From Barney's FB page
Dear all .
There’s been a recent sighting of a Lurcher that may / may not be Barney. The dog was sighted near Claremont School chasing a deer across the Portsmouth Road heading towards West End woods, Esher . This sounds very like him although he/she was described as a brindle Lurcher. However bearing in mind we don’t know what condition he’ll be in but I’m sure he won’t be his usual clean Sandy colour.
We’ve walked around Black pond and Oxshott woods with our other dogs, leaving a scent trail in the hope that if it is him he might stay in the area.
If you are walking in any of the surrounding woods please can you keep an eye out . Many thanks as always 🀞"

Please keep sharing and looking for Barney - from owner "A year ago today our beloved Barney disappeared. Not sure where the time’s gone to be honest. It’s been a very difficult and worrying time with little highs and too many lows. We had a fair few sightings in and around Cobham, Hersham and Esher for the first few months and then the trail went cold for many months on the run up to Christmas . We’re sure he’s been traversing between the vast area of woodland that all interconnect ; Cobham, Oxshott, West End, Esher and Claygate , so sadly it’s like hunting for a needle in a haystack. We had hoped that the winter months would force him out as resources would be thin on the ground but it hasn’t happened as the weather’s been so mild . Through this process we’ve met many wonderful and selfless people who’ve helped us in the search to get Barney home that have given up their precious time and have worked tirelessly behind the scenes . On behalf of us all a huge and massive thank you πŸ₯° . You have made this process easier to cope with .
Barney, it’s time to come home now and leave the wonderful countryside of Elmbridge behind . I’m sure you’ve had some amazing adventures but please stop bouncing around and come on home . We miss you so much. πŸ˜” πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

I’m 99% sure it’s him as the dog described fitted Barney’s description . We’ve been out this afternoon / evening looking for him but sadly he didn’t present himself . Week 25: It’s been over six months now and we haven’t had a confirmed sighting in over two months of Barney until a recent call where apparently a dog fitting his description approached a nice lady and her little dog last week down in Broadwater Lake , Cowey Sale near Walton on Thames’ marina . Posters have now been put up in and around the surrounding area in the possible hope that he may reappear. However he could be anywhere... Sharing for Barney after this latest sighting. I see a search is being organised at the weekend, I’m just wondering if owner would consider a tracking team with feeding station and cameras - if this is Barney’s safe area it’s best if he stays there. I’ve asked for people not to call or chase but to call owner straight away if seen. From Barney's owner "Update : Barney- Missing 10 weeks ...

As you're all aware Barney, our Lurcher Cross went missing on 5th March and has been sighted on the odd occasion, mainly in Whitely Village in April. However, he went to ground for over a month but then re appeared one morning last Monday on West End Lane, Esher and then again near Black Pond off the Portsmouth Road. It's been a week since he was last (positively) sighted until we received a call this evening to say he was seen in the woods off Sandy Lane, Cobham, opposite Milner Drive. The caller tried to coax him to her but said he looked very scared and was extremely weary..... and looked lost. We searched this area tonight but nothing . I'm not sure which way he's now headed- be it towards Cobham/ Oxshott or back over the bridge towards Esher and West End. Please if you're out walking in these areas can you keep a look out and call me.

Thank you again for all your help .xx"

All crossed he's safe and back home...if not where in Esher was he seen? We often walk in the woods there andcan keep an eye out or can help if you're going to be setting up a search party.

So we now have three confirmed sightings of Barney in and around Whitely Village ; the last one being on Friday which was confirmed last night. He approached a woman who works there and then changed his mind and toddled off. She said he looked fine and didn't look stressed. There are now six people in the village keeping their eyes open including Security and they will contact me if he's seen. I work only five minutes drive away so we've got a good chance of getting to him. Next stage : setting up bbq and finding a tracker. 🐾

There is someone in the nonsuch park dog walkers group on Facebook who has a dog that can, and has , tracked other dogs. However they are not a professional tracker and may not be able to do it for Barney...but it might be worth joining the group and asking the question.
Cosmopolitan
Nina, please may we ask that you know all the facts before posting - as per the post afterwards, Barney's owner was only updated late on Friday about the mentioned sighting, when the lady that saw him called her - which was 2 weeks after spotting him- this is all not helped at all by Elmbridge Borough Council insisting that the posters were to come down - as the lady was not aware it was missing Barney. As we all know posters raise awareness and alert people to call and to act, and in peoples consciousness.

