- It's been a long, long time since I've posted on Sian's page, but even to this day I still think of her when I see a Rough Collie mentioned on here! There's one on today's found page (sighted only and sex unknown)in Oxfordshire area - but you might want to keep an eye on this one incase any more details given. So pleased to read you have another dog to keep Sian's son company. Our rottie (Ozzie) sadly passed away 4 months ago and Barney (our cocker) misses him dreadfully. Wondering about getting some company for him. Take care, Alison x

- Have just "joined" the new site; still no news, but still looking and remembering Sian every day - still so so sad, wish we knew what had happened to her. Its taken 3 years but we have now got a new puppy from Sian's breeder, and Sian's son enjoys her company in a weird "old boy" way; it sometimes happen that she gets called Sian even tho her name is Honey! - which shows I think how very much Sian was and still is so deeply in our psyche. Thanks to all who still remember her, like Millie's mum, sand who are still looking or listening out for clues - lost/stolen - don't know. Cheers.

- Hi Sian's mum. Just to let you know I am going to be in the West Country for 3 or 4 days this week. I have Sian's poster with me and will keep a look out. She hasn't been forgotten. Alison xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Sorry Pat - didn't mean to give you an anxious weekend! - I should have taken your phone number and called you back straightaway, but didn't want to be a nuisance! sent you a mssge last night but it seems to have failed/got lost! Best Wishes. ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Oh Val, I am so sorry it's not Sian. I was really keeping everything crossed it might have been her. I was wondering all weekend if it was. With regard to your phone call from Chew Magna, I would have thought it was someone being very cruel to you. I'm not sure how you could follow up any leads in this direction anyway now? I sincerely hope you do find her one day safe and sound. There are a lot of people out there that have not forgotten about her so any news of a Rough Collie turning up, I'm sure you will hear about quickly! All the very best Pat Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- TO ALL AND EVERY ONE WHO STILL CHECKS SIAN'S PAGE - THANK YOU. I would love to know what you think about this; within a few days of Sian going missing and with posters out and about, my (grown up) son took a phone call on the landline number on the posters, from a "withheld number"; conversation went thus - "have you lost your dog, mate?" "yes - do you know where she is?" "yea, mate, plastered all over my tyres (laughter in the background)" "where are you calling from?" "Chew Magna, mate" - then the caller hung up. Being optimistic of finding her very soon, we discounted this as a cruel/sick hoax for a long time but have wondered since whether or not there could have been any truth in it. Does this sound like any kind of genuine call to you? Is this the kind of information we should trust? All Best Wishes , Val (Sian's mum) Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Pat - sorry I haven't been in touch to thank you so much for the info and alert - the found dog had been taken to White House Kennels to which I raced, with Sian's special "blue ballie" just in case... the dog led out for me to see was instantly obviously not Sian, she was much smaller than a Rough but maybe a bit bigger than a Sheltie without the more pointed facial features of the Sheltie (maybe a Rough/Sheltie cross?) - an emotional moment, but it is so good to be given some hope than to have no hope and no news. The little girl was obviously well cared for and do so hope her family find her very soon. I've left a message on the "dogs found" section. Thanks again so much for thinking of us and calling. I saw that a lost Lurcher (Bristol area) was found "the other end of the country"! This is I suppose how Sian could have disappeared so completely. Local opinion apparently is that she must have been hit by a car and crept off to hide and die; I can't think that's right because someone would know, or find something; and I have looked every, hedges, ditches, verges etc. Hope all is well with you and your lovely companions. There's a rough collie on today's found pages which I'm hoping we'll get more info on - found in Wales, so not out of the question. I hope and pray you get some good news soon. Can't wait until we can surprise you all with positive news, or at least some news; nothing is worse than no news. Thanks to all her many friends.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I t is an every day misery and devastation. Still looking and hoping. Can't think how much hassle and hard work all the lovely dog-lost people have put in to resurrect it for the sake of so many - THANK YOU SO MUCH - and ************** to those damned hackers. - Thankyou everyone for still thinking and caring about Sian (have sent some pms) - we are still looking everywhere and with the run up to Christmas, am going to find the time to start a new publicity offensive through the newspapers, and whatever else I can think of. Having Ritchie, her son, is a great comfort, but on the other hand is always reminding us of her special ways and funny bits of behaviour and communication, and all that we are missing, and it is heart-breaking can only hope that someone is caring for her and that we will get her back, the sooner the better. Best wishes to all.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Sian must be out there somewhere. Riding on the success of Buddy's return, let's turn up the heat on all of our South West dogs that are still missing. It's been a long time, but hang on in there Sian, we are looking for you. Can all Dog lost helpers who visit this page, please email a copy of Sian's poster, to all of their friends and family where ever they live in the UK. As we all know, missing dogs are not always found in the area in which they were lost. Thank you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Sian's mum, Don't give up, she is out there somewhere. My boy Gunner has been missing since 31st July, and virtually no sightings up to 2 weeks ago tuesday. If they are moving around at night, which with the heat they would do anyway (Gunner is an inuit, thick coated like Sian) they may not be seen too often. Its a lovely place to live the south west , but the counryside is vast so may take longer to find our kids. Good luck...