out in Abbots Wood
LynS
Berwick, where he was found last time, is several miles to the west of where he was last seen. I'm that way tomorrow will have a scout around.
Walked the bridleways from Arlington Road to Knockhatch this afternoon, regret no sightings :( Last edited: 2016-01-31 16:19:28 by LynS

Hi Ella, thanks for your updates. Well done staying with the van and smelly food .. was hoping Jasper would come back to you there but he may still do so. I'm sure you are already doing this but please make sure you go back to where he lost sight of you and then walk back to the car park so that he has your scent trail if he returns to that place.
I'm not familiar with the area but am wondering if that car park is anywhere near where he was found last time. If not, then it would be worth checking there as well because we know that Jasper is quite familiar with the woods from last time and he may associate it with his reunion with you previously.
You are doing everything right and posters are really the very best way of getting sightings in.
I'm sure Jenny will contact you if she can help. However, she is very much in demand and has a lot of requests so is always very busy.
Thanks to everyone who is helping. Let's hope Jasper is back soon.
Stay safe laddie. Last edited: 2016-01-31 16:18:36 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Thanks Julie, I stuck posters through all Glade doors this morning. I think I know the people you mean, I saw them yesterday. Just come in from poster splurge along the Arlington Road and back round to the other end of RPL, going to tackle Knockhatch and nearby bits of Hailsham this afternoon. I really hope Jennie does get back to me about tracking at it could really help work out what direction to focus on.
Thank you Marshall, he's fine with other dogs but I don't think in this situation it would do any good or harm either way, seemingly from experience he just avoids anyone...
marshall
Have posted to Tilehurst Farm FB page so hopefully they will keep an eye out. I am going up there later so I will text you in case there have been any sightings and I can go for a wander. If I have my own dog with me would that make him more or less likely to run / approach?
JulieH
Too far away to help ,but wishing you every success today in your search x
LynS
I'm going to walk this morning, from the Arlington Road along the bridleway towards Knockhatch, am just waiting for it to stop raining.
Skywalker99
Ella, you have contacted Jenny and Tiga in the right way....through her website. I think scent can be tracked for up to two weeks....hopefully Jenny will get back to you, or perhaps if you ring doglost admin they will contact her for you.
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
So sorry to see Jasper is missing again. A friend of mine lives in the glades so will send her a text now. Might be worth taking a poster in to Knockhatch as he could have headed that way? I really hope he stays away from the A22. I have got commitments today but could probably get over there for a walk tomorrow morning. Really hope he turns up safely. X
Pointerlady
Ella, If you haven't already, call in on the people who live on the corner of Robin Post Lane/The Glades in the large bungalow. They have GSD's and walk this part of Abbots Wood several times a day at times most of us wouldn't dream of. Also Hylands Stables as my dogs often go into the fields behind there and cannot seem to get back to the Lane.
Ella
LynS, it totally depends on which way he turned when he got to the cars, but as we know he can travel the distance so perfectly possible! Posters are well and truely going up this morning.
madfox normally he is happy to go up to people to sniff but i wouldn't imagine in this scenario he would go near anyone, he avoided most by the sounds of things last time.
Clarkey, I sat in my van all friday evening and was back there yesterday morning 7:30am, left a bed out overnight. Am bringing more smely stuff today to hang over post. Wealdon dog warden and petlog aware, will make some more phone calls today.

Does anybody know if it's worth/how I can get in contact with K9 tracker Jennie and her beagles? Would the scents still be there after a couple of days? I've tried to contact her through her website and facebook but no response. I just feel if I know he went down the road or not then we'd have a better idea of where to focus on.
Thanks all again. I can't believe it.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Sorry to see Jasper has gone missing again. It must have been so frustrating to go on the wrong path but easily done.
I know that you did a great job searching and catching Jasper before so just do the same things. I am hoping that as you were parked in the car park that Jasper will come back to there late tonight or early in the morning when it is quiet. I expect you have your van and scent articles there already so good luck.
Thanks to all who have are already helping and supporting Ella.
madfox I seem to remember that Jasper was quite nervous so if anyone sees him I think it would be best to watch and see where he goes and to call Ella as soon as poss.
I'm also hoping that Jasper will not go too far and will stay away from the roads this time.
I have sent our Doglost advice to you Ella although I think you probably know most of it.
Best of luck with your search. Last edited: 2016-01-30 23:37:30 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Oh no, how awful for you Ella! I'm not in the area at the moment so can't help search for him this time. I will share with local groups & keep everything crossed for you xx
LynS
A quick calculation using google earth, of the distance J traveled last time, makes me wonder if we should start covering a similar radius now. That's as far as Downash to the east, St Bedes School, and as far south as the A27, which is accessible via the woodland. Just a thought .....
madfox
I can't remember if he was approachable? Is he wearing a coat? I so hope you find him tomorrow. I'll take my 2 lurchers over that way for their walk in the morning.

To all that may recognise this chap from previous adventures. Yes it's him! I appreciate you all helped us immensely back in the summer and I feel beyond awful that we're back in a similar situation (totally did not see this coming, he was just playing with another dog and zoomed off in the wrong direction), but it was the publicity that won the war last time so at risk of creating some sort of reputation for myself, here we go again.
So close to the A22 this time though, I'm so so worried.
