Whoo hooo! Just had the very best call from JonSnidle saying that he has found Hicks .. with some help of canine friends!
I have to say I am very relieved and am really impressed with all he and his pals have done to get Hicks back safely. He has followed the advice I have given him today to the letter and has thankfully got his lad home.

I have asked JonSnidle to update with all the details later on.
Well done and welcome home Hicks! Last edited: 2016-05-07 20:34:08 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Brilliant that there has been another sighting. I walked along the lane from White Dyke farm this morning! Have absolutely everything crossed. X

Just spoken to JonSnidle again as he says the sighting in very close to the bbq field. He thinks he has gone into the hedge alongside the next field up. We have had a chat and he will try going in that one with his other dog to see if Hicks will show himself and as the bbq is quite portable he may try taking it in there as well.
However, I have said to leave some of his bedding and water (he was panting a lot) there and to make sure to keep watch in there too.
Keeping everything crossed for JonSnidle who is doing a great job and deserves to catch young Hicks very soon.
Biffsmum
Just had a reported sighting very near to where they are. White Dyke/ Old Swan Lane near the pub. Jon is on the scene.

Just spoke to Zoe who has been helping this morning. Thanks Zoe.
Also had a chat with JonSnidle and given more advice on how to catch Hicks as he was very close last night. However, he ran off again, was narrowly missed by a car and then chased by driver so will have been running scared. I suspect and hope that Hicks will return to the field where bbq is when all goes quiet.
Posters are up in the area so hoping for more sightings.
Keeping fingers crossed that Hicks stays safe and will be caught soon.
Very best of luck JonSnidle and remember please stay calm!

I spent the morning searching for Hicks. I did a large loop from Marshfoots Lane, across the marshes and back along a byway that came out on Mill Road. In the process, I bumped into Jon, who had postered in the area and was also handing out posters to random people (including me:-) ). Jon & Matt have searched endlessly for Hicks, late into the evening and from early hours this morning. Anyone who can display posters in the local area would be helping them out no end. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW IMPORTANT IT IS NOT TO TRY TOAPPROACH HICKS - please, please just call his owners. It's sighting we need at the moment. Thank you all.
Biffsmum
Someone has just posted that they've seen a dog of Hicks' description on White Dyke rd/Old swan Lane area near the White Lion Pub. Jon is there but if anyone can help please do.
Biffsmum
The guys were back in the area where Hicks was seen yesterday at 5 am this morning. The food they left down last night had been eaten but it could have been a fox. They are putting up posters and handing them out in the surrounding area. I think they now really need members of the public to alert them of any sightings today. Until they know for sure what area he's moving in, it's very difficult to know what else to suggest. (I was a member on here years ago when DogLost first started. I can remember Pandora and how her owner camped out for ages until he got her back. The advice I've given is from what I've read on here in the past)

Thanks Biffsmum, Zoe and all others helping. Much appreciated.
I have just spoken to JonSnidle and he is following the advice he has been given. He and some friends are bbq'ing in the field nr where Hicks was seen. Whilst on the telephone JonSnidle thought that they could hear Hicks barking so I have advised to get their other dog excited and barking to try to attract him to them. I have explained how important it is to stay calm and be patient whilst trying to catch him.
I have also sent our Doglost email advice which will help him know how to catch Hicks. (Think you Biffsmum know most of this already fm what I have been told!)
I have suggested a couple of other things as well and really hope that Hicks will be found and caught soon.
Best of luck!
Biffsmum
I think this is in an area totally away from his home, so will be totally lost. I've advised them to just sit tight, not call him or try to grab him.

Biffsmum - thanks ever so much for keeping us updated on sightings. Is that heading home do you know? I will check this thread in the morning and if he's not been found will go out first thing. Really hope he makes his way home....so pleased there's been a sighting. X
Biffsmum
Latest message from Matt, his other owner.
Last sighting of Hicks was about 20/30 minutes ago on Mill road by Lions park. If you are near the area and see him please let us know, don't approach him or call his name as he is scared and will likely run away, wait for him to approach you. Many thanks!

Jon, I am not now going to the kennels so will look at the map and familiarise myself with where the tip is and will head out that way tomorrow with my own dog (will check on here first in the morning before I head out). If it's ok, I'll drop you a quick email as there are a couple of things I want to ask about the area that I'd rather not put on here. I am happy to display /distribute some posters but don't have a printer.
JonSnidle
It turns out that he was now last seen at the tip. The builders were not fully truthful about when he escaped or how far they chased him. He got down the cookhoo trail, the onto station road and down to the tip. He doesn't know this area at all. So upset.
valpark
Beware. There have been episodes of poison meat left for dog walkers on the cuckoo trail.Keep a good eye out and do not let your dog eat anything from the path.I know this is upsetting to read and I thought twice about posting it,.If there are searchers out there with dogs I thought it best to be warned.I hope Hicks is found soon. There are many rabbits warrens and interesting places for dogs to go.Do hope he has his fun and then shows his face.Last edited: 2016-05-06 16:07:48 by valpark

I am happy to change poster to read Corgi like, if Jon is in agreement? Can it be confirmed, whereabouts exactly on the Cuckoo he went missing and which direction he headed in please? Also, do you walk to the cuckoo from home, or do you travel by car? And if you can walk there, which direction home is? I'm supposed to be going to the kennels tomorrow but if by chance I don't, I'll head that way with Roxie for our morning walk....just could do with a more exact area. Really hope he's home before then though.
Biffsmum
Hi, I'm a friend of Jon, I bred their other Swedish Vallhund.. Hicks is still missing, with no proper confirmed sightings of him. Word about him is getting about through social media. I've mentioned about changing the poster to say Corgi Like and to dig out some more photos. I've suggested it might be time to offer a reward. What do you think?
Lankeela
I really think you should add that he looks like a Corgi - most people would not know what a Swedish Vallhund is and would think he was a Corgi if seen particularly as he is a red sable and the photo only shows him sitting so its hard to see what size/shape he is.
kjane85
Can I suggest you alert TN21 area which is Heathfield/horam as Cuckoo runs up to us. Good luck Jon, I will keep an eye out.
valpark
It may be worth giving Horam notification .There is a great band of dog lost supporters there. The cuckoo trail goes from Hellingly to Horam. He may well have followed trail.
marshall
Hi Jon, think you might be the same person I worked with at Patcham? Either way I am not far and know the area so do shout if I can help. Will put a poster up at work for starters and can poster around the Horsebridge - Hellingly area of the cuckoo trail if that's any use?Last edited: 2016-05-05 21:32:37 by marshall