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- It is believed that Sian is hanging out around the south edges and surrounding fields of Cheddar Reservoir - a most glorious place with lots of daily visitors. Food sources would include sweet corn and there are several fields of maize to the south of the res. - so close to home, but we can't find her, see her I think she was so shell-shocked that she has forgotten her name and her environment. We desperately need her back home, for her sake as well as ours. Please can anyone locally keep on looking out for her. When the crops of maize are cut we will be there, hoping to deter any gunmen who might be hoping to bag a fox (disgusting) but who we fear from a distance might mistake a bedraggled and grubby Lassie for a fox, and only realise too late. We will be hoping to bring volunteers along to help and see if she bolts from such a field. Best of luck to all you other doglost supporters and beneficiaries. - What a sweet beautiful dog and I hope you get her back quickly now, she's been gone a long time. I hate people who fire guns, let off fireworks etc.., it spooks so many dogs. Someone must have Sian, someone must be feeding her. Keep up the postering, check all rescue homes, keep trying and I'm sure she'll come home. Get as much publicity as possible.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Sian's mum. I volunteer at St Giles, and it was my brother and I that took a rough collie to a dog show. I can be 200% certain that this collie was not Sian - as the rough collie we took out was tri-colour (mainly black) not Sable and White and only about two or three years old. I have photos of this collie with the rosettes she won at the July show and can email them to you if you like, to put your mind at rest that this collie was not Sian. We have had no other rough collies brought into St Giles since Sian went missing, but I will keep my eyes open for her. Good luck with your search. JulieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Sian's mum, I have been away from Doglost for a while and am just catching up.....although I'm not in your area your beautiful Sian's picture caught my eye and I've been reading thru' the latest posts. Please take heart from so many re-united stories, but in particular Digby the border terrier (bless his heart) stolen in Surrey. The owner was told told by a 'psychic' that he was definitely dead, which as you can imagine upset her terribly. It took about three months I think then someone recognized his picture on a poster and phoned her to say their neighbour had a dog that was almost certainly him....and it was. He is now home safe and well. Please take no notice of that dreadful person, hope you will have good news very soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with the communicator. It isn't a precise art, it is only as good as the person doing it, there are certainly some frauds about and anyone who charges that kind of money for communicating with a missing dog is not worth listening to. Remember, you have had longish times with no sightings before now, and then Sian has popped up again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- This sounds like St Giles Kennels in Wrantage, they are the local pound. I have been checking their website over the weeks and haven't seen her. Have you rung them and asked? It is true that not all chipped dogs are scanned when picked up, but I would have thought St Giles would as they are the recognised pound. Don't worry about the "communicator" - mostly these are frauds and you should treat it with great scepticism.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- people said to us - have you tried a communicator? we had already consulted the local spiritual healer - a great guy - who gave some pretty accurate info and thought then/and knows now, that she, Sian, is out there somewhere, being looked after. Great - we will compensate. (no charge by spiritualist - but we will donate). The communicator, acting on the emailed picture, gave us a very graphic picture of her demise, panicked and under the wheels of a lorry. I was suicidal - again. (?1 per minute = ?60). Who is right? What do you do? A lovely lady says she is 99.9% certain she saw our dog at a dog show, where apparently local volunteers walk with dogs from the local dogs home, advertising rehoming the dogs rescue home apparently only receive dogs through the (wonderful) dog warden service, or collect stray dogs from the police. Several have suggested that the police are not thorough in their check of micro chips (any reactions here ?) On their internet site, this particular rescue home advertises stray dogs for rehoming as "the cost for this PRODUCT is available by contacting us" ?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our lovely lady contact says these people told her the Lassie Collie was 2 years old - she knows otherwise - she says she knows it was an elderly dog Sian is ten years old, and went missing (terrified by gun fire so close to our home) on the tenth anniversary of her choosing us as the family she wanted to be with - how happy were we she is wonderful, we love and miss her dearly, and are hardly able to stay sane. The timing is about right. PLEASE does anyone in the Taunton area know of someone who has acquired an adult Lassie Collie? OK they may love her and want to keep her, but WE NEED TO KNOW, HER SON NEEDS TO KNOW WE NEED TO SEE HER AGAIN there is scope for negotiation we can share/make payment, whatever. PLEASE HELP US she is probably missing her home as much as her home is missing her. We want to thank EVERYONE who has helped by sentiment and pracLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- AGAIN THANKYOU ALL SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR THOUGHTS AND CONCERNS FOR SIAN AND FOR ALL YOUR PRACTICAL HELP we miss her so much, she is such a lovely dog, so much part of the family life isn't the same for any of us, including her son. There have not been any reports in the last 2 weeks and we are really worried and more worried has someone taken her in? or has she been a victim of a road accident? we have checked with local authorities and no actual bad news, so we live in hope and need. Bless her, a travesty that she should ever have had to go through this (damn those gun men, so close to our house) and bless all those who are thinking of her and helping her. Best wishes from Sian and her family.