Barney's family could not have done any more to find their beloved boy - they have postered relentlessly, followed up absolutely every single lead, rushing to each and every sighting the moment they have been updated. It is x 6 weeks tomorrow, and they have been through the emotional mill, and now deserve more than ever to have him back safely to them.

They have been badly let down several times on the tracker front, which in itself has been hugely distressing - is there any one that can help as we have positive sightings now after so long - this area is near a main road, and we must get him home safely after all this time, and he was seen near a main road last week when he evaded capture when chased.

Please if anyone can help, please do, as this dear boy needs to return to his family and loving home xxx

We finally received a call late Friday afternoon confirming a positive sighting of Barney which we haven't had for over five weeks. He was spotted 1st April around Burview Hall, Queen road , KT13 area. More posters have been put up in and around Walton on Thames and Weybridge. I then received a call yesterday from a resident in Whitely Village confirming two sightings last Wednesday and Thursday morning which is fantastic. We can now focus on this area and have been back several times already . Is there any tracker that can help us bring him home please ? We could really use your help to bring him home. πŸ™πŸΎ

There's been another sighting of a young labrador type dog seen yesterday around 4.30pm in Rabbit Lane, near Whitely Village, Hersham (KT12 area). Hi Gayle, I am so desperately sad for you that Friday's sighting was not the lead that looked so promising, given its location to where he went missing from. Could he get home from where you were walking from on the 5th March? - as there are lots of posts suggesting laying a scent trail for him to follow back home if he has got very disorientated.I walked miles and miles this weekend in Oxshott area where we were last weekend, trying to see if he could have got stuck anywhere, I can not imagine what you are all going through, and praying and praying that there is a sighting today that can lead you to him. Please let us know if we can help as we feel useless Alison xxx

If it is just that the council will take them down and no financial penalty then I would be tempted to let the council do the taking down......and then replace them.
Cosmopolitan
Hi - I am not sure, as the owners obviously are fully committed to spending all of their time searching for him and I believe that the Council will start taking them down if not but i may be wrong here. I believe they had a complaint from a resident but I suspect it is one and a definite minority small minded person who has nothing positive or better things to do than to try and help bring Barney home to his family xxx
Skywalker99
What are the consequences if the posters are not taken down? Sometimes social media shaming works better than writing to the relevant bodies. I would be contacting the media about their attitude.
Cosmopolitan
Hi -a number of us have written to the Council as Elmbridge council tax payers to counter balance their argument. The posters are not offensive, and everyone I have met dog walking and whilst searching etc have been totally in support, including those that live near where there was a positive sighting last Friday PM, and just want to help. Fingers crossed he comes out of hiding today xxx
Skywalker99
Elmbridge borough council should have more compassion...
Cosmopolitan
Please can everyone in the postcode KT11 Cobham, Surrey help in looking for this lovely chap, Barney, missing now since 5th March, and 9 nights in this weather. He is poorly and needs to get home asap to his family who are doing everything possible and beyond to help find him. Elmbridge Borough Council have given the family until Monday to take all the posters down which they have put up in their search for him, and as we know, once posters are not reminding everyone that a dog is still lost, they are less likely to keep searching whilst dog walking etc. Time is ticking, and we need to find Barney fast, so please everyone try and find him if he is hiding and let his family know so they can take him home Alison xxx

Mon 11th March : We've been back this morning at 6.30am to the area where Barney was seen twice yesterday, next to the A3 north bound near the Hook under pass (access via Elm Farm , Claygate) but nothing. One of which will notify horse riders via their own social media group so fingers crossed we get another sighting today.

Admin
Sorry to see that BARNEY POSSIBLE SIGHTING is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (141187)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
