I'm so very sorry that this beautiful girl didn't make it home. So many of our wonderful companions have died in this way. It makes me so very sad. I never would have imagined exactly how many dogs loose their lives on our railways until I joined Doglost. How I wish they could be made more secure. Marbles was one of the most beautful dogs I have ever come across (I never knew this stunning breed existed until now) that I'm typing this through tears. Rest in peace lovely Marbles - sweet dreams girlie... xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....Author unknown. Im so sorry xxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RJK you do not need a tracker dog just a entire male dog they will find a bitch in heat miles away and not it is not to late. MARBLES could also be looking for a mate. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have now read the Amadeus story and have tears in my eyes. I hope and pray that we can find Marbles however long it takes. I have spread posters further out this morning including vans that deliver in the Harrogate area. We really need another more recent sighting to give me some idea of where to look. For following a scent, bearing in mind she is on heat, how long does it last given the variable weather conditions? Is it worth trying to find someone with a tracker dog that can help or is it too long since the sighting for the scent to be warm?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RJK I have just had a reply back from Harrogate council they have past the poster on to the dog warden now I will try and find e-mails for the vets in that area and also rescues. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RJK, glad you finally made it here. Are you informing the dog wardens, kennels, etc of her actual breed? You would be better off describing the colourings & markings of Marbles as most people would not recognise this breed. I would have described as a miniature Burmese with beagle ears. Make it so easy that people couldnt mistake her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just look on the map and see that the river runs right up to where she come from, I would contact the river authority's and also any boat owners and poster along that river if you can, it dose look like she is heading that way going from the last sighting, Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RJK I have sent an e-mail to Harrogate council for the dog warden it may be worth a phone call to see if they have received it also try to send one by e-mail to RSPCA but there e-mail is not working so may be good idea to give them a call to, have you told the last owner of her being missing just in case she dose make her way back. also try searching for rescues in that area and vets. just do what I have done and e-mail them a poster from sight. She has moved to us from another individual who has for medical reasons had no choice but to rehome her with us. I have another of the same breed and am at home during all day, so we hoped it would be a good arrangement for her. She did settle as soon as she arrived, so the signs were very promising. The one photo I took while she was here was of the two of them lying nose to nose - it was lovely. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RJK did you just move from where MARBLES may be heading or was she a rescue. If she was a rescue then the rescue may be able to get some posters up and also alert any other rescues from that area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to take so long to respond as the owner, it has taken me a while to get my account working. We have one possible sighting in Linton-on Ouse, heading towards Aldwark along the river bank on Monday night. It may be that she is hopelessly lost or it may be that she is following a path back to where we collected her from in the Telford area (103 miles in a straight line). I am spreading out the posters around that area but it is hard to know where to cover. If she were going back she may then head towards Knaresborough and Harrogate. I have spoken to the dog warden in Harrogate but would appreciate any help with notifying vets and animal welfare organisations in that direction just in case. Any suggestions will be very welcome.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Come on MARBLES, I hope this sighting is MARBLES everything should be taken to be possibility that she could get back to were she come from dogs can, and do travel what seems to be a long way to us not for them they can travel a cross land places that cars don't have access to and can get there a lot quicker then us, so I would alert anyone at or near where she come from. good luck hope she is home soon. Owner has spoken to the person that saw the similar dog, they are definite that the dog was wearing a red collar with circular disc. Marbles tag is bone shaped. Owner is now out putting up more posters.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just spoken to Marbles owners and they will be coming on here to post once their account is activated. Marbles had only been in her new home for 24 hours and she ran away out of the front door yesterday afternoon . She is a very nervous dog and does not know the area she is in which is very rural. Her previous home is some distance away and it is thought unlikely she would be able to find her way back there. Marbles has a FULL TAIL. Owners have contacted local vets and dog wardens and have been postering. No sightings of this girl yet and she may have gone to ground.I have advised to poster, poster, poster ! Stay safe Marbles until you are found x PamLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Has she been re-homed from shropshire?, the only reason I ask is I am on a waiting list for an entlebucher puppy and the breeder had a bitch called Marbles. Too much of a coincidence! They really are lovely and it's a real shame she's on the run. We have Bernese and it's amazing how many people ask how many breeds are in them so she may well be listed as a crossbreed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

An Entlebucher is VERY LITTLE like a BERNESE Mountain Dog being SHORT-COATED and about the size of a Springer. At 3 years old, MARBLES is probably docked. Not really enough info here to help us. how long has she been in her new home? Was she let off the lead or did she escape? Her previous owners need to become involved in searching for her if they have not already done so. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Looks like the tails are traditionally docked so this girl may also have hers done, depending where she was imported from. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lol, like a Bernese, not a burmese :) If found it will probably be advertised as a Bernese Cross or even a Collie Cross so bear in mind when passing this info on to rescue centres, there are that many dog breeds it's hard for everyone to keep up to date these days.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Its a member of the Swiss mountain dog family-the smallest of them- sometimes known as a cattle dog or mountain dog. Similar to a Burmese. Height is around 16 to 20 inches to the withers heavy boned and muscular. they enjoy being around people and their dogs- hope this means this lady will soon be spotted. ( Im not a dog expert- just have a good dog book- thought it might help in recognition !! LOL) CJLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