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I am afraid that (yet again) I havent been able to do a lot for the last month or so, but I am absolutely thrilled that Sian has had so many sightings in and around the Radstock area.I now Sian's family will have got out posters there but I will go over and put some up too. I am really sorry I am spending my time playing catch-up but I will get some work mates from that area on the case as well and hopefully we will get her back to you, Sian's Mum. - sian's mum - sorry this is so belated but we very much want to THANK everyone, each of you, who have helped practically and emotionally with your kind thoughts and words. Sian has been our best friend for ten years and we miss her desperately she is a lady, beautiful and with an equally beautiful temperament. You and we have done everything we can possibly think of to find her I think she is in a shell-shocked state because of that appalling gunfire so close to the house which caused her to break open a door and run it must have been excruciating pain for her. the most recent sighting (and perhaps the most reliable identity) was at Temple Cloud (Wells to Bristol road) on Wednesday 15 th August at ten o'clock at night so many people have reported (possible) sightings in the Mendip Hills area, but none of them have attempted to detain her such a pity because if it was her, her pain and ours could have been over weeks ago. We had difficulty registering on doglost in the early days, but recently I've succeeded and am so glad because, as I said, we do want to THANK everyone who in one way or another has taken an interest in this most precious and beloved family member.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I am sorry I havent been on site for a couple of weeks, so I am really pleased to see that Sian has been sighted near Draycott and Rodney Stoke even though this was 10 days ago. I will head there in the morning with some posters and have a drive around the area. This is between Cheddar and Wells so I will get some posters up nearer Wells as a bit of time has lapsed since she was seen. There is a big car boot sale at Draycott every Sunday so I will get a couple of posters put up there as well. I really really want Sian back home where she belongs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have postered Cross and Compton Bishop which are the other side of the A38. I will put some in Axbridge today. Speaking to a friend last night who said there were a lot of fireworks going off last Saturday around the Cross area which upset his dogs about 2 miles away. I do so hope Sian wasnt spooked by them and has run further away. Unfortunately, rocky, there are no road works around the area, which is a bit of a suprise! PatbLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Patb , yes she may well have crossed the road. Roughs dont have much sense! when it comes to traffic.. They do tend to go to ground for a few days after the inital fright but hunger does get the better of them in the end. They may well befriend road workers etc!. as was the case with a friends rough. Good Luck all wish i was nearer, but have alerted my rough friends in that area. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I've been out tonight and driven round the area and it would seem that Weare and the villages close by are well covered for posters. Decided to put up some more in adjacent villages, hopefully now the area is pretty well covered. Plenty of dog walkers about who are hopefully looking out for her. I dont know whether she would cross a major A road or not? What does anyone think? If anyone thinks she may have I will go the villages on the opposite side of the A38, Cross, Compton Bishop etc? These are small villages with the Mendip Hills at the back of them, plenty of scope for staying away from people. Loads of people walk there so I may just take more posters there anyway. - Sian is a very beautiful girl! I had a rough collie many years ago who was a very nervous dog and he ran away one fireworks night. He was found the next again morning hiding under a shed in the local garden centre - please check all those sorts of places, sheds, garages etc, where she may be hiding. I know there has been a sighting but she may still be hiding somewhere and just coming out on occassion so checking those sorts of places around the area she has been sighted might be an idea. I hope you find her very soon. Stay safe until you are found sweetheart xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thanks Owl - thought I had spelled that wrong. I have asked the owner to ring in as soon as he gets another confirmed sighting to ensure he has all the info needed on scenting etc etc. Did advise they perhaps left something in the garden where Sian was possibly seen in the hopes it contains her in the area but, unfortunately, someone far more qualified than me needs to help on this one as I am not expert on scenting!! Thanks all and come on Sian, from Sian!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Just been taking a look at www.maps.google.co.uk which is a site I strongly recommend as an aid to all helpers. It is in fact Weare not Weir, and it lies NW of Clewer. Looking at the hybrid map, it appears to be mostly open arable fields round there, but plenty of trees around the gardens and places to shelter. However, it will be much easier than seeking a dog on the run in woodland, so postering etc and talking to residents will probably bring in some more sightings. Has owner's son been advised on scent marking at the site of any future sightings? patB, any chance you can get up to Weare and have a look round please?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Sian's owners continue to search and as a result of local newsppaer coverage have had a call from a woman in Weir? five miles west of their village who believes she saw Sian in her back garden as she put the washing out. This was two days ago. Owner is elderly but his son is doing what he can and I have advised them to treat the sighting in Weir as positive until they can prove otherwise and to ensure posters are up and this lady calls them immediately if she sees the dog again. have also asked them to ask lady if she can perhaps leave food so Sian can begin to associate the area with food in the hopes she stays there and generates some more sightings, any help much appreciatedxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible. Lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins, vets, pet shops, ask postmen to take to sorting office, milkmen, bin men, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, all takeaway food shops, dog training clubs, supermarkets, car parks, and in car windows. Hand out smaller posters or cards to people, especially dog walkers and deliver to houses etc. Police stations, and Dog Wardens, R.S.P.C.A , and all rescue centres need checking frequently, and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows SIAN well.